Nice update, sometimes the simple things are what makes the army. IT's a very nice paintjob and I really like the way you have used the colours, sweet job man.

This project log is nearly as astonishing as your army itself! It's a joy to look at every single model.
You can be proud of your stamina you showed with this log.

Truly bloody amazing mate.

In all seriousness one of the best IG armies I have ever seen. I am including a platoon of Vostroyans in my army as Grenadiers. All I can hope for is they look half as good as that. I really dig the drummer (I had that idea too) so I hope you don't get offended if my army has a Vostroyan drummer as well.

Hi LOTE,

Just a quick question, do you wanna give me some fluff on your Vostroyans? I am currently trying to put together a Vostroyan codex, and need some help.

Also do you mind if I put your pictures in the codex? (You will be credited of course)

It's been a long time since I've played around with my guard. Daemons and Ravenwing have been the preferred army of choice as I struggled to adapt to the new IG codex. I clung to the old codex mentality and couldn't break myself away from how my squads were assembled and fought.

But then I had a vision from the Emperor and a new list appeared!

http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/5900/img0344qo.jpg

The 11th Vostroyan is up and running once again as I finally jump in and add the mobile support I've always lacked. This now bumps my transport count up to 4:
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/9744/img1803uv.jpg
These chimeras will be painted like my other ones in the kommando khaki / bleached bone scheme i.e:
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8696/img0631m.jpg

Thanks to some friends, my sentinal count is now up to 9. I field a squadron of 3 with autocannons to outflank:

Time to break out the roughcoat and airbrush!

Awesome!!! Glad to see your back. If you add one more Sentinel, you would have 10 and could field the APOC Formation. I dream of that formation as it grants Strategic Redeployment.

The log definitely isn't dead...just in a very long hibernation. I spent the meantime painting up a 3000 point Empire Force, 2 LotR forces and tinkering with several other armies before dropping them.
I actually just bought the start of an Elysian army to give me a mobile IG force.

However, I believe I found the answer in a mechanized platoon led by Al'Rahem. Outflanking with chimeras is a great thing.

Lined up for paint I have 9 sentinals (now with armored tops), a leman russ executioner and some odds and ends...

Playing a game today actually. I'll get some pictures!

@Servant: Thanks!

@DigitsDavid: Thanks, it means a lot. I follow your Drogans on the AB as well as the most awesome terrain compilation ever in Camp Talvenus!

@Razormasticator: Good to see you around. Not too many are left from when this log was really up and running. I'd like to add one more sentinal albeit in the form of a rapier laser platform. Just gotta find one more of those.

why did i never think of outflanking meq platoon...

Fizzy
21-07-2011, 23:41
I guess you are not far from being done with your army then? Its pretty massive :)

Do you eves use the Macharius tank outside of apoc games?

Light of the Emperor
23-07-2011, 02:51
@Fizzy: I use a lot of my FW stuff in friendly games. Thankfully I have opponents who aren't tied to the rules. The tanks aren't as overpowered in regular games as one would think. I do love my heavy mortars though!
I'll add some pictures of a 5-6K per side battle below...

Played against some Space Wolves the other day. 3 objectives, pitched battle which ended with a draw. I had a chimera full of troops that decided to immobilize on a barricade 11 in. away from an objective. Ugh.

Before you ask, the sisters were "Valkyries" which counted as Sky Claws.

http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/5669/img3104h.jpg

And the 5-6K Battle against Blood Angels. What deployment looked like. Clearly still some stuff for me to paint!

Any IG player MUST have a copy of the Uplifting Primer. If not, report to the commissars!
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2339/img2517b.jpg

In case you haven't noticed, I love banners. Many units in the army have 'em. Slowly adding free hand. In fact, I love banners so much that I even made a life size one. No one would grant me Ld rolls within 4ft. of it though!

http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/5154/img2537n.jpg

Ultimately I lost the game as friendly fire from my bassie scattered onto a unit contesting an objective. The crew was promptly executed for their incompetence which caused an expenditure of lives and the Emperor's siege shells.
I was left to read the litany of forgiveness: "Oh God-Emperor, forgive your servant his sins and remember I am just a man".

