View Full Version : tancrede's work: side projects

28-08-2006, 10:47
hi everybody,

i'm 28 y.o., from bordeaux, in france (yes, land of the wine and food:D ). i play whfb and 40k since 1991/1992 (i don't remember!).
for whfb, i play dwarves, gobbos and bretonnians, but my favorite game is 40k, where my armies are the imperial fists, the taus and the imperial guard (drop troups based on cadian).

i spend a lot of time at my desk to paint my minis and all my armies are wip.

this is my latest project: an army of the ecclesiarchy. so here are my first minis :

my first preacher (must do the base and some little things)

my confessor (wip):

the living saint (wip):

waiting for your c&c.

28-08-2006, 10:53
The saint is a lovely job. Really nice work on the armour.

28-08-2006, 11:04

lovely work there, what colour scheme are you going for? purple, cream and gold? I think a colour scheme like this would look really good for the sisters armour. Or is it going to be blue?

28-08-2006, 11:27
Your metal work is very well done. The way you painted the preacher's bell and sword have to be my favorite parts of the model.

Once you get a chance, mind posting a tutorial?

god octo
28-08-2006, 11:33
it looks very polished- have you used nmm on the saint? i like the colour scheme on the priests as well.

28-08-2006, 11:37
Very nice work, I like what youve done.

30-08-2006, 07:20
thanks for comments.

to hiredsword: i think i will keep the bone/purple/gold scheme for the adeptus ministorum and the shocktroopers. my inquisitor and his retinue will be more dark.

to no-use4a-name: it could be difficult, because i have some problems to explain what i've done in english. and i work in the evening, with a very low light wich make difficult to take useful pics.
but i can try.

to god octo: all this minis are painted using nmm. i must work on the gold on the saint, because i'm not happy with it.

and i post you one of my side project (i have so many side projects... :D).
this is the special edition of valten. i paint it for one of my friends (and without nmm this time).

yes, it's my avatar :D

Still learning
30-08-2006, 08:15
wow, that red is really good

30-08-2006, 08:59
very very nice ^_^

30-08-2006, 09:01
WOA! That preacher sure has a lot of fury in his eyes, punny servant of a false emperor! Look at the first photo how his right eye looks! Despite the fact that you're a foul servant, your paintjob is great. Bravo!

05-09-2006, 06:57
hi everybody,

i was busy for the last days, but not for my ecclesiarchy army.
here is the next mini for this army, an imperial missionary, very, very wip

and here are the first minis for the henchmens of my WH inquisitor (done 2 years ago):

i'm not very happy with the base, and i think i will do new ones

05-09-2006, 07:02
your my hero

05-09-2006, 07:42
The Acolyte looks superb. The detail on the tank and piping, not to mention the flames, is simply wonderful. I gotta try out blue fames at some point :D

The Judge
05-09-2006, 11:18
That Acolyte is a beast. Where did the tank on his back come from?
Love the flames...

11-09-2006, 07:44
thanks for the comments. the tank on the acolyte come from skaven "globadier" (i don't know the name in english).

today, i just want to show you my imperial fist chapelain.

It is a delight to see Ecclesiarchy as good looking as this Tancrede! They look great, I love you painting style, each of your minis have a very soft yet dark and brooding feel to them, brill.

It must be taking you a while to get through these, I bet? I've spent a few years converting a whole marine army and all I know now is that I'm getting sick of power armour! I hope painting this army doesnt get boring for you though.

By the way, it is Globadier in English as well, Im not sure how to say it either ;)

Duuude...the highlights of the chaplain are awesome!! Have you got closser pics? a possible tutorial?

11-09-2006, 17:04
Very nice stuff, I especailly like the weathering at the bottom of the preacher's robes.

11-09-2006, 18:16
C'est Increable!
Tres tres bon!

06-12-2006, 08:21

no works on my ecclesiarchy for the moment, but some pics of the current work going on at my workdesk:

valten, finished (sorry, bad pics taken in the gw store of my friends). i will try to post a better one before the end of the year:

empire knight. it's a resin mini from a french company named ilyad games. the inspiration for this range of minis is a comics named "les chroniques de la lune noire" (tales of the black moon). still wip, i must do the sword and some details (belt, arms,... for exemple):

the little suzi. very bad pic (must do another one). it's a mini from hasslefree miniatures, and this company makes very pleasing to paint minis. if someone could "de-yellowish" the pic, it will be far much better.:

and a last for the road: a young samouraď woman, from hasslefree miniatures.
i have just started to work on it, with a blue and white scheme (crane clan for "legend of the five rings" rpg). now, i'm thinking of her kimono and details on it. i will maybe copy one of my wife's kimono...

and if someone can explain me how i can change the name of the thread, i will be very pleased...

They must put something in the water in France or something. It seems that everyone in France can paint fantasitc.
I went to France this summer but I only drank a lot of vine so it must be the water - my skills haven't improved:cries: .

Keep showing us your fantastic work.

and if someone can explain me how i can change the name of the thread, i will be very pleased...Ask a moderator.;) What title would you like?

06-12-2006, 14:21
Beautiful work throughout, especially on those WIP ecclesiarchical lads. Suzi is especially nice, but 2 things strike me as a little odd with that model:

1. Her left ankle seems nastily twisted and painful! Can't tell why it would be bent up like that, even if she's supposed to be standing partially on that big rivet.
2. I can't tell what that big hand is doing, except maybe reaching to feel the gun-packing schoolgirl up? The more I look at it, the less I can understand why it's bursting out of such a small metal box ...

Otherwise, all great work, look forward to more.

06-12-2006, 18:10
BEAUTIFUL work Tancrede.

I'm liking the Crane woman. Is she supposed to be of the Kakita family, by any chance? She'd work for it if she was, with her pulling the wakizashi... I was a player of the Legend of the Five Rings card game for a long time, still have all of my cards. Mostly a Dragon and Scorpion player myself, but I always enjoyed playing the Crane.

06-12-2006, 19:43
I wonder why the french always seem to be a cut above the rest when it comes to painting. Lovely stuff mate well done.

06-12-2006, 19:47
One word: WoooooooooW!
You´v got some realy ace painting skills mate.

