About two years ago I began to create my own set of Quest having given my original set away some 15 years previously!!! Yes silly, I know. So here are some of the pictures I have taken recently of the adventures of Serefina the Witch, her faithful hound Jazz, Crue the Barbarian and Bjorg the Dwarf.

All the corridors, rooms and doorways, baring one, are handmade from hardboard, dowel and card, with some green stuff details.

Here are some close ups of the characters.

So from left to right we have: Serefina, Crue, Jazz, Bjorg

Very impressive dungeon tiles, liking the archways

10-11-2013, 23:49
Very cool, especially the archways. Are they really completely scratch built? I'm impressed!

11-11-2013, 16:12
Yep just about every one, I bought one off ebay to get the size and then went from there. I'll take some picks of the others not featured here and put them up when I get a chance.
They're all individual, no repetitions; made a basic shape from card and then built ontop with dowel or more card/green stuff. Some I'm not so happy with, like the one with 4 boar heads on!
But it works.

11-11-2013, 18:08
Some pics of archways as promised.

11-11-2013, 21:50
Cool stuff! Your archways are really inspiring

11-11-2013, 22:48
Thanks very much bloodsbane, Richard, S_A_T_S, they took a while to do but I have enjoyed making them.
I'll post some pics of the tiles when I can, I made them after the archways. Originally I had quick card tiles and began making the archways, which quickly got out of hand .
After I had completed them I got the "Bug" so to speak and the project snowballed from there. Two years later I have a complete set of quest plus most of the extra supplements.
Presently I'm working on a small village as a home for our heroes and a as a base for our adventures.

18-11-2013, 21:34
Here are most of the boards that I've managed to make in the last year or so. They have a hardboard base with individual cut card squares 30mm and a 15mm border.
I haven't taken pics of all the boards, didn't think all the corridors were that interesting... after you've see one, as they say :)

Great looking set, really enjoy sctachbuilt boards. I've been gathering bits to make themed archways out of the original WHQst archways (Ogre war machine parts, Orc themed parts etc), but after seeing your scratchbuilds.. I think I'm going to do my own too. Completely move away from the classic look, inspiring work :)

20-11-2013, 23:00
Thanks very much Shas'El, having seen loads of your work, especially your new jungle cards, I really appreciate your comments.

21-11-2013, 02:11
Great work, especially the archways and objective rooms :) inspiring me to blow the dust off my thread now.....

Great work, very inspiring!

24-11-2013, 22:20
Thanks for the comments fellas, to be honest Andy_T it was blogs/plogs like your own that got me thinking and planning where I would start. So Ta.

26-11-2013, 18:38
I can't believe I've missed this log. Cracking stuff. You'll have to do a tutorial on the doors, they look excellent!

26-11-2013, 18:41
Yeah I agree, tutorial on the doors would be great! :)

So this is what we are making, basic doorway for Quest. I will try not to bore you all!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hiEcEKZDcAQ/U28_VIcHPTI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/euNuGRKnzHg/s1600/1385576563647.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-091YNEXKPE4/U28_V-mKctI/AAAAAAAAAVo/OXj0YVP-TjU/s1600/1385576809002.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yeLWW6eByg0/U28_WBFRAdI/AAAAAAAAAVk/OmmcFNDN_bU/s1600/1385576948976.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hwh6XwV2aKk/U28_WK4WCII/AAAAAAAAAVc/G3hanaUEGR4/s1600/1385577285646.jpg

Here are some photos of how I began to make my doorways. I always start with sketches. The only difference between the new one I'm making here and the originals is that I used corrugated card to build the arch from the template rather than foam/cappa board, I just doubled the card its about the same thickness.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lcU49I2u1Ko/U28_W5Zp2NI/AAAAAAAAAWI/AsjgGteIZrc/s1600/1385577446910.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wA3O3JcKBLk/U28_XP1DWWI/AAAAAAAAAV4/ODfQLel-Fj4/s1600/1385577787431.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tn4fhWNqkIg/U28_XdivhOI/AAAAAAAAAV0/bPXPxUE9McA/s1600/1385578451047.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O3g157MF3qw/U28_YO_ft-I/AAAAAAAAAWE/MQFQ9cAJFeo/s1600/1385578542164.jpg

So cut out the arch, cut the base from thick card and glued to corrugated card for extra strength. Then glued the arch to the base using same PVA glue as through out, put to one side to dry.
Will get back to you with fun bits and template sizes when I have time. :)

02-12-2013, 22:50
Everything about this plog looks particularly fine.

Please though - get either a photobucket (or similar photo hosting) account or set up a blogsite, then we can see your pics properly :)

Awesome so far though!

03-12-2013, 15:55
Well thank you all very much for your kind comments. I had quite a few reservations about putting my stuff on the "Net".
One of the main ones being my inability with computers.
However I have grown up children who may be able to help, so I will be looking into it Purplebeard, do not fear.
Will complete archways soon but work and then illness have done for me.

04-12-2013, 15:39
So here is the next installment of archway building, the Daxio way!

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ip2dgbVzVJc/VJhpL2LI_HI/AAAAAAAAFOg/nFsQDMrAyzE/s1600/1471845_10202130166848873_2009866502_n.jpg https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/r90/1470009_10202130166888874_819481018_n.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aBDn0NVBezI/VJhpIV0gJMI/AAAAAAAAFNw/ananHJ-zySc/s1600/1454927_10202130166968876_844260645_n.jpg https://scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/r90/1451599_10202130167248883_1709632024_n.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iVbYpXnBvAk/VJhpHKnHXMI/AAAAAAAAFNg/anebTKVKQXA/s1600/1426306_10202130167888899_961475267_n.jpghttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uHQvKLqgwxQ/VJhpHXPRvUI/AAAAAAAAFNc/c1-JTWD2syA/s1600/1450179_10202130167728895_189800416_n.jpghttp://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0dkkfqrCvuw/VJhpL5qDruI/AAAAAAAAFOk/pVyiG6mdqz0/s1600/1472930_10202130167408887_1413406477_n.jpghttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JtIVmSc8EsM/VJhpNRQS0iI/AAAAAAAAFPA/0niRKL3Dakk/s1600/1476662_10202130168048903_1252073234_n.jpg

So used template again and cereal packet: cut shape, then marked and cut brick shapes to clad archway, glued all bits on both sides. Then cut 5mm ceral card strips for inside of archway to strengthen.
I hope these pictures are better!

04-12-2013, 15:53
Nearly the end of the building process, just making fancy and a few strenthening tips.

Using whatever i have to hand, cereal card, thicker card and barbeque skewers, cocktail sticks, pieces from my bits box- decorate the archway.
I use a mix of sand and PVA to create a cement to seal edges of base for strength- I use this stuff a lot.
Will paint archway when my head has stopped hurting from all this computer business!!!!

04-12-2013, 17:33
Top tips! Thank you :)

Here is final painted Archway. Lots of dry brushing with; the fang; Fenrisian grey; white; lines in bleached bone

https://scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/r90/936065_10202136023835294_1090408400_n.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fl6nIm3YHGk/VJhpJ7KHdrI/AAAAAAAAFOA/VfAEIdxvyHY/s1600/1461677_10202136024115301_880485509_n.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dkc13fcULGs/VJhpKGALycI/AAAAAAAAFOI/Vjb7bNdQgcE/s1600/1463987_10202136024275305_93651651_n.jpg

The only extra thing I do is coat whole model with cheap, acrylic oak wood stain, its a bit like armybuilder stuff, allegedly.
I do this with everything I make.

05-12-2013, 17:34
Looking good! I use oak varnish on my terrain too- adds shading and varnishes at the same time :)
Leaves a slightly glossy finish I find, which brand do you use? I use wilkinsons own brand 'dark oak' wood varnish.

05-12-2013, 18:55
Its the Dreaded B&Q stuff, have tried deep mahogany- bit red, and settled on dark or antique oak depends which they have.
I use it on everything, figures, terrain, the lot, is a bit glossy, you're right, but I've got used to it,
think its great :)

This is the Inn that we start most of our adventures from in the City of Jaccio.
Luckily they let dogs in so Jazz is ok...
All the items are scratch built, great fun to do and I have to say plenty of inspiration came from "DMinfo and DM scotty's" tutorials.

