View Full Version : Bases for Mordheim

The figures for Mordheim tradtionally came with square bases. It might be just me but that always bothered me a little. It seemed odd to have individual figures that never operate in formations on square bases. The only real reason I saw for them to be based that way was that it allowed you to use the same figures in Mordheim and WFB.

Since that's not an issue for me, I was wondering if other Mordheim players would object to figures mounted on 40K style round bases? I've recently picked up a few old Mordheim figures from eBay but since none of them came with bases, I though... why not?

Thanks for your opinions.

It would probably be wise to check with your gaming group as it can affect the amount of models that can get in to combat. Which could make I big impact in such a small scale game.

Unfortunatly, I don't currently have a gaming group that is active in Mordheim, so I was looking to see if there was a consensus amoung other players.

I think it would probably be acceptable. I'm personally considering it now that AoS is on round bases. Possibly you could pin or magnetise so you could use either?

I personaly think the game works better with round bases, and it looks better too.
Our gaming group really doesn't mind much one way or another, as long as the base is roughly the same size. As in orcs go on a 28 base, either square or round.

Round bases or square bases have zero issues imho, just mark the middle of the base so you can draw line of sight easy, other than that.. np with round bases..

I think round bases are completely fine for Mordheim, Indeed, I've seen several warbands based roundly throughout the years, and never has it caused any real trouble. Some could argue that models that are usually on a 20mm base will take up too much space on a 25mm round one, but Mordheim isn't really suitable for anyone that uptight.

gw used to sell metal round 25mm base toppers for mordhiem, sculpted like flagstones. so round bases must have been ok.

We play with all kinds of bases. Like most stuff we feel that it doesn't really matter in Mordheim. Bigger bases for large warriors are a must though.

I've seen plenty of round bases used in Mordheim. The only issue I'm aware of is how frustrating it is to have your models roll around, once placed sideways (for knocked down or stunned results). It's usually a minor problem- until it comes to tall buildings and the like!

I'd like to see what Specialist Games does with it first. I have some people wanting to start a Mordheim group near me and I've considered using some of te nice Malifaux bases instead of the square ones or round GW ones. However as I don't own any of the Malifaux round bases I'm not sure how far the rim of the base protrudes. The could very well be larger than a round 25mm citadel base and screw with the game mechanics. In that case I would just keep them on my square bases (as I will probably do a Reikland warband with models taken from my Empire army).

If I played Mordheim again (and if there's a community for it here I will) I'd be looking to base on round bases too. I much prefer the aesthetic.

Use metal washers. Instant magnetic powers! Makes storage easier. Looks better too!