06-12-2006, 19:50
De-yellowed :)

When Black Roses Bloom
06-12-2006, 21:23
Long time not seen. Any new pics from those ecclesiarchy band of yours? There were very WIP. Please, show us more man!

07-12-2006, 08:16
thanks for the comments. but i must say that there is nothing in the french water. it's in the air... :D (or in the wine, but you must stay longer next time;) )

@when black roses bloom:
ecclesiarchy is in stand by for the moment, but i have bought some redemptionnist from a friend of mine. and i'm wainting for the new warhammer empire range (especially warrior-priests, but some details are very interesting).

thanks you for de-yellowing this pic

i will paint it like a doji, because she is supposed to be the wife of one of my rpg character.

the girl has heard something in her back, so she's turning left to see what it is.
the noise comes from the "water" tank in her back, where a zombie is coming out to catch her. don't suppose it's a small box, it's a large tank, full of "something"...

i think a better name for this thread should be, for exemple: "tancrede's work: side projects", or something like that...

07-12-2006, 08:28
i think a better name for this thread should be, for exemple: "tancrede's work: side projects", or something like that...
Thread title changed.;)

07-12-2006, 09:33
the best i could do, though im not very good at the whole image editing thing still :P

07-12-2006, 09:50
thanks to @t-tauri for the thread's name.

and thanks a lot to @proximity for the pic! when i look at the original, i ask me how it can be possible !!

07-12-2006, 14:45
empire knight. it's a resin mini from a french company named ilyad games. the inspiration for this range of minis is a comics named "les chroniques de la lune noire" (tales of the black moon). still wip, i must do the sword and some details (belt, arms,... for exemple):

Great rendition of an Imperial knight there!

Got any other models from Ilyad games? I stumbled on their site on some online shops' site, and fell in love with the miniatures. Few weeks later, a friend of mine introduced me to the Chronicles of the Black Moon, Danish translation, and I fell even more in love with it. Currently sitting on issues 1-11 plus "Ghorgor Bey" and the "Succubus" specials. Great read(s)

07-12-2006, 14:59
i will paint it like a doji, because she is supposed to be the wife of one of my rpg character.

Ahhh, the Doji could work as well. The Doji women are supposed to be rather devious, conniving broads :P Your character may want to watch his back while she has the wakizashi ;)

07-12-2006, 17:14
i have some imperial soldiers. i must buy some of their minis, especially tha archangel of justice and ghorghor. and of course, all the heroes ! ;)

no problems for my character, the "true love" is shinning in their lives (and cause me tons and tons of problems, of course:D )

07-12-2006, 18:13
And Goristroy or whatever the Orc General is named! That model is just too kickass!

07-12-2006, 20:16
All great stuff, but your gold is particularly impressive. the face on the first model is amazing

11-12-2006, 06:59
imperial guard is my main 40k army, but i have another one, imperial fists.
you've seen the chaplain (still wip but i must finish it on the coming days)

here is the first tactical squad (still wip)

i must finish the scout squad and the dread. i think i will have 750 pts until the end of the year...

11-12-2006, 08:23
Those look really nice. The yellow works really well and much better than some others I've seen.

19-12-2006, 07:56
my imperial fist army (lot of work to do)

my dread, still wip:

and for my ecclesiarchy: the confessor (still wip, but i've worked on it)

03-01-2007, 12:40
hello everybody !

new year, new project ! back from the grave, here is the start of my slayer army. i play this gentle guys during storm of chaos (but mainly with friend's minis) and enjoyed the trip.

here is the first batch of troops, still wip (lots of details to do), and awaiting their friends... sorry for the bad light, the pics were taken this morning, after the coffee ^^

hope you'll enjoy...

03-01-2007, 12:50
They look good mate, not as polished as some of your other work but still very nice.

Are they still WIP? The unit i mean, obviously most of the others still are :P

03-01-2007, 17:45
thank you, man. they are not as "polished", as you say, but it's my table top quality standard.
i even used drybrush (mainly beards) ! ;)

the goal is to paint a 2000 pts army before the end of february ! (and finish to paint some other minis at the same time...). that's why i spend less time on them as on my ecclesiarchy or the other side projects (which are mainly trials and painting exercises to work new technics : nmm, white undercoat, new colors for the skin,...)

i will post new pics of the dwarves (and other running projects) as soon as possible.

09-01-2007, 07:09
hi guys !

as promised, new pics of my slayers!
here are the test models for the brotherhood of grimnir.

and a pic of the whole army (need to add more troll slayers, the heroes, and the long drong silver's pirate slayers)

sorry for the poor quality of the pics, they were taken this morning, just between the coffee and the shower ! :D

09-01-2007, 07:47
They look great, as a finished army they'll be stunning.

I like the white instead of the traditional blue.

10-01-2007, 07:28
Sweet painting there. You are really making me want to get back into white undercoats.

30-01-2007, 07:30
i've finished painting beards and skins on my grimnir's brotherhood.

here is the teutogen guard i'm painting as commission work for a friend:

24-04-2007, 06:56
hi guys!
hi resurrect this topic, 'cause i'm working on a new side project. last week, it was the french games day, and a friend of mine bought me this mini :

imperial navy thunderbolt pilot :

c&c welcome. still lot of work to do on this (only the trousers and the face are done...)

24-04-2007, 08:30

I love that model, reminds me of the russian and german recruitment posters.

That face is great, well done and keep us in the loop while you finish it.

24-04-2007, 15:52
Wow, this log is really amazing. Some of the non GW minis are really great. The detail on the face of the imperial nazy pilot is incredible.

Just wondering, why do you use a white undercoat for most things? (what are the benefits to black kinda thing)

24-04-2007, 17:04
thanks for the comments, guys.

i had the same feeling the first time i saw this mini: propaganda !!
i will update with new pics as soon as possible.

in my opinion, white undercoat give you a more "shiny" mini. but for me it's just an occasion to work with different technics.

24-04-2007, 17:07
Erm, wow! Superb work on everything here Tancrede, especially Valten! :D

24-04-2007, 17:28
thanks for the comments, guys.
i had the same feeling the first time i saw this mini: propaganda !!
i will update with new pics as soon as possible.

Cool, glad i wasn't the only one :D

Look forward to it.