12-12-2013, 15:27
Finally a larger picture, Serefina enjoying a meal with Bjorg and Jazz, while Crue gets the drinks in!
If it weren't for Serefina's obvious beauty, settlements could be difficult, no one wants to be chucked out by the guard!

17-12-2013, 12:54
Here is the latest room I've been working on, realised there were several smaller sections that I hadn't completed!

The torches are made from old pencils with green stuff ontop. All materials baring, greenstuff and paint, are recycled and board cost nothing to make.

29-12-2013, 11:24
Some pictures of dungeon furniture I've been working on, not sure if its Quest I should be playing or making dolls houses!!

Also not good at using the stuff yet, you'll see later in a battle report I leave it out almost completey.

29-12-2013, 11:34
Some close ups of individual pieces.

29-12-2013, 11:39

29-12-2013, 13:05
Your markers look brilliant. They will really bring your quests to life. Well done sir!

Especially like the lollypop stick bookcase. How about painting some titles on the books? need to think of some funny books;)

29-12-2013, 14:37
I also love the bookcase. Shows how lolly sticks are brilliant materials for terrain making. How did you make the books?

29-12-2013, 15:19
Got all ideas from South African bloke, TheDMGinfo, he shows how to make books, bookcase and loads of good stuff, take a look.

Thanks for kind comments by way :-]

30-12-2013, 06:10
THAT is a great furniture collection. I especially like the Iron Throne you've got there!

02-01-2014, 12:05
Lovely stuff here. Added accessories really bring games like Warhammer Quest to life and you've got plenty! I Look forward to more updates.

10-01-2014, 13:23
These are pictures of basic models from Quest which I have had painted a while but never got round to photographing. They are mostly very old originals, Quest actually got me into playing Warhammer many years ago, or they're conversions.

Most of the smaller spiders are hand made from green stuff, I wasn't prepared to pay ebay prices. The rest I had kept from the original boxed set although I had given rest away!!!!

10-01-2014, 13:41
Some bats, again some home made. I'll have a go at modelling figures but am not brilliant.

Snotlings, love em.

The goblins are a mixture of old and new. In my goblin army I have a unit of 100 original Quest goblins with spears....fun!:)

10-01-2014, 16:51
I love checking in on this plog. Great stuff you've got here. I really admire the doorways, the ones that come in the box set are all identical and I always wanted more variety in there. Love how dirty and stained the floors are. That well is awesome too! Keep it up!

10-01-2014, 17:09
Cheers benvolio, thanks for the encouragement :) I try to make everything look a bit distressed and dark ( disguises my paining ability ) think it fits in with the underworld feel of Quest.
What I want to make are lots of little piles of bones or rubble or weapons that I can scatter about the objective or dungeon rooms, they're a bit flat at the moment.
Will take some pics when I get them done.

Basic Orcs, again a hotch potch!

16-01-2014, 14:38
Hi here's a bit of an update, just finished Shamen's Den, bowls and knives etc all on separate sections so they can be added or taken away.

16-01-2014, 14:47
And now with some of the larger monsters we use.

Ogres, from Reaper Bones.

Minotaurs, without flash this time... better photo perhaps?

Lots of window sill ;)

16-01-2014, 15:02
This time Reaper Trolls.

I am definitely a speed painter, have painted about 7 or 8, 5,000 pt Warhammer armies, over many years!
Think I will try to use natural light more often, it makes my models look not quite so glossy.;)

18-01-2014, 13:07
They have a nice dark feel to them, even in bright sunlight they look shadowy. Well done! The tiles look great too, the height differences work well.

18-01-2014, 16:26
Cheers twychdyn appreciate your comments,:) will keep using the darker tones, suits my style of painting.
Am going to make the room of skulls next then finally flames of kazalla, if that's how its spelled.
Then I've plans to create a set of 3 rooms of my own design, but that is for the future.

18-01-2014, 22:05
Nice looking Trolls and Ogres. Might get some of those Reaper models for my set. :)

21-01-2014, 22:54
The moody greys on the trolls and minotaurs have come off really well. I like the bases too.

28-01-2014, 13:20
Some new rooms, all made from card, hardboard, stones, sand, greenstuff, acrylic, finished off with dark oak varnish.
Flames of Kazala, the hall of death and then one of my own design, stepping stones.

28-01-2014, 14:01
I love your work! Tiles and monsters look great. I really like the way you've done the monsters' bases.

29-01-2014, 21:59
Fab looking dungeon and monsters - they must be really fun to play with.

What's next? Any Objective Rooms?

30-01-2014, 14:24
Thanks again for the comments fellas, really appreciate your comments.
Heres a larger room I've just finished, made it plain, can use it with a variety of bits added, can use it as a dungeon or objective room. Going to make a raised dias type area for the middle in end and a fire pit, to get as much out of it as can.

Me and my wife play every couple of weeks, for last 6 months have had full set of 3D boards and it renewed our enjoyment of game- definitely.
Will be posting an adventure when I can get myself organised

06-02-2014, 10:46
A few more bits of furniture and a corridor 3 squares wide.

I'm trying to use larger rooms or corridors so that I can trial an idea I had for monster placement and it works easier with larger rooms. Will post results when I've had a go.

12-02-2014, 19:06
Well I hope this works, my attempt at a Quest video report, of sorts.
Be kind.

Edit: this link does not work as i| reposted the film later in the blog. Ta.

12-02-2014, 21:18
Very nicely done and nice quest background to go with the word text script was a nice touch.

12-02-2014, 21:25
Well I hope this works, my attempt at a Quest video report, of sorts.
Be kind.

It's a cool idea and thank you for posting I planned to try my hand at something similar for Space Hulk.
Couple comments;
1) I think it would be cooler to narrate the text rather then need to read it - I think this is an easy change that would make the report much better (value for time spent)
2) Really cool would be the odd bit of stop motion for cinematic effect - like maybe just for the final battle (google stop motion space hulk to get an idea what I mean) - obviously this would be very time consuming but I think it would be really neat for a special "game highlight" - but a bit less value for time spent (probably spend a minute per second filmed)

13-02-2014, 15:11
Thanks for your comments and ideas,
was gonna narrate the film, but had cold for last 3 months and didn't want to wait any longer to put it online- also I hate my voice when recorded, sound like an east end thug :)
will experiment with recording techniques and see how goes.
Love the idea of doing some stop motion animation, but as you say time could be an issue. I have seen the space hulk film you mention, it is very good.
Will certainly have a play with animation, see how it goes.
Thanks again.

13-02-2014, 16:36
Yeah I think many people feel the same way about their voices being recorded. A bit easier for me since I was thinking there must be an app to add static/robotic qualities to recorded voice that would work well for Space Hulk.
At least have a go - I found the text a bit difficult to read and all I really wanted to look at was the photos - so narration even if you don't like the sound of it would still add value IMO. Check out this quick little animated gif I did from an old blood bowl game. http://nafcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/spazzpwned.gif

13-02-2014, 19:11
Ta for ideas,
disguise my voice, that could be done, :)
And I liked the animation, looks good.
I understand what you mean about reading and trying to follow the pictures, will have to bite the bullet and record my lovely tones!!!!

13-02-2014, 19:25
quick google suggests vox screaming bee has a free app :)

14-02-2014, 15:45
Really fantastic work on your quest set! The varied dungeon doors are great and all the furniture details are excellent. I like your own rooms too! Do you have rules for the stepping stone room?

