Thanks everyone forthe great comments.
Great work on the valk, mine arrived yesterday and i´m already working on a review for the brueckenkopf.
Will you build a whole platoon? I´m thinking about converting mine into a vendetta.
I'd love too, but i have to finish all my tanks and infantry first :) Vendettas are cool,i'd love to get the FW upgrade with punisher cannons.
*drools everywhere* Goddamn sexy sheep. I thought my day was complete when I saw the Gorgon, but the army shot made it so much better! Looking wonderful Sheep, I can't wait for even more!!!! How do you find the new Valkyrie kit? Is it sexy like? Take it easy mate :)
The kit is pretty good, goes together well, apart from the canopies, they're a bitch to get to fit. And you have to glue them in with PVA so they don't frost up.
Nicely done Valkyrie. Sheep how Strong do you think the flight stand is.
It looks like it is made with that brittle plastic they make their other stands out of.
Also I'm curious about the size too. I made my own Valkyrie a while back and it measures about 30cm long and 24 cm wide.
Does that sound about the right size?
-Tom.
The flight stand is suprisingly strong, there is no pin on the top,the mount is actually a crucifix on the bottom of the valk. Just takes a little bit of trial and error to get it in the right place for the centre of balance on the base. Plus its plastic so it weighs less then the resin brick FW sells ;) The GW kit is about 28 cms long by 24 cms wide, so pretty good fit mate.
Cheers
Sheep
Crap, that just reminded me, I have new guard stuff waiting for me at my local GW!
That Gorgon looks wicked mate, the weathering on the deck really sealed the deal for me that it is one of the best scratchbuild tanks I've seen.
Looking forward to more guardsmen! :D

Absolutely amazing Sheep! Everything looks great!
Based on that shot, it seems like you don't need to make too many major changes to fit with the new IG codex.
Of course Sheep, you don't have to worry about the fogging from using plastic cement if you planned on painting the canopy with transparent paints (like a gold tint or smoke black tint) like you get on some aircraft.
How's the cockpit detail, and the detail on the pilots?
Painted this today for my mates shop.

Taking the time out to paint aircraft for other peoples shops is an outrageous liberty, when there are not one, but three Mortian tanks awaiting your airbrush!
ps The Valk looks excellent, I'm going to add one to my shopping list.

Congrats Sheep.
Great stuff Sheep, i've had a good look through your log and there are some great pictures. You have been kind enough to post on my log so I thought i'd return the favour, and i'm very impressed by your work.
The army shot is great, the dirty gritty colour scheme makes me very happy, and the army as a whole looks fantastic.
I'm very much enjoying painting guard vehicles, and seeing other projects is always good for inspiration. The valkryie looks good too, I can't wait for mine to arrive.
Excellent stuff, and a very impressive log.

Oh, interested to see what you get up to with those bits.
Great stuff there, Sheep. Especially the DKoK group shot.

The mortian tanks are up too the gloss varnish stage, all the camo is done.
Absolutely amazing Sheep! Everything looks great!

I still haven't figured out how/what i'm going to do with the new codex. Stormtroopers are so cool but bloody expensive.
Of course Sheep, you don't have to worry about the fogging from using plastic cement if you planned on painting the canopy with transparent paints (like a gold tint or smoke black tint) like you get on some aircraft.
How's the cockpit detail, and the detail on the pilots?
The cockpit detail is pretty sparse, a couple of screens and buttons. The crew were abit disappointing detail wise, but the heavy bolter gunners look nice, and if you get enough of them they would make great veterans with the grenadiers doctrine, though the poses would be a bit static and repetitive.

I just use GW paints,i thin them about 50/50 with tamiya's acrylic thinner, i thinkis called tamiya X-20A.

I'll see what i can do this afternoon afterwork :)

rev
Thanks mate, Yeah i airbrushed the base coat onto the valk, foundation paints go through the brush easy, though they smell like housepaint when you do. Its just a matter of getting the thinner just right, and they dry faster then regular GW paint too.
Cheers
Sheep
X-20A is correct, Sheep. Am looking at my jug of it that I got on your advice.
Also to add in to what Sheep said, while they smell like housepaint when you use them, it's more pleasant than the Tamiya cough syrup smell.
I am so *********** annoyed right now, went outside on the verandah to add rust with the air brush, and lost all the heavy bolter for the hull mounts :cries::mad::wtf: !!
So now i've spent half an hour under the verandah looking for them, they've done a hoidini on me and disappeared. I've had to convert the lascannons that came with the tanks into a heavy bolter stand in, just cut the barrel short and drilled it out.
Not happy.
Sheep
The beauty of an airbrush, chief, is that you can use it in the house.