25-04-2007, 09:01
a few more work on the pilot :

27-04-2007, 07:56
i'm also working on a 750 pts dark angels army. so here is my 3rd company master, currently wip:

and i finished the imperial preacher for a little painting competition in a gw store:

i have a 4 days week-end, so i hope to finish my pilot during it...

27-04-2007, 13:58
That priest is the SEX!

Awesome weathering and the NMM is fantastic.

The chaptermaster is coming along well too, get cracking on that pilot though.

23-05-2007, 08:18
a few work, made on the last months:

eldar guardian, painted for a painting contest in the local gw store :

eldar autarque, painted for another painting contest in a friend's store (1st place in this contest, 3rd place in an online contest) :

despite holidays, more work on the pilot.
i need to finish the base (lights, oil can, dog,...), but it's almost finished.

c&c welcome, as always.

23-05-2007, 08:48
That priest is the SEX!
Sheep raises a valid point. I second my vote along side the livestock.

23-05-2007, 08:51
Wow! Superb work Tancrede! :D

Are you sure it's fair to enter your models into a GW store competition; doesn't leave much chance for anyone else :p (and if you didn't win I want a word with the judges ;))

23-05-2007, 10:27
Really fantastic work, Tancrede. I would love to say something more constructive but there's really nothing I can see wrong with any of these models.

I especially love the Imperial Pilot. :)

24-05-2007, 04:46
Yay progress, they all look awesome, i really like the subtle skull effect on the guardians helmet, and the Autarch is just sublime, though i can't help thinking the pose is a bit static.

Great work all round, can't wait to see that pilot finished.

24-05-2007, 06:40
Wow, all your work is truly amazing, but that Imperial Priest is the best one I've ever seen. Very convincing!

24-05-2007, 07:06
While not a big fan of Dwarfs I like the slayers. Mostly because you didn't do that awful bright orange color that GW seems to think looks good.

24-05-2007, 08:29
i love the wide variety of minis you showcase in this log. i was wondering where you got the ilyad mini from? i've been looking for a retailing for some time now to try to complete my vorag barbarian collection

24-05-2007, 09:00
thanks for the comments, guys.

i bought this mini (and a few others) in a local store, here in bordeaux. it was easy, because ilyad games is a french company. but now, i think you will have a big problem... mainly because ilyad has disapeared : no news anymore, no stock, no refitting of the retailers (even in france). so lots of minis have disapeared. it's a sad new for all, but i have heard that the sculptors are working for another company (asmodee), on the "helldorado" project.
if you like the sculptors, take a look at this new skirmish game...

and for your vorags, you have all my sympathy (i wanted to buy some, but the best models are out of stock).

24-05-2007, 09:46
Wow. I demand more slayers. Now.

Seriously good work mate.

Now. :p

24-05-2007, 11:01
slayers are in stand-by for the moment. but i need to rebase all my old dwarf army, and complete it with some of the new minis.
i will post pics soon.

24-05-2007, 16:33
Very very nice stuff, sucks that that one company disappeared though. My favorite part of this log was that Midevil(sp) knight.

24-05-2007, 19:18
Thats a shame about the slayers. You have inspired me to do a slayer army. Are you going to be using the SoC rules?

Whats your "recipe" for slayer skin. Where possible please list GW paints. Thanks.

Keep up the good work.

24-05-2007, 21:40
the slayer army is not abandonned, but i'm trying to finish an army for the nemesis crown campaign, and i'm lacking too much slayers to do that (especially the long drong pirates).
and yes, i use the storm of chaos army list !

here is the recipe for the skin :
base : tanned flesh
1st : mix of 50/50 tanned flesh/dwarf flesh
2nd: pure dwarf flesh
3rd : mix of 50/50 dwarf flesh/matt flesh (prince august, a little bit darker than the gw elf flesh)
4rth : pure matt flesh

i think you can achieve matt flesh by using a mix of dwarf and elf flesh.

04-06-2007, 07:33
hi guys ! i'm back again, with some works !!

first, a mini of cleopatra, part of a diorama with ceasar and a servitor (and many details...). it's still wip (and i still have tons of work to do on it), and it's my first 54mm mini :

the second mini is a limited edition mini given with the rulebook of a new french skirmish game named helldorado (conquest of hell in the middle of the 17th century). it's a mercenary, knowned as "the traveller":

04-06-2007, 07:41
Wow, cleopatra is uglier then they say in history :p But that is a fantastic paintjob, on both of them.

The skin tones are spot on well done. And i love Cleos dress.

04-06-2007, 09:14
Fantastic painting Tancrede, as ever ;)

The boyz
04-06-2007, 14:47
Wow Tancrede. The paint job on Cleopatra looks awesome. The skin tone and gold areas look superb. I like her green dress as well. Looking forward to seeing some more updates.

Warwolt the skaven
04-06-2007, 15:06
You make cleoa look HOT :O

04-06-2007, 16:03
Cleo's dress looks almost sheer. Great effect.

And, her skin is also well painted.

Any info on that new skirmish game? A link to a website maybe?

04-06-2007, 17:15
thanks for the comments, guys, and surely expect some updates.

if you want, take a look at the french site => http://www.helldorado.fr/index.php

sorry for those who don't speak english. among the team, you will find some of the best french sculptors and painters. mens such as thomas david, jeremie bonamant or jacques-alexandre gillois (take a look at the french golden demon palmares...).
especially, you will find many interesting works in the following sections of the site : "illustrations" and "figurines".
enjoy !!

for me, choice is made : i will play this game, but for the moment, i don't know what to play... because nearly all the minis are awesome !

04-06-2007, 17:20
Thanks for the quick response and the link. You're right about those sculpts.....simply fantastic.

04-06-2007, 17:22
i hope you can buy them by internet...
try some stores like "starplayer" in paris. i think they should have an online store...
but for the rules, sorry. maybe later ! :D

04-06-2007, 17:50
Wow, cleopatra is uglier then they say in history :p

Maybe they liked 'em like that back in the day. ;) :p

Very nice model though; great proportions.

04-06-2007, 18:13

I'm very happy to see you working on some of the HellD models, Tancrede, definitely looking forward to seeing them with your fantastic paint skills applied. Have more planned, I hope?