15-02-2014, 10:35
Hi Herebedragons, thanks, I've made a card to go with the stepping stones and will scan it in when I get a chance, but I've not used it in a game yet so hadn't thought of rules.
Probably base them roughly on the chasm of doom with a few alterations. Initially I wanted some corridors that just looked and played different because they were 3 squares wide, but the stepping stones does need some more thought. On the card its down as a corridor, but on a 4+ there will be an event. There is only enough space for one character per step, perhaps because they are floating hand to hand might be that bit more difficult, so everyone could be at -1 to hit???? Also fumbles could lead to chance of tumbling to your death- that seems a bit extreme for PCs, but you get where I'm coming from. Needs more thought and time than I have just now. :)
Will get back to you when I can :)

20-02-2014, 18:34
Hi everyone, been finishing off some models. The three characters from Quest box were only painted a week or 2 ago. Only had them since 1993/4, not bad eh?

No dwarf because he's holding up my dwarf general on a shield with some other lucky fella!

20-02-2014, 18:41
I made these cards to experiment with altered deployment for monsters, am still developing them and not sure if they help the game. Certainly in larger rooms they have a place, but some just don't work at all in smaller rooms with say 12 orcs turning up, the card becomes a bit superfluous as every space is filled.

Have used them in 3 games now, will see how goes. :)
Has anyone tried the same, what were your conclusions? am I wasting my time?

21-02-2014, 20:24
Hi all, this is a follow up report to my last attempt.
This one is fully narrated, only a little intro to read.

23-02-2014, 00:20
I like those cards! The monsters always just popping up in front of your face never completely sat well with me...

23-02-2014, 16:06
Thought I would attach the scans of the cards, not because I think they are wonderful particularly, just so people can use them if they want.

They do for me but I like home made rustic charm.;)
Will probably add some more at some stage.
How do I use them? Well when a monster appears, draw a card- position models as best I can- then shuffle card back into deck for next set of monsters.

11-03-2014, 12:23
For some time now I have been trying to add to number of characters we have available to play with. Also am trying to encourage some mates to play.
So been working on these. Trying to create more female characters too.

Druid is made from wizard from heroquest and goblin shamen hand/sickle
Female elf is from Reaper.
Bret knight is made from torso of mounted knight with legs of chaos warrior with green stuff to create skirts
Ogre merc was in my orc bloodbowl team, but made an axe and now he'll get more use.

18-03-2014, 10:33
Ahoy hoy to all, thought I would post these as they show what I have been working on. Been trying to develop a roleplay thread through our games to tie them together. If you have watched my films you'll know what I mean. These three characters are a trio that hang about together.
Hasak the sorcerer, Painfury the deamonette and Gabrad the Carnal a chaos lord.

Can't take responsibility for coming up with these characters as they appear in an old Advanced Heroquest adventure from White Dwarf from the 90's.
But I took the plot and used it, slightly altered, for Quest. That suggested a whole series of linked adventures in which Serefina and Crue had to hunt the group down.
To date they have not caught any of them, although Hasak has almost been captured twice.
He will also feature in their next adventure, when we eventually get the chance to play!

19-03-2014, 11:22
To go along with the models I wanted to have all their details in one place, mainly because my Quest roleplay book is beginning to fall to bits. The fewer times I can open it the better.
Hence the character sheets, copied half size for convenience

Along with these the other problem with looking stuff up in the roleplay book is the magic spells for Hasak; so I made these

Also I didn't like the idea of no consequences to spell failure, so I introduced miscasts.
The good thing is that these cards can be used, with a bit of adding too, by several races.

Should think you've all realised that I like cards by now, always have. I thought the introduction of spell cards was a great idea in Warhammer and think these will save my poor roleplay book from further ware.

20-03-2014, 00:46
Love the hand made cards! Simple effective draughtsmanship and cool colouration. The miscast idea is also pretty great. I assume you just shuffle the cards and draw to simulate the random nature of WHQ magic? Reminds me of Critical Hit and Critical Fumble cards for Pathfinder. Nice idea!

20-03-2014, 02:39
loving the custom dungeon floor plans and doorways that you have done here!

20-03-2014, 15:17
Thanks very much artful, have seen your recent purchase too, good luck with it, ...be careful, its addictive! :)
Ta S_A_T_S, yep the cards just get shuffled back in and reshuffled before next spell is cast. As you say its random every time.

23-03-2014, 13:39
Hi, this is a really late reply to Herebedragons, asking for rules to the stepping stones board I made.
Well here you are, my ideas, but if you have any others then post them here, would be glad to hear them.
Some pics to remind you what we are talking about.

Here are the rules I came up with and the card I made. :)

23-03-2014, 17:47
This may sound obvious and a tad dumb but how do you make the cards? They are awesome!

23-03-2014, 20:45
@Lardidar; not at all fella :)
I use plain index cards, the large ones, 5 inches by 8 inches. cut in half then folded.
Make templates using the blank event card for dimensions, as pics indicate, the strip for the titles is 6 mm deep, make longer than card for grippage! :)
Write in with Pilot or similar pen and colour with colouring pencils.

Scan original backs and glue to card you've made.
The other cards that I've made, where I drew both sides, I just repeated the method for both sides.
Not gonna kid you they take a while to make, usually do mine while watching TV.
Finally pop in a Dragon Shield clear sleeve.
Hope that helps. :)

23-03-2014, 21:15
Thank you sir.

I am just in the planning phase of starting my own quest, I have none of the official kit so am planning to make it all. These are by far the nicest cards I have seen online, so much better than the originals.

Plus who doesn't love a little coloring in!

23-03-2014, 21:43
Well, if colouring in is good enough for Ozzy Ozborne, its good enough for me. ;)
An all home made set would really be fantastic, good luck.

29-03-2014, 12:01
Thought I would share the madness of how we play a game.

Really like playing on this elevated surface, used to play straight on table but had no room for character info etc.

At moment, am in middle of creating new table top- fancied making a folding play area which I want to be able to use for other games, Mordheim, Necromunda or Deadzone;
so got a wall paper pasting table, so far have just swopped hinges round, still a lot to do. Will post picks when done.
Why am I making this? mainly because the board on picks is just a little small and the odd occasional game will just not fit.

No matter how I try to organise it well, something always gets forgotten
Boxes of models are under the table.

29-03-2014, 12:40
I did something similar, might help?
Awesome who set up btw :)

29-03-2014, 12:54
:) Yep have seen your stirling work there fella, it was your Plog that made me think it was way to go.
Not just the portable board either, there are loads of great ideas for cheap terrain- right up my street!
Definitely inspiring.

30-03-2014, 20:29
Cheers! Good to see what other people do with ideas as they often improve them :)

Heavens that puts the pressure on!!!!! Ta Andy_T ;)
Well this is all I have so far, pasting table with hinges swopped over.

Got to find some timber and poly to fill the inside, not sure if I am gonna try to do multi levels.
Think i'll do 3 inch squares on inside and make it more urban, so can be used for Necromunda or Deadzone. The former I have not played for 3 years and the later... never! But I live in hope.
Outside will be plain with sand to texture. This is the side I'm more likely to use for Quest, but even as I write this I'm thinking the urban side would be good for town adventures, so....
Will do some designs and see what happens.

01-04-2014, 17:24
I'm really liking both you guys tables! The only thing that stops me doing something similar is that I don't have a surface to place it on! I have pasting tables but the legs always seemed pretty flimsy. Are you planning to place yours on a table you already have?

Interested to see exactly how you will do the interior of your table. I can't quite picture it yet.

01-04-2014, 18:15
Well I intend placing it on the structure I already have for playing Quest on.
So essentially its gonna replace the board in the picture below (which is half an old door)
Its just three pieces of chip board, slotted to raise the play area off the table.
This new folding board will be bigger and portable. Am not using legs at all, in fact they are now glued inside to give it structure.

But want to use the other side as just a flat playing surface, which I can carry about if necessary for Necromunda/Deadzone.
Probably just to provide a textured surface to place on another table to create a play area.

03-04-2014, 05:32
Very nice set up - I'm sure I missed your explanation - but do you run the game with low light to get the full effect of the flickering eCandles?

03-04-2014, 09:12
To be honest not sure I've mentioned it, yep we have the lights down low and put the candles on, real ones led to burns, hence the fake 'ns. Gives great atmosphere but does make taking pictures quite hard, usually have to take 2 per shot as can't see what am shooting on phone till after flash has gone off! We also have music on in the background, use Skyrim, LOTR, Dead Can Dance, Crouching Tiger... jumbled together in a playlist and on a loop on PC. All adds to the experience. :)

04-04-2014, 11:24
This is what the base area looks like, difficult to see from previous pictures.

