View Full Version : SM Base size ?
Looking to get back into 40k a wee bit.. atleast I will start with killteam again.. :P
Just checking, if you should rebase all your "old" marines to 32mm bases or can I keep them on 25mm ? And the same for CSM ?

There is no rule forcing you to rebase your models. So you can keep as is.

There are no rules dictating what base sizes any particular models should be mounted on.
Whereas previous editions gave guidelines (assuming that models had the bases which they were supplied with / use whatever as long as your opponent agrees) 8th edition just doesn't bother.
Gameplay-wise, the difference between 25 and 32mm bases is negligible, and some models (https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Space-Wolves-Rune-Priest-in-Terminator-Armour) still come with 'old' size bases.
I've only ever encountered (and then only very rarely) people who call for models to be re-based online, so you should be fine.
I've been basing new Marines and Sisters of Silence on old 25mm bases because I think they look better.

So long as you're sensible. You should have no issue...at least with the majority of normal mature players...just not the online snobs
There should be no problems ^^) I personally am not going to re base my entire marines army just because GW wanted to get more money from us

A little unfair, since GW have never required re-basing*. Even in Age of Sigmar you can still use square bases.
*Maybe Guard heavy weapon teams, but they had to deal with that mess somehow...

In the end the rebasing of my IG Heavy Weapons let me to little dioramas that were cool to convert and build...so a blessing of sorts.
The gamers in my group all use original bases (except me...and as noted I only changed the ones I had to).
My two cents,

true, but then why would they come out with new size bases? To get more money from people who will re base their armies.

because the eventual replacement for 3rd-7th edition marines are too big to fit on a 25mm base. I think they just wanted synergy with Primaris when they dropped.