Cleo looks great too, the shear dress is fantastic.

- Salvage

02-07-2007, 07:13
sorry for the time i took for the answer, but yes ! i have updates !!
no work on the traveller, but i have started my free company :

from left to right : sara zingaresce (rom spell launcher), anna pavlova (russian cannibal cooker) and a lemur (small deamon used as spell carrier)

and a few work done on my imperial fist army for 40k:

02-07-2007, 08:44
Fantastic as ever!

I really like that Daemon thing, very evil looking.

02-07-2007, 18:13
the deamon things of the game are very cool... i will paint the other one as soon as possible. almost all the helldorado minis are very cool, and some of the best french sculptors have worked on the range.

the game is nice too.
very dark background, cool minis, good rules (simple, but with many subtilities), and fast played games (1/2 to 1 hour) : i think this game will be a big success in france. maybe, it will be released in english in the future...

18-07-2007, 17:51
Definatly subscirbing.

04-08-2007, 17:17
Realy good job, wish I colud paint like that. And the Imperial pilot realy look awsome.

The boyz
04-08-2007, 19:05
Great work Tancrede, those Imperial Fists look excellent. The yellow looks very nice and smooth. I like that little deamon model, that looks well good.

04-08-2007, 20:30
thanks for the comments, guys, and surely expect some updates.

Many thanks for that Tancrede I have fallen in love with some of these minis and need to get a few to paint. So my question is where can I buy them???

Great painting as always by the way!

hi guys ! new stuff here :

imperial fists assault squad (i will do all the bases at the end)

and some minis of my dwarf army :

16-08-2007, 17:30
wow beautiful work as ever Tancrede :)

am i right in thinking the Assault squad sergeant is one of the honour guardsmen?

lovely painting all round, the dwarfs are exeptional, with the scheme matching the basing so well. good work

Tre's bon... (i learned a french word just for you...)

16-08-2007, 18:10
As beautiful as ever Tancrede; great work :D

16-08-2007, 18:31
i love the witch hunter retinue guy with the skaven backpack - great work, and the eldar are sweet too

17-08-2007, 06:44
thanks guys !

@ sc :
the sergent doesn't come from honour guard, but it's a mix of different parts found in my bitz box :
- body : blood angel death company (just as the marine on his left, beside the flamer)
- lightnings claws : space marines veteran box
- backpack : comes from a box (tactical, i think).

for the dwarves, it's my first army ever for warhammer battle, just before my old bretonnians (sold years ago).
actually, i'm working on this old army to reactualize it, mainly by rebasing them, and by adding some minis or details coming from the new range (shields, standart bearer, characters,...)

Tre's bon... (i learned a french word just for you...)
thank you very much, man ! ;)

17-08-2007, 07:02
Any chance you have updates of your Hell Dorado stuff? BTW those Imperial Fists look great Tancrede you really have got fantastic skills!

31-08-2007, 19:08
some work on my imperial fists, but still wip :

and some of my dwarves :

31-08-2007, 19:09
and as asked, new work on my helldorado minis :

31-08-2007, 19:23
Very impressive work Tancrede :)
Although the dwarf lord on oathstone somehow doesn;t seem to be up to your usual standards to me; the painting just doesn;t make me think 'wow' as I usually do. It just somehow seems a little scruffy.

31-08-2007, 19:28
The Fists look great and the Hell D minis are wonderful as ever, keep up the good work.

31-08-2007, 21:17
How on earth did you do that alycote (dont try and bother me with spelling :D) near the front of the log? seriously, how?

01-09-2007, 07:32
thanks for comments.

the dwarf lord is a little bit under my usual level of painting, but this mini is difficult to paint in 2 hours !:D
as said, it's for the gaming table, not for the showroom, and it's largely enough to put it on the table this afternoon (warhammer siege game, nearly 8000 pts of dwarves and elves vs an alliance of 16000 pts of dark elves, chaos and undeads...)

for the acolyte, it's simply the standard acolyte with a skaven globadier backpack. you add a bit of guitar cords and you paint it.
you remember me i must finish it ! :D

01-09-2007, 08:01
Your painting is simply wonderful.

I love the work here and on your Bretonnians Log.

If you could do a step by step with photos or even just talk us through how you paint your faces ... like the amazing work on the preacher it would be greatly appreciated.

01-09-2007, 15:25
Nice miniatures Tancrede!
Spot on painting and you've chosen the best miniatures!

Just one question, can you give me a comparison shot of a hell dorado miniature with a GW miniature?

dave is the best
08-09-2007, 16:00
how did you paint the yellow on your IF?

08-09-2007, 21:15
@zodiac :
i will take pics tomorrow and post in the coming days.

@dave :
for the recipe, it's really simple :
- white undercoat
- 2 layers of watered golden yellow
- 1 layer of orange in the recess
- brown ink to make the lining between armor plates
- first highlight in sunburst yellow
- second highlight with a 50/50 mix if sunburst yellow and skull white
- final highlight with pure white on the extreme and most exposed edge

@harry :
i will try to make a tutorial for the faces, but i don't know when...

10-09-2007, 17:40
here are a few test minis, just for fun :

taus (just main colors, with no markings for the moment and i still have lots of details to paint)

crimson fist :

10-09-2007, 17:40
and as demanded before by zodiac, here is a pic showing an helldorado mini and a gw cadian, for size comparizon :

11-09-2007, 07:33
Oh Cool!

And btw, I asked nicely right? :D
That guardsman draws the most of my attention though, it is stunningly beautiful!

11-09-2007, 11:23
if you want to see more of my guard minis, follow the link in my signature to my 13th aquilonian thread, there will be lot of stuff with tons of tanks and infantry. :D

11-09-2007, 11:26
As usual Tancrede beautiful work, those Tau are magnificent already!

I would like to see more of your Hell Dorado minis if possible. Do you have any of the Saracens range?