Made out of three bits of old kitchen shelving, slotted, covered in bits of spare card, cereal packet etc, then painted.
It stands ontop of the dinning room table and raises the play area up. Gives loads of space to put character sheets and cards etc underneath.
As well as candles ;)

Boig has a spectacular posterior, being half Troll, half goblin; rumours abound that she was once courted by Grom the Paunch!

Been working on a new NPC for Quest adventures- Boig Boitha and her group of goblin guards. Have made cards for them all, so can appear in random quest.
But I usually use them to pop in and out of adventures to create continuity, like having a group of arch enemies.
Obviously with only 2 of us playing I have to try to act impartial when they appear, and don't allow my prior knowledge to influence my actions.
It allows me to sort of half roleplay certain parts of the adventure, makes the adventures more connected and mean more to all concerned.
If they get killed could be a ridiculous waste of time, so when they do, I apply the Mordheim, "Heroes' serious injury chart" to them, for next adventure.
If they get "Dead" result ignore until 5 rolls or I see fit. Like to have NPCs appear for an adventure or 2 then take a back seat for long while.
At moment I have 3 sets of NPCs which I rotate through. Want to make a set for each major deck I have made.

04-04-2014, 13:03
So here are the Goblin Boss Guard. Boitha's Boyz with hand weapons, and the Boig Guard, sporting halberds.
If I can find some more bits, fancy adding to these to make an elite unit for my goblin horde. Boitha could fight alongside Grom.

Made from some old chaos warrior bodies from ebay, and spare goblin heads and arms, held in place with green stuff.

05-04-2014, 08:59
Excellent imagination and execution, it is the homemade touches like this that make the specialist games so personal. I feel it is what has gone from the flagship games and that is a shame.

I can just see Grom downing a few mad cap mushrooms to build up the courage to hit on Boig!

May I ask another question? what size are the individual squares on your board? I was looking at 40mm but that would make objective rooms huge, so am thinking maybe 35mm, I want to try and make space to add larger based creatures as we eventually move up warrior levels.

Still in the planning process for me but I am off to order some stuff to start making your awesome cards this week and am on an Ebay hunt for level 1 monster table figures.

05-04-2014, 10:38
I totally agree with you Lardidar, it is whats missing from the main stream games. Have read through the thread started by Harry and it leaves me feeling sad to see all these games unsupported. On the other hand, look at all the inspirational work we see on these threads every day - quite fantastic.
Love the idea of Boig and Grom getting it together. :)
As regards the square size, mine are 30 mm square, with a 15 mm border round edge. However I've seen all sizes, up to 45 mm, so really its up to you.
Make a mock up in cereal packet card and see how it looks. The originals are 30 mm but does it matter? Not really.
Take your time and start when you happy. That's what I did anyway. :)

05-04-2014, 14:42
Still in the planning process for me but I am off to order some stuff to start making your awesome cards this week and am on an Ebay hunt for level 1 monster table figures.

Haha, is it you that keeps bidding on the same items as me then >_< . Glad to hear your making a start though! :)

05-04-2014, 14:48
Haha, is it you that keeps bidding on the same items as me then >_< . Glad to hear your making a start though! :)

Not yet, bid on a few boxes of quest but i'll never win one as I wont break 100 for it.

Starting to gather a nice list of figures I want though ... window shopping is the best :)

05-04-2014, 23:15
I like big buts, oh I cannot lie... :p

Boig looks pretty fierce. Kinda like some of the women where I live.

06-04-2014, 10:37
Well she did take a lot of green stuff to model, both at the rear and her bust.

Boig looks pretty fierce. Kinda like some of the women where I live.

Heavens!!!! :D

10-04-2014, 10:09
Quick update on how the new play area is going. Added interior structure of timber; cut out 2 lower level sections; glued and nailed hardboard interior.

Got to use my favorite nail.... "Black Japanned Gimp Pins" ..... what a name! :p

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SxPlKCZsYz4/U2Z22vJNHXI/AAAAAAAAAD0/IfiFa7RJj2Y/s1600/10001092_10202975545582813_5242017588217374686_o.j pg
Exterior covered in sand;painted black; dry brushed grey and red.

Interior covered in 3" squares so I can use it as an urban setting or for Necromunda/Deadzone.
Next stage is to complete interior with squares, then undercoat black, dry brush grey and seal with varnish/stain.
Exterior needs sealing with varnish.
Will post further when all done.

Wow! See I told you you'd improve the design :D looks awesome

You are too kind, will reserve judgement about how good it is when its up and we can play on it. Which won't be for a while, life keeps getting in the way. ;)

10-04-2014, 21:11
Fantastic work .... I can't help but feel you come up with an idea and I try to steal it :)

What size is the board, looks 3" ish in the photos.

@Andy_T I have not read your threads yet but they on on my 'should be working, lets slack a bit' list for tomorrow.

11-04-2014, 10:25
Thanks Lardidar, but its definitely not my idea, that's the beauty of these forums; they share ideas and keep the specialist games alive and thriving. :)
The paste board is 44" by 35", its the standard B&Q table. If you are gonna buy one give them a thorough look over, they can be warped or just not well made.

21-04-2014, 09:52
Well another year gone, 52, and I still look like Gobbla!!!!!!

Cheers artfultodger2k and Shas'El Tael, been a rough few days- hangover from hell!!!.
I share my birthday with Iggy Pop and The Queen, we always go out for a few jars together, Iggy's ok, but The Queen is a bit of a handful when she's had a drink or 3!!!!!
Thanks again, will post some new stuff when my head stops pounding :)

Ahoy hoy to all! Have been hard at work on my folding table/Quest board. Finally got it painted yesterday. The plain side will be for standard Quest games.

May have to work a little more on the screw heads, didn't realise till now that they really stand out!!!!

This side we will use for urban adventures and possibly Mordheim/Necromunda/deadzone.

I used some colour test pots to paint - 75ml, mainly from Crown, they worked well. Although their black is more of a dark grey.
Then coated in dark oak acrylic varnish-B&Q.
Will take some more photo's with board set up so you can see how it all should work together.

30-04-2014, 16:57
looks fantastic mate.
a suggestion for the screws, just use a bit of foliage type flock (not static grass) but something like I use on my WHQ figures (http://gwpertinent.blogspot.ca/2007/01/warhammer-quest.html) and do some other spots where there aren't screws too ;)

30-04-2014, 17:06
That is a great idea fella, will definitely get that done, Ta for the tip :)

30-04-2014, 17:29
would be obvious if you only did the screws, but if you pick some other random spots it will just blend in.
opposite side looks great for a huge deadzone game - did you buy into the kickstarter? got any figs painted yet?

30-04-2014, 17:39
Am looking forward to using the urban side of the board, got a promo copy of game, mate runs a shop, but didn't do kickstarter, also have not painted a thing yet- very poor, very poor :(

30-04-2014, 19:12
have not painted a thing yet- very poor, very poor :(

I keep a google docs folder with all the latest PDFs and "helper" pdfs. PM me with your email if you want the link.
I have been pretty slow painting them. Ended up starting the marauders (the last faction I thought I would) because the enforcer stuff got delayed and the scheme for my plague means doing it all in one batch. So I only have a couple commandos, a mawbeast and a ripper suit finished. But I find it easy to proxy marines for enforcers, genestealers for plague and am working out some proxies for rebs (http://gwpertinent.blogspot.ca/2014/04/new-necromunda-photos-deadzone-rebs.html) at the moment. So get some games in!

30-04-2014, 19:42
That sounds handy will PM you my email, My problem is too many projects on the go at the same time. Am presently converting and painting a horde of Seaguard. Converting done, paint looming!!! But am sure that I can have a go at some Plague, will let you know how get on. :)

30-04-2014, 21:44
Belated happy birthday and great job on the table- looks ace! Could you put some pics on of it folded up? Thinking of making another and like you multi layer idea :)

I'm happy with it, the background is a different colour from the tiles, but has similar tonal qualities, so works ok.