Desperately awaiting pics of the mortian tanks.
Is the thinner really that much better than just thinning with water? Was really hoping to not have to buy anything else recently, but it's hard to argue with results like yours.
Thanks guys, been busy with army stuff and work recently so no pics or progress, hopefully get a chance on sunday to do some painting.
Frausty: the thinner is alot better then just water, it has a drying agent in it, so it comes out smoother and dries quicker.
Cheers
Sheep
Army stuff?
Aren't you Australian? :D
Also, the thinner is, I believe, alcohol based, so it evaps faster, and has a much lower surface tension than water, which means it atomises better.
Well there you go, knew there was a scientific reason for it, magic just doesn't cover everything :)
And yes, I am Australian, we have an army, not very big, but its there :)

So guys, putting a call out, I need chaos havoc launchers, 6 to be precise. Anyone got any they would be willing to get rid of?

you can make some pretty convincing havoc launcher look-alikes using chupa-chup sticks and the tips of missiles from the IG HW sprue.
I found a few bits sites online that have 'em for like $3-$4 a pop, Sheeperino. I suppose you'll want me to find 'em for you?
What brought up Looted Wagonz was that the wife was stealing one of my Rhinos to make a looted tank earlier.
As fer Sea Patrol, I can't watch that show, looks even worse than the old show JAG, lol.
Bloody officers bloody well mucking things up, no bloody clue as to what the hell's going on, just out there to bloody well get good, competent men killed.
Of course, if you truly want to be a Para, the ASAS is the way to go, but seeing as you have time to model, you're probably too much a lard body for them, LOL.

Erm well only a select few do it the rest pick on those that play the games
Because in the military you have two types of people - those who spend all their dosh getting stupidly drunk and insensible, and those who spend their dosh on gaming - be it computers or warhammer or the like.
Sheep, don't listen to Jacka, I met him in person and he's a bit off in the head. He married *quiet voice* an American.
There is a third type, people who get stupidly drunk AND spend everything else on gaming. But dont try it at the same time.

Both, Krieger.

Spirited discussion :D
On the oil paint question.
I don't wash the whole thing, just the details, then let it dry for a minute or tow, and streak it down, spreads it out alittle and adds depth to the weathering.
Sorted out 6 havoc launchers, so once i get my hands on those i'll do my second and third mortar sections, contemplating ordering 9 las and 9 auto cannons from FW, it would be a done deal already if you didn't have to get the ones that are moving the weapon in the package deal, not paying another 135 dollars for 3 teams firing teams!
Cheers
Sheep
I reckon the autocannon on a PAK model looks well for Krieg, Sheep. And for Lascannons, why not use a Puppchen rakettenwerfer on wheels?
IncrediSteve

it would be a done deal already if you didn't have to get the ones that are moving the weapon in the package deal
If you're getting 9 though, you'd end up with 3 that are moving, so you could have an entire Support squad moving, which would actually look pretty neat IMHO. Two squads deployed and one bringing up the rear getting ready to set up. With your excellent scheme and basing it would be pretty good looking scene, and if a moving squad bugs you gameplay wise, there's always those games were you don't have room for all 3 squads

LeMediko has a nice tutorial on making PaK-style heavy weapons mounts over on his log: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122112
Yeah he does, but there's easier still - just snag a PAK 37/38 or 40 from Tamiya and mount the 40k weapon on it.
Bungaroo, I think it was, did it with some 28mm metal ones and it didn't look bad either.

Use the 37/38... the 40 is too big to fit with 40K minis. The weapons fit well enough, but the carriage is too large.

The barrel of a Autocannon fits perfectly on a 37 mm anti tank shield (cannon), and yes i have tried it, though its not yet finished, so i cant show results yet... will do when i get that far, atm i am converting Rough Riders from a mix of Imp Grd + Empire Knights and Pistoliers... :p

Yes this is a good idea I have been thinking this since seeing LeMediko's scratch builds. The shields just look great on the Lasguns. The 1:35 scale is not to bad. 1:48 is better.
Use the 37/38... the 40 is too big to fit with 40K minis. The weapons fit well enough, but the carriage is too large.