11-09-2007, 18:37
Do you have any of the Saracens range?

unfortunately not. i have too many projects runing on at the same time, and i've made a choice (i didn't want to spend too much money in a new range of minis). a choose occidentals, mainly because one of my best friend decided to paint and play the saracens. but i will buy some of the mercenary (but only the minis i really like)
but maybe later, just for fun...

but you can expect some update soon, there will be new releases for all ranges all 2 month. next minis to come ?
2 doppelsoldners (heavy infantry with 2 handed weapons) and "don quichotte de la mancha" with "rossinante" (a dreadful deamonic mount), from the mercenary range.

11-09-2007, 19:23
I'm thinking you're probably a bit sick of giving out tutorials for your horrendously well painted minis, but how did you paint the bone on the eldar minis. It looks great and goes fantastically with the turquoise and the purple.

11-09-2007, 21:02
no problem. the recipe for the bone is the same as for my dark angels minis or my guardsmen :

base : black undercoat
then, you go through multiple mix to highlight :
graveyard earth => graveyard + bleached bone => bleached bone => bleached + white => pure white on the edge.
then, you use a little layer of very watered brown ink.

if i can, i will post pics of this method to make a little tutorial (i still have eldar minis to paint, so i can use them).

12-09-2007, 21:02
Muchly obliged :)

dave is the best
14-09-2007, 19:10
Thanks for the guide to painting yellow but could you post a picture tut on it as i'm struggling use it.

16-09-2007, 21:24
i will try to do this, as i still have some imperial fists minis to paint, but i don't know when !! :D

17-09-2007, 19:07
for the moment, it's just a "one-shot mini", but i think i will make a little blood angel force.
so i present you "brother hades, bringer of the 2nd company banner, blood angel legion"

as always, c&c welcome.

17-09-2007, 19:14
Oh, wow
That freehand, incredible :D

17-09-2007, 19:31
The freehand on that banner is great - you never cease to impress me Tancrede!

17-09-2007, 19:38

thats just amazing...my speech function is faili...

18-09-2007, 05:24
My only concern is what a assult marine does with a hand hold banner :p

18-09-2007, 07:04
Excelleny Blood Angel Tancrede, your work continues to be an inspiration. Wonderfull freehand on the banner.

18-09-2007, 07:28
My only concern is what a assult marine does with a hand hold banner
when you can open a tank with your hands, i think a banner is no kind of problem ! :D
(and it's pretty cool !)

18-09-2007, 08:14
all i can say dude is, thats some good paint 'n'.

Death Korp
18-09-2007, 19:02
He could do something like Neo does in the matrix reloaded (i think?) with the pole with the Agent Smiths :D!

Speaking of minis.....i hate you. Really. You make me want to quit painting, as my work is that of a 6yr olds' compared to your masterpieces!

Damn you God, Tancrede's my new one!

18-09-2007, 20:04
thank you, guys ! :D
next minis are ready : sanguin priest and company champion.
greenstuff and black undercoat are done, and now the minis are waiting for my pencils.

i hope i will have little time in the coming days but it will be difficult as i paint for the local gw store...
but expect more blood angel stuff soon.

19-09-2007, 04:43
when you can open a tank with your hands, i think a banner is no kind of problem ! :D
(and it's pretty cool !)

I agree that it's very cool! And you might have a point, though I do not know the avarage speed of an assultmarine and the avarage density of air on the planets they fight on... If they're VERY fast and the atmosphere is VERY dense, it could still be a problem :p

I need to get out more :/

09-11-2007, 12:03
hi guys !
here are some new work, direct from the workdesk !!

grey knight terminator with nemesis hammer and psycanon (still wip)

blood angel company champion (wip, but i still only have a few details and the base to do)

imperial missionary (still wip too) :

confessor (hat done) :

09-11-2007, 12:06
samurai girl, finished

vampire, for my local gw store (rapid painting)

Eater of Small Things
09-11-2007, 16:40
vampire, for my local gw store (rapid painting)

Your rapid painting puts my regular painting to shame. Keep up the side projects. They look great!

Kasrkin 666
09-11-2007, 22:44
ho. ly. CRAP! SEXY! May I know how you achieve such a beautiful red?:D

10-11-2007, 04:11
Man that is some damn good painting work!

the model in your newest update are pure 10/10 awesome:eek: i can't see how any human could get to this state, really love the skin and gold and red too. the fav for me is the WIP confessor and the vamp for your GW.

sweet work keep it all up:evilgrin:

10-11-2007, 07:11
Your rapid painting puts my regular painting to shame. Keep up the side projects. They look great!
Your not the only one who thinks that.

I do really like the painting of your faces, really really lifetrue.

10-11-2007, 17:05
If I do the very, very best I can I MIGHT get up to the class of that rapid painting of yours :p

12-11-2007, 09:46
thanks, guys !

when i say "rapid painting", i mean 3/4 hours for one model (very fast for me, cause i'm spending too much time detailing my minis), but all my friends say that i paint really fast for a good result.

now, i still have to take and post some pics of the high elves minis and the ultramarine tanks painted for my local gw store...

@Kasrkin 666:
for the red, it's very simple : base inscorched brown, then you highlight it by adding more and more blood red to the mix. the secret is the large number of thin layers, and to let each one dry before to paint the next one. to finish it, you can use a thin layer of diluted catachan green in the shadows.
it's a bit long, but i like the result (and the red is my favorite color, and the one i really master).

12-11-2007, 12:49
Nice painting all around!

Kasrkin 666
12-11-2007, 14:56
Thanks for the recipe!:D

17-11-2007, 17:23
Love the confessor model and you've done it justice and then some. How did you go about doing the gold on the blood dragon model? I've been having trouble finding a nice gold that I can use on my models but yours looks great.

18-12-2007, 07:15
Just to show you i'm working on different things, here is the beginning of my blood angel sanguinary priest.

project's still on the way : i actually have an honour guard of 5 marines, and a squad of 5 tactical marines with plasmagun, all built and undercoated...

18-12-2007, 09:17
Stunning work Tancrede; that Blood Dragon is excellent :)

floyd pinkerton
18-12-2007, 10:50
all i can say is- wow!

these are absolutely delightful!

20-12-2007, 21:41
the little suzi. very bad pic (must do another one). it's a mini from hasslefree miniatures, and this company makes very pleasing to paint minis. if someone could "de-yellowish" the pic, it will be far much better.:

Do you know if this was sculpted based on a character from an anime film?