My problem; most of these buildings were made for WFB or Mordheim and are ruins. Townsfolk and villagers don't often like to live in ruins!!!

The dark colours on the board really keep your dungeon tiles and minis looking bright. They stand out really well. The other side looks absolutely perfect for setting up towns and villages between adventures. Would love one of these if I had the space to keep it all! Excellent work mate.

Ahoy hoy, this is what I have as my basic cottage, been a long time in the making, but think I have it sussed, so next is to make about 10. :D
As per usual, most of this has been made from recycled packaging, the cappa board I got given, very lucky!
Except for the cocktail sticks, matches and the BBQ skewers.

Wanted to have interior so models could actually enter buildings. Debated for long time whether to have walls attached to base (as they are) or attached to roof!!!
Should be painted in the next while and will post when I get chance.

06-05-2014, 14:11
Fantastic. Love your WQ3D set. You have a talent of making great ideas work. Just when I think it can't get any better you post something that blows my mind away.:)

Thanks for all the comments fellas,

@artfultodger2k - every time I finish a piece I cover it in acrylic stain and I worry that its gonna look too dark or just rubbish, so thanks :)

@deamonslave - soon as I get to play a game on the board i'll post some pic, cheers for support :)

@Andy_T - you're welcome fella :)

@Geoh - Ta fella, thanks for the smashing comments, really appreciate them. :)

Am in process of creating another 3 buildings, all quite similar, for village/town quests.

12-05-2014, 15:38
is the cat for scale purposes? or thinking of painting him up as a monster?? :)

12-05-2014, 21:11
That is an interesting proposition..... here puss...here puss......
now, could I convert him into a huge Lion Chariot of Chrace...... just need another cat!!!!!!!
( Before anyone complains or informs the RSPCA, I would like to point out that I am a cat and dog lover, presently owning 5 cats:
the notion of converting any of them into over sized warhammer models could not be further from my mind.) ;)

15-05-2014, 09:40
Have been working on three cottages at once, to save time, not sure if its worked or not yet.

The basic shells have been finished in this picture, some of the brick cladding is done.

Here they have had their roof sections added, chimneys, interiors, panels, windows and doors to complete before painting. :)
For more pictures see my blog below.

15-05-2014, 21:36
cool idea, Let your heroes stretch their legs outdoor!

15-05-2014, 21:52
Well I've always fancied a sort of Mordheim type adventure, instead of a gang, a few select heroes. We recently played a game of Quest which began in an inn, where a local Lord was kidnapped during an attack on the whole village by some beastmen. It worked fine, and led onto a protracted adventure trying to get the unfortunate fella back for his brother. I just wanted the buildings to be more village like and develop some rules for town adventures- which I am still working on. :)

22-05-2014, 09:56
Taking a break from the buildings for a while, completed a magic deck for orcs and goblins. Fun to make, but they take a while.

28-05-2014, 14:31
Some time ago I began making films, of a sort, about our adventures. Each is about 10 minutes long and follow a narrative campaign. They are a bit of fun, but may not make you laugh, depends on your perspective! ;)
Both are fully narrated with a short text intro, should be posting another one soon. Hope you enjoy them.

The Late Prince (#1)

Don't Look Now (#2)

28-05-2014, 16:00
Mate the narration is top notch!! Much better viewing than the first one, I have finished the late prince and will check out don't look now later :)

28-05-2014, 17:09
Ta natsirtm, thanks for support, much appreciated. :)

28-05-2014, 20:29
I love your own take on quest - personally I would get fed up with colouring each card and do it on the computer but yours is far more personalised and unique. Keep it up!

28-05-2014, 20:45
Well to be honest Daemonslave its one of those things that I start with enthusiasm and end very close to a mental breakdown. If my computer skills were better I would be creating them there, from my perspective its frustrating using the PC. So, I'm envious of people like yourself who can use the computer well. :) But thanks for your comments.

28-05-2014, 23:22
haha, love it! I really want you to use a morgan freeman style voice-over on your next one!!

29-05-2014, 09:45
Morgan Freeman eh? That might well be beyond my abilities, limited as they are! ;)

29-05-2014, 16:32
As promised this is the next short film, detailing the adventures of Serefina and Crue.
Follows same format as previous two.

Hunting Hasak (#3)

Sorry artfultodger2K no Morgan Freeman :(

29-05-2014, 20:01
Something happened to video 2

29-05-2014, 20:22
Cheers for heads up natsirtm, should be ok now,

Here it is again just in case. :)

02-06-2014, 14:28
A hoy hoy all, here is a quick report from a game we played at the weekend, not sure if people like the video reports so have put together some stills with a bit of commentary, but if you want to watch the film its only 8 mins long here...

It seemed that the whole City of Jaccio had been struck down with Mork's Rot. The death toll was mounting. But there may be a cure! Beneath the city, in the ancient waterways, a fountain is hidden. Within its pools lie pure precious water.

Serefina, Jazz, Crue and Bjorg have been given task of reaching the fountain and bringing back the pure health inducing waters.

Confronted by an ogre, Serefina casts Charm and he wonders off.

https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/l/t1.0-9/1455985_10203335340777468_2978377744754927203_n.jp g?oh=17db665e5afe492c037ce6dd99c20e75&oe=553D48D3

The group despatch the shamen before he can cast, Crue and Jazz thump him while Serefina casts Wither.

The team enter what they think may be the last corridor.

Surrounded by Boig and her Goblin Guard, can the PC's get to the fountain?

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10363909_10203335345897596_6680237672901322293_n.j pg?oh=685c0411a96205c9162f66f1c78859e3&oe=55418421&__gda__=1425894980_55d47e3c2ab33b124ef271365892c1d 8

After a protracted battle the adventurers pull through.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t31.0-8/10258339_10203335357257880_7490084495212809275_o.j pg

Only Boig left, Serfina casts first a Ray of Spite, then Wither to kill her opponent off.

Crue manages to gather the pure waters, Jaccio City will be safe.

This is a reworking of the Forest Tiles that I made back in January. Initially they were very plain, I didn't want to put too much detail on them so that I could add separate pieces to make them individual. However I recently looked at the work of Nychthemeron and it really inspired me to alter the tiles I had completed.
So I've added card, flock, stones, static grass and bits of wood to create patterns in each section. My take on Forest Quest is that the forest is around the pathways that lead through it, so there are paths, winding paths, glades and objective clearings.

Then I put some especially made bush sections around each tile to give it that forest feel, thats why the tiles are rather straight than curvy. Finally I get some trees and drop them between the tiles just to add to the look.
Have to say thanks again for inspiration from Nychthemeron without your enchanted forest I doubt I would have revisited my project. Ta :)

05-06-2014, 23:30
You haven't been lazing off with this! That's a lot of green. I like the foresty doorways. It's like some sort of magical garden-labyrinth.

06-06-2014, 10:09
Daxio - Do you own a mansion to keep all this stuff in?! Great stuff, would love to be at one of your Games with all these goodies to play with :)

06-06-2014, 10:44
Good lord,... live in a mansion,.... no,... I wish! :) Just lots of boxes piled up in a spare room. My kids have all left home.
Seriously, if I hadn't seen your enchanted forest I would not have revisited them, so glad I saw your work and reviewed mine, thanks fella for the kick up the nether regions and inspiration. :D
Made all the little plant sections from some cheap fish tank sets from pound shop (I think) but since have bought some far better stuff from a place called country baskets, much more realistic.

13-06-2014, 11:22
Taking inspiration from Harry's Bee, :) here is a lizard that I bought from a toy shop a year ago, one of 8 for 1, along with some frogs, similarly priced.

Here it is all based up and ready to go, can see it appearing in my forest quest set.

In the middle of making some cards, makes me think I may make a "Death World" set of animals and possibly plants, we'll see.

14-06-2014, 15:49
Been working on some new characters, so here is a pic.

