Great stuff as always mate, the ork conversion is simple yet very effective. The camo pattern is very striking, would make great nobs or commandos in a blood axe force.
The nids, as always are some of the best I've seen, I can see why they won best army as again they are very striking and must definitely stand out from the crowd!
Looking forward to more krieg, your stuff almost had me tempted to do the flecktarn thing on my DKoK quartermaster's trousers and cloak!
Cheers,
Dante
As always Mr Sheep parries our demands for updates with devastating effect :p
Really like that Ork, the camo scheme looks really good! All the latest stuff is looking sweet, good stuff mate!

fantastic work I haven't had the chance to examine all 51 pages but the work that i've seen has been really impressive. The DKoK's autumn camo is especailly exemplary and very unique, keep it up

Everything is just spectacular. Quite an original ork too. Can't wait to see the krieg all painted up!
Very nice Death Korps and Tyranids! I really like the carpaces on the warriors. And those DKoK's look like they've been through a battle or two!
fantasic autumnal dkok, characterful, detailed, unique and inspiring.
also, having gone through this entire thread could i revert back to the white coat version, and ask how you achieved that, if you can remember that far back?
Love the ork, very unique color scheme also. Actually, love it all, orks teeth are greatly detailed too, and great attention getters :)
What happend to the lego monstrosity sheep?....any progress on the half track?

Sheep: I love your work mate! Its amazing! Especially the IMperial Fists - and the DKoK autumnal pattern. Could you PM me a guide how to do it? Its an awesome scheme and I'd like to try and emulate it...
Anyway- awesome work! I like the colour choice for the plasma weaponry. Although, I happened to notice that people only ocmplained about the runic S when you put it on your DKoK, not on your earlier Cadians...

I hinted that he should watch out for bad reactions because of the multiple things reminding of germans, in this case, ss-autumn-camo, german stahlhelmet and black helmets, it was the all combination that promted me to hint, i wasn't saying he was completely off or something, and regarding the Cadians, i havent really noticed them as much, because their basic look is not gemanized... therefore less offensive in and by itself.
(this would/ should include the commisars in general as well and some more little details that GW itself has done on the miniatures, and is not the fault of any modellers... but lets not get in to that debate  )
Yes Sheep, continue the Camo sceme and let us see a grand armee in that style, it will be cool regardless..:D

I agree - it will be cool regardless. Though I don't see whats wrong with the camo...its just reminding me of the German Army Camo pattern...and I view the German Army as a superior military force to the Allied forces, as they were the military force of Germany, not the party in power, so will not refer to them as Nazis :) innocent soldiers. Though I also agree with you about not getting into that debate here, its not the right place.
Though I think the way you've done these sheep, is awesome, and I looked back and found a tutorial. Awesome stuff :D

Actually, that particular pattern infantry based was SS only, that's why it started a debate, because of that combined with the fact that a single runic s from the "Hitler Jugend" was also on it. :)

Well, the current German army does use a type of camo that is nearly similar, and the Netherlands infantry were for a short while testing this camo to for use, (along with one or 2 other armies) but they decided it looked to much like the SS scheme and opted not to use it in the end.

Jacka,
In no way/ shape/ form was i trying to glorify/ justify my point, i was merely explaining what was discussed to this reader/ poster who missed certain bits of the discussion (as it seemed).
Get your facts straight please, and don't judge me for just explaining.
On another note, i bought and tried some Marmite, and lo and behold, i think the taste is Horrible :D, but i might just end up using it for modelling purposes

10-12-2008, 09:00
Rhaivaen at least discuss your eating habits in your own thread this is a modelling forum not random musings. 3 posts aout marmite's a bit unnecessary in someone elses thread...
Sheep I love the Kreig, it is nice to see some variations on the DKoK models. Im a fan of alternate schemes for these minis such as yours and some of the steel legion paint jobs I've seen on other threads. I think that the pattern's extremely well done and prefer yours to the steel legion ones. I think the little touches are great, if some people find them contreversial then that might just make them look closer at the actual models and appreciate the detail youve put into them. You cant please everyone, some people are always going to be sensitive to historical symbols and others not. Just keep doing what you like and keep up the great work.

It wasn't Rhaivaen who mentioned the SS, it was me and not in a negative way either. I was just interested as to how this evolution of an idea came to be. And for the record, if anyone was being zealous about bringing up anything, they'd mention that forum member "Shield and Key" uses the insignia of the 1st SS Division Leibstandarte; Adolf Hitler as a avatar. A unit which commited massive list of war crimes....
Jesus guys, it thought this issue was dead and buried. Yes they look like SS, i like it, and i'm glad most of you do too, if you don't, i'm sorry.
On to the update . . unfortunatly i've been buried at work, literally, i had a wheel barrow of dirt fall over on me :) So i haven't managed to get any work done, hopefully i'll get some done in the next couple of days though.

