View Full Version : Wizard lvl at 1500?

Hey guys,
I'm making a 1500 point list with High Elves, and was wondering, would a lvl 2 wizard be enough magic (and anti-magic)??
Or Should I take a lvl 4??

I think you can get away with a level 2 (go fire!), but I would suggest a lvl 4 if you can swing it.

High elves are soft and squishy and love to be supported by life magic (T7 elves FTW!)

yeah, thing is, I've got a caledorian army in mind. And either I take a lvl 4 (shadow possibly), and a Mounted hero, or I take a Mounted Lord and a Dragon Mage (to keep in fluff).

Rest of the list will probally be: 40-ish spearmen, 10 Dragon Princes, 10 Silver Helms

Go fluff, go dragon mage :) You'll be fine.

At 1500pts I usually take a level 2 or 3. 4 is a few extra points that I can usually spend better somewhere else.
It depends on the army though, I don't play High Elves.
Don't you get a +1 to dispel anyway? I have a feeling that doesn't affect dragon mages, but I don't recall.

A level 2 is generally enough defence for my skaven (I generally don't take a seer until 2000 at least) as well as my lizardmen (I don't have a slann model).
For VC I take a level 3 necromancer at 1500pts and a king with a bound spell.

A dragon mage would be pretty cool at 1500pts.

I've recently been running a lvl4 in 1500 games. But viable options for lower levels should be a level 2 with the crystal (solid defensive choice) or what I like to call the "budget lvl3", i.e. the level 2 with the silver wand.

hmm, seems like even a lvl 2 Dragonmage is too many points for 1500. Would a Dragonmage with a Silver wand be worth it?
He would know 2 spells, but still only be lvl 1??
I want to field the model for the dragon, but just putting a lvl 1 mage on it feels like a waste of points...

If you take a dragonmage, he can have Flaming Sword of Rhuin a his signature spell, so he becomes a reasonably effective combat option, especially in flanks.

It depends what armies you face though. My NGs can easily fit a Lv4 at 1.5k, for instance. But most of the time a Lv2 is enough at that points level for Elves.

I am wondering the same thing but I am building Empire. I am wondering if 1 lvl of magic + 1 lvl per 500pts is enough magic.

So, like 1500 pts is 4 lvls of magic. 2000 pts is 5 lvls of magic. Something like that....opinions?

That should be plenty for both factions. In fact, Empire could easily run an L2 + WP or any of the bound spell options, providing more dice, channel attempts and a greater spell selection.

Lord Solar Plexus, you confound me again; L2 (wizard) + WP << ? What is WP? Forgive me for being a neophyte, but please patronize my plog; I will launch it very soon- a Middenheim theme.

thing is, I would never field a wizard that only knows 1 spell. As I either have to 6-dice it to get it off, or my opponent will have a very decent shot to dispel it, rendering a lvl 1 useless.
But If I give that lvl 1 a second spell, so making my opponent having to choose wich one to dispel, that would make him better.

So a Dragon Mage with Silver wand at 1500? Good or no?

Decent, is the short answer. Try it out, and let us know what happens.

Yeah, thing is, I won't be testing this out for awile. I'm glueing/painting my Knights right now, and wanted to know this, to know if I should buy a Dragon.
But I'll probally buy the Dragon tough :D

You could try just a lvl 4 with no other characters. Depends on your army too. If you have 50 Spearmen you prob way to really ensure you get Mindrazor, etc.