21-12-2007, 01:00
Everything looks nice. Any chance of more pictures of the blood angels your working on?

21-12-2007, 05:10
Wow! Fantastic stuff, I will keep checking this thread.

21-12-2007, 05:25
@illuminator :
yes, for sure ! as soon as i continue painting them :D (project stopped for the moment, due to ork painting done for my gw store, my bret project for the gd2008, and for holidays spent in my family).
expect new stuff for the beginning of january...

@potatolegs :
don't know that, but she also may comes from kitano's movie : battle royale...
i love this mini : cool sculpt and nice pose, even if it's real 28mm (so really thin). good change from gw minis !

the vicar
27-12-2007, 09:14
Really amazing. Keep up the good work.

27-12-2007, 20:37
You've inspired me Tancrede, and anyone who knows of my sloth will tell you thats a damn hard thing to do. Because of you Tancred i WILL finish my Blood Angel, Imperial Guard, and Eldar armies.
Oh and in case you hadnt gathered i think your painting is pure brilliance ... damn french...

29-12-2007, 16:55
Super work Tancrede and a true inspiration too all of us here.Keep up the great work and im sure we will see more fabulous works from you soon!

16-01-2008, 08:12
Just a small update, with the first kislev light cav painted for a friend of mine. It's still wip, and I have 12 of the guys to paint....
For the moment, nearly 2 hours of work on this mini.

As always, c&c are welcome...

20-01-2008, 16:59
I still say, at two hours I'd probably manage to get his robe, the belt and perhaps something more at that quality! You'reskilled!

The horse is going to be red?

20-01-2008, 17:18
Half white, half red... It's just some kind of war painting for chief's or heroe's horses, as said in some of the black library novels about Kislev.
The horses of the rest of the unit will be painted as usual (brown, grey, black,...)
I will use the same colors for the horses of the winged lancers regiments, and for the second light cav regiment. For the boyard (based on the old Valmir von Raukov mini), I think I will keep the same red and white colors, but with a more complicated scheme.

Expect an update soon (as soon as I can take pics of the minis :D ) for this regiment.

07-04-2008, 07:15
Hi, everybody !!
After a looooong time due to lack of connexion, I'm back with some new stuff...

First, here are my Helldorado minis (still wip, of course...) :
http://images.imagehotel.net/wktjolon8v.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=wktjolon8v.jpg)

next is a 54mm mini, from Andrea Miniature (Christmas gift from my wife !!) :

07-04-2008, 18:50
good good ^^

Kasrkin 666
08-04-2008, 01:00
Amazing as usual!

17-04-2008, 06:58
Little update on this thread.
I've finished my DA commission work and can now work on my minis for the french GD 08...

40k single mini:
"Back to home", imperial navy pilot, forgeworld, 28 mm.
http://images.imagehotel.net/245ld88opa.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=245ld88opa.jpg)http://images.imagehotel.net/talt8oxru3.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=talt8oxru3.jpg)

LOTR single mini
"Arwen", GW, 28mm (still wip but I must finish it before sunday).
http://images.imagehotel.net/5hv3wc7oar.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=5hv3wc7oar.jpg)

C&C welcome, as always.

And wish me good luck for sunday !! :D

The Inquisitor
17-04-2008, 14:16

and if someone can explain me how i can change the name of the thread, i will be very pleased...

PM one of the mods. That's what I did. Nice work. Do you work a field using your artistic skills?

17-04-2008, 15:42
Oh, I like those. Nice title for the pilot. Good luck!

17-04-2008, 19:02
That's some of the best painted minis I've ever seen.. I like the way you do details as bristly beard and stuff.. Absolutley perfect! :D

17-04-2008, 22:19
Both very well painted. Not sure if it's the pictures but the pilot's eyes seem to have something strange about them. Maybe the whites are too big? Other than that these figurines are the sort of stuff that I usually only see in dreams :D

23-04-2008, 06:34
I'm ack from the French GD, with tons of beautiful minis in mind.
Here are some new works. Sorry for the crappy pics...

http://images.imagehotel.net/d8h49bgahn.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=d8h49bgahn.jpg)

http://images.imagehotel.net/wdmhuab746.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=wdmhuab746.jpg)

New mini from a french company (ArteFactory). Very bad pic, 'cause it's smoother in reality...
http://images.imagehotel.net/itwv3x6921.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=itwv3x6921.jpg)

C&C welcome, as always...

23-04-2008, 10:08
The face on the first mini is nothing short of amazing. It looks like a real face. Or at least a full-sized portrait, not something you could balance on top of a cork...

The hair is well done in absolute terms but the thick highlights let the face down a bit. This is especially true of the eyebrows; they look quite featureless compared to the wonderful detail on the face. If the hair was on a normal mini it would look great but you've set too high a standard with the face.

Great metallics as well.

25-04-2008, 07:55
This week, I also started to paint the starter set of a new french skirmish game, Alkemy...
I've chosen the Khaliman Califate, because I like those feline minis ! :D

Here is the first jaraya (warrior) of my faction, still WIP :

http://images.imagehotel.net/j5qedzsaco.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=j5qedzsaco.jpg)http://images.imagehotel.net/gx5p2cnqv2.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=gx5p2cnqv2.jpg)

Sorry for the bad pics, I'll take better ones this week-end...

26-04-2008, 03:48
Nice, should fit well with some of the Age of Aegyptus (Crocodile Games) minis.

28-04-2008, 06:42
Little update for my Alkemy warband with 2 more minis :

2nd Jaraya :
http://images.imagehotel.net/giw7q056f2.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=giw7q056f2.jpg)

Ghulam (I still have his weapon to do, certainly in bronze...) :
http://images.imagehotel.net/hmxtxjjebt.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=hmxtxjjebt.jpg)

Sorry for the bad pics...
C&C welcomes, as always.

29-04-2008, 00:42
Wow they all look amazing!

02-05-2008, 06:59
Some pics of a new commission work for my friend : Inquisitor Lok..
tons of details (I love resin) but still WIP for the moment.

http://images.imagehotel.net/k8ardxgelp.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=k8ardxgelp.jpg)

02-05-2008, 07:02
Amazing mate, your painting just keeps going from strength to strength.

