A typical IG painting project. I am using Steel Legion models for my DIY army. Originally I wanted to due to chem inhalers, but we will see. For now, it will be mostly infantry. I play the army very on an agressive level. (including charging squads up the field.) I thought the steel legion models worked well for representing dire-hard guardsmen.

List of to-do's

122 infantry models (including specials, characters and heavy weapon teams) - This is what I currently have. At 1850, I actually have about 150 men on the field. So this list will become larger. Im a big fan of rocket launchers. I already have 12 teams and will probably have more later on.

3 Sentinals
1 Leman Russ
1 Chimera
1 Hellhound
1 Warhound Titan (Made from an armorcast reaver)
1 Shadowsword (Armorcast. Completely refaced with plasticard. I will be using this eight page journal found on CMON as a guideline)

That about covers the 1850 list. (minus the titan) My armored version will probably include 2 additional demolishers and 2 more hellhounds. Probably a second chimera. I decided to base the models on red volcanic ash. As for the models themselves, I will be using grey and brown.

What inspired me to use red ash -

The prototype unit -

Heavy bolter team with a sample base -

Colors Used -

Vallejo Model Color Black
Vallejo Model Color German WWII Luftwaffe Blue (coats)
Vallejo Model Color Light Grey (coat drybrush, Pants, collars, black highlights)
Citadel Scorched Earth (leather)
Citadel Bestial Brown (leather drybrush)
Vallejo Model Color Boltgun Blue (goggles)
Citadel Boltgun Metal
Citadel Black/Chesnut Ink
Citadel Goblin Green (packs)
Citadel Green Ink (packs)

Citadel Scorched Earth
Various random drybrush layers of -
Citadel Bestial Brown
Vallejo Model Color Cavalry Brown (more like red. Very similar to GW's Teracotta)
Vallejo Model Color Red (very fine. VMC's Red is similar to Red Gore)

Picture Directory - http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b243/Alsiaie/DH%20and%20IG/IG/

Basilisk/Medusa hybrid project using magnets. Also a magnetized sentinal - http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b243/Alsiaie/magnet%20projects/

Without shoulder pads, unit markings will be a problem. I'm open for suggestions here. There are arm patches, but still.... The leader of the prototype squad was marked with a large red cross on top of his helmet. Not sure if that can be turned into some sort of marking.

looks very cool i cant wait to see your vehicles.

04-09-2006, 01:50
You army list is kind of pushing it. But very cool for integration between titans and small scale models. Keep in mind that you need a backup plan in case people don't want to play with the titan.

04-09-2006, 03:51
A small misunderstanding. I'm short about 10 infantrymen to field an 1850 list without FW material. This army will probably exceed 4000 points. What's listed above is what I currently own. I just happen to have super heavies available to work on atm. A good number of folks here have superheavy models. Though rarely used, we do have mega battles once in a great while. I also plan on taking this army and the titan to Adepticon 2007. (Gladiator) Sometime next month I hope to set up a 2000 pt gladiator match against a nid player and his bio-titan. Should be fun.

I'm also looking for ideas on for my vehicles. I'm probably going to base them luftwaffe grey. I'm not a big fan on blotchy camouflage. I was thinking going the 'spikey' route. (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/imperialguard/painting/troopcamo/images/large/tip2.jpg) But I'm not sure what colors to do. Perhaps calvary brown (teracotta) edges with a fill of bestial brown? Expect to see some photoshop paintjobs in the future. :)

An alternate black volcanic base. I am considering different options now that I have partially painted vehicles on the table...

For the Vehicles, check out Pyramid_Head's photobucket account for inspiration, he seemed to have good schemes.

I like the infantry, but if you're using the red bases, i'd lighten them up a tiny bit.

04-09-2006, 19:30
A do it your self job here. I used the heavy bolter team's base to cover the sentinal's. The camouflage colors here are not an exact match. Think of it as teracotta lines with a fill of bestial brown. The sentinal was physically painted with WWII Luftwaffe. It's just a basic coat. No details or metallic parts. Thoughts?

As for Pyramid_Head's album, PB won't let me browse it. (assuming it's photobucket) His account is private and requires a password to view it.

A repost from the general painting forum. Scratch built reactive plating for the chimera. The armor is designed to cause ammuntion to explode before hidding the main hull. Here it represents extra armor. Very similar to FW's version, but simplified. Also much larger. I need to add railroad scale rivets on the armor and lasgun hatches later.

I have also completed measurements and a template for the shadowsword's first layer of side plating. It may look off in the front, but it's not glued on flat. (puddy) Most of the details have been shaven off. All the weapons have been torn off as well. The main hull is completely hollow for both parts. This could open up LED light options in the future. Most likely, the removable body (turret) will only be slightly modified and not refaced.

04-09-2006, 20:33
I decided to splash on some real paint for armor camouflage. Good for red volcanic ash?

Vallejo Cavalry Brown
Citadel Bestial Brown

06-09-2006, 03:42
I like the work you've done on your Chimy with the extra armor, I am looking forward to seeing it in stages and when done. Are you going to weatherise or battle damage it?

06-09-2006, 21:13
An unimportant update. Just keeping this active. I have given 45 infantrymen their basic coats. WWI Luftwaffe and Scorched Earth. They still have a long way to go yet.

I also have some alternate Plasma gunner poses. It's a simple plastic plasma gun glued onto a modified lasgun. Being metal, you need to be creative with model poses. The conversion was not my idea. The model on the right is an original cast. The two on the left are conversions.

Another thing I'd like to get some input on is the color of plasma. I've seen it done in pretty much ever color under the rainbow. I'm a fan of green and really hate blue. Although based on the overall colors of my models, I was thinking purple plasma coils. They really would stand out that way.

Just for fun, I attached a 20x16" board covered with white newsprint to my desk. Now I don't have to lay down folded paper sheets when taking pictures. :) Of course for true displays I would have the camera angle 180 degrees to the model so the desk space does not show.

07-09-2006, 07:49
that's a very nice scheme you got there. Look particularily good in a group shot.

As for plasma gun colour, why not blue? It would work well with the greys of the uniform. If its not blue then i'd gor for green as your third colour for the army.

07-09-2006, 16:34
Perhaps I will take a break from my mass production painting line and fully paint a plasma gunner or two.

08-09-2006, 01:29
you can model really well but painting... its pretty average. I think bases are very important. Try sand and go:
1: undercaoat chaos black
2: drybrush codex grey
3: drybrush fortress grey and then skull white straight after for blendintg
4: another drybrush of skull white if you really want, makesit the dominant color though

also, highlight the luffwafe blue with shadow grey, or shadow grey+skull white at about 80:20

good work

08-09-2006, 14:38
I like the way this army is coming together. I saw a really well painted light blue plasma gun IG model with plasma reflection on his head and hands, like it was glowing, that is what really made the plasma seems alive. Or you could always take the complicated route and drill it and stick an LED in it, then your plasma gun would really glow...

08-09-2006, 16:10
I originally planned on getting about 170 infantry men before I even considered buying a second russ or demolisher. This army is a paint 'n play. Spending three hours per model is way too much for me. Now if I was running 70-90 men with a lot of tanks, then I wouldn't mind doing it as IG tanks are very easy to do. The protype squad I first posted took about 3 hours for 13 men not including basing. (10 are shown, but I had a few extras) Simple coats plus drybrushing. One thing to remember is that there are other projects in the works. :) I hope to bring three armies to Adepticon 2007. 2000 pts in IG, 1000 in eldar and 1850 in Tsons. Eldar won't even be started until December and will get the most attention. My Tsons will probably get a face lift. The tournament which my IG will be used in at Adepticon doesn't have army comp or painting scores. Perhaps that's why I'm sacraficing some detail.

14-09-2006, 21:33
A little use of some Jewler's chains :) I bought the russ assembled with no acc sprue. So I didnt have the compartment bit that fits on the back. :( I still need to draw up templates for plastic card extra armor.

14-09-2006, 22:29
looks damn good.

