I say Sheep, you rate "Nearly Heath" status!
We're going to have a chat about that old style dozer blade my friend, even if it costs me money.
Sheep,
Have to agree with Faolan here! I seen much of Heath's work! And your DKoK would stand up to it very well.
really nice paint job on that chimera. great weathering

Incredible, Sheep! Thats an APC any Guardsman would be proud to ride in!
Thanks for all the great comments guys.
Teach me how to paint flesh, man. It's my major failing as a modeller, besides not mastering wet blending.
I can't wet blend to save my life either :(
Theres two schools of thought on flesh. One it glazing up from a white, or light undercoat, the other is more traditional. I did the glazing technique on this guy, as i think it helped get the diseased look across better.
theres a whole bunch of techniques here (http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/177496/1/#new)
Hi Sheep!
Recently met one of your cousins on holiday in the Lake District...I told him I would post his picture in your thread and say Hi...
*lol pic*
Loving your work with the Chimera - very awesome. I think I like the nurgle priest better though...Its a superb model from Forgeworld and you really have done it justice - just looking at it makes me feel dirty!
I also like how you have done the rust effects on the base of the model, almost like he is corrupting and decaying everything he touches - inspired stuff!
Looking forward to seeing more - Subscribed!!!

Thanks for the family reunion mate, thats one of the funniest looking sheep i've ever seen :D

Bragger! :D I won a Daemon too. :cries: No I didn't! Hmmm! Remember when we used to have Games Days in Sydney! To bad they cut them out! I used to like looking at all the Daemon entries! Oh I recommend Humbrol Flesh for Hummies. You don't have to do much with it at all.
If you've got it flaunt it :D
I remember those days, the last one i went to tau were released, was always good to hang around til the end and talk to the guys that worked there, Dave taylor was the WD editor at the time, really good bloke to have a chat to.

Wow, great looking armies and amazing painting! I like the camouflage on your army. The chimera looks very nice, I like how you cut down the side bulks that stick out and heavy bolter. What color green did you use on it?
You shoulda kept the stock mantlet and autocannon on there, Sheepy ;)

The Chimera looks awesome. Im going to be starting a Death Korps army hopefully soon. I was torn between the ambush scheme from the German's of WW2 or a solid colour of green/Khaki for my tanks but I wasnt sure how it would work out!! But you have convinced me that the ambush scheme is the way to go.
And just another little question. How long did it take to get the fw minitures over here?
And just another little question. How long did it take to get the fw minitures over here?
Takes anywhere from five days to upto ten weeks, depnds on what they have in stock and whether they need to cast up stuff. just recently I had parts missing from my titan, e-mailed hten monday, the parts arrived in my mailbox friday, so pretty quick turn around.
Back on topic, can't wait to see some more tanks with this scheme on it Sheep, and please do a tute on the camo netting when you do it (really wanting that on my guys as well :).

Sheep,
Excellent as always. They look great. :D Only thing I don't like is the Las-gun removal.:eyebrows: I know I'm a Purist, but if they are removed then I feel that the Gun slots should be closed flush to the hull. Maybe its how you have painted them black rather then staying with the colour scheme of the vehicle that throws me.
Thanks jacka, we'll have to agree to disagree then, because i can't stand the stupid things, they don't even look like las guns, they look like a collection of aerials on top of unit of flats.

Thats for the tut link. Im going to try that very shortly. That idea of converting the fuel for the hellhounds inferno cannon to the back of the turret is a great idea. Im currently working on converting a chimera like Bungaroo's and thought the hellhound would look wierd among the converted chimeras with its turret so far forward compared to the chimeras. Thanks for the idea. Hope you dont mind me using it!!
I agree with leaving the Las' off, but I think I'd have had to put in some hardened tissue (or GS for those with more skills than I) of a canvas-like cover over the holes.

Ok Mr Sheep, I just spent the last part of a couple of hours reading through this log. I'd dipped into it before, but never been through the whole thing. All I can say is "wow". I love the Nids and really love the DKoK. The camo scheme works really well, and when combined with the scheme on the tanks and the weathering, your minis look amazing. Really like the Predator turrets on the recent Chimera/Hellhound too.

Top notch tanks! Nothing really drastic was done with them bitz-wise, which keeps them looking functionally realistic(which is a really, really good thing), and they are simple enough that anybody could build them. The the paint is surely what brings them to life though(not everybody can do that;)). Better still, you could field those flamer armed Chimeras as either Chimeras with heavy flamer turrets or as Hellhounds. Its always nice to build in options for yourself.
Seeing stuff like this really makes me consider keeping a small detachment of IG rather than getting rid of them altogether. Curse you Sheep! :D

Had a play about with the Autumnal Camo this weekend on a practice model.
Its quite interesting seeing the effect... my devlan is heavy so its come out very dark on the orks... also, interestingly, i dont think it works as well as on the krieg, as simply you have larger surface areas to achieve the effect.
I'm going to try and do a squad in the colours, and ill post pics on my blog, and maybe ninja yours with a piccie too...