I'm sure a lot of people will be using that one :-)
I reckon that the Nebelwerfer would make a great heavy mortar.
The camo on those DK looks fantastic too. It';s a wonderful and quite unique scheme that set's them apart from the others.
That "Neb" looks like it's from the Chaos Rhino variants.
Can you confirm or deny this?

Thanks guys, glad you all like the Neb conversion, I really like the idea of it as a mortar, esp as i hope to have 6 of them :D
And Faolan, it's the havoc launcher from the chaos vehicle sprue just like you surmised, the carriage is an IG dozer blade frame, and the wheel are thinned IG road wheels with Plasticard added to the outside.

Unless it's just a roman "1". And yes, X=10.
Edit- yup, they're both numbers. Some of the other squads have "II", so it's probably squad or platoon identification.

Woot! Finally got to the end of the thread. Took me two days and I think one of my eyes has stopped functioning. Meh, I've got two.
What to say, where to start?
Nice cammo pattern. Liked the conversions on the cadian force right at the start. Particularly liked the prone lascannon team - think I'll have to have a go at doing one of those in the not too distant future. Can't believe that you painted over that exterminator and its lovely cammo pattern with freehand aces only to decide that you wanted to keep that cammo pattern after all. Think I'd have either cried, soiled myself or both in your shoes (well probably not actually in your shoes obviously - I'm not close enough to pull it off for a start).
I really liked the warhound. I quite liked the wrecked leman russ/chimera conversion on its base too. :D Thats been something of a theme with everything on here actually - I'm most impressed with the quality of the basing of your models (and the painting standard obviously).
Glad that you found a suitable use for vegemite (it is after all just a pale imitation of the real deal that is marmite ;) ).
Look forward to seeing the paint job on your two new tyranids - they really are very nice models.
PS - cheers to whoever put the link up for the ambush cammo pattern. I've been trying to come up with a cammo pattern for my tanks that'll fit with my conventional paint schemed cadians that isn't the conventional cadian tank cammo pattern. Think that scheme should do nicely.
Glad you enjoyed it that much mate, and thanks for the graphic excitment and commiserasions (sp).
I've almost finished the 'dule, i'll put pics up as soon as possible.

Hey Sheep, I looked back a page, I have to say, I really like the black and red scheme better than the finished product.
Obviously, the finished product looks far better, but, meh, just my opinion.
Still, they look outstanding (considering they need to be hit with cans of Bug-B-Gone)!

That is some fantastic painting! I like how the brownish shading in the the reds ties them to your bases. Looks very natural somehow... nice touch.
My only (very minor) nitpick is that the Trygon's base is much less interesting than the Hyrodule's.
Great stuff!

The next LT will have a power fist, other then that i have no idea about characters yet, i have a high command, and its a great model but it just doesn't scream field commander to me.
Cheers
Sheep
I find that armies like the DKoK can be difficult to make really striking characters on foot due to the fact that little personality can be shown as they all wear large coats and masks.
I think the way to really define the characters would be to do something pretty special with the mask itself and the headgear, kind of merging the commander model with the quartermaster but with a little more intricate mask?
Cheers,
Dante
Didn't think of using the quarter master, good call.

Goddamnit sheep, looking fantastic mate. The camouflage you're using is a brilliant colour scheme, and looks really effective en mass. Using the quartermaster as a character is a good idea, Dante is onto something there for sure.

I have trouble coming up with a decent night fighting camo, and am not sure which way to go.

and

have some interesting variants but:

so does this camo scheme..
and i am at a loss of what to paint my tanks in the same vain..
Any thoughts?

Thankyou, the rust is pretty easy; over the finished paint job of the equipment:
watered down Devlan mud
Beastial brown wash
and then watered down solar macharius orange
Hope that helps

No offense mate, i agree they do lack equipment, but if i was running around with a battery the size of a toddler on my back i think i'd try and limit the amout of equipment i was lugging around too :D
Plus in the list they are mounted, so could leave any non essenstial equipment in their chimera.

That's what, like 300 points? No wonder you ordered THREE battletanks, I would go mad at the prospect of doing such quality paintjobs on more than 50 figs ;D

This just keeps getting better and better, Sheep!
I'm looking forward to these tanks as well, as I'm thinking of getting some myself.
Just have to wait for you to paint some up, so I can cry and realize I'll never be able to make them look the same.
Thanks alot you jerk!:)

This army is a piece of art. The colours of the senior officer helmet is on It's own a piece of art to me. This army has something pictural. By the way, how did you paint the pectoral armor and the helmet of the officer? I'm very interested by the texture.
Actually for FW, just call 'em Sheep. I know it means staying up one night, but, sigh, such is life in Aus, eh?
Oh yes mate, did you see this?
http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com/2009/02/40k-rumors-imperial-guard-vehicle.html
I hadn't seen that til you posted it, thankyou :D
If i don't get a reply to my email, i'll call them.

Lol, its actually 500ish ;) and i'm not saving myself much time i don't think, i want to do a really good job on these tanks.

I'll look forward to see your tanks as well mate, i really like your tank scheme, and the mach you did looked fantastic.