17-09-2006, 18:47
A slight change of plans folks. :) I will continue to work on my IG but I think it's going to get pushed back to a March/April deadline. I have recently acquired a special free gift on which I am very grateful. I will be including other projects now, which includes further work on my Tsons and then Eldar in October. After selling most of my 6000+ points of oop eldar, I will be rebuilding that force with new sculpts.

Right now Tsons seem to top my priority list. With about 2000 points fully painted, I want to finish painting the other half. That's about 1000 points in daemons and roughly 1000 points in terminators and additional vehicles.

Tsons To-Do's
1 Forge World Pre-Heresy Landraider (A second LR to be exact. :))
9 Rubric Terminators (metal)
2 Terminator Hybrid models. (2 New CSM terminator lord models dressed to fit both Terminator HQs roles and two Terminator Asp Champions)
18 Flamers of Tzeentch
1 Statured Daemon Prince
1 Dreadnought with dual CCW and Warp Flame
10 Screamers
2 Chaos Spawns
6+ Additional Thrall Wizards (I field up to 12 at 1850:angel:)
1 Rhino
1 Defiler (perhaps 2)

Well that's what I can think of off the top of my head. My tsons, which are already painted, were mostly coated with Vallejo Model Color paints. Actually, the only citadel colors used were metallic and browns for the bases. I don't have any daemons painted and I plan on using only Vallejo Game Colors for them. When Eldar rolls around, chances are I will make a 100% commitment to Vallejo brand.

My choice to convert to Vallejo is slightly due to their quality, but mostly because of the free gift mentioned earlier. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b243/Alsiaie/quick%20drop/paint.jpg
72 Game Colors which match both current and OOP Citadel paints.:)

More picts to come!

18-09-2006, 19:38
So I gave those vallejo paints a test run...The flames still need some work, but considering the small amount of time spent, he turned out rather well.

18-09-2006, 23:41
Test. :D:D

18-09-2006, 23:53
Lots of armies and good painting??? Sounding good!

19-09-2006, 00:01

19-09-2006, 04:17
Test complete.

19-09-2006, 14:17
They look good. I cant paint fire that good. Can you tell us how to paint fire like that?

19-09-2006, 16:35
It isn't too difficult. The key is having all the right colors. Just simply layer each color on leaving a small amount of the previous color behind it. It works a little better when the lower layers are wet as well. The paint begins to blend and you can eliminate layer lines. As you can see, I sort of had that problem when I blended the purple. Purple is a pain to do and I'm still learning the tricks as well. Either my colors turned up too blue or too pink. Blue is easy to blend though. :p

19-09-2006, 21:08
I bought another defiler kit yesterday. That makes one NIB and two painted/primed. With the plans to attend Adepticon 2007, it would be cool to enter in the Rogue Demon. (Golden Daemon EQ) This year's entries were good, but I only saw a few vehicles. Most of the entries were single infantry models. Some were duplicates from 2005. A lot were painted in extreme "anime" styles. Not my taste.

With that aside, I wanted my defiler to really stand out regardless of contest entries. At least a center piece equivalent model. I found this through google, which has given me a good starting concept on what I will be doing. http://www.warmongerclub.com/images/events/2006/0306_40kTourney/DeFlo_nurgel_defiler.jpg

Unfortunately I'm looking at $100 minimum for this model with the Hellcannon included. I'm also contemplating on adding a platform or pier on which a Tson sorcerer can stand on. I saw this done by a fellow Golden Daemon winner that I've met. (nurgle defiler) I am also considering combining additional parts from my other defilers and/or creating a scorpion pose.

Just a random dream.

[EDIT]I have added the correct picture this time....

20-09-2006, 22:19
A major update. I have begun work on my terminators and terminator lord hybrids. The hybrids represent both Aspiring champions with a Powerweapon and Chainfist and Lords/Lieutenants in terminator armor with a Powerweapon and CCW. I often have a mix of both of these models in a given list. $17 a pop isn't cheap, so buying four was too costly.

The arms were poorly planned. In no way shape or form will they stay glued on without pins. I filed off the bulbs and added brass rods. I also added small flames on his back pipes.

Obviously one arm is the powerweapon. Now I know it's a long stretch, but the left arm represents a Chainfist, CCW, Powerfist and Lightning claw. Hence the hybrid. The holes were filled with greenstuff so I can pin them on.

I have also added flames to the terminators. I really love the old style metal CSM models. They work great to represent their automaton liveliness. I don't like the spike racks however. So I had added flames in their place. The fire will most likely be painted green to match the Flamers' bases.

20-09-2006, 22:55
These would be the models I have already painted. It's a long story, but I painted an 1850 Tson army in six days. The team that went to Adepticon 2006 had a no show. My buddy called me and said, "It's one week until Adepticon we need another person. We will pay."

The whole point was bringing me to the 4v4 tournament which was no issue model wise. I ended up attending the 1v1 tournie as well just for something to do. I had six days to fully paint this army. Some of the stuff looks like crap due to this. Of course skills improve as time goes on.

The end result -

The Death Chicken (Still materializing from the warp. :):))

Rubric Squads (everyone got special backpacks)
(daemonic chains on this champ)

The lonely thrall wizard

The dread (improved since Adepticon)

Whats left of my Daemon Prince.

Poorly painted landraider (will be replaced with a FW Pre-heresy LR)

Lord on Disc (recent work. Don't look at the spelling error)

20-09-2006, 23:11
They look good. I cant paint fire that good. Can you tell us how to paint fire like that?

I second that aswell, plus your work looks cool mate ,6 days to paint that lot good going :)

21-09-2006, 01:21
6 days for all that?????? very nice ver nice.

21-09-2006, 02:16
6 days for all that?????? very nice ver nice.

Whatever was shown in the first army picture I posted. I was unemployed at the time so it wasn't so bad. The hardest part was fitting the resin bases. I had to file foot-prints on every base to fit the model and then drill in a brass rod in every foot.

21-09-2006, 20:22
Here's some interesting eye candy. I molded a large sword on my Daemon Prince's arm. It has an eye in the middle of it. It still needs some work, but at least it's unique. :)

21-09-2006, 21:36
A trial paint-job on the terminator's flames. The ink was still wet when I took the picture. Chances are I'll mix it up and add white/blue flames within the unit.

24-09-2006, 19:21
Blue warp flames this time. This terminator is also completed.

24-09-2006, 23:25
Very nice termies and fire man! The blue fire looks especially good:D

25-09-2006, 00:09
Rush, rush rush! Seven more days until my new job. Unfortunately its 48-68 hours per week after my training. Of course finishing my tsons is out of the question in that time frame. Regardless, I need to get them done asap to make room for my Eldar and IG. I'm still struggling to find a Hellcannon of Chaos through online trade. I really wanted to start that defiler this week.

Anyways, more wippy on the Daemon Prince. 60% more Daemonicness on the arm...

Now I'm not that experienced with green stuff and I'm sort of in a rush. But this would be an attempt to create small flames on the skull. So I didn't crush my own work, patches of flames will be added one by one as they completely cure. Hmmm now to find his missing head...

25-09-2006, 00:27
The demon princes sword has some real potential...I almost think it would look a bit more balanced if there was something coming back off his elbow (parallel to the swordblade), like an extention of the blade or fire or tentacle or something...

Interesting stuff, good conversions :D

25-09-2006, 00:39
Do you mean running parallel under the sword or along the sword's edge?

25-09-2006, 21:51
Ok this is it for the GS work. Anymore and I'm going to go crazy and probably end up destroying this model. One tentacle for daemonic mutation and enough flames to cover the skull. Now where's that damn head... (he also has a piece of cloak that needs to be glued on)

26-09-2006, 04:27
I found his head! :)

26-09-2006, 20:24
I found his head! :)

27-09-2006, 21:52
Yay paint! I painted the skin before doing the robe. I used Stone wall grey as my basecoat. IT doesn't show up very good in the picture. I had to increase the light exposure to make the robe true color. The third picture was corrected for the skin tone. I had to have blue somewhere being tzeentch, so I had no choice but to use it on the robe. With good lowlights and highlights, the Stone wall grey might actually work...Thoughts?

