Been meaning to do this for a while - a small plog/gallery for my WHQ Heroes (and maybe I'll add in some monsters). I'm not intending to add to this that often, as my group have mostly moved onto board games and D&D, so my WHQ collection is built toward being just another board game. I have all the boxset contents printed on one sheet of A4 for each character, with a slightly modified event and dungeon deck (thanks, Tael) and all the monsters in single box so I can crack it out when I have people round and we can see how far we get (not that far that often...)

Anyway, on to the photos:

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/S_A_T_S/Warhammer%20Quest/WizardFront_zps95daa062.jpg~original
Barnabus, Wizard
I always underestimate the wizard, but as he levels he gets some damn powerful spells, and with a half decent set of gear can hold his own in combat as well.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/S_A_T_S/Warhammer%20Quest/BretonnianKnightFront_zpsc873e9c2.jpg~original
Angharad, Bretonnian Knight
I really wanted a female knight, but not an overly sexualised, unrealistic one ('breast' shaped breastplates are simply wrong, as this article (http://madartlab.com/2011/12/14/fantasy-armor-and-lady-bits/) discusses), so I took a tiny file to this Knights face, filing down his cheeks, jaw and nose to give him more feminine features, and then painted it following the GW Painting [female] Faces Masterclass article. As you can probably tell from the name, I went for a Welsh colour scheme - red dragon head gear, white and green bisected cloak. The model was on a raised rock, so I added some PVA over the top of some murky-looking painting to try and give the effect she is standing overlooking an underground pool or lake.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/S_A_T_S/Warhammer%20Quest/BarbarianFront_zpsc627f97b.jpg~original
Warburton, Barbarian
You might have seen this guy in another thread I started years ago, when I got stuck with how to paint the skin on his cloak. I didn't really get and answers there, so just threw paint at it, and it came out good (think it was elf flesh, baal wash, elf flesh dry brush then a 50/50 elf flesh/bleached bone final highlight drybrush). Also, painting this guy was when I realised that painting skins is where I am worst, so I found the Painting Faces Masterclass I mentioned earlier. When this model arrived, the axe at the front was almost twisted around in a circle! I decided to remove both hafts and replace them with steel carpet pins (which I use for general pinning) - now they are by far the hardiest parts of the entire model!

I'm gonna leave it there for now. I have some other heroes photographed, but I'm gonna spread it out a little, touching up the paint job of one or two (good incentives, these plogs) and make sure I'm taking photos of a reasonable quality - my pit fighter's flail is quite long and it's hard to get it in shot properly.

Your painting style is awesome... nice and neat but bright and clean, and lots of color but reasonable at the same time. Great work on the knight... I'd love another shot from the side so we can see the helmet details.

What kind of sealant/clearcoat are you using? It seems a bit shiny on the wizard, his cloth is a bit too reflective for my tastes. Probably looks less apparent when you're not photographing from up close, though.

Great idea to have a hero showcase. The wizard model is great, although the winner for me is the female knight. The base really does a lot for it, just having that small bit of water sparks a whole idea about the surrounding dungeon. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the comments guys!
@Benvolio: It's a Coat d'Arms gloss varnish - cost less than GW for about 50% more. I'm not massive on gloss either, but I use it on WHQ heroes as I don't reall have a safe method of transporting them (not enough for their own case) and with 4 players throwing dice everywhere and helping to move them when I can't reach to that side of the table, they need a bit more protection. I did try using matte spray varnish before, but it just kills metals, so I've stuck with gloss since - makes my Heroes look different from all my other models as well ;-)
@Inandantia: The knight is one of may favourites too. She's the character I've played with most recently as well, and with a sword of vengance and a +2T helm, she is immense in combat! The base was a real experiment for me, as I usually keep it really simple with just painted paint then maybe some tufts of grass - her sculpted-on base just needed something more, and in a dungeon, the only thing she could be looking over would be some sort of pool or chasm, and I couldn't quite imagine why she wouldn't be looking straight down if it was a chasm.

New photos!

Gunter von Kraus, Chaos Warrior
The only original WHQ model I think I own, this was a bargain at 5 delivered from eBay. I had to have it at that price! I went for purple armour because I have largely blue (Elf Ranger, Pit Fighter), largely red (wife's Trollslayer, Wizard) and largely silver (Knight, Barbarian) heroes already, as well as a Nurgle's Rotters BloodBowl team all in green armour, and purple looks suitably chaotic, non-denominational (not necessarily Khorne, Slaanesh, etc) and cool.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/S_A_T_S/Warhammer%20Quest/BrewmasterSide_zps028a935d.jpg~original
Filli Bugman, Dwarf Brewmaster
A distant relation of the famous Bugman tribe, Filli is trying to break into that notoriously close-knit family business by brewing a unique and astounding beer, so travels across the old world looking for new special ingredients. I'm sure I've commented on this before, but I really like Scibor's stuff, but never had an excuse to get any, until Maelstrom had a 20% sale and I knew I had a new WHQ campaign coming up and went for it. Great model, and a great character to play - good fun persuading all the other players to go on a pub crawl when we get into town, especially when one of them is an Ogre!

And because Benvolio asked for one, I had a go at getting a shot of the knight's helmet:

Love the purple on the chaos warrior, reminds me of how I used to have my HeroQuest ones painted. Brewmaster is equally amazing, never used him in a game although I've heard he can be a bit overpowered?