From left to right: witch hunter, generic elf, assassin/rogue/outlaw and shaman. Apart from the mordheim elf, all the rest were put together from bits of stuff I had lying about.

21-06-2014, 23:16
Looking good. Any chance of some more shots of your entire town / village

22-06-2014, 09:25
Will do as soon as I get a chance, will try to post this week coming. Was also thinking of making a short film with all the slides, but will see when I've had a chance to take pics. Thanks for interest Daemonslave :)

25-06-2014, 09:45
Ahoy hoy, took a load of pics the other day, of the village.
Two things came to mind: that I still do not have enough cottages or altered Mordheim models, second that if I'm portraying a village, its most likely going to be on a more natural grassy background.

25-06-2014, 09:50

Here as a village.

Obviously cushions are a crucial part of the photographic experience ;)

08-07-2014, 11:57
Some time ago I planned to make the Chiefs Cave, it came to my attention as part of a scenario printed in White Dwarf (edition 100) in the 80's, the Floating Gardens of Bahb-Elonn (possible misspelling there). A great adventure with Pygmies, what could be better!
So here is my version after a bit of tinkering, my first cavern. I intend making another 6, plus the Tribal hall. We'll see how it goes.

As usual there are some more images on my blog, with some models thrown about.

10-07-2014, 10:11
Finished this cavern last night, the Roots Room, AKA the Snotling Lair.

Really enjoyed making this one, although was quite fiddly. The roots are just toilet roll dipped in watered down wood glue, then left to set.
Then I went back and added some smaller roots with my glue gun.

10-07-2014, 11:33
Whoa! I really like this piece. Colors, general feeling, the reapers... Superb work with the roots, considering the material.

11-07-2014, 09:26
Cheers Nychthemeron :) will post some shots of my WFB trees some time, they're all made in the same way. Loo roll works fine, just needs time to dry before painting and I get impatient.
Have one last cavern to complete for time being then I want to make their cards.

21-07-2014, 10:26
I know these are only slightly linked with Quest but had mentioned home made trees earlier.
Not enough dosh to get GW trees or inclination so made them myself;
Hard board bases, covered in sand and stones; a basic card shape to build on; bent the frame; covered in toilet paper infused with wood glue and water; after painting I glued some clumps of foliage onto the outer edges.

21-07-2014, 12:11
It's a brilliant technique and execution. These can take comparison to GW trees any day!

21-07-2014, 12:14
Ta Nychthemeron :) , they are a bit square, the angles of the boughs are limited by the card base, but then I think the GW ones are a bit that way too.

26-07-2014, 05:59
Hi Daxio,

Just viewed your Blogg. Was wondering when you was gionig to post your 3 new ladies on here. They look awesome.:)

26-07-2014, 10:22
Thanks for looking at the blog Geoh, :)
Have been working quite a bit on Undead models that I needed to play upcoming sequence of Quest games.
I had realised that our main characters were outstripping the enemy, so started ramping up the opposition.

Yep, the Wights are made from 90's black orcs, while the Gorgons are primarily bits from the wood elves with a hand made "snakey" bit underneath.
Always feel I should say that my models are made to play with, I am not the best painter, but I can paint a lot to playing standard- what i'm saying is that I do not love painting and am not about to enter any comps, but do not like to play with unpainted models either.
Still have some other chaos and creature stuff to do, but they are way off, will post when complete.

30-07-2014, 12:35
Well this is it! Not going to be making any more buildings ever again. I think I may have just enough.

Well that is after I've finished the Inn and the small temple I have planned , oh and the extra bits to make a blacksmiths forge...... but apart from that....
more barrels, crates, bags, chimneys and bottles.... ;)

There are loads more pictures on my blog as per usual.

31-07-2014, 14:36
Those nagas are incredible, with so simple bits... What did you use for the tails? The village ain't bad either! Especially the tower.

04-08-2014, 18:23
Hi Nychthemeron, thanks for comments,
the girl's tails were made from milliput rolled into a long sausage with Vaseline to smooth out and the wood elf bodies glued on. I had to support the models in place till they dried, then I added green stuff details.

I sort of draped the tails onto the 40mm base that I used and then twirled the tail round in a swirl, very much learning as I went. I did put a touch of superglue on the end of the tail after I was happy with it.
Sorry no pics of the matchsticks and blue tack that nearly drove me mad, mad, mad  when I tried to secure the floppy Gorgon models when they were first done!!!!!
I used 3 matchsticks with blue tack blobs on each end; one end on floor/table top the other end on the wood elf plastic bits, so the tail just hung there.
It was very fiddly. :)

13-08-2014, 07:56

18-08-2014, 10:57
Have been away walking in Northumberland, on Hadrian's wall and the like. Worked on the Chaos models I got by chance, soon as got back.
Use newer models as champions and old as warriors.

Realised that I have not completed the painting on the bases of the old style warriors, oh the shame.
@ Easygrin, ta fella, but they don't have three boobs, ;)

More stuff on blog, as usual.

23-08-2014, 16:17
Found these two pictures and thought they might be fun to see.

And the finished product again.

My two and the far superior model from Reaper.

29-08-2014, 10:27
I have been working on a film of our latest adventures. These take me quite a while since I am technologically challenged, I only do them every now and then, so each time I make one its like starting from fresh. I only remember the basics.

Warning, this one is 15 mins long, its 2 adventures in one. Also I was being hassled by my cat Marvin, hence the odd feline reference.

Unfinished business (#5)

31-08-2014, 11:43
So what on earth do I do about the name of this blog?
I should have seen this coming really.
All four of our longest serving characters died some two weeks ago, two of whom were Serefina and Crue, hence the blog name problem.

31-08-2014, 12:52
Uh, sorry to hear of your loss Daxio....... :( Serefina II maybe?

31-08-2014, 16:28
Nice idea, but not at the moment, we have new characters in the pipeline.
New adventures will heal the pain...;)

31-08-2014, 19:42
How sad.

Any thoughts on what type of Characters you will be using next time?

31-08-2014, 20:26
There has been much discussion, but looking like an ogre merc, for fun value, Elf mage, a witch elf and an assassin- odd bunch at best,
will post with pictures when confirmed.

07-09-2014, 19:06
I made these some time ago and just realised that I hadn't posted them here, so here goes.

Made from the usual bits of junk and an old box of beads that I found lying about. The scales on the alchemists table were the fiddly bit. :)
Will get some photos of our new party soon.

10-09-2014, 17:26
I have only just seen this thread, it is inspiring and such an interesting read. Needless to say I've replied so that I'm subscribed.:) Now I'm off to follow your blog!

10-09-2014, 17:59
Thanks for kind words Chickenbane, will try to keep you interested. :)
Gonna check out your blog now.

13-09-2014, 18:49
Well, we have gathered our new heroes and played one adventure so far, which we managed to survive!

Faroth the elf mage.

Blackhead Bill, the Ogre Merc

Gwendgoth, the witch elf.

Azzeraela the assassin.

Here's the film of their first outing.

14-09-2014, 15:19
Whoop. Nice looking group. How do you make up your band of adventures?
One of my players wanted to play Chaos warrior, but as a Gm I couldn't work out how to fit him in with the Elf ranger being our leader. Told him that we will have to make an Evil group. He then put a ban on the Ogre saying he was evil too. Tried to explain that the Ogres are neutral. Our group is now a Mage, Imperial noble, Elf ranger and Bretonnian knight.

15-09-2014, 09:31
Its a good question Geoh, and it does cause some problems when it comes to GM ing.

Basically we just choose which characters we want to play and then wrap the Big Story around them.

The back story to how these disparate characters could posssibly come together came from an recent adventure. Banish the Daemon, which I will be doing as a film, it introduced a possible arch enemy which could explain the characters union.

So the characters back story is that they all share a similar fate at the hands of the Daemon Thorgog B'Uttrip, who led a skirmishing force, which murdered all the relatives of our heroes. These four came together at the request of Serefina (previous character :cries:) to help her seek and destroy Thorgog, finding that Serefina was already dead the four decided, despite their different cultural backgrounds they would bind themselves together in order to complete the task.