28-09-2006, 00:46
Lookin good now lets see that shword(spelling mistake intended:D ) painted!

28-09-2006, 04:39
Some more work. Still a long way to go... I decided to change skin colors. I used Wolf Grey (similar to Space wolf grey but with more white) as my base color. Lowlights with Stonewall grey and highlights with white. The overall model is pretty smooth, so very little lowlights were applied. This is chaos, so I can get away with strange things. Like alternating bone color on his horns and nails. This does include his toes, although it is rather small.

28-09-2006, 22:13
A little preview. :) Several more hours to go...

28-09-2006, 22:17
this update made it look alot better! The fading tentacel is looking esecial good, the purpel stuff is also nice. The blade would look great with a obsidian look on it IMO ;) keep it up

15-10-2006, 21:56
I have finnaly finished the Daemon Prince. :)

16-10-2006, 04:09
An alternate background to bring the colors out better.

16-10-2006, 04:18
I had a request for a close-up of the hair.

16-10-2006, 04:33
The model is absolutely awsome. The darker skin looks alot better IMO. Also the base is pretty cool and really adds to the model. Nice work!

16-10-2006, 10:44
You should highlight the skin more

self biased
16-10-2006, 15:00
looking good.

17-10-2006, 03:46
Looks really good. Any chance you could tell us some of the models that you used on your demon prince? More specifically, where the head came from?

17-10-2006, 05:11
I can give you a breakdown.

Body, head, left arm -

(Modifications to the above)
Fire was made using Green stuff and added to the skull in the left hand. Plastic CSM helmet horns were added to the skull. Green stuff was used to create an additional horn on the right side of the model's head.

Right Arm (replaced original arm) -
Right arm of OOP Pink Horror 2

Right Arm cont. -
Sword - Keeper of Secrets Sword Arm (Cut just above the curved blades)

Right Arm detailing -
Simple work with Greenstuff shown here.

Base - Epicast Resin 40mm Warp Flame base

17-10-2006, 12:46
Yep, I like that miniature too. Well done.

17-10-2006, 16:36
This particular model is paint-to-play. I spent a little time on conversions, but I had a can of primer go bad and most of the model got ruined. I also rarely use this, but it still neads paint. WIP for now, but of course still a lower standard.

17-10-2006, 21:23
Looking very deadly there man! Love the dread and i cant wait for more keep o going!!!!

17-10-2006, 23:03
That demon prince came out really nice :)

I think my only overall recommendation would be to try to push your shading a little darker overall.

Nice conversion, paint job really compliments it.

18-10-2006, 06:52
I hate this model... I really do. I didn't even feel like taking decent pictures lol. But it has to be painted. I'm not really trying hard on quality here...

21-10-2006, 05:22
Meh. It's not highlighted yet, but close enough.

03-11-2006, 20:39
Eldar has been started...yay!

1"x1/16" magnet discs + 1/4"x1/16" discs for eldar turrets.

03-11-2006, 21:12
Yay more! Looks good. Love the dread. For your eldar what scheme are you doin?

03-11-2006, 21:41
I do not know yet. My eldar is not touching paint until I get an airbrush. I also have to order some Hirst-Arts molds for the bases. It's now too cold here to use spray primer. This will be a xmas project most likely. I have a lot of assembling to do.

At $6 a pop for serpent sprues, modular vehicles are easy on the budget. I looked hard and long at these eldar tanks. I can tell you that the crew compartment can be magnetized with the falcon hatch from one kit. (serpent-to-falcon tank) However I will probalby just glue the serpent compartment on for all my tanks. Less work. However magnetizing the serpent turrets is another challenge. In order to keep the component numbers down and appearance up, it was nearly impossible to magnetize the guns themsleves to the turret. The biggest problem were the two gunshields. I have decided to say screw it and order whole serpent sprues to cover each turret that I need. This will also give me the additional crew compartments for the falcon/prism kits that I buy.

18-11-2006, 23:12
Just a little test run on some castings of scenic base pieces for the eldar army. :) 1x1" blocks.

19-11-2006, 00:00
Another casting type.

19-11-2006, 17:12

I'm probably going to stick a wraithlord on this one.

19-11-2006, 19:26
Sorry have been away for a weekend. Your eldar are going to look awesome. Is that eldar the new dire avenger exarch?

19-11-2006, 20:46
@ scorpio

Yes he is.

For those wondering where these tiles come from....Two hirst arts molds. It's merlin's magic mix. Basically it's dental plaster with mold release compound in it. Formulated for hobbies and has a 14,000 psi compression resistance. Very heavy and durable material. This aint some cheap plaster-of-paris junk hehe.

Still working on the wraithord pose. The body isnt actually glued on yet, but this gives you a good idea on what's happening. :)

19-11-2006, 21:47

19-11-2006, 22:12
What craft world colours you going for

19-11-2006, 23:45
Chances are, I'm going to do Altansar. Here's a fake test. :)

20-11-2006, 00:46
Ahhh i love the new wraithlords. That pose is going to look awesome.

21-11-2006, 00:50
EPIC! :) Actually I kept the pose simple. There is a such thing as too dynamic. I'm still debating on the tabard. Right now it's just tacked on. I'm also looking at the other little details that I could glue on. We will see.

21-11-2006, 00:55
I think it looks good, although, it could use some motion. Perhaps sculpt your own? I like the base you did for him though! Ah casting. The miracle to making personal armies huge.

21-11-2006, 00:58
Yeah I'm not really a fan of the banner and tabard parts. It wouldn't be hard to make my own with greenstuff. Cloth banners/strips bent in the right direction would give a little more life to the model. I will think on that another day.

21-11-2006, 01:02
Well whatever you decide, good luck! I know I am having a tough time working on my Flesh Tearers.

21-11-2006, 01:15
Great bases, GREAT idea doing Altansar!

21-11-2006, 03:54
You guys want to see something really scarry.... Almost $300 in wraithguard... :wtf::wtf::eek: They need a good stripping though. Imagine all 18 on 40mm bases. SEXY! Will I use them all? Probably not hehe. I'm compelled to get two more though. It still breaks my heart that I can't field those 60 warp spiders anymore. I had to find a new obsession!

21-11-2006, 15:10
You certainly did find a new obsession!
The wraithguard and wraith lord are going to look sweet.

21-11-2006, 15:21
I wish there were plastic Wraithguard! That would make my life really fun! lol
My friend fields 18 Wraithguard with a warlock in each. Nasty combo, but big overkill on points! lol

22-11-2006, 00:35

Sort of playing around with some patterns. I attend a lot of RTTs so display is important. I was thinking for a unit of 10 dire avengers I could group them together for judging using this tile pattern.

23-11-2006, 18:11
Doing a fire prism right..

Step 1. PIN PIN PIN. Does GW seriously think this thing will stay together with such small glue space? I filed off the pewter "peg" and inserted a 1/16" thick brass rod for this part. It seems there's some mold problems with the crystal too. That's a greenstuff job for another day.

Here's a little thing I got used for next to nothing. As you can see two components have been recasted. The left fin and gun support in the rear. I will probably not use this in standard games, but I will probably modifiy it to make it tabletop ready. Other than the pilot himself, the entire thing is resin. Even both halves of the main turret. It's quite heavy! The rules for it sucks though. A G72 heavy2 blast on a fast skimmer tank. About 160 points (give or take) but yet I can't move it in order to fire the weapon....sigh....Something to consider for an upcoming mega battle though. 2 fire prisms and the night spinner for long range support. I'm talking a 30'x8' table! :)

What gun is it?? lol

I hate the Fire Prism. My friend commissioned me to make and paint his, I turned him down, I had helped him with the first and new what a bitch it was! lol

Looking good though!

23-11-2006, 18:21
I edited that post while you wrote yours. It's a nightspinner. You hate fire prisms eh?

