I hope that some still remember the list of 28 mm hard plastic kits that I started on Warseer a couple of years ago. That list seems to have gone missing somewhere when Warseer got reborn, so I thought it would be time to re-start it here. However, since the original list had become long and a bit unwieldy, I will split it into multiple posts this time.

Please notice that this list is intended to cover only those items that are fully plastic, so variant sets of existing plastics repacked with extra metal or resin bits are not listed. As an exception, some kits where plastic sprues are complemented by metal command figures are also covered, but only if those plastics are unique (ie. not available in other sets). Also kits that are not yet available on market are not listed. Vehicles and terrain are covered where they are specifically designed for 28 mm or 1/56 scale.

Individual sprues available directly only from manufacturer are not listed, except in the cases of horses and weapons & accessories. Many manufacturers provide some of their sprues available also individually from their website, in addition to kits available through retailers, but these are not generally covered here - interested persons should check the manufacturer websites if they are interested in purchasing individual sprues.

On the listing, figure kits will be organised by time period, and further grouped into related groups inside each time period. The names of the kits will be followed by an abbreviation of the manufacturer, placed in brackets. The manufacturer abbreviations are as follows:

- Agema Miniatures (AM)
- Conquest Games (CG)
- Eccentric Miniatures (EM)
- Fireforge Games (FG)
- Gripping Beast (GB)
- HäT Industrie (HI)
- Immortal Miniatures (IM)
- Perry Miniatures (PM)
- Plastic Soldier Company (PSC)
- Pro Gloria (PG)
- Renedra Limited (RE)
- Rubicon Models (RM)
- Tabletop Workshop (TW)
- Victrix Limited (VL)
- Wargames Factory (WF)
- Warlord Games (WG)

Update: since some of the kits have passed from manufacturer to another during the years, I have now introduced (XX -> YY) notation for manufacturer, indicating kits that were originally designed by company XX but are currently manufactured/distributed by company YY.

Update II: due to various issues, this list is limited to releases from year 2008 to year 2019. There is no intent to update the list with new releases from 2020 onwards.

I have tried to update the list with the kits that have been released since June 2016, but I may have missed some. If you spot any sets that have been released between July 2016 and June 2017 but are missing from the list, please mention them. However, for kits released before July 2016 the list should be complete.

As for upcoming releases, Warlord is apparently getting ready to release the Landsknechts that they obtained from Pro Gloria some years back, Victrix has been previewing ancient Gallic cavalry, Rubicon has been showing designs for WWII infantry and anti-tank guns, and Perrys showed some Napoleonic cavalry at the last Salute.

Glad to have this back, thanks for taking the time to write it all up again!

Victrix has recently released two more sets of Romans, Early Imperial Roman Legionaries 'advancing' as well as 'attacking' - with Auxilia coming up, as well as Celtic infantry, cavalry, the long-awaited Greek cavalry and plastic elephants. Will be a good few months before all of these are actually on sale though - the release schedule is rather open to change and delays.

Victrix Imperial Legionaries added to this list now. I knew those were under work, but had not realised they had actually been released by now.

Also I have been informed that Warlord now sells separately the WF apocalypse survivor weapon frames, in case anybody is looking for modern weapons in plastic. I have added these to the list of weapons and accessories - while also removing the Numidian weapon sprue that is no longer available on its own.

Also the horse section might need to be updated, I will see to that a bit later.

Horse section updated: WF ancient and Persian horses seem to be no longer available on their own, but their Samurai cavalry sprue is available separately through Warlord.

Also there were some minor terrain additions from Renedra missing from the list (railing with a gate and American style gravestones).

Took a while, but Warlord Games has finally released the formerly Pro Gloria Landsknechte!

Griefbringer

Landsknechts added to the list, as well as the Victrix set of Macedonian/Greek/Successor heavy cavalry that was released recently.

As for upcoming releases, Rubicon is planning to release another bunch of WWII vehicles this month.

As for the list itself, I have now introduced (XX -> YY) notation for manufacturers to indicate kits that were originally designed by company XX but are currently manufactured/distributed by company YY. This applies to various sets from Immortal miniatures, Wargames Factory, Tabletop Workshop and Pro Gloria.

Those Blood Red Skies airplanes are 1:200 scale, so not exactly designed to go with 28 mm models. Actual 1:56 aircraft would be a bit unwieldy for a tabletop air combat game, though. As for the 28 mm pilot ace models included in the advance bundles, those are presumably metal.

Right... I forgot about the not 28mm part...:shifty:

Back to the 1:56 scale products, the latest bunch of Rubicon releases (including jeeps and German motorcycles) has started hitting stores, so I have added them to the list.