Heres a quick ****** pic
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Death%20Korps%20of%20Krieg/Chimeraturret.jpg
First you have to file the inside of the hole in the bottom of the pred turret to get it to fit on the chimera's turret ring. Clip the bottom plate of the chimera's turret til it fits in the hole of the pred turret.
Once that was done, I glued a piece of plasticard across the hole in the bottom of the pred turret, from the inside, wait for this to dry, then get a blob of GS, whack it with a dab of super glue on the brace.
Another drop of super glue is put on the bottom plate of the chimera turret, the place it carefully on the brace, put the guide plug in the chimera hull, so it self locates.
Remove and let cure.
Easy :)
Hope that helps.

Nice Sheep! Nice! Love the side Armour. I'm going to do a Storm Lord. Hmmm! Have I missed something? Stompa's can move twelve inches. Can this baby? I have looked and looked. Do the new Vehicle movement rules apply to all vehicles?

Sheep, you pulled it off again. This little baby looks really nice and the camo pattern is awesome. I asume the kind of gloss effect is just from the camera, isn't it?
Super heavy vehicles have their own movement rules Jacka, including for dangerous terrain, etc.
And Sheep.. Do you think me cutting off your arms and attaching them to myself will impede your painting ability any? If it will, do you think I'll get that ability since I have your body parts?
Cuz if there's even a chance I'll get your abilities, I'm willing to take the risk with your arms.

No, this one is only a super heavy tanks, so it can only move 6 inchs a turn. Its pretty explicitly stated in in the apoc book.

Yeah the gloss is from the matt varnish, go figure. It just really shows up badly in pics, its not that bad in real life. I'm hating that dulcote has been discontinued.

I used pigments, dilute them with white spirits, and apply to the selected area.

Hey sheep.
Awesome plasticard idea for the gorgon. That is an awesome model, I just wish in game it could stand its own at the front lines for a while!
While it is really nice that its front prow ignores hits on a 4+, its rear ten armour when combined with 5th edition makes the tank not as tough as it could be. Sadly. Still, it looks awesome!

OK Sheep, it looks good anyway.
For future reference however, if you wanted to add in the second floor, you'd take what you had pictured a few days ago, and add in some plasticard runners that were a couple mil tall every few CM. Basecoat with a medium to dark grey down in the well, then lay in the etched brass screening over top, and viola, you have the double floor in no time.

I was thinking of an inspirational scrawl somewhere, like "Forward to glory!" or something. Suggestions? The scheme will be the same, i like all my military vehicles to have the same scheme.
Ok, so after a long wait i have the Mortian Heavy tanks i ordered from -Mort-, and i have to say they were worth the wait, the casting is impeccable, easily the equal of FW, and in some parts better than.
So when you get them, each tank is individually packaged in their own box. All the components are in one large bag, surrounded by foam beads.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanruss001.jpg
The components are all fairly clean and with notable exceptions free from large amounts of flash.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanruss002.jpg
The injection point for the track sections a massive, and on the track detail! But this doesn't matter because they will be hidden by the upper plating of the chassis.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanruss003.jpg
These components are the weapons and details, and come in a separate bag.
Weapons include:
-Conqueror
-Demolisher
-Exterminator
-Executioner
-Annihilator
To make a leman russ there is a barrel attachment that slides into the conqueror, then to make a vanquisher there is a muzzle brake that you add. Although you could probably get away without it.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pics of the main chassis assembly. I found putting the wheels in problo-matic, having to remove most of the bolt detail to make them fit in.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanruss.jpg
I'll take more pics of the rest of assembly as i go through it.

Nice to see that you get back to work. I've been thinking on some scrawls you may put on the front ramp:
-"pro imperator, pro krieg, pro veneratio", translated from latin is "for the emperor, for krieg, for hounour".
-An other one could be: "we will crush you" (sound a bit like Freddy Mercury's great song... "we will rock you")
-"For hounour"
-"We are your nemesis"
-"we will die in glory"
-"Sacrifice"
-"Duty, sacrifice, self abnegation"
I've got a few more in reserve if you need... But it depends a lot of the vision you've got of how a Krieg guy think. In the Imperial armour books, they're pictured as bunch of numb guys, feeling no emotions, no mercy, living in underground hives, totaly devoted to the cult of sacrifice...