Think about this... a 24'-30'x8' table. 60" per fire prism. On a bank-shot, I can have an effective 120" AP3 template.:eek: Also consider this, the codex does not limit the number of fire prisms that can be combined into the shot. Max Strength is 10, but you can lower the AP from 3 to 2 with the large blast with three prisms. I expect more than one eldar player, and we have the ability to combine our prisms together. It's EEEEEVIL!:evilgrin: Keep in mind that this mega battle we are planing is about 15k of nids all with sustained assault vs imperium/eldar allies/tau allies. Lots of templates will be fun! The S10 shots will also be handy when that bio-titan arrives...

23-11-2006, 18:41
Damn! lol thats tight! Just a thought, why not cast the Fire Prism parts? Then you can make more lightweight and easier to build prisms.

23-11-2006, 18:51
Casting lowers model quality. Besides, I already have the bits for two prisms. It's also illegal. "Undercutting" by buying cheap is enough for me. :)

23-11-2006, 19:27
According to GW you can cast, you can't sell. But I understand what your saying. Good luck mate!

24-11-2006, 00:15
Still debating on my method of modular vehicles. With or without the extended hull for falcons and prisms??? (BTW, notice the GS on the crystal. It took some time, but it's pretty close to flawless now.)

For those who want to do modular eldar tanks, make sure to cut off one of the beams inside the tank. The 1" disc sits on top of this and makes the upper hull not level. Heh notice the hole on the upper hull too...Casting error. It goes all the way through and messed up the small detailing on the other side. :(

24-11-2006, 00:24
I wanted to share this too. It's a partial comission I had done about six months ago. I'm not sure if I'll use it though. It was back when I had the all warp spider army. Even had spider pilots made for the tank. It looks messy, but it's actually perfectly flush and smooth with the greenstuff and plastic transition. Although it's not expensive, we decided to use real quartz for the base. :)

Got all the wraithguard stripped. Still debating on 25mm or 40mm bases though. Better think fast though. With all these events coming up, I need assembled models!

BTW, if anyone needs warp spiders I have extra now that I can't field more than three squads. I'll sell them cheap.

Just looking at ForgeWorld material. I never saw this on their New Items list. But its new to me. Pretty damn sexy too. Although the matrix is moot. A whopping 14 UK pounds per kit though. :( One kit would cover two tanks for me. Star engines would be left off my Heavies, and would be placed on my serpents if I ever decide to use that upgrade. I can't find myself buying vectored engines on a serpent. Careful though. It looks like the vectored engines won't fit on the tank if you have the extended compartment on.

24-11-2006, 01:54
God i wish i could join you in that megabattle! Sounds sweet. I would say go regular instead of modular on the tanks. And now lets see that wraithlord and wraithguard! Are you going to field the lord and guard for the megabattle?

And the wavevyper looks sweet. You should fit the nightspinner turret on it and use it.

24-11-2006, 23:29
Merry Xmas to me. :eek::D:chrome:

25-11-2006, 21:54
Hehehe Mr. Mailman arrived today with another xmas gift!

25-11-2006, 22:44
Very nice Xmas presents mate! Keep up the good work.

25-11-2006, 23:21
This model is a pain in the **** to assemble. I had to pin the head and his right hand. Boy I tell ya, that hole for a paperclip barely fit without shredding his hand and forearm.

I have some greenstuff work to do with the wraithbone transition and the wraithlord's head yet.

Hard to tell by the pict, but I added melta holes to this scenic base. It will look better once painted. :)

26-11-2006, 04:00
I'm still mourning the loss of my ability to field 60 spiders. This is what's left over of my extras. For Sale... :cries:

26-11-2006, 18:28

26-11-2006, 20:15
Here's a little concept on a display base (pond/fountain) for a falcon or wave serpent. Probably not suited for tabletop though. It's 4x4". On each 1/2x1/2" corner block, I want to add the statue bit that's included in the new dire avenger box. Roughen up the inner blocks and then add water effects. Thoughts?

26-11-2006, 20:22
Wow! I cant wait to see some paint on all these Eldar! You are making absurdly fast progress...Im impressed and envious :)

26-11-2006, 20:28
The bone singer looks awesome. Wow thats a fair amount of spiders there. How much are you sellin them for?

26-11-2006, 20:30
Thanks! At only 25 minutes per cast for my molds, I can make an obsene amount of bricks. I stick them in a dehydrator once out of the mold for about 2 hours and they are completely dry. This is faster than the standard 24-36 air dry method. Today I am adding ballast to all my models with completed scenic bases. I think the pond needs to be deeper.

As for painting, I'm new to airbrushes. I have thinner and I was going to get some dirt-cheap Apple Barrel white paint to use as my primer. Vallejo is too expensive for that. My question is what do I use to clean the brush? Alcohol and water?

26-11-2006, 20:44
Airbrushes hmm, I'm not sure, I have a ****** one but I never use it.

Looking good, although I think you might be right about the pond being to big for the table top. Are you doing any FW flyers? Maybe save it for one of them?

Not to hijack the thread, but anyone have any good ideas on how to support a flying Valkyrie? I managed to support a LS with a paperclip but I'm afrain that will not be strong enough for my two Valkyries.

26-11-2006, 20:49

Got a power drill? Go to your local hardware store and buy brass rods. I use 1/16" just for pinning. you can get them pretty thick. It's cheaper through those stores than buying brass rods through Plastruct too. Just buy a heavy duity rod that fits a U.S. standard power drill bit. You'll need a dremel and sand disc to cut rods thicker than 1/8" tho.

I also made a basic inventory of what I actually have to work on. Of course this will be constantly growing. I am still sticking with the Altansar craftworld.

26-11-2006, 21:50
Thanks for the tip I'll look into it when I order the stuff.
Your list looks good though! lol I'm looking forward to seeing more.

27-11-2006, 21:42
Here's a working progess on another warwalker base. Chance are, I will do two of these since I usually field walkers in pairs. I will hollow out the base around the tiles. Then add ballast along the tile edges. Once fully painted, I will add water effects. I am still questioning if I want the warwalker in the water or standing on the tiles though... Either way, I need to add support under the tiles before adding the ballast. You can also see I have been busy with ballast on other models in this pict. :)

27-11-2006, 21:49
Looking good Alsiaie! I wish I were at home to work on my armies, but I am working tonight, the horror!

27-11-2006, 22:00
What do you think... should I carve out both sides of the bases to make the tiles a central walk-way, or just add ballast to one end?

27-11-2006, 22:05
I think add basalt to one end, but thats just me.

28-11-2006, 00:33
Step 2 on the water base. A partial water-proof seal so the water effects won't leak out. It's ok if the GS looks messy because it'l be covered with ballast anyways. Before I do add it however, I will give the GS a coat of super glue and then finish it off with some kicker to fill any small gaps/holes. But of course before I can add the water, I have to completely paint the base first. The model too depending where he's standing.

28-11-2006, 00:37
Looking good mate, now go do it! lol

28-11-2006, 00:38
now go do it! lol

Did I ever mention I have acrylicphobia? :cries:

This will be a clean-up week. I have some final preps on some other bases along with more assembly. I have to get proper paint and more materials for the airbrush. Then I can get going!

28-11-2006, 01:02
Ahahaha! Not fair to us bro! lol Leaving us hanging like this! Just playing. It all looks good so far, so just keep up the good work!

28-11-2006, 01:32
If its a good model in the end its always worth waiting for...:D

Have faith

28-11-2006, 03:01
Ahh hah! Suspense!!! The ballast incline is hard to pick out in the picts, but the pit is till plenty deep enough for water effects.

28-11-2006, 03:53
Like your work so far. Especially the bases.

You mentioned the materials you used to cast your fabulous bases, is it very hard? Did you do all the details by hand?

28-11-2006, 04:04
Advanced casting insturctions.