Now I'm not suggesting its an easy alliance, but that can be part of the fun. I can see there being real problems in the future, especially if we encounter any Dark Elves, but we will have a chat as players and come up with a solution....hopefully.

I usually don't start to worry about group cohesion until they actually survive a game, but I've been surprised that these characters have survived two straight games now, perhaps we play better than we used too.

The story option I have gone for allows the characters to keep their differences, which I hope will lead to some interesting situations, but I could easily have suggested that Faroth, the High Elf mage, through a series of awful mis-adventures had been tainted by evil. That way the whole group would be on the nasty side.

I will just see how it goes for a while then introduce an adventure that might pose ethical problems for some or all of the characters.
Now, of course I have the fun of creating a model for Thorgog and any lackies he may have.
Hope that helps Goeh :)

15-09-2014, 15:03
Thanks Daxio.
I've now come up with a plan for the Chaos warrior. In the first edition of Warhammer fantasy roleplay there is a chaos god called Malal. He is a renegade and is devoted to destroying the other chaos gods. So was thinking that the group could come across a village dedicated to him and the players character could come from there. :)

Looking forward to your next video :)

16-09-2014, 09:43
That sounds good Geoh, there are some Pathfinder reports on you tube by Lord Tremendous- he has a mixed group too and first video has their backgrounds and shows how they fit together ish. Worth a watch.

27-09-2014, 15:27
Today I made some playing pieces that I hope will help to both play my character Faroth and bring the adventure reports to life a bit more.

They consist of a lightning strike marker, some heal markers and a confuse marker. I realised that the last adventure we had left some of the spells he cast, "forgotten to the shifting mists of time"... or "my head" as it is more commonly known.

I don't actually play with all his cards set up like this, it is a bit cramped, but it gives you an idea.

Now that I have made these just you watch how quickly he dies!!!

27-09-2014, 23:01
Looking good. What rules are you using for Faroth? Wizard rules?

Btw watched Lord Tremendous videos. They are very entertaining. Now waiting for your next adventure :)

28-09-2014, 01:14
I found some High Elf mage rules, very similar to the wizard, but get 4 spells to start.
I like the Lord Tremendous stuff, my next game will done next week I think. :)

07-10-2014, 13:19
Just quick post, this is what have been working on. SpaceQuest?

Am in middle of making doorways and wall sections of various lengths.

Know its not proper Quest but its related... ish.
More on Blog.

Also my latest film should be here
Its called Banish the Daemon, with Faroth, Bill, Gwengoth and Azzraela

07-10-2014, 18:50
Love the space hulk? Tiles and doors :)

Looking good Daxio as always.

Still playing Warhammer Quest Andy_T ? Not seen an update for quite sometime. :)

08-10-2014, 06:46
All necromunda at the mo mate- still got my level 4 elf on standby though :)

08-10-2014, 10:44
Cheers fella, :)
Will not really be posting this stuff here again, but will be lots on the blog, so that's the place to see them.
Going to start making cards etc to experiment with Quest in a Necromunda/Inquisitor type setting. Long term idea. ;)

08-10-2014, 11:08
Very nice! I like the idea of Space Quest, I'm curious to see how you will be going about it ruleswise... It's something that has been on my personal to-do/wishlist for some time as well.

08-10-2014, 20:26
Yep, going to be difficult. Lots of cards to make and models to gather, but that's the easy bit the real problems start when you start thinking about rules systems and especially character progression.
Not going to worry about it too much just yet, think with Necromunda, Quest and Inquisitor to help me I should only be struggling for the next few years!!!!! ;)

19-10-2014, 10:49
Here are some in game shots, well sort of, I had a play about this morning and took these. They show three new characters and an older hobbit model, its a LOTR model but its nice and small.
I have one other and I've made that into a Hobbit wizard, can't think of name just now, will be posting him when finished this week.
The others are a Slayer, a Pit Fighter and Warrior Priest.

I have decided to buy a new camera however, the one on my phone just isn't doing it for me. So sorry if some of the details are blurey, its not for sake of trying. I took these shots 3 times before they came anything like close to what I wanted. Have flash issues too!!!!!
Roll on new camera.

25-10-2014, 13:50
Here is my Light Counsel, three of them are the same model rearranged and green stuffed
New camera, trying to get to grips with it, still experimenting,

More pictures on blog. :)

03-11-2014, 10:15
Here is my version of the Witch Doctor's Cave, will be making a card to go with it later this week.

This mainly came about because I found the skull in a box of my sons bits that he left behind when he left home, it seemed like it lent itself to some piece of terrain or other.
He doesn't mind. ;)

The pillars and the skull are not glued in place, so I can put other furniture on it when I need too.

03-11-2014, 16:00
Looking good as always. :)

08-11-2014, 14:03
Cheers Geoh :), although there some bits I will have to look at again, like the pillars, hadn't realised I had rushed them quite so much.

Have finally got round to making my take on the dungeon entrance.
Have been thinking about making this for the last year, eventually I've jumped in. :)

19-11-2014, 18:21
I really like this, both the idea and execution. I've never thought about having an entrance piece, I like it.

Hope you don't mind me pinching the idea of making a dungeon entrance tile. Maybe race specific ones - so many ideas!!!

20-11-2014, 10:50
Looks great, and the selected colors neatly give the feeling of setting or rising sun over the entrance.

20-11-2014, 16:34
love the dungeon entrance idea. will be having o go at one of those myself. nice work

20-11-2014, 17:14
Thanks for all the kind comments fellas. The entrance idea is not mine at all, I pretty much stole it, but I can't for the life of me remember where... I get the feeling it was somewhere here on warseer. So pinch away Daemonslave, Ulysses, it'll be interesting to see other peoples take on it. :)
@ Nychthemeron- very poetic description, and there's me just thinking it was cork ;)

28-11-2014, 18:28
Here is my latest NPC which I think should fit in with Hasak, Gabrad and Painfury, although I can't see him appearing for a long time. The characters have no chance of beating him at the moment, he's far too tough.

So Thorgog is the power behind the 3 amigoes that caused Serefina and Crue all the trouble in their adventures.

One day, if they can survive long enough, they may get to meet him.

08-12-2014, 17:32
Faroth, Bill, Gwendgoth and Azzraella started a three part adventure this weekend and I have made a film of their exploits.
Here are a couple of stills from the game, near the start.

Will post link to you tube when I can remember how to do it! :cries:
How's this;

Old Posts

Have just been looking at my old posts from way back last year and realised half the pictures have gone, probably had their urls altered. Before I started the blog I used to store stuff on facebook, seems they have shafted me, probably totally unintentionally, but there you go. I will endevour to find the correct pictures and reinstate them. Sorry to anyone seeing them for the first time.

In the mean time here is a close up of Gwendgoth, which should work fine!

24-12-2014, 02:33
I don't know what it is about the painting and/or photography, but that picture looks amazing, almost like it's an oil painting on a canvas and not an actual miniature. Great job!

I've had good luck storing pics on google+ through picasa.

24-12-2014, 09:54
You are too kind benvolliothefirst, to be honest I think its out of focus, but I like your take on my painting skills very much ;)

Yep am in middle of moving stuff from FB to my blog and therefore google+, so it should be ok in end, just taking a while to do. :(

30-12-2014, 14:53
This is the latest cavern room I've been working on, I still have one or two to make, but nearly done.

I have loads of cards to make for all these new caverns I've made, not sure when I will get chance to make them.
More pics on blog as per usual.

A long time ago I decided that I wanted to produce my groups local tavern, The Windy Wharfe, as a 3D model. Well here are some pictures of the outside all finished bar a bit of varnish.
Will post some pictures of the inside at the weekend.

I have the inn sign to complete but should have that done at weekend.
Am looking forward to running a bar room brawl game. :)
The whole roof comes off to get access to the interior.
More photos to come.

21-01-2015, 19:44
As promised pictures of the inside of the Windy Wharf.

There are more pictures on the blog and my latest film too.