Had a good look through that review, you guys did well, from what i could tell with the Babelfish translation :)
If i expand the army anymore, i'll definatley be getting more, maybe another 3.
Finished the main assembly of the 3 tanks. took some more pics.
First you have to clean up the road wheels so the back looks like this, they will be hidden under the tank so removing all the flash is not nessecary.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanrusswip004.jpg
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanrusswip001.jpg
to improve the bond I laid down a GS sausage along where the backs of the rollers meet the chassis.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanrusswip003.jpg
Next is the rollers in place.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanrusswip005.jpg
the next step is the tracks, they come like this.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanrusswip006.jpg
TBC
Break them off til you have a pile like this. this should leave 4 spare on the sprue.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Lemanrusswip007.jpg
Each track needs to be cleaned of flash. Now glue 3 tracks to each of the rear return rollers, and 1 to the front. Now you need to glue 2 track pieces together. let them dry, these are going to go on the front between the roller and the first track link. Once in place glue two more links to the front roller.
No pics sorry.
Now you need 2 sections of 4 track links glued together, these are for the front. Now glue 10 section of 3 tracks, these are for th bottom and you need the large number to help you get the spacing right as the tracks do not fit perfectly, you'll need 2 individual link for each side to finish them. Practice placing them down before gluing them to get their final position right. Glue them down.
The turret comes in one piece apart from hatchs so requires very little assembly. There is some flash uder the rear filter that needs removing though. and a consistent miscast on the front left of the turret glacis plate that needs filling with GS or filing flat.
Finally add the gun of choice to the turret, or magnetize them if so inclined.
Heres the 3 as they stand atm.

I must say these tanks are very nice in the flesh, their lower profile and fine detail make the GW Russ look positively clumsy by comparison.
As Sheep said the molding is very crisp, though I did not realise so much work went into the chassis construction. I wonder if its possible for Mort to do the wheels and chassis as a one piece mold, even if it means sacrificing a bit of detail. Likewise a link and length set up would be nice for the tracks rather than the single links...

I told him the same thing, it would be more gamer friendly, because the single track pieces are the "weakness" of many kits. It just makes it impossible to build for "not so gifted" wargamers.
Forge World does it as well, one single piece per side, more gamer friendly. But this kit is more of a painters / collectors item, so the chance that he will do so is pretty low.
Never the less, its possible to build them, especially with Sheeps Guide about the tracks.

I've got two questions. First, are you going to use side sponsons on those beasts?
Second, they look a bit "ribband", I mean there is no imperial iconography on them, no skulls or eagles. Are you going to add some of this on them, or are you going to leave them the way they are?

Alas it is because GW with send their slathering horde of lawyers after you if you even think about putting an aquilla on something resembling something they produce. It doesn't matter that all their tanks are copied from modern ones, and the aquilla have been a military symbol for thousands of years.
I suppose if you wanted to put a few of those brass ones on it they would never know... or would they?! *cue ominous sounds of marching lawyers and fat nerdy redshirts*

I know that. They've got a legion of lawyers, and one of the meanest intellectual property watchdog of all times. That was the point of my second question. Knowing the fact that the tiny mort entreprise doesn't own the rights on the "skulls and eagles" symbols, maybe Sheep would like to add some on his tanks.

Second, they look a bit "ribband", I mean there is no imperial iconography on them, no skulls or eagles. Are you going to add some of this on them, or are you going to leave them the way they are?
I'm going tot try and magnetise them if i can find the magnets, otherwise, one will and two won't. I will be adding some imperial symbols, GW can't come get me, its just if the symbols are used in the casting process that you can get in trouble.

I always seem to take a peek at your log and never really get the time (do to the gazing at the pictures!) to actual post. Seriously I have been trying to figure out a way for me to use orange in an army without it coming off as well, tacky or out of place. I hope you don't mind that I will most certainly taking your particular style of using orange within camo, simply great!
I have to also just comment on how great the red/orange plasma is. I have done and seen plasma green, blue and purple, but that colour is just fantastic and is most likely looted by one of my armies that needs to be painted.
I have spent such a long time trying to figure out just what I am going to be using as inspiration and ideas to make the IG army I want. Let me just tell you, you are one of 4 people who I will be incorporating ideas from, along with my own and just for reference you may have heard of another on this list, his name is Dave Taylor... so all I can really say is thank you.

Well i'm happy with them what ever they are, but yeha i think they are a much better size for a heavy tank. esp considering the amout of crewmen there are supposed to be in here, and the fact that the gun could fire without the recoil pulping all the turret crew.

I may have to do a Gorgon myself later Sheep, thanks to you. Of course, I still have about 6000 points of painting ahead of me first.
Wash the hell out of the interior, starting with light greys or the like, and it should make most of the overspray look like normal weathering when you're done.
Great log Sheep. The mort tanks are looking fine. Considering using some myself, but the price Ay carumba.
love the spray work, the Gorgon looks great I wouldn't change it.

Just had a major Gordon malfunction, the hinge mechanism was too tight on the front, so when i sprayed it with varnish it glued the hinge in the shut position, so when i tried to open it the bloody thing broke. I'm going to have to glue the door shut now :(

Next time put a swipe of KY on the hinge before varnishing, that way you won't get any varnish in that lil tiny area.

I used pigments, painted the interior white forst, then sponged on chardon granite, alot on the floor. really really light drybrush of chainmail, gloss varnish, then washes of artists turps and pigments, let them dry then do different colours til you get the effect you want.

The Valk is quiet impressive too, the idea of using some kind of a neutral schem like the "minitorium grey" is a really good idea.