SSG Snuffy
29-04-2009, 22:56
Is this one 1:35 or 1:48?
It's 1/35th... I don't believe that Tamiya makes a 1/48th PaK, but I don't know their product line that well.
The illustrations on the box (which I took for a 1:1 blueprint) are only about 2/3 of actual size. Fortunately, it was an inexpensive purchase and it is still a cool model.
SSG Snuffy
29-04-2009, 23:03
The carriage would need modification.
It isn't worth it, in my opinion. The 1/35 PaK 40 is just too large. The wheels are oversized, the carriage is too wide, the gun breech is too big, and the trails on the limber are much too long. In short, the best item (for conversion potential) from the kit is the gun shield. That being the case, I'd just as soon make my own from Le Mediko's plan. It's much less expensive, more customizable, and I get the satisfaction of having scratchbuilt it myself.
That's just my opinion, of course...
Rhaivaen
29-04-2009, 23:55
thats why i chose the 37mm AT-gun.. its smaller and less wide, and the gun-shield is a perfect fit for an autocannon, the only thing is the support beams, they have to be shortened...
Thanks chaps, I think i'll go with the cheaper (lol wut?!) option of the FW heavy weps, they'll give me more time to paint simple inf models if i don't have to stuff around converting the heavies.
Lots of great ideas in here for a one off conversion or diorama though.
Cheers

Actually, the FW option is a LOT more expensive, Sheep ;)
And the 1/35 Puppchens work without any conversion, just add crew.

Like calls to like, I suppose. I imagine that the air force types play Wings of War and what not, while the navy guys are into Age of Sail... really, that's just a supposition. It makes a certain amount of sense, though, that you'd gravitate toward a setting you were familiar with.
And I'm the odd man out then, eh Snuffy?
Sheep, did you get your new Cadian command and Sentinel yet?
Nah, If i get a command squad it'll just be for the powerfist (open call for those too btw), and i'm having enough trouble making a list atm, fitting in all the cool stuff is really hard :( I may get a sentinel just because i think the plasma cannon looks awesome.

I'd skip the vox sets, they're a points sink these days. For 2 Vox casters you can get 5 Bolt Pistols for your Sgts!
You know, with some of those officers you could, if you wanted to, do Mini-Marneus Calgars.
I'm not a huge fan of the autocannon squads, generally speaking. They don't tend to work reliably on anything much more armoured than a Trukk.
Mightn't make more sense to include a couple Grenade Launchers in some of those squads?
You could also combine most of your squads into Platoon 1, and then fill in the rest with Veterans, as they're a bit harder and don't require an HQ section. Be a great use for your DKK Grenadiers ;)
Marshal2crusaders: Its the platoon symbol, but i can't think of another colour to use so it may become the regimental symbol lol
Faolan, this is the eventual Inf list I'd like to run, but not the tournament list, it'll be a bit different

Don't vox-casters let you re-roll orders? That can't be a bad thing.
@ the helmet symbol:
You could invert it for another platoon or leave it.
Either way it does a good job breaking up the helmet and adding some small details that really make the miniatures seem like real soldiers. I know in the US, some division's sew their division patch onto their helmet liners. Just a thought.
Well, thats fine. I'm not suggesting power-gamer by any stretch of the imagination, I don't do it myself.
Your bits will be in the mail on the morrow, forgot to send the package with my wife this morning, but she's got it now!

I'm glad to hear so:) It would be such a pity that those Krieg guys ends up on one of your shelfs taing the dust.
Alright, well i found my mojo, and got to into painting the model my mates gave me for my B'day. The inspiration came from this WW2 german camo scheme:
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/104_thehunt2.jpg
And this, Mil 24 Hind:
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/mi24-hind-helicopter.jpg
I painted it using my airbrush over the last couple of days, the main colour is tau spet ochre, the white is skull white spray touched up with Skull white through the Air brush. I sprayed a bleached bone filter over the finished camo pattern, from the top only.
Weathered the **** out of it, sponged on Chardon granite, and streaked with scorched brown and chaos black, light dry brush/streaks with chainmail, washed with devlan mud.
Transfers from the baneblade sprue, and the leman russ sprue.

Okie dokie, long time between posts, but i've been busy/lazy blah blah Rl stuff that no one really cares about ;)
So i have a tournament coming up, in july, the biggest in the local area, and i want to win best painted! But i also want an army that has a good chance of winning, so i need to do some painting that i've been putting off, more specifically INFANTRY, 20 grenadiers to be precise.
But before that i needed to finish their ride:

The frosted canopy looks nice, it often happens that the humidity out of a plane froze a bit when it flies at 50 thounsand meters, it comes very realistic.
Anyway I wish you the best of luck for the tounament, and you don't it for the best painted army.

They look so cool... So Blitzkrieg Korp is for when? I guess that's going to be your tactic during your tourny? Using hardened vets in carapce armour, two squads in the valks and the third one in the chimeria just behind the "lumbering behemoths". That's unfair.
I can hear the screams of despair of your opponents...Make them cry Sheep.
I was thinking maybe you should add rocket pods on the valk to improve their fire power, to clean the drop zones for your grenadiers...just a thought. Anyway, those Mortian-Korp tanks are awesome. But it's me or the camo is slightly different from your previous tanks? Did you changed technique?