Best Vostroyan army that can be found on the web. I like how you've added a lot of banners to the army, nice to hear you're adding some freehand to them. Nice game shots. With the banner, now you only need to do a Vostroyan costume... :D

Great pics. Question. Have you ever thougth about making a gunner seregeant hawquer? I made one for my veteran vostroyans and it looks great and but I want to se one made by such a great painter and converter as you. And finally someone else then me that always brings his primer to battle ^^

LotE, there's some awesome stuff in this log, and I'm glad to see that you've not abandoned the Guard in my absence. :p

Light of the Emperor

@Gen Steiner: Good to see you! The Vostroyan 11th continues to serve the Emperor.

@Servant: I've considered Hawker but I have no immediate use for him. Maybe down the road though. I do need to convert a Al-Rahem stand in for the Vostroyans. Currently I just use the officer w. plasma pistol and power sword as its wysiwyg. Still, I'd like him to have more style!

Speaking of Al-Rahem, currently working on his platoon's rides. His outflank rule wins me a lot of games. Here are the WIPs:
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/268/img3132gb.jpg

Which will eventually look like this:
http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/9229/img3133l.jpg

Airbrush of Kommando Khaki, drybrush of Bleached Bone for the armor. Various detailing for the rest. All my transports are in the bone color while any battle tanks are in Vossie green.

Nice work, Im working on 2 chimaras as well for my vossie veteran regement.
Tip if you are making harker, the grenadelauncher model is a great base.
I just cutted off the barrel trimmed down a really small heavybolter from the baneblade kit and then glued it in place.
Then I converted a cadian grenadelauncher drum mag to a heaybolter mag and put it on the belt.

2 more Chimeras finished. Unfortunately the roughcoat that I used started acting up and created a terrible finish. Its not as fine as it should be and that was only after two previous uses!
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1874/img3142r.jpg

Gotta finish the front and back tank which will complete my transports:
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/3426/img3145bf.jpg

After this it will be 7 sentinels, 1 Executioner, 1 Exterminator and 1 Manticore.
But first, a vacation for me!

General S, it's the Communications Module from the Imperial Bastion kit. (Hi, btw!)

It looks excellent on the Chimera, LotE.

Light of the Emperor
08-08-2011, 21:04
Indeed, its the comms module. That chimera transports my psykers so I figured they'd need something to help commune with the astronomicon or whatever other psychic currents flow their way. That will get fixed up a bit more along with the chassis.

Ahh I see. Makes sense; although I'd've gone for something a little less tall, as that may pose some issues when going under bridges.

Finally, after almost 6 years, the Vostroyans finally get some transports:
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/5240/img3999t.jpg

The first three are for Al-Rahem's (still need a Russian name for him) mechanized platoon. The one with the relay can be used either as the command chimera or for the sanctioned psykers.

4 sentinels coming up next!

Also, does anyone have the old metal exterminator autocannons for the leman russ chassis? If not that, just two of the cadian plastic autocannons? I can't start work on my Exterminator Russ until I get the weaponry. PM me with a price, thanks!

Thanks guys. Huzzah indeed for no longer having to walk into combat...not that they really did alot of walking into combat anyways!

Courtesy of the General *Haten-shun!* , I now have two autocannons coming my way so I can complete my Exterminator. Once again it shows the kindness of the online community. Over the 6  years that this log has been running, I have received models and bitz from every continent bar Antarctica and Africa...many for absolutely free. For example: hand made plasticard wheels from Denmark, a vox trooper sculpt from Sweden, a chimera from California and the baneblade (below). Graf-Marshal Vladkov thanks such fine servants of the Emperor.

Up next on the production lines...A baneblade (donated to the cause with the caveat that it gets a proper paint job), the Exterminator, a HK/Flamer sentinel, 3 las sentinels and the Deathstrike.
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/997/img4033i.jpg

I have also disbanded my Inquisitorial Stormtrooper army from 2003/04. That means many of the servants will now find their way into the ranks of the guard. Its time to put the "Imperial" back into the Imperial Guard! But a small selection...