The texture is mostly in the cast of the model, i painted the chest armour Chainmail silver, then gave it a heavy wash with slightly watered down devlan wash. Then i blended chainmail on the high points, leaving the recesses dark, then gryphonne sepina wash, and highlight chainmail again.
Hope that helps.

always an inspirational thread your white scheme on the death korps was what inspired me to do my dk in a winter scheme
Glad you both liked it :)
Heres a display base I made for the HQ for a competition on the Ammobunker.

Those the Tamiya/Testors/Italeri brick walls on the back, Sheep?
They look great on a display base. Red brick would be a good way to add colour to a cityfight table too.
Thanks guys,
Faolan: yeah the tamyia ones :)

Curious to see it finished. That's the german ambush camo pattern isn't?
It is, i did it without the spots though. They were too hard to do with the airbrush and ruined the model :(

Sheep, I've lurked this thread for a long time but finally got around to setting up an account. I love your models, they're just gorgeous; subscribing to this thread will be a welcome pleasure.
However, I do have a quick question. What are you using for the leaves on your bases? I'm sure it's lost in the pages somewhere but please indulge me~
No worries mate, glad you made the jump :D
They're birch seeds, i bought them from a model train shop years ago, so i can't tell you the suppliers name unfortunatly. But they should be easy to find online at scale modeling sites.

Ooh, a Predmera, very nice.

I really like how that Chimera is looking!
Can't wait to see it finished!
Oh, reading your past comments Sheep..
To do the spots, either the brush by hand, or use a 3x5 card with a few holes of the right size poked in it as mobile mask.

Sorry to hijack your thread somewhat sheep (and for a highly subjective question at that) but do you think the dots really add to the cammo pattern or is it better without?
Thinking of using the same scheme is all.
Faolan, good idea, ta
Toe cutter, that is a pretty subjective question, on a tank of this scale i'd say its just a waste of time.

Well, had alot of rain today, which meant no work, so i sat around the house and did this.

Since the pics were taken, i added some more dirt too the tracks.
Couldn't find MIG pigments, so i used artists pastel chalk, just like most people did before MIG pigments :D
Let me know what you think of the scheme, just have to finish the tank commander.
Cheers
Sheep
That chimera is truely a treat for the eyes.
That chimera is looking absolutely perfect mate!
The weathering is great (despite your lack of MIG pigments, you poor man ;) ). In the MIG dvd I have they warned against using regular artists pastels and chalks because they aren't "pure" pigment. There's alot of crap in the mix that is used to hold it together in stick form etc.
It's probably just spin to push the product more but I can see it being at least half true. That said, regular chalks and pastels still do a more than adequate job.
Glad to see the tanks live up to the continuingly exceptional quality I expect of all your work you show here mate!
Cheers,
Dante
awesome chimera sheep...best part the turret and the dozer blade...can we some pictures with krieg standing next to it?
Bit of rubbing alcohol to make the pigment easily "paintable" also takes out most of the impurities and helps act as a glue when it's down, interestingly enough. Or so says the GD winner who works in the shop here in town, and I trust the man, he's bloody brilliant.
I say Sheep, you rate "Nearly Heath" status!
We're going to have a chat about that old style dozer blade my friend, even if it costs me money.
Thanks guys :D Happy with how this one turned out.
Dante: you'll make me blush :)
Dio'ra: I'll get one of those for you, as soon as the commander is done.
Heres something else i finished today too, painted for the Ammobunkers get together in april, i have a couple mor brilliant FW models to paint too, but i'll only be able to show you after the bash :(

Love the attention to detail that you have bestowed on the Chimera mate, especially the little touch of adding the Imperial Eagle to the stowage on the back. Not sure what it is but just sets the tone nicely. Also like the receased sides, wish I had done that with my now, oh well. Really good job overall.
Like the preacher too, and looking forward to waht you have in store for us after the april get togeather mate.

Thanks for the feedback Sheep. I like the tank. Think the contrast between the dark grimy cammo pattern and the light stowage/tarpaulins is particularly nice.
Lo9vely work on both of those, old boy!
Teach me how to paint flesh, man. It's my major failing as a modeller, besides not mastering wet blending.
Lovely tank matey, looks very realistic apart from where the smoke launcher is placed, lol.

I feel unworthy of pointing this out, but the smoke launcher looks a little lopsided [the bottom one looks like it would discharge into the hull].
Absolutely brilliant painting, and that turret looks good on the chimera chassis. I always worried it would look too big, but you've nailed it.
Hi Sheep!
Recently met one of your cousins on holiday in the Lake District...I told him I would post his picture in your thread and say Hi...
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x209/14177L/James/1stAnniversary009.jpg
Loving your work with the Chimera - very awesome. I think I like the nurgle priest better though...Its a superb model from Forgeworld and you really have done it justice - just looking at it makes me feel dirty!
I also like how you have done the rust effects on the base of the model, almost like he is corrupting and decaying everything he touches - inspired stuff!
Looking forward to seeing more - Subscribed!!!