I've never really used the brewmaster in a quest either - but I do like the Scibor model.

I also approve of the purple chaos warrior - very very much.

I didn't find the Brewmaster that overpowered, myself. He's a bit of a tank, but doesn't do a lot of damage. The most fun parts were finding ingredients, brewing up beers then tapping casks in combat for different bonuses.

Now, the assassin, if you build him right, he can be overpowered. I got mine to BL7 and he had at that point around 7-8 attacks (paired gauntlets, bladed boots, sword of leaping copper, magic rings, etc), and every roll of 4+ ignored armour and toughness. The GM restricted what I could deathblow with (only allowed to use attacks over my base once per warriors phase, but could use base attacks for every successive monster) because it became ridiculous - when I had boots of leaping, he was literally the assassin of our group: the ranged characters would blast any holes I needed in the mobs, and I would just leap my way straight to the sorcerer/necromancer/boss monster and throw all my attacks at him. 80% of the time, I took it down in one attack.

The sun is shining and that can only mean one thing - time to photograph and airbrush models!

Zachariah Underhill, Halfling Thief
A nasty, cruel, conniving little bastard, Mr. Underhill is not your average Halfling. Of course, he still loves to eat, but he prefers to do it whilst sitting on the still bleeding corpses of the enemies (or friends) he has stabbed in the back. It's just comfier than sitting on a hard stone floor.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/S_A_T_S/Warhammer%20Quest/DSC01407_zps3980126e.jpg~original (http://s799.photobucket.com/user/S_A_T_S/media/Warhammer%20Quest/DSC01407_zps3980126e.jpg.html)
I'm please with his cloak, as my wife persuaded me to buy an extra blue and experiment with some dark colours, with highlighting on the extremes. Sadly the gloss varnish makes it harder to see here, but then I did drop the thing twice while taking it outside for the photo, and only 2 tiny bits of paint chipped off, which were easily covered.

Aniron, High Elf Noble
An ancient wanderer, Aniron has assisted many a band of adventurers over the centuries, surviving death and retirement in his never ending search for a mysterious treasure, on whose nature he has never been drawn.
This is the first miniature I purchased specifically for WHQ, as I've always loved the model and had no good reason to own it before. As soon as I knew I was going to build a WHQ set, I bought this immediately. My favourite is all the gems, which contrast nicely with the white and blue colour scheme, and provided an excellent practice piece for all the gems on my Blood Angels.

Just because I finished putting it together this afternoon, I have to throw this in as well:
http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/S_A_T_S/Blood%20Bowl/DSC01414_zps2fdb773e.jpg~original (http://s799.photobucket.com/user/S_A_T_S/media/Blood%20Bowl/DSC01414_zps2fdb773e.jpg.html)
I went to GWHQ for the first time last month, and to treat myself I got the Goff Rockers while I was there. I want to get them painted up as half-time entertainment for my Blood Bowl games (I already have a hot dog salesman (http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=elfother_profile&id=LI_HHDV) and Motty the goblin commentator, along with Motty's seasonal doubles (http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=elfother_profile&id=EO_WGOB)), but they can't rock out on the pitch (unless they want to have their instruments wrapped around their faces), so I had to make a stage! The white board will be a scoreboard with removable numbers and maybe a stadium or sponsor logo in the centre. You may also notice the drummer - I built the drum kit and drummer (made from an old savage orc) from scratch as you have to have drums in a rock band! The drum sticks are made from the same pins you can see hammered into the front of the stage. If my Blood Bowl stuff interests anyone, tell me and maybe I'll do a Stadium of Heroes thread in the Blood Bowl forum ;-).

Ah, spoil sports - no BB fans here then ;) No worries, I'll squeeze the rockers in somewhere.

Just updated my Knight of Baal log, so thought I'd add something here as well:

Simply put ball of green stuff on your base, stamp it down, then leave to dry. Wish I'd seen these before I did all my heroes:

Was reading your thread, quite late to the party, I know... and wondering if you ever came across this figure before : http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/minis/females/female_knight1a.jpg

The shield suits the purposes exactly. :)

Not seen it before, but for a female knight it's one of the best I've seen. For a start, she doesn't have a boob-plate! The shield is good, but her chin juts out a little for me, and she looks a little sprightly for a knight, a bit more like an Errant than a Knight of the Realm or Questing Knight. I wanted mine to look tough and quite regal, like a Good counter point to the Chaos Knight, so I took the full plate as better than having a shield as well. Also I love Wales, and the dragon helm and nice flowing cloak just sold it ;)

Good to hear, just putting it out there as it was at one time going to play the sister of my young knight on his adventures (rebellious sister that is..)

S_A_T_S
22-08-2013, 00:54
Ah, now, that model looks perfect for that character! Jutting chin = rebellious/stubborn, sprightly = young. That what I quite like about Reaper - they might not be the best models in the world but they have such a massive range there's a good chance you'll find something similar to what you want, and now I've said that I'll bet your knight isn't a Reaper miniature, is she?

Some really great miniatures on this thread. The female adventurers are really characterful (not sure if this is a proper word, but it was used in WD a couple of times) and decent sculpts too. Keep it up. :)

Chuckle.. nope, she's a Grenadier model which is very sadly OOP, they're slightly leaner than your average GW figure. I have several Grenadier models, they're perfect for classic RPG.