Today I completed my torture room furniture, so I thought I would post some pictures. Built the cage, rack, iron maiden and torture table out of foam car, card, cocktail sticks etc
Really had fun making these, should have made them earlier, but there you go.

As always, more on the blog below. :)

25-01-2015, 10:27
Nice torture instruments - I like it!

25-01-2015, 11:55
Today I completed my torture room furniture, so I thought I would post some pictures.

Only on wargaming and S&M forums is this an acceptable thread post! Love them by the way!

25-01-2015, 16:08
Yep, if you type "torture room" into Google you can get some interesting results!!!!

This has been great to catch up on, loving the differing dungeons and the Inn, well.. very jealous haha :) Great work; going to grab a coffee and read through again.

27-01-2015, 03:05
wow. that is amazing. im bookmarking this thread.

27-01-2015, 03:30
it was fun watching the quest reports on your youtube channel

29-01-2015, 19:22
Thanks very much danieljames, nice to hear someone likes the fims, they make me laugh. :)
Cheers, Shas'EL Tael and Daemonslave, glad you like the torture gear and the Windy Wharf,
it took ages to build and went through several incarnations. Some where there is a whole second floor that just didn't work.
Maybe one day ;)

Hello, think this is possibly the longest I have left between posts, life catching up with me.
I have been working on my Chaos Dwarf models that I got from Ebay some time ago. Here are a few.

Blunderbusses, made from bits and pieces, many broken stuff I get cheap and pencils.

Black Orcs, very old models.

Chaos Dwarf Warriors, old plastic purchase from Ebay.

20-02-2015, 19:54
Have been working on the Chaos Dwarf models for some time now and are getting to the end of the basic troops.
Here are my take on Hobgoblins, cos not going to buy silly priced stuff off Ebay. Made from Goblin torso's with Celt legs from Warlord models (love those miniatures)

Am putting together some sneaky Gits and a Hobgoblin Boss in the same manner as I type, will post when done.

21-02-2015, 03:31
As promised pictures of the inside of the Windy Wharf.

OMG That's fantastic detailing daxio, Well done.

21-02-2015, 09:25
Cheers Richard, have enjoyed making the Wharf, need to get it in a game now. ;)

21-02-2015, 23:01
Game? What this requires is a bar room brawl report!

22-02-2015, 14:13
Oh it has to be doesn't it? Its almost impossible to avoid really. I'm obliged, being as I'm part Welsh and part Irish, to orchestrate some sort of punch up for no good reason.
I can imagine Blackhead Bill rolling up at the Windy Wharf just because he's looking for a fight.
Promise you Shas'EL, it will happen! ;)

My god. I didn't realise there were so many amazing plogs on here. I should take time to have a really good look around. I've still got loads of yours left to look at, but just wanted to say amazing work.

23-02-2015, 17:36
Wow, some great builds recently! Nice work (Though I must admit I initially misread the name of the tavern as referring to a short, bearded fellow....)

23-02-2015, 21:29
Or a big guy with a wrinkly head off Star Trek that you shouldn't stand behind!
Cheers for comments Rusty, there are loads of great people keeping Quest alive, its great to see. :)

Shas'El Tael
27-02-2015, 21:42
Look forward to it Daxio, much blo- beer must be spilled!

09-03-2015, 19:41
The paint job and detail you have put into the wharf is really amazing. Love those Chaos dwarfs classic sculpts, always fetch too much money on ebay for me though!

This simply looks like darned good fun, 3D rooms, bad guys, big party members and smashing dungeon denizens. Look forward to starting up a Quest group in NZ soon.

12-03-2015, 19:25
Well Shas'El, I would love to come over and play. Can't imagine a more wonderful setting than NZ.
Thanks the_dwarf, appreciate the exclamation. :)

14-03-2015, 06:58
Very characterful and well thought out dungeon design daxiom the pics truly bring the dungeon to life

24-03-2015, 13:29
Cheers Richard am always looking for new ways to play Quest, keeps me on my toes. ;)

24-03-2015, 14:06
Don't think I have posted any of the models I made/painted in February, so here they are. Lots of Chaos Dwarf stuff.
I set myself the task of modelling and painting all the stuff I had spent 2 years collecting or making. All was finished within a month.
My blog has the complete story in bits and pieces as it developed

I still have a few character models to do and fancy making a Taurus...now where did I put that plastic cow I bought off Ebay?

This last model is a Hellgrinder, got idea from a site called Ruinous Powers which has a load of interesting models.
My question is how should I play this model in Quest? Any clever ideas?
So far I am playing around with the stats for the Taurus but with a Grind attack like a Steam Tank.

10-04-2015, 10:58
My challenge this month is to complete all the monsters I need for my Skaven deck. I started with a load of very old models and some odds and ends and have begun by making
Clanrats, Plague Monks and Gutterunners, others to follow later. :)

Very limited models, but fun to try to do. Assassins up next, then Stormvermin.

17-04-2015, 04:08
Great work Daxio. Love how the way you have changed the mono pose into 3 different Skaven warriors. You do seem to have a knack.

17-04-2015, 04:21
Great work Daxio. Love how the way you have changed the mono pose into 3 different Skaven warriors.

I agree they look really cool and actual models you can buy in a shop. well done

17-04-2015, 20:54
Well cheers fellas I really appreciate your comments, sometimes when I've altered a model, mainly cos I'm a cheap skate, I wonder if I've made a terrible mistake, and then to post them on here could be seen as an act of stupidity. It took me a long time to pluck up the courage to post anything at all. So your feed back is great to hear, ta :)

Shas'El Tael
22-04-2015, 07:55
Clever alterations in theme with the models themselves; top work man :)

29-04-2015, 08:30
This is what I have been getting up to in the last month, set myself a challenge to complete the Skaven for our Quest games, nearly there but not gonna complete in April.
Still have Rat Ogres to do and then characters.

I really should not take close ups, and these haven't been glooped yet.

Thanks for comments Shas'El, we played through the bar room brawl last night and will post some pictures as soon as get chance to look at them :D
As always, there is more on my blog.

03-05-2015, 13:57
As I promised Shas'El quite some time ago, a punch up in the Windy Wharf Inn, it all started after a disagreement over the singing talents of the Slaughter Sisters.

03-05-2015, 14:04
Part Two

Grisbee, the barkeep was not impressed, even when Bill went through the pockets of the unconscious and gave him 100 gp. :)

More on the Blog including a blow by blow account of the fight.

07-06-2015, 13:12
Hi, not posted for over a month, been doing lots of other stuff, but here are some shots of the caverns I have been working on.

14-06-2015, 08:05
Wow.. insane amount of scenery and bar fight was great. What is the scenario for the skaven scenery?

15-06-2015, 22:42
Cheers Shas'El, thought you'd like the bar room brawl :)
The Skaven link is that I've recently finished converting all the skaven bar a few characters and the cavern tiles I made to play quest in caverns
, will post the cards when I get the chance, so really just me messing about.

09-07-2015, 19:01
Here as promised are the cards I have made to play Quest in caverns and tunnels, also I started making just a few walkways as well to give the caverns some height.
I made a ladder card which is shuffled into the deck and can then be pulled out leading to a few walkways, a sub-deck of 1D3+1 cards.
Have not had the time to play on these yet but when we do I will post some game shots.

The cards are all handmade, although this time I did a basic design for the front of the card which I got photocopied, should have done it in colour really.
So still had to colour them by hand.

Shas'El Tael
19-07-2015, 05:32
Looks way too much fun to be legal, nice work on the cards! :)

24-07-2015, 19:01
Cheers Shas'EL really appreciate your comments as always :-)

25-07-2015, 14:34
I LOVE the playing field with all the ladders, reminds me of Goblintown from The Hobbit. And the cards are awesome. But I agree, I would have color photocopied them, nothing brings hobby inspiration to a grinding halt like boring repetitive tasks. Keep up the great work!

26-07-2015, 08:31
Cheers benvoliothefirst, yep it can take the fun out of the whole venture and its not like I don't own a PC, I'm just old I suppose :-)