Excaliber is stronger than merlin's magic, however MM still has a better rating when it comes to rubber molds. Merlin's Magic contains a mold release compound right in the mix. Pour, scrape after six minutes, 20 minutes in the mold there after before removing. Stick in a dehydrator for an hour, flip the tiles and dry again for an hour. Instant terrain. :) Don't forget the jetdry!

28-11-2006, 18:03
I'm liking your work so far, it's all very good. If the Warwalker is small enough (I have no idea how big it is :p ) then perhaps you could do it stepping out of the water onto the tiles? e.g. one leg on tile, other in water.
But again, if it's too big, it obviously won't work. If that's the case, it'll probably be best to put it on the tiles. Anyway, awesome work so far, I look forward to more progress. :)

28-11-2006, 19:43
Just a puddy test on this warwalker. I can not decide if this pose looks natural or not. I wanted him to be coming out of the water. The main body is also puddied on, so it is a little lopsided.

28-11-2006, 19:49
I hate it.

28-11-2006, 20:10
Tricky... composition-wise, the base is too back-heavy. The War Walker's also leaning too far back. A bit of snipping and greenstuffing may be needed, but try to get the model with a longer step forward so the main part is more centered over the base.

Also, Tok may be picking up some of your Warp Spiders for me. Hope to see them under the tree in a month. :D

28-11-2006, 21:51
40mm bases hands-down for wraithguard. I knew deep down inside I wanted bigger bases for scenic purposes. Even though I'm sacraficing some minor game quality purposes. Got that warwalker together too. (Facing the water this time) ;)

28-11-2006, 21:54
they look good mate!

28-11-2006, 21:59
Now the question is how to properly base those five pathfinders.... ASSEMBLY NEVER ENDS! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b243/Alsiaie/smiles/sniper.gif

28-11-2006, 23:03
Acriliphobia acriliphobia!;)

Well assembly is the road to painting unless you make never stop!;)
But that would take more money then even Deadley has!

28-11-2006, 23:08
Well... last fall/winter I sold 6000 points of older eldar. I still have leftovers plus what I'm buying now. I don't know when it will stop lol.

Things I absolutely must buy yet:

Maugan Ra
2nd banshee box
1 2006 shadowseer
autarch with fusion gun
2 more dire avenger boxes
20 more guardians
2 guardian platforms
3 weapon batteries

After that, I'll probably be set. I already have hawks and I really don't like bikes or shining spears. I think I have five or six grav tanks on sprue laying about too. Of course there's the FW dream items.

28-11-2006, 23:10
Maybe you do have more money then Deadley! No thats an impossibility!;)

28-11-2006, 23:20
Here's a little blast from the past as well. I praise the day I find some Epicast Waveserpents. I kick my own **** for passing up three unpainted on ebay many years ago.

(Left) Forge World USA 1995 reproduction of the 1989 Armorcast Eldar Tempest (now scorpion)

(Right) Original casting of an Epicast eldar falcon

28-11-2006, 23:35
How come it always seems like you have the top part of the bodies of your tanks but not the bottom?;)

Wow those are old. And you can tell how much the look of the models has changed. How were you going to paint them? They look interesting right now.

28-11-2006, 23:45
Only top parts? Actually the tempest body is only once piece. Almost all the armorcast pieces are like that. Even half my reaver titan is hollow.

(A long lost restoration project. Someday I'll reface with this new armor plating!)

28-11-2006, 23:53
Well its just that your wave-vyper was only the top part as well. I didnt know about these older tanks being one-peice body. Interesting

29-11-2006, 00:06
Ah yes the wave-viper. The comission was never completed. The main hull was finished however the second portion was not done due to my provider's personal family affairs. The engines were hollowed out and were to be filled with clear resin. This entire tank was supposed to be lit up by LEDs. This includes a complete lighted wave serpent interior, intake and outtake engine components etc. Now it is just in pieces for me to complete some day. notice that the main cockpit is on the opposite side as the standard grav tank. I had him cut out the hull and insert a falcon turret to replace the original cockpit.

29-11-2006, 02:15
I was wrong again. The only conversion i've ever done with a vyper was me and my friend cutting one apart and making this kind of drone out of it. I had lost the main cock pit cover and my eldar were derelict anyway so we decided it was vyper fun time:D

29-11-2006, 02:19
Yet another log I need to up in to say hello after such great feedback in my log.

I like what I see, and I see what I like.

Spiffing work old chap!!

29-11-2006, 02:54
looking good mate!

30-11-2006, 01:00
Just a small update. Excluding the missing ballast, I'd say 10 wraithguard look pretty damn scurry on 40mm bases. Unfortunately, I ran out of bases for the other eight wraithguard. :(

30-11-2006, 01:13
Run to the store time!;)

Your right those do look pretty scary!

04-12-2006, 00:10
Yay updates! I spent over seven hours today cleaning mold lines, assembling tanks and casting ten molds worth of bricks!

This is part of my air cavalry. I still have another falcon NIB (along with a complete serpent sprue. Not sure what I want the tank to be yet). I also have four vipers which I will rarely use.

This particular turret can hold both a prism cannon and pulsar. I can also swap the secondary gun as a ScatLaser, Suriken Cannon and Starcannon(not shown). The two spare under body gun pivots will be holding Suriken cannons as none of the shuricats are glued onto the hulls. The magnet underneath the cockpit seat on the falcon turret sticks to the magnets under the turret itself which then stick to the tank's hull. All turrets will fit on any and all tanks. I made sure all the magnet's poles were facing the same directions. Modulation is fun. :)

All the turrets are held to the tanks by earth magnets.

04-12-2006, 01:07
They look good! Now finish some more stuff for us to stare at! lol

04-12-2006, 03:23
No paint this week either. :( Mega battle is coming up for Saturday AND Sunday. We expect a good 20 some people showing up for this tyranid invasion. We also brought in a professional terrain builder to donate enough fortress/bunker scale terrain at no charge for our 8'x24' table. :eek:I have to finish assembling my remaining eldar and also help out with setting up. Not to mention piecing all my IG back together as a free-to-use army. Should be a good time!

04-12-2006, 22:41
Sounds like an awesome mega battle. well that air cavalry should scare a few nids:D Pretty awesome stuff. Keep on goin!

06-12-2006, 00:44
My final army list for the mega battle. (2000 pts) Keep in mind this table is 8x30 and has special deployment rules. This army will probably be divided in thirds. Range is the key here for fire support. With a lot of shooty IG and some SM on the table, Eldar players will be providing some good HtH support through Spiders, Avengers and harlequins. Heh honestly, I may grow fond of this list for every day use. Although I'd have to bump it down to 1850. That's easy to do though. Unfortunately, this list may require assembly. :( There are a lot of limitations as well. This includes the warp storm disruption with the tyranid invasion which will affect psykers table wide. However farseers are allowed to use powers on ALL allied armies. I decided to choose Doom x2. This affects any enemy unit on which will assist ALL friendly shooting and HtH rounds. Otherwise it's a pretty straightforward list.

After discussing this event, which I am helping to run it was also decided that super heavies may show up. The game's rules will change depending on the balance between the nid and imperial forces. We want this game to last two days and to make this fun for everyone. Random events may include an appearance of an Imperial shadowsword that I am providing, an Eldar Scorpion and some other goodies. Don't think we will need my imperial reaver titan though. There is a chance the tyranid bio-titan may hit the table as well. It's on auto-reserve regardless, but events may affect -X subractions to dice rolls for his appearance. :) I doubt I will be able to compile a complete battle report, but expect a lot of pictures after this is over. :) If I decide to drop out and just become a judge/nid coordinator, then I may be able to create a report. There will also be 1-3 2000 point games on a side table which affect long range earthshaker platforms etc. I may have to watch those.

06-12-2006, 01:42
Sounds like an impressive undertaking and an awesome battle. The list looks good though casualties could wreck it for ya.(of course they can wreck it for anybody) A totally awesome game! Cant wait on the report! Hope you win.