Like that convertion, question. You dont make alot of weathering. Any reson for that?

Light of the Emperor
02-10-2011, 15:43
When FW first released the heavy mortars, I immediately picked them up because they fit right into the artillery theme that I wanted to follow with my Vostroyan regiment. Secondly, there was no Griffon tank in the old 'dex!

Now that the Griffon is back, I inserted two of 'em into my army list. No tank, no problem!
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/9664/img4075b.jpg

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/4461/img4078f.jpg

The bases are the exact length and width of a chimera with heavy bolter mounts acting as the additional Griffon weapon. I think its as best as can be done to create a "counts as" Griffon. And, to be honest, if any opponent still balks at that, then they are probably not worth playing against to begin with. Remember people...its about the fun ;)

These will get based the same as the rest of the army. Can't wait to get 'em done.

And a shameless plug...I'm selling a lot of my Games Day, FW and Limited Edition models. You can check them out HERE (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=319442)
Cheers!

Servant of the Emperor
02-10-2011, 18:12
NICE! That really give the impression that it is a artillery regement that dig in a trench lobbing shells at the emperors enemy. That convertion would fit perfektly for a Death korps of krieg army.

Mind if i steal that idea?

Only problem I can see is when it moves. Look over there boyz a mortar is moving at crusing speed xD

Life has had its ups and downs for me recently and I did not touch a model for quite a few months. However, I've slowly gotten back into the swing of things. The biggest catalyst was the selling of all my excess miniatures. Now that I'm no longer staring at a mountain of plastic and metal, I can focus on some fun projects.

First up is a Vostroyan Salamander command tank. My army list HQ has an officer, banner and three snipers sitting in a chimera and unless it blows up, they never appear on the battlefield. I'd like to use this as my command chimera as it is a neat way to showcase the squad riding around inside.

I am no Tinners, or any other plasticard master on this site, but I think this tank is moving along nicely. Still heavily WIP...

134332

134333

Also building up:
4 Ogryn
Al'Rahem (Vostroyan style of course)
Sly Marbo (ditto)
3 lascannon sentinels
1 heavy flamer sentinel
1 Deathstrike

We fight on!

Finally! I have waited so long for an update :D I probably said this before but you made me start with the firstborns and I never looked back since then. I really like that command chimera idea. I simply putted a big radio antenna and some city of death bitz on my Co chimera.

The salamanders looking nice and is a nice idea to show case the squad it would be nice to be able to get the vox officer up their too. Are You going to use it as a salamander of just a chimera? And can chimeras take autocannons i dont have a codex to hand. Anyway its nice to see some new stuff up as you where the person who made me start looking into vossies and inspired me to start up a army.

Good to hear from everybody! I'll use the salamander as both a chimera or salamander depending on the game. I believe imperial armor allows for autocannon chimeras but the current codex does not. Most of my games are friendlies so it'll be ok.

@Gen Steiner: I like the expansion, especially a rough rider command. Not so sure about the rhino but the sniper teams are cool too, just with a lower BS. Thanks for the link!

Great work as always.

Frankly, if you had a Chimera with an Autocanon and told me it was just a Multi-Laser I would be more than happy to play against it. Something like that is such a minor difference that I could not see players worry about it.

Nice conversion work.

Good to hear from everybody! I'll use the salamander as both a chimera or salamander depending on the game. I believe imperial armor allows for autocannon chimeras but the current codex does not. Most of my games are friendlies so it'll be ok.

Yeh, I wouldn't begrudge you using an Autocannon in a friendly anyway! I believe the cost of an upgrade to Autocannon is the same as a vox in a Guard Squad.

@Gen Steiner: I like the expansion, especially a rough rider command. Not so sure about the rhino but the sniper teams are cool too, just with a lower BS. Thanks for the link!

No problems! I keep updating it so keep popping back. :)

Work is slowly progressing. Picked up a Trojan on ebay and am working on the interior:
137316 137317

Why a Trojan? So I finally have something to pull this:
137318

Once the Trojan is built, I'll be roughcoating it along with the Deathstrike and Salamander. Then its on to airbrushing where 4 sentinels will join them!