Kasrkin 666
03-05-2008, 20:26
Is that cloth on Lok grey-blue?

04-05-2008, 06:21
No, it's grey.
The base was done in chaos black, then highlights by adding bleached bone (but you can add rotting flesh) to chaos black, then final highlights with skull white in the mix.

02-06-2008, 07:19
Here is Lok, nearly done (basing and few details left...) :

02-06-2008, 22:04
Very nice, especially your inquisitor. Maybe a bit of black or dark paint for the inside of the cannon barrel?

02-06-2008, 22:11
Very nice work dude..especially like Lok.

03-06-2008, 13:49
What a beautiful collection of models. You have some fantastic skill, I'm looking forward to seeing the GD08 model finished.

Chaos Mortal
03-06-2008, 14:32
stunning simply stunning, i dont think theres much else to say...

03-06-2008, 18:59
I am trying to figure out how you create the transparent garment affect. Do you paint the body parts showing through in the normal fleshtone and then lightly glaze over them with the lightest highlight of the fabric?

05-06-2008, 08:09
For the transparence effect, I use a simple method :
- first I paint the clothes, shadows and highlights included,
- then I use thin layers of skin color on the parts where the body touch the clothes.
- then, use a few thin layers of the clothes colors to slightly taint the skin.

11-06-2008, 16:23
could we get some comparison shots between the alkemy models..and say something gw? im curious how big they are

23-06-2008, 07:14
Sorry, man, i've forgotten to do the comparison pics...

Here are some update of what I hav on my workdesk :

Helldorado minis :
Baptiste Valombre and his valet :

A few minions :

Kasrkin 666
23-06-2008, 10:33
Everything looks fantastic as always! Lovin the NMM work you do.

01-07-2008, 07:48
Some updates on commission work.

After some discussion with my customer, we're going to lava base for the eldar army.
http://images.imagehotel.net/x58n44h2ge.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=x58n44h2ge.jpg)

And for another customer, here is the terminator chaplain, still very wip (but gold is done...):
http://images.imagehotel.net/yk1ags1nrm.jpg (http://www.imagehotel.net/?from=yk1ags1nrm.jpg)

Kasrkin 666
01-07-2008, 09:47
Nice, nice! The highlight on the Chaplains TH arm is a bit much I'd say:p

01-07-2008, 10:18
Love the eldar- especially the farseers blades - great work- I'll be interested to see how the lava bases translate across other models.

01-07-2008, 14:41
Been admiring your work so thought I'd leave a comment at last. Those blades are the dog's biscuits, but I'm not sure on the helmet. Looks a lil dusty. How about some light sourcing on the base around the stone? That would look pretty cool.

Nice work Tancrede.

01-07-2008, 15:00
Hello again, good to see some of your 40k work.

I really like the Chaplain so far. Is the thunder hammer converted? The idea of using the fist for the hammer is tumbs-up worthy.;)

The Farseer looks cool too but somehow I think he's not up to the amazing level your other work is painted to (like the Bretonnians) but I guess that's because it's commission work in which time is also an important factor. Also, if the customers had to pay for the work you usually invest in your own Brets, they probably couldn't afford your services.;)

I like the colour scheme much but somehow I feel that the purple blades feel a bit weird colourwise. I don't pretend to have any idea of colour theory but somehow I think that green or light blue blades would have fitted better. If you have those strong, basic colours like red and blue for your base colours, soft purple, being a "mixed colour" looks a little out of place in my opinion.

Anyway, very good work as always. Looking forward to seeing your next miniatures! ;)

edit: Oh, there's a thing i forgot to ask: Is that slate you used for the rock on the Farseer's base? If so

01-07-2008, 17:06
Everything looks great. The armor on the heldorado mini with the double handed sword is really really nice. I think the farseer's eyes should be a different color. right now you can hardly see he has eyes because they blend in with his face plate.

01-07-2008, 19:06
@Nightsword :

How about some light sourcing on the base around the stone? That would look pretty cool.
I think I will not do that. The base fits my customer just as it is, and I have nearly 30 models to paint and base like this...

@sigur :

Is the thunder hammer converted? The idea of using the fist for the hammer is tumbs-up worthy
The thunderhammer is Captain Lysander's one. I like the idea that the chaplain will use it to make the Imperial Credo penetrate the mind of the Emperor's Foes !! :D

I guess that's because it's commission
It's exactly the reason, man. With the customer, we decided the painting level before I accept, and the model receive his agreement.

I like the colour scheme much but somehow I feel that the purple blades feel a bit weird colourwise.
Yes, but I wanted a special color for the force weapon, and violet is a color I nearly never use.

Is that slate you used for the rock on the Farseer's base?
No, the farseer has the rock moulded under his feets...

@Mr.chair :

I think the farseer's eyes should be a different color
Yes I agree. The reason is that I painted the faceplate in bone color, but my customer asked me to paint i red. And for the moment, I don't repaint the eyes. I must decide the color. Maybe blue...

And thanks for comments, guys !!

love the eldar scheme
who came up with it?

01-07-2008, 21:40
I think I will not do that. The base fits my customer just as it is, and I have nearly 30 models to paint and base like this...

Lazy lazy Tancrede... :D

I'm joking. You rock.

Utterly stunning work, in every respect.

Lovely stuff mate, been a while since i've checked in here, and you never disappoint. Beautiful work.

Magnificent, as always.

The work on those shields is remarkable. A 'crispness' I can only dream of.

19-01-2009, 02:03
I love your eldar, they are wonderfully clean and sharp.

Hey there!

Good to see some updates in here. The Warlocks look great. As does the rest of the Eldar. Congrats on your skills when it comes to painting large quantities of white cloth; I wouldn't have thought that cloth shaded with blue would go together with bone that well. Love the "warpaint" on the facemasks of the Warlocks. The "Under eye left - over eye right" scheme of freehand warpaint works great on those. It's been a while since I painted Warlocks for the last time but they are great miniatures to paint. One can go totally crazy on smooth layering on the cloth and the helmet and all.

