Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has every made there own games.

I have designed a couple one based on kayaking (my other hobby)

and was asked to make some templates for people to use after showing my own little horror game at the games club.

If anyone fancies having a go I have created some templates on http://graphicriver.net/item/collectable-card-game-template-pack/5528121?WT.ac=portfolio&WT.seg_1=portfolio&WT.z_author=quicky (http://graphicriver.net/item/collectable-card-game-template-pack/5528121?WT.ac=portfolio&WT.seg_1=portfolio&WT.z_author=quicky)

I anyone has a go at using them i would be interested in seeing what you come up with.

all the best

Cool link. I've seen online stores that sell card 'backs' for more traditional purposes, but other than the magic set editor i've never seen anything like this before. Can you link to any reviews or provide feedback as to how the software is to use?

edit: quick google search and it looks dodgy. Will investigate more later, but very very suspicious looking. :shifty:

Can I ask what is suspicious looking.... (As I am the designer)

The cards are photoshop files into which you can choose the design backgrounds you require etc. I am selling the first lot through graphicriver. Unfortunaley I have no control over where the files appear after that. Although I would prefer that is anyone every wants a quote for some work to vome to me directly.

I've been burned recently (so i may be paranoid), but the site these cards are being hosted from is very identical in style - the lack of reviews or information for the site are what concerns me here. If this is a legitimate site i apologize, but you should be aware that the hallmark (as i've learnt) of a con-site is that there's no outside reviews from sources i would consider well-known or reputable. A fair amount of reviews from google page 1 are internal reviews of itself (such as by parent company envato), this review sitehttp://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/graphicriver.net claims it is in the top 1000 US sites yet i can't find a substantial 'mainstream' acknowledgement of it.

Checking the parent company (envato) reveals no direct contact information here: http://abr.business.gov.au/SearchByAbn.aspx?abn=11119159741 here http://support.envato.com/ or here http://www.whitepages.com.au/ other than made in australia, registered 'somewhere' in victoria.

All of which brings me back to my original question: can anyone provide a credible, independant review of the site? Because it looks suspicious to me. As per your pm, i will happily retract my statement of my suspicion if this can be done.

Envato is a huge site for people to sell designs and artwork. You seem to be saying that every site that does not have a review seem suspicious to you.
Well that is fine, lots of people use it but each to there own.
Maybe this will help you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Envato then again as wikipedia is written by the public you might not trust that as well.
https://www.facebook.com/envato a few people seem to like the site on facebook 32,492 but as with all marketplaces you have to be careful.

Some people are genuine sellers others do seem to want to try there luck. Luckily I am a genuine seller. My cards can also be seen here. http://quickyart.deviantart.com/art/Collectable-car-game-examples-v1-399000225

at least it is not kickstarter where it does seem to be a bit of guesswork if a game is genuine or not.....

The reason I was selling these through envato is sending out a huge set of .psd files (300 dpi images plus backgrounds and icons) would take up most of my time so it is easier to sell on there. Yes they take a cut of the profit from sales but which online company does not these days.

Hope I have helped calm your fears.

Well, i can only say that i don't mean to malign you or your work, i just have trouble getting any external verification of graphicriver or envato and that is suspicious to me. For what it's worth, i was focusing on the sites in question and not your cards - they seem very well done, and i was tempted to make a purchase which is what lead me to investigate the sites first.

Maybe i'm behind the times (i trust wikipedia for certain things and not others, i don't trust facebook fullstop), but any time i can't locate any form of contact details for a company (especially one based in my own country) i get little alarm bells ringing in my ears. All the best to you and your endeavours.

I've worked on the graphic design and illustration of one of my friend's game, which I help with the playtesting and development of the rules for (adopting some of my suggestions on some play mechanics and shifting some numbers here or there).

It's not a CCG though, and more of a Euro/Economic game, albeit with a few luck elements (cards).