Sweet, you never run out of ideas and new stuff to add ^^
Might be a dumb question but how many point would that army be if you fielded everything?

Hi SotE: All in all, I believe I'm somewhere in the 5,000 - 6,000 points range. I've had a few mega battles with them (not Apoc) and its a lot of fun seeing the entire army on the board.

The interior of the Trojan has been fully painted so I've glued the rest of the chassis together and blocked off the opening. I have a few more bitz to add and some final gaps to greenstuff before it gets a roughcoat and primer. The crane is magnetic so I can swap it for a radar assembly in case I want something different. Can't wait to get these guys painted up.

I would suggest you get your own blog/ log. This is thread jacking and quite similar to interrupting a conversation with no thought to what the original people were saying. Re-post and I am sure that you will get more feedback.

LotE, looking great! Hope all is well!

With a nod to the Sgt in Dawn of War: "Rally Squad!"

I've been up to plenty of things but unfortunately none of these involved my beloved Vostroyans. With a month to go before I ship off to England for graduate school, I wanted to get my model count down to 0 (as if that'll ever happen)! I have picked up a brush and am nearing completion on two more sentinels and the first part of the command squad that will be riding in the Salamander:
147099

147100

And here's what's been keeping me busy. I am really enjoying 8th edition and the majority of my games are now fantasy or LotR. I, for one, cannot stand 6th edition 40K. Not a fan of allies in the sense that people can create some nasty and unfluffy combos. Also don't like hull points, random terrain, bring your own fortifications...I pretty much skipped 4th ed and it was 5th that brought me back in. But 6th? I think my guys will be hunkering in their barracks. :P

Wooo hooo! Glad this log is back on track mate. You inspired my Vossie army and i am always on the look out for your updates.

Your empire army is a beaut as well.

LofE,

No mate! No hunkering in the Barracks, 6th is fine. Allies are no big deal just another bunch of xenos scum for the guns of the IG to mow down.

Thanks guys.
Col Jacka, there's not much gaming to be done anyways as I'm heading to Sheffield, England until June. The poor Vossies are getting packed up but not before a final army shot with all the new goodies!

Finished 2 lascannon sentinels and some of the salamander command squad:
147571

How many boxes does it take for a game room? Still going...and this is just my books!
147572

Sad state. FYI, the cityfight table is currently up for grabs on ebay (provided you pick it up too)!

Command squad is done. Onto the tanks, especially the Salamander. 3 weeks to go before I move to Europe.

Because i love your stuff, i want to ask you: where in the UK are you moving to, and are you going to game with this army?

Light of the Emperor
23-08-2012, 13:04
I will be in Sheffield for my masters. Alas, no army at the moment as I have enough things to bring over ;)

Tanks done!!!

First up is the Trojan with a painted interior cargo hold:
148973 148972

Salamander command tank. My command squad would always be riding in a chimera so they never really saw the table. I wanted to have a visual impact because the Vostroyan command models are some of the best out there (especially the commander). Graf General Mikhail A. Vladkov is now riding in style. I plan to use it as a "counts as" chimera but perhaps as a salamander too in friendly games.
148974 148975 148976

And all my transport/ support tanks together:
148971

With the completion of the tanks, I still have a squad of ogryn and a deathstrike.
Those won't be done anytime soon so you know what that means: ARMY SHOT!!!
Stay tuned! :)

LoE,

Is this the new man cave mate?

Light of the Emperor
27-08-2012, 12:51
Nope, it is the old game room now completely disassembled and boxed up. It won't see the light of day until I come back and find a new place. Rest assured, it will go back up!
My cityfight table was just sold off to a local gaming group and it will be put to good use there. The main focus will be on the table you see in the picture. 8x4 solid oak. I have multiple battlefield maps (including BFG) so its very customizable.

Love the group shots, always good to see that Malcador again. Though I still wonder where he puts his flaming torch when he has to go inside, sure that would be against regulations.

And as for coming to England I must make two suggestions...
1. Bring a coat (preferably a selection).
2. Come to the FW Open Day next year, well worth it and i'll even buy you a drink.