Speaking of great (and fun) miniatures, I really, really have to pick up some Hasslefree minis. They have a catalogue full of really nice minis. Great variety and good level of detail. (and boobs!!!!!11 - see, there i said it)

Speaking of sex, the Saxons look very nice too. (You see what i did there?) The contrast of the very natural palette on everything and the colourful schemes works well and looks realistic. Do you play WAB or is that commission work **** well?

Speaking of **** (you see the trouble I had to go through to make this transistion?), the Götz von Berli(s)chingen(?) mini looks fun. Is it for Helldorado? The duelist looks like a mini from a "how to paint armour" tutorial. Just to be sure, is this metallics or NMM you used on this one? If you used metallics, is that white you use for the final highlights or just some really light silver? Anyway, looks great. I don't really get the bright/white stripes in the sword's blade but there's a lot of things I don't get about highlighting/shading blades properly. ;)

Speaking of suits of armour....I have to admit that I'm confused about the Tau scheme. I think that the scheme seems somewhat unfinished. Probably it's because I've seen some WIP minis primed white and it's because you use similar colours to the 'Eavy Metal team's scheme so that I get the impression that they look kind of unfnished. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for white Tau but I guess I'm just a little confused at the moment. ;)

Anyway, great work as always and keep it up!

Hi, everybody. I'm back with new stuff, but first, here are some answers to Sigur's questions.

the Saxons look very nice too. (You see what i did there?) The contrast of the very natural palette on everything and the colourful schemes works well and looks realistic. Do you play WAB or is that commission work **** well?
Saxons are for me. I begin to build and paint some WAB minis, as I just found some players near my home...
Expect some updates in historical minis soon...

the Götz von Berli(s)chingen(?) mini looks fun. Is it for Helldorado?
Such a beautiful mini ? It's for Helldorado, of course ! And NMM, as I want to get a graphic/comic look to the faction.
But for being clear : the duellist is on the left, and Götz on the right of the pic... Sorry for the mistake.

I think that the scheme seems somewhat unfinished
Agree with you, but I don't want to spend time working properly on a white armor... It's for playing, not for the showcase...
And I have tons of minis to repaint ! ^^

But enough speaking, and more acting :

Khalimans (for the french skirmish game Alkemy) :

And repainted Yu-Jing minis (Infinity), just for test scheme in tabletop quality :

Beautiful work as always.. The eldars are simply awesome!

23-03-2009, 11:48
Hey, Alkemy minis! I've had it in my eye to pick up some of those for a while... Yours are excellent. Infinity is great too. Like all your dang stuff, really. Crazy.

24-03-2009, 08:03
Love the white Tau and I'm a big fan of the infinity stuff. Great work so far :)

Great stuff, I particularly like the Alkemy miniatures and painting.

30-07-2009, 02:44
Lovely Alkemy stuff, but paint more Infinity minis! They have really cool miniature ranges which are refreshingly different to 40k-stlyed futuristic stuff.

Speaking of which, the Space Wolves look great. The face on the Meltagunner is stunning as always. What are you painting these Wolves for? :)

30-07-2009, 05:38
Space Wolves are painted for fun... For the moment, as it's my favorite chapter, as far as I can remember ! :D
I'll may start a little army when the new codex will be relaased.

I like Infinity minis too (Masamune Shirow is one of my favorite mangaka). Maybe I will paint some Nomads...

01-09-2009, 07:47
Random minis from the wordesk :

- don Hidalgo (28mm, resin, Artefaktory). Need to finish the face, gold and base...

- duellists, for a futur dogs of war army :

- imperial knight (still wip) :

- Marco Colombo (wip too) :

Nice painting, as usual. :)

The boyz

Wonderful work as always, Tancrede. Those Alkemey miniatures look very nice.

14-09-2009, 07:13
Small update with last week's work :

- Dark Elves bolt thrower :

- pikemen for my DoW army:

- ogre, for the DoW army too :

- ungols archers for a friend of mine :

Sorry for the bad quality of the pics...

And maybe this thread could be deplaced in the general "random project logs"

17-09-2009, 17:03
Those pikemen look great.

18-09-2009, 23:25
Hey there
Great looking alkemy
I was thinking of starting the game myself but i was wondering how tall are the models?
Could you please maybe give a comparison shot
Keep up the good work

Little update with the beginning of my friend's norses (used as empire infantry in his middenheim army) :

Again, sorry for the bad pic...

13-02-2010, 12:29
WOW brilliant painting skills. Though my eyes just found something more interesting to me than the tau, is that. Are those Gunm mangas the last orders or the first series

15-02-2010, 07:42
First serie, of course ! And some "Last Order" too ! ^^

22-02-2010, 07:28
Little update, with some work done for a friend of mine : a very long time skaven player...

First is a very WIP of skaven artillery :

and the finished Vermin Lord :

25-02-2010, 06:05
I've only seen halve your log (will look at the other halve this afternoon) and i must say your painting is amazing. I like the fact that you have your own style and don't have the typical "french look" to your painting.

25-02-2010, 06:47
Everything looks amazing as always.... and so much of it!
What stood out for me was:
The ogre (Skin tones and Armour).
The Empire knight (especially the shieid)
and the Vermoin Lord above ... although for me the warpstone needs to be a bit brighter or more 'luminous'
But the quantity and quality overall is astounding.

25-02-2010, 17:59
Just amazing... And those vikings makes me choose them for Ancients. Subscribe and 5 stars....Let's not forget the eldars and saxons (so clean and perfect painting).

02-11-2010, 10:13
Oh my god !!
It's a real threadomancy (9 month !!), but it is for a good cause, as I've new stuff to show here ! ^^

It's commission work for a friend of mine : inquisitor lord Lex (still WIP) and his henchmen (finished) :

You can expect new pics of the inquisitor soon, as I want to finish it before the end of the week...

05-11-2010, 06:42
Looking very good mate, i really like all the henchmen, look forward to what you do with the inquisitor too.

05-11-2010, 07:51
Awesome! Fantastic retinue, you've really captured a unifying colour theme there!

05-11-2010, 14:10
Little update with the beginning of my friend's norses (used as empire infantry in his middenheim army) :

Again, sorry for the bad pic...

Love these models.. I have a full unit worth of them sitting on my shelves that now that I see them painted up I need to go and touch them up also :D

Really nice stuff in this log.. wondering why I haven't seen it earlier :S