Rubicon is supposedly also working on infantry sets, though I would not hold my breath for a release date.

Warlord has announced the release of their plastic Opel Blitz / Maultier vehicle set, so I have added it to the list.

Otherwise, I am not aware of any impending releases.

Warlord has made the German passenger frame, included in the Opel Blitz set, also available separately as a direct only item:

https://store.warlordgames.com/products/german-passengers-frame

I found this interesting enough to add it as an item to the WWII vehicle section, even though it is a direct only item. Plenty of potential for use with various plastic/resin vehicles as well as possibly seated on ground. On another note, Warlord is also about to release plastic King Tiger kit for WWII Germans.

On the medieval front, Renedra has released a breached wall set for their castle, Fireforge has shown previews of their plastic Byzantine spearmen frame, and Conquest has shown some pictures of their upcoming knight set (12th century, mounted).

Seems like plastic releases are a bit slow at the moment, though Warlord is about to release more plastic WWII Germans - this time SS grenadiers and a King Tiger. I guess their previous German infantry sets have been selling quite well, since this will be the fifth one out. I will add these to the list once they are actually available.

Apparently these have just become available, so I have added them to the list. Warlord is also going to release at least two more vehicles this year - Marder and a French tank.

On other news, Fireforge has their set of Byzantine spearmen in pre-order status, so we will probably see that released in near future.

It's incredible the number of plastic historical kits in 28mm that have come available over the past decade. We might be a little bit spoilt ...

If I am not mistaken, early next year we will be able to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Perry ACW infantry release - the first 28 mm hard plastic kit on the market.

As for upcoming releases, Warlord Games has now revealed that they are going to release plastic "Berlin Houses" for WWII. These will be initially coming out as part of their new Battle for Berlin boxed set, but I would presume that they will be eventually released also on their own.

Codsticker

Will the Battle For Berlin set include any new plastics or just previously released kits?

Griefbringer
27-10-2017, 08:51
As far as I can tell, the only new plastics in the Battle for Berlin set will be the buildings - the tanks and infantry have been previously released. That said, the set will also contain resin and metal items, some of which should be brand new (not that they are very relevant for this thread).

On the Napoleonics front, Perrys have shown more three-ups for their next set of French cavalry, first previewed at the last Salute. Apparently some of these were just completed, so I would not expect to see them released anytime soon due to the time needed for tooling.

Griefbringer
30-10-2017, 17:14
Regarding the Berlin House, there might be a chance that it will not be an original 1/56 scale product, but instead another release of Italeri 1/72 scale plastics under Warlord brand. I presume that we will find out more once the actual product is out.

Those farm animals look promising - I did actually buy some metal sheep and oxen earlier this year.

Back to the actual releases, I added the Fireforge Byzantine spearmen to the list, as they presumably have been released by now.

WWII enthusiasts mgiht like to hear that the latest releases by Rubicon have also started arriving in stores, and therefore I have added them to the list. There seems to be M4A2 Shermans (two variant kits), a British truck, expansion set for M3 halftrack and a German 37 mm anti-tank gun. It is interesting that Rubicon bundles their new products into quarterly releases, the only other miniatures company that I can recall doing that is HäT.

Those Fireforge Byzantines should be available at least from North Star and Caliver Books.

As for upcoming releases, Gripping Beast has shown pictures of their upcoming Dark Age cavalry set, which has been under work for a while. They are already on pre-order status, so should be coming out in near future. They seem to be relatively generic looking unarmoured cavalry, and with head swaps etc. there might be a fair amount of conversion potential.

The Dark Age cavalry may be a real seller - unlike their archer set, which I found the definition of disappointing.

That animal set slipped me until now. I find myself wanting at least 10 sprues to start...

Stone Bridge (WG)

The also have a resin stone bridge, but thats a different product...

Griefbringer
26-11-2017, 11:56
That Warlord stone bridge has been out for a while already - and like a number of their other plastic terrain items, it is actually a re-packaged Italeri 1:72 scale terrain item.

Axel
30-11-2017, 15:03
I was not aware of that. I have one right in front of me, and it looks quite usable for 1:56.

But if you decide not to add repacked 1:20 kits (and I know there are some in that Italeri:WG cooperation) then I wil not complain. Or you could add them with a warning (p72 - previously released as 1:72)

Griefbringer
02-12-2017, 09:41
Those re-packaged Italeri 1:72 terrain kits will stay out of the list for the time being, though maybe I should address them somehow - they seem to cause confusion every now and then.

On the more positive side, the Warlord kits for Marder III and Char B1 Bis are now available. Interestingly the Char B1 is the first plastic French WWII set from Warlord - I am wondering if we will see more plastic French sets in future (e.g. infantry or Somuas).