Have fun!(lucky:p )

07-12-2006, 02:27
Hey guess what... MORE ASSEMBLY! I indulged myself with another Dire Avenger unit. :)

07-12-2006, 02:56
They look good mate!
Glad to see your working hard!

I finally got new pictures tonight! lol But none of it is my Commission stuff which makes me sad.

07-12-2006, 03:00
Yes I see that. Man I really need to get painting so I can have an Eldar avatar. For now, I will have to settle for this eldar CGI picture. :)

07-12-2006, 03:10
Your current Avatar looks cool man! I never use my painted stuff, doesn't look great inho. But I'm sure your Eldar will look amazing, I mean hell they look good without paint, how can you go wrong with paint? lol

07-12-2006, 03:12
how can you go wrong with paint? lol

Don't make me surprise you. Or don't make me slap out picts of my first eldar tanks from years past.:chrome: Although I have them in my agenda for a future project though. As soon as I find my rubber mallet...

07-12-2006, 03:14
Haha well just take your time! lol I usually can't paint NMM worth a **** and I am doing amazing right now, I am not sure which dark god is blessing me, but perhaps selling your soul will help? haha
I'm looking forward to painted pics mate.

11-12-2006, 03:02
Hey look guys! PAINT! The airbrush worked well. A very smooth coat of black. 47 cents per 2 oz bottle of Apple Barrel paint. (equivalent to 5 bottles of citadel) I used up about 1/4 of it with these models after adding water.

11-12-2006, 20:10
Finally! Paint!:D :D

Now lets see some colors on them;)

12-12-2006, 01:12
Oooo these models look fantastic. Can't wait for a big army shot or this there one already. I can't be bothered going through 8 pages.

If so can u pls do another one.

12-12-2006, 01:54
A test subject. I decided to stay away from red. Of course these are just base colors without blending/highlights. I also want to come up with a third primary color for the neck and wraithbone stems. Still deciding.... With all the work I spent on modeling, I'm making painting simple.

12-12-2006, 02:16
Here's a neat little treat. Old eldar battle drones armed with flamers, shurikats and powerfists. Baby wraithguard. :)

12-12-2006, 02:52
Wow man you got some old awesome stuff. You should compile a "history of the eldar models range". The colors look cool and i like that your staying away from the glaring bright colors.

12-12-2006, 03:33
I'd say highlight the light blue up a to a whitish icy blue, ink the dark blue to make it darker, and add orange as the third color.

12-12-2006, 03:53
The "dark" blue is actually royal purple. (No GW equivalent.) It would be highlighted with Hexed Purple (liche) and inked with purple ink. I have to remember to convert paint names when I list them off. I own the entire vallejo game color line, so the names are a tad different than citadel. The blue was Falcon(hawk) turquoise.

On a side note, I had this insane urge to create an eldar kill team. Then it moved to kill team tables. Another item on my to-do list. An industrial kill team table. Here's a start... I can get more of this stuff for pennies. :)

12-12-2006, 04:03
Yeah... figured that was probably turquoise when I looked back at the picture. Never would have guessed the purple, though. In that case... I don't know what a good third color would be. I can see a much, much lighter turquoise working.

13-12-2006, 02:52
well I tried some colors, even orange and I can not seem to find a good third color. So I will have to settle for a little more work and go wraithbone. Layering is a pain. :( Probably 1 layer of scorched earth and 3 layers of bleached bone. Then a coat of flesh wash. Now the question is the misc parts of these models. Hoses, wires and that little vent underneath his head. I'd hate to go metallic... Definitely going orange with the gems. Highlights should be simple though.

13-12-2006, 03:31
I think this is even better. It's a color called wolf grey. (game color) It's not quite the GW equivalent to space wolf grey. Slap it on over bleached bone and it looks really nice. The colors are a tad brighter in this pict than real life. I think the original problem is that the hawk turquoise was too strong. By using two primary colors and two accent (wolf grey/black) instead of three primary colors, it makes a really good blend.

A darker picture to bring out the right color in the wolf grey.

13-12-2006, 06:10
More highlighting on the wraithguard unless its just the pic or the camera or just u :p

Keep up the hard work. Can we pls get a group shot of every mini u got there pls!

13-12-2006, 23:02
Well... I have invested a few thousand dollars into my armies so I doubt I can do that. I have over 4000 points in Tsons and about 3000 in eldar and growing. Not to mention my 150 or so IG infantry and a long lost alpha legion army. No sense in taking pictures of entire armies when they're unpainted in the case for my eldar. I do have a nice treat in store from a recent purchase which includes an outstanding forgeworld item. :) Better watch your back deadlyheadley, this may top you...

14-12-2006, 00:21
Well here's a start. Not the greatest job in the world I suppose... Still needs gems.

14-12-2006, 00:22

15-12-2006, 02:32
Lets try to redeem myself on my rush with the wraithguard. I decided to start on my unit of banshees. I'd like to finish them before moving onto another squad. They will require several coats of bleached bone to be finished. :) I want to stick with original themes on all of my aspect warriors. Craftworld colors fit in the accent areas of these models. In this case, bleached bone as my primary on banshees, green on scorpions etc etc.

These gals are smaller than the 3rd ed models. Pretty small ladies next to that wraithguard eh?

15-12-2006, 06:22
I like your color scheme! ;)

I'd probably work on thinning your paints just a touch, otherwise they look really solid. Are you using GW spray?

15-12-2006, 21:01
Looks awesome man! Great work and lets see more!

15-12-2006, 22:38
I like your color scheme! ;)

I'd probably work on thinning your paints just a touch, otherwise they look really solid. Are you using GW spray?

Apple barrel black for my base coat. It's done with a thin coat via airbrush though. The wraithguard is a tad thick due to being my test subject. There's more layers underneath than what you are aware of. I'm already adding 2:1 paint and water with the rest of my Game Color though.

17-12-2006, 00:26
Oh noes! Looks like my painting might be on hold for now. A team tournament is coming up next year that I am planning for. Those 60 warp spiders may be surfacing in the near future. :)

Actually, it's....

48 spiders
25 fire dragons
4 falcons
40 dire avengers
1 wave serpent
4 autarchs with jump generator and fusion gun
10 rangers
24 guardians/2 EML platforms

It's a 4000 point team. "Fires of the Warp." Maybe....

17-12-2006, 03:56
Dude, no offense, but you have 7k points of models and you use APPLEBARREL paints?!

Anyways, I want to see those little wraith construct guys painted up...what are you going to use em as?

17-12-2006, 04:41
airbrushes waste a lot of paint. Why spend a fortune on vallejo for black primer? Crap thing is that work is picking up. Looking at 50 hour weeks if not more. Overtime will fund this hobby though.

I only use these paints with my brushes. :)

Anyways, I want to see those little wraith construct guys painted up...what are you going to use em as?

You must mean the battle drones. They will probably be base accessories for models on 60mm bases.

With the team tournament coming up, me and another player will be combining our eldar forces. Chances are, a third team member and I will have a good number of paint-a-thons to get these models done. Not to mention the display table..

22-12-2006, 01:09
Change in plans. Looking over all these eldar projects, I noticed that almost everyone is doing blue and purple. blah blah blah. Let's change this up a bit. So far, I'm growing quite fond of Il-Kaithe colors. He still has a long way to go, but I think these colors are here to stay.

22-12-2006, 02:11
He's looking much better! I wasn't much of a fan of the blue and purple, but this is growing on me! Keep up the good work!

22-12-2006, 20:15
Decided on a tabard color. :)

An inverted shadow attempt.

22-12-2006, 21:29
I like the changes and the freehand on the helmet looks especially awesome.

22-12-2006, 22:41
The model itself is pretty much done. Now to the base...(And the dreaded 47 some odd gems.:() I'm quite fond on how the tubing worked out. I wanted to replicate warp energy by mixing colors together. In this case a 3:1 white:ice blue mix as a base coat. Added purple ink and then dry brushed with white.

22-12-2006, 23:15
Ive wanted to see someone do this craftworld for a while, ever since I saw it in DoW!