Practice mate, also don't skimp on your equipment, buying a good brush and compressor will make the learning curve alittle more gentle.
I also highly reccommend the FW masterclass painting book, it has alot of useful tips condensed into one volume that you would other wise have to pick up by accident yourself.

I've really enjoyed looking through this log! The weathering on your vehicles is realistic and yet nice to look at too, I particularly like the most recent valkyrie. I'm tempted to give it a go myself on some renegade vehciles :D
18 Forge World heavy weapons teams!
Like me do the mental math.........................OK let me do it with a calculator......Holy @#%* $$$$$$$$$$$$$!
Lol, yeah it wasn't cheap.
gotta say I love the army. all of it. one of the best around methinks
do you do comissions? just interested =]
I have done in the past, but i don't have much time atm. I wouldn't be able to an army at any rate.
What did you have in mind, Pm me.
Wow those tanks looks ace. How have you done the rust on the tracks? It looks SO good.
The rust is made of pigments, the most common ones are mig, unfortunately i only had artists pigments available. You mix them with turpentine and apply them, wait til they dry and rub off the excess exposing the metal tracks underneath, to fix spray the model with matte varnish.
Hope that helps

Me and Jacka are probable showing our ages.
The Black sheep Squadron was a WWII marine air group headed by Pappy Boyington.
Also a TV series from 1976.
Indeed! And it would be a perfect name as the this guy was a machine and his Squadron was called the Black Sheep! And he was an US aviator!
Hmm! Medal of Honour I think he won could be wrong though??

Ha, the list I've written up for 2000 points is virtually identical to your list. I've ordered some cadian battleforces and the two valk's. Airborne plague cav its going to be. Love the painting on those tanks and the valkyries and god damn thats a lot of Krieg.
Sorry Dictator, i was a bit rude. There are just so many, the amount of pinning tests hurt

Thanks Tommy, the cadian fist does seem a "little" big, but its much easier to get hold of then the older metal ones, and the SM alternative really isn't one.

As everything you paint, the Grenadiers look great. I agree that the metal fist would have been nicer, but you made one of the, in my opinion, ugliest bits on the command sprue look reasonably good.
Is this squad going to be fielded as veterans with carapace and demolition doctrine? Thats quite an investment regarding points, but I like it.

I'm sorry of my english and sometimes I think is quiet hard to understand but in my case is the third or fourth language, sometimes I mix them. Could you tell me what's wrong in my sentence, I always like to know my mistakes (sbagliando si impara).
By the way, a part from the objectives do you plan anything else for you autumnal krieg army?
You meant "priceless". "Worthless" means of no value, junk, crap.

Unfortunately you can't run both, so i just run them as either/or, using them as vets with Demo in most games though.

No worries mate, as Faolan pointed out, what you meant to say, was Priceless. I have another whole platoon in bags, and 24 heavy weapons teams, but they won't get done for a while, i think i'll take a break after the next squad.
Aww, you quoted my question and didn't answer :P
Sorry mate, I meant to say I don't know any more, i've had the grass for over 4 years now, and forget the manufactuer. Try scale model sites, and model train making sites, they have a wide variety of manufacturers and colours to choose from.

Actually, you can. It says "choose any of the following doctrines:" English is not my native language, but to me that sounds like you can have carapace wearing, democharge throwing, cloacked veterans. Might be a bit expensice though.:)

87 PAGES!!!!!
I just read through them all... im tired out by them all, and my jaw is hurting (aswell as my desk is damaged from the constant THUD! as my jaw hits it) there are no words to describe how amazing your painting is...
i can only think of a paragraph i heard from Battlestar Galactica season 4 (i think, but ive modified it abit anyway):
"There is no greater painter, No style more amazing, No army more epic than a sheep who chooses to step from the 40k norm."
the fact that your army corresponds with a real military colour scheme compared to the 'Eavy Metals 8th Cadian which just looks like target practice for the disabled makes your army stand out from the 40k norm of flat colours for camoflage. I am absolutely humbled by your painting skills!
you hav actually inspired me to do more to my models like adding regiment numbers and such than i would normaly do. Your an inspiration to us all and i admire that
(applauses)
wow... its hard to talk like that, now, i wanna see some more troopers as tank after tank is hard to keep up with.... troops!
Keep up the inspirational work

Finished the terrrain.
The Hoff and I have been working on this for the last couple of days, the giant space marines were released by GW about 5 yrs ago for a limited time, they were donated to us by a local gamer who bought 3. We did them for the local store run by a mate, for a tournament this weekend.
He had half reposed one of them, and cut another into pieces, only the running blood angels death company marine was unmolested.
The construction was a joint effort, but I did all the painting tonite, the Hoff was/is working on commissions.

Delicious statuary, Sheep!
Sheep, I think the bases could have used some Mister Surfacer to add another dimension to them, but otherwise, they look great.