I doubt we will be seeing any further releases this year, so maybe it is time to consider what might be coming out next year.

1.) Conquest: the sprues for the new medieval knights set are apparently ready, so I would expect to see these pretty early next year once they get packacing and distribution sorted out.
2.) Perry: their next set of Napoleonic cavalry is undergoing tooling, so I would expect that to be released at the Salute 2018 latest.
3.) Gripping Beast: supposedly working on a set of armoured dark age cavalry to go with their recently released unarmoured kit. I would not held my breath for a release date.
4.) Rubicon: various WWII infantry and vehicle sets under work. Likely to continue with their practice of releasing a bundle of products quarterly.
5.) Warlord: at least farm animals and t38 panzer have been shown in public this autumn.
6.) Victrix: I have no idea what they have in the pipeline at the moment.
7.) Fireforge: not aware of any historical kits under work by them (though they have previewed a fantasy knights kit somewhere).
8.) Renedra: I have no idea what they have in the pipeline at the moment.

Gripping Beast said on a recent Facebook page that armoured Late Roman cavalry was being worked on already (unarmoured horses), to be released 'around Easter'. Goths to come later too.

As for Victrix, the latest version of their very long list of supposedly upcoming releases is:

"VXA030 Gallic Warriors & VXA031 Gallic Naked Fanatics Dec 2017
VXA032 Gallic Cavalry TBC
VXA033 Greek Light Cavalry TBC
VXA034 Early Imperial Roman Cavalry and mounted generals TBC

All the above are 100% digitally designed and are either at the tooling process or waiting to be tooled.

The following sets are either at the design stage or awaiting a design brief:

Republican Roman Cavalry
Celtic War Chariot plus armoured warriors & personality figures
EIR war machines and archers
2/3 sets of ancient cavalry, detail to follow
3/4 sets of Dark Age Warriors, details to be announced later
2 sets of 28mm WWII, details to follow
2 new Napoleonic sets, details to follow"

(The original list in the newsletter had the naked Gauls as Jan 2018, but a later email said both were to arrive at the same time, immediately after Christmas.)
The Dark Age sets intrigue me especially, but with Victrix' release schedule those are unlikely to see the light of day for years to come, so not getting too excited at the same time. The various sets with options for generals and personalities are also interesting.

EDIT: Just happened to get an email from GB (personal, no newsletter): heavy Late Roman cavalry next indeed, followed by Gothic heavy cavalry, and after that they have plans for Roman light cavalry (which would include mounted archers) as well apparently!

Griefbringer
17-12-2017, 14:33
If you are going to make a plastic elephant, then providing extra crew options is probably a good choice to increase the customer base. I presume that the excess crews can also be converted into extra infantry etc.

On other news, it seems that Warlord Games is going to re-release the Wargames Factory plastic samurai and ashigaru with new packacing.

The Warlord farmyard animals sprue looks pretty promising - altogether 20 animals if I am counting correctly. However, I am on a cold turkey at the moment as regards new purchases.

On another note, Warlord also put out a single model kit of the Panzer 38(T) to harass the poor animals.

As for the cattle-rustling Gauls from Victrix, I am still waiting for news.

23-02-2018, 13:40
As a follow-up to Panzer 38 (T), latest Warlord newsletter mentions (presumably plastic) Hetzer set that would be coming out at some point.

In the shorter term, it seems that they are about to re-released the WF sets of plastic Vikings and Saxons. This should be welcome news for anyone wanting to build early medieval skirmishers, since the bodies (at least on the unarmoured sprues) are in pretty dynamic poses - though I would personally recommend doing hand/arm/weapon swaps with other plastic sets out there.

As for other releases, I am not sure if we will be seeing much next month - I have a feeling that various manufacturers will be hoarding their new releases until Salute in April.

Let's be careful with jumping to conclusions - all that Warlord put out in their newsletter was the picture shown in that news item and text "Coming soon for Pike and Shotte", rest is interpretation from the writer.

Yes, it certainly looks like there are 16 multi-part handgunners in that picture, with six different sets of arms (though these seem to be essentially variations of two basic arm poses). Less obviously there is also a stand of four landsknecht halberdiers (with very big weapons), that look like the plastic pikemen with new arms, and further back there is another rather blurred seeming unit of Landsknechts.

There is hoping that these are another fully plastic set of Landsknechts to complement the previous pikeman set. However, this being Warlord, it is also possible that we might just be seeing a bunch of new metal arms released to go with the plastic bodies.

And combined with warlords 8th army and Afrika korp soon to be releases I'm super hyped.