I dig the flame thing :D

22-12-2006, 23:32
Cool thanks! It's a lot of work with these colors, but I think it looks really nice. I'm not that good at painting due to my lack of patience. All the colors are highlighted using white mixed with their respective colors, but poor lighting and far camera angles doesn't pick it up very well.

By the way, I just remembered the term I was looking for earlier. It's a newer method used on car paint. "Ghost Flames." Inverted shadows sounds absolutely retarded.

24-12-2006, 20:35
A hawk squadron of seven. I've had these guys forever but I'm missing the exarch. (empty front tile). I still need to weather up the tiles. By doing this, I have also abandoned the tile pattern with that one dire avenger squad. They will be removed and be placed on standard bases.

24-12-2006, 21:15
You must mean the battle drones. They will probably be base accessories for models on 60mm bases.

They've got shooty things in their faces, and claws, and sneaky poses ... why not count them as Striking Scorpions?

25-12-2006, 05:17
Thanks to santa, I have upgraded my original Dremel MultiPro from many many years back to the new Dremel XPR 400 model. Top of the line :)

They've got shooty things in their faces, and claws, and sneaky poses ... why not count them as Striking Scorpions?

There may be a kill team in the near future. :)

25-12-2006, 06:27
I really like your hawks, mine are going to be mounted in the air like that too :)

Well, my exarch already is...

Love those tiles.

25-12-2006, 06:28
Hey thanks! Now buy my steel legion Frost. You know you want to. It's about 150 infantry men waiting to be shipped....mmmm... I need $240 in more hirst molds so I can make those kill-team tables.

25-12-2006, 06:30
looking good, but go back to Imp Guard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
I will be keeping an eye on this as i really love your bases! you should sell them on the net and make some decent money.

BTW those swooping hawks look fething awesome when they are put together like that! also finish that pond i really wanted to see what it would come out like and maybe put a falcon over it or something, i think someone mentioned FW flyers....

25-12-2006, 06:34
i think someone mentioned FW flyers....

Shh... don't give away my surprise yet.

The tiles are pretty simple. It all comes from Hirst Arts Molds. Getting them to turn out is a learning curve, but anyone can do it. Just follow the steps on the advanced casting instructions. I spent a a few hours watching videos and reading almost every page on his site on how to cast properly. Just don't use plaster of paris...

25-12-2006, 07:02

Im seriously tempted! I dont know if I need the entire lot, but if you only want to sell it that way, I suppose I can trade/ebay off what I dont need :)

You should cast up and sell a bunch of those bases, I bet you could do pretty well with em.

25-12-2006, 07:11
I just want to share this other guy's project log. VERY impressive fortress made of just hirst molds for a 40k black templar army.

http://p068.ezboard.com/Chapter-Keep-Lamernius-pic-heavy/fhirstartspostyourownpictureshere.showMessage?topi cID=2050.topic

I actually want to order the entire interior si-fi set so I can make modular kill team and space hulk boards. They could also be combined with the IA IV anphelion terrain rules.

25-12-2006, 07:19
Well, work out a price for those SL and perhaps I can finance your next project! ;)

25-12-2006, 07:23
Do you also want to fund my Adepticon trip?... Lets see... $125 for my own tickets and hotel... about $350 in additional minis for our team respectively... yay!

25-12-2006, 07:25
Ive never been to a convention other that gamesday before, or played in a RT or grand tourney.

I assume adepticon is sweet?

25-12-2006, 07:30
Adepticon is run by the IL Adeptus Windy City Community. Red shirts play and watch, but GW is no way affiliated on how the tournaments are run. This is a place run by gamers for gamers. It even has it's own 40k FAQ written by the gaming community and forum members. The three day event even includes golden daemon award equivalents.

Events include but not limited to

Warhammer escalation
WH40k gladiator (mean!)
WH40k 4v4 team tourny
WH40k championships
BFG championships
Painting/modeling seminars.

Some pictures durring Adepticon 2006.

25-12-2006, 07:36
Wow, that looks like a lot of fun...Maybe one day Ill make my way up there.

Im off to bed, have a merry xmas/holiday!

25-12-2006, 22:55
All right guys... I keep getting requests to see that fountain base. To stop you all from bugging me, I have started it's construction.:chrome: The plastic card area is 7"x7". There isn't much I can do after these steps. I need to pick up a pre-cut hardboard piece to put underneath. Then I have to add the ballast. At least it's a start. I may raise up the farseer statue a bit.

25-12-2006, 23:03
Ah, the old farseer model. Classic.

25-12-2006, 23:22
Yes, taller is better. Now I need to cast more bricks. This thing was pretty extensive on the supply.

42 1x1
11 1/2x1
2 1/2x1/2
6 3/4x1/2

28-12-2006, 23:25
And the biggest project of all.......

As you can see, this is used. It needs a tad TLC but otherwise the model is in very good condition and is already stripped. It was a steal anyways. Retail, The Vampire Hunter is $440 shipped. I got this, three shining spears and a shining spear exarch for $230 shipped. This baby was literally under half retail cost!

28-12-2006, 23:42
Could you get us a shot of that interior detail Alsiaie? Never seen that and it looks well funky

28-12-2006, 23:52
I really don't care much about the interior. The wings are sooo heavy that they have to be held on by O-rings and thin nails. Best I could do is keep the top armor plate loose. Good 'ol FW casting quality. The metal rod is there to keep the side hulls from snapping in half by the weight of the wings.

28-12-2006, 23:58
The swooping hawks and fountain are looking great. But man that vampire is going to be sooo sweet. Nice deal on it too.

30-12-2006, 05:18
Holy @)(&Q@$ that is awesome!

30-12-2006, 22:53
Unfortunately, I am so busy with work lol. In the last six days (Sunday included) I have 64 hours scheduled for work. Thankfully I should be starting a new job with second shift which is great for my internal clock so to speak. But over time of course funds this project. Perhaps in a week I can begin painting when I found out what a weekend is again.

On a side note, any kill team or space hulk projects will probably be on hold until after Adepticon. I also have to get you that quote for the IG too fearfrost. :) At least I have about 75% of my primary models primed!

31-12-2006, 01:39
Yay paint! Don't forget, all my aspects are retaining their original color forms with accent colors being craftworld colors.

Hawk turquoise basecoat
3:2 HT:white maincoat
3:1 HT:black (lowlights)
3:1.5-2 White:HT (highlights)

31-12-2006, 04:36
We now have proof that you dont have acrilphobia! The hawks look sweet man. Love the turqouise(i know i spelled that wrong but i'm too lazy to figure out how to spell it.)

31-12-2006, 05:38
I also have to get you that quote for the IG too fearfrost. :)

Nice work on the hawks, what's the plan with the stalks? Black?

31-12-2006, 22:25

Nice work on the hawks, what's the plan with the stalks? Black?

I do not know. I could go the route I did with my Tzeentch lord on disc. I would blend the rod starting with the color of the tile to hawk turquoise. When in tile to tile formation and looked an average 45 degree angle, (eyes to tabletop) the rods will become less visible.

01-01-2007, 00:03
Wow, thats not a bad idea. I never thought of that.

I might have an update on my eldar blog tonight, assuming 6 dos equis wont render me incapable ;)

Happy (almost) new year, dude.

01-01-2007, 00:10
Lucky for me, I made the choice years ago to not consume alcohol. At least with these hellish work hours over with, I can get some work done.

01-01-2007, 01:04
Not a bad choice :D

Post your progress, Im working on my falcon/prism as we speak.

01-01-2007, 03:01
Post your progress,

OK. Got plenty of more layering to do though. I havn't even applied all the colors yet heheh. Still debating what colors to paint the grenades though.

01-01-2007, 03:31
I like the green wings especially. The bone looks like it could use something, maybe a little shade with snakebite leather or something (I know they are WIP though)

01-01-2007, 03:35
The bone will end up looking something like this. http://warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1166419&postcount=175 I'm not a really big fan of bleached bone. I'm using khaki (GW commando khaki EQ) as it's replacement. With a little flesh wash and highlights, it has a nice tone. Heh.. I think I'm going to be moving gemstones to their very own WIP project.

01-01-2007, 19:27
Just a minor update. The bone is starting to look a little more normal. As I did on the wraithguard, robes and cloaks are enchanted blue.

01-01-2007, 20:47
Looking good, just make sure to touch up the spot where you got blue on the purple.

01-01-2007, 20:59
Yeah indeed. The helmets actually need another coat of purple all together. I had about 2 parts water and one part paint to see how it would look.

I also do not know what do to about the eye area bewteen the mask and helmet. If you have not figured it out already, the wings will be the duo-tone green like I did on the wraithguard. I am thinking about using the brighter green for this head area too...??

Also, ahhh the wonders of fleshwash.

01-01-2007, 21:08
Nice! I like the way the bone came out. Maybe do the eyes in that green?

01-01-2007, 21:16
If there are any experts on stone out there, I'm looking on suggestions for the bases. I have every citadel equivalent color on the market and even oop colors. As for the patterns on the tile, I was thinking a faded drybrush of real color might make them stand out. You know like ancient weathered stone art.

Hands - Black?

Grenades - tinbitz to go with what I'll use on the remainder of the lasblasters?

Can't forget the purple ghost flames. :)

01-01-2007, 21:16
Looking good!

Well do you want brown colors or grey?

01-01-2007, 21:39
Important update.

I have sad news. My IG project has been abandoned. I have sold all my infantry to my fellow Eldar counterpart fearfrost. But that doesn't mean I won't do IG. I have kept all my vehicles. I may do FW drop troops later in 2007.

01-01-2007, 21:45
Thats a shame, but atleast your looking to the future!

01-01-2007, 23:05
For the designs on the on the tiles maybe a light drybrushing of blood to hint that something has happened there before....

For the stone maybe start with a dark grey then do just spots of dry brushing a lighter grey.

Looks great man!

01-01-2007, 23:22
Hehe, I dont think its that sad ;)

Im not sure about the tin bitz...try it on one and see if you like it before you get you heart set on it :)

02-01-2007, 00:27
Started to work on the wings and other areas. I didnt like how tin bitz worked, so I used hammered copper. (Vallejo EQ to the OOP citadel beaten copper.) It's got a red tint to it which I think turned out rather well. For the energy areas, it's simply lightning blue with purple ink. I also applied this to the tubing on the lasblaster and the tubing on the helmets. I will go back and drybrush these areas with a mix of lightning blue and white. The wings will need another coat to finish them as well. As for the eye area, I just decided to keep it purple. Still looking for opinions on colors for those grenades...Break time...

02-01-2007, 01:57
Looking good. Maybe just black for the nade packs?

02-01-2007, 02:52
Looks good mate! For stone do Shadow Grey and drybrush on Codex Grey. Works fairly well and is simple.

03-01-2007, 05:10
Well I guess this is done as they're going to get. Still have to buy that exarch...

Seem to be having a camera brainfart. This is a little better as lighting is concerned.

03-01-2007, 05:19
Looking good mate! Keep it up!

03-01-2007, 05:22
I had somebody ask me about bases. Maybe I'll drybrush blood on them later or something.

03-01-2007, 05:32
I think what would be cool would be if you did something to make it appear like there was power going through it.

03-01-2007, 05:33
Looking pretty good man, I like the end result a lot.

The bases would pop a bit more if maybe you did a wash of a dark grey over them? It would fill those recesses and make that detail stand out a bit more. You could drybrush over em, after.

03-01-2007, 05:40
Yeah I'm currently working on that. I have this bottle of Vallejo Smokey Ink. It's an interesting bottle. Inks and washes often dry glossy. (flesh wash is very well known to do this). This smokey ink is literally like mixing black and brown paint together. Not sure if this is what I'm going for though.

03-01-2007, 05:44
It does look good though!

03-01-2007, 05:56
Try to darken the wash up and concentrate it in those recessed areas of the base.

03-01-2007, 06:05
This ink is very potent. Before applying it, I made my own wash with a darker grey first. Then about a 10:1 water:ink mix as a general wash. A very potent mix for the cracks. This might work. After drying, I did a light drybrush over everything with the grey.

03-01-2007, 06:13
I like that a lot better!

03-01-2007, 06:16
Still a little strong. I add a little heavier dry brush, but I'm sick uploading pictures.

03-01-2007, 06:27
Hehe, well I like the way they are going.

03-01-2007, 19:23
Just playing around with color placements for my tanks. I should be able to use my airbrush to at least basecoat them all with the darker green. These things are really going to stand out on the table top.. good thing? Who knows. Not sure which is better.

On a side note, with so much CRAP laying around I'm playing around with an eldar "weenie" army. It's basiaclly vipers, war walkers and a ton of low armored infantry led by an avatar. No grav tanks. We will see.....

03-01-2007, 21:21
Hehehe success. Airbrush for the win! I'll go over them again with a regular brush as a final coat. At least this way I wont have to coat them four times by hand!

03-01-2007, 21:25
Looking good man! Keep working!

04-01-2007, 00:26
These hawks are officially finished. Six models down, about 100 more to go! So I go to a local hobby store to pick up an exarch. Plenty left. OMG their charge machine is out of order. So I went back home empty handed since I had no cash on me. :(

04-01-2007, 00:27
Shame, atleast the unit is finished for the most part. Don't worry mate, you'll have that exarch soon!

04-01-2007, 03:23
This lime green is a pain in the ass. 5 coats and it's still not solid. But then again I'm using a lot of water to keep it smooooth. Oh well. I did decide on a correct pattern from those photoshopped picts.

04-01-2007, 03:33
Looking good man!

04-01-2007, 20:37
Now this is starting to look like a falcon!

04-01-2007, 21:09
Nice! Im really stoked that your Il Kaithe are coming along this fast!

04-01-2007, 21:15
I am and not. I'm in between jobs. Just waiting now to hear from a few place so I can start work again. Painting instead of making money. What a paradox!

04-01-2007, 21:22
i have to say your idea for bases is very impressive, i wish my own were as good

the tank is looking much better now, i had a similar problem when painting m,y first eldar tank (due to me choosing to do them warlock purple :P) i think a little blacklining with a pen on the recesses and jobs a gud 'un ;)

keep up the good work,

06-01-2007, 04:30
Yay exarch! Of course every exarch must have a "special" scenic base. Found a culexus head in my bitz box. :)

06-01-2007, 04:51
Yum mate! Looking good!!

I converted my leman russ, it looks pretty cool. Hope you update again soon!

07-01-2007, 00:08
Quick update. I am participating in another campaign. This time with my eldar. I also convinced the other members of our Adepticon team to use my paint scheme for the 4000 pt army. This will greatly reduce overall cost. We just need to pick up a few units now. This will also give me an excuse to paint. The campaign is another incentive for the players here to pick up their paint brushes. There are modifiers and even very evil strategy cards that will affect unpainted models. (used once per campaign) I managed to draw the virus bomb which is a real btich against unpainted stuff. :) This is not a campaign for sissies. It it heavily based for chaos vs imperium and it's not easy cakewalk for anyone. Glance through the rules and you'll find out.

A progress of the campaign can be found here as well. When this is updated later, look for the pink blips on the map as my locations. :)

We all start at 1000 points, but based on deployment and free moves to empty nodes, I'm at 1285 points. (highest over everyone else) I have also bagged a decent force org chart over some other players. Unfortunately, I will be packing away my grav tanks for this campaign. I won't be getting many nodes that will enable me extra heavy support choices. :( But on a good note, almost every player is either CSM or SM. Without falcons, I can still dominate MEQ if I play it smart.

1 HQ
2-3+2 Troops (unlimited transports enabled)
1+1 Elite
1+1 Fast
1 Heavy (monstrous creatures enabled)

08-01-2007, 00:42
Input time! Banner or no banner for this eldar guardian unit leader? I don't want it to be too busy.