Historicals certainly are the future of wargaming

Warlord has now added the Afrika Korps and British 8th Army boxes on pre-order, and I have taken the liberty to add them to the list already now. Usually I prefer waiting until the actual release date before adding things, but this time I will include them already to make sure I won't forget them.

That said, it seems that we may not have many plastic releases to look forward this autumn.

On another note, I have added a new item to the terrain section: Chevaux de Frise from Renedra. These are essentially battlefield obstacles consisting of a log and sharpened stakes.

This was apparently released already at Salute, but I missed the news back then.

They have already been for a while showing pre-views of their Viking set which is under work.

Victrix previewed Saxons of the 10th/11th century - to be used contemporenous with the Vikings, I assume - and ancient Germans. Thats a nice perspective...
Fire Forge has a couple of plastic sets promised with their new kickstarter - most usefull of these (from my perspective) is the "peasant rabble".

Warlords Farm animals are qutie usefull - I REALLY hope they will put that one on sale some day, so that I can get a couple dozen for the next "paint your own mini - day" of my local club.

My understanding is that these have been designed as fantasy sets, so their historical utility might be a bit limited - though it is hard to judge before seeing the final product.

Dedicated plastic sets for Korean war in 28 mm sounds like a curious choice - it is not a particularly popular conflict to game. Then again, if Warlord decides to do enough promotion the popularity might go up. Also, a lot of the equipment used in that conflict was of WWII heritage, something for which Warlord already has quite an arsenal.

As for the Fireforge sets, I checked the pics on their website for the Northern Kingdom range, and the three sets for which they had pictures of assembled and painted product (warriors, bowmen and cavalry) don't look to me like they could be a good basis for historical use. As for the folk rabble, there are only some renders, so too early to make an judgement - though they do have pictures of assembled and painted product for zombie peasants, and those look good (though definitely not historical).

On the more novel product side, Victrix has shown some pre-view pictures of Celtic chariots, so we can probably expect to see those getting released next year.

As far as I know, the only 28 mm plastic chariot set so far has been the WF version of the same topic, and that might be getting a bit hard to find unless Warlord decides to re-release it at some point.

Perry WWII US infantry being a Salute release is hardly a surprise, since they have for a number of years tried to release one of their plastic boxes at that show. That said, based on the previews so far these seem to be some of the best US WWII figures that I have seen. (Not planning to purchase any myself, though.)

However, bigger surprise will be what new sets the Perrys will be revealing at the Salute - I would expect them to show greens for at least two new sets, one of which is likely to be something Napoleonic.

I get a feeling that Victrix is better at promoting their previews than their actual releases... seems like two weeks ago they released another set of early Imperial Romans (mounted generals) and six different packs of plastic shields.

Those plastic shields look very useful, and will hopefully be available through retailer, though they are priced a bit higher than I would have expected (£15 for 60 shields).

News have been a bit on the slow side lately, but now Warlord has released a set of 95th riflemen (Napoleonic British) that I had not previously heard about.

These are described as being one piece and only available for a limited period of time. Considering that there only seems to be 3 poses, and that they are priced at £10 for 10 figures, I would not get too excited - Perrys provide twice the number of multi-part plastic riflemen for the same price.

Karawansaray has a sprue of four different tank commanders for WW2 (from Rubicon, giving a Russian, German, British and US tanker) available as a reward that I have not seen before. Possible, but I do not recognize any of them from their other products.

This sprue is afaik not listed on the Rubicon webpage.

I have added the Victrix set of Germanic warriors, as well their two recent sets of late Anglo-Saxons. They seem to be quite busy nowadays, compared to many other 28 mm plastic manufacturers.

As for the forum layout, you can adjust it somewhere in the personal settings to show good old 20 posts per page, though that of course only helps when you are logged in.

On a more personal note, I am starting to consider stopping the maintenance of this list around the end of the year or so. Griefbringer

Victrix certainly seems to have managed to keep up a decent plastic release rate recently.

And while the release rate for historical plastics may be slowing down, there seems to be a decent number of plastic fantasy (non-GW) releases these days, which while not directly relevant to this thread is still a welcome development. Northstar has their ranges for Frostgrave (skirmish) and Oathmark (mass battles), Fireforge has expanded from historicals to also fantasy side, and a new producer Atlantic Wargames seems to be trying to enter both scenes.

The Perrys are set to release 2 more boxes for Napoleonics and Griping Beast have a new set of ancient and medieval rules rules, Milites Mundi, on the horizon with an accompanying set of 10mm figures so I imagine it may be a while before we see a plastic release from them.

The recent Gripping Beast plastic releases were not particularly impressing, so not seeing further releases from them in near future is maybe not a major loss.

As a bit of a coincidence, my decision to stop maintaining this list is closely matched with the entry of Atlantic Wargames into the historical plastics market.
