Well many of you will remember that i injured myself during my military training, this has unfortunately not resolved itself in time for me to rejoin training, so i'm being discharged :( The benefit of this is ofcourse more painting time, because i'm going to be paid by the army to hang around for a while while the paper work goes through.

So I'll get some more painting done soon once i've moved rooms and settled in to the new program they have for me.

Marshall: They are in a box at home, I'll bring them down to get some more done soon, the orks were a present from a friend and the only models i have on base.

Bummer Sheep - what exactly did you do to yourself?

I don't know how the Aussie military works, but I'd suggest you try appealing that and ask to be held over for a cycle to see if you do heal up properly.

I already have been held up for a cycle, they're not going to let me kick around for another one though.

I tore 30% of the medial and 15% of the lateral ligaments in my right ankle, and caused massive amounts of boney edema (bruising) throughout the joint and all exterior bone surfaces. Not good.

Sheep, I got sent home from the Navy with full blown double Pneumonia.
My personal Doctor told me if I hadn't been sent home, I probably would have died in boot camp.
I had to pay all my own medical bills from it. Are they offering to pay for your medical treatment and recovery time?
Right now you are young, but when you get older, those injuries can come back to give you trouble later in life.

Australia has a fairly decent post service (I don't want to use the term veteran because i really haven't done anything to deserve it) rehab policy, so i'll be fine :) Sorr yot hear about that Tommy.

Hope you mend up well again quickly mate, and enjoy the painting time while you have it :D Those Corporals will have you running ragard again in no time when you get back into it. Rest well mate!!

Sorry to hear about the torn ligaments sheep. Hope you are healing well and getting back on your feet literally.

Right now you are young, but when you get older, those injuries can come back to give you trouble later in life.

Tommygun has a very valid point here about trouble later in life. I know young uns hate to hear old farts rambling on, but I'll ramble on a bit. You have no idea how well the young body can handle injury and make it seem fully healed, only to have it fall a part rapidly when age takes hold. Unfortunately the only way you will learn about this is if you learn it the old fashion way which is to have it happen to you which is of course too late, or the less successful way, which is to have an old fart ramble on about it!

You may want to look for a Feldenkrais practitioners to help you fully recover 100% mobility. It should be easier to find one in Australia then where I come from.

I am not too sure how the Australian health care is like, but my personal experience with my local and European health care is that they are very slow in adding new knowledge, updating old methods and practices. I personally feel a lot can be improved. They just fear the legal ramifications of mal-practice and hence continue to use old methods that have been approved due to the "its always been like this argument".

Have no idea what the dickens the Feldenkrais method is? Click here. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldenkrais_Method) and here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_i5QuIqcQo)

Still with me I see? Well I'll stop rambling on now. I apologize for boring the pants off the lot of you!

Cheer and get well soon.

Ok, let me first say that this is a pig of a model, the way its designed to gether is just wrong, and the amount of metal is staggering!

So much so that even with the dremel i'm having a hard time hacking these guys apart!

But progress has been made!

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Commisions/caniswip007.jpg

These show all the gaps and large pieces i had to cut it into, then you fill in the gaps, and sculpt fur, and it looks like this.

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Commisions/caniswip010.jpg

There are a few places that need tidying up and more fur added, and the rider isn't complete, but i'm happy with where they are going so far.

Thanks guys. The imperial army is never finished, I still have another 15 heavy weapons to paint, and another platoon of infantry. But i think i'll give them a break for a while and just paint some stuff for the enjoyment. Maybe some of the new BA's and some more Orks, and i'd love to paint some armour just for the sake of it, we'll see, you'll definately see what i come up with though.

3 toed feet: 2 up, splayed, and one to the rear. But not like clunky dread feet, more along the lines of the Timberwolf as seen here (http://www.unknownak.20m.com/favorite_links.html).

Its really pretty open atm, I'm planning atleast 5 praetorians, but this is really dependant on ebay wins.

Also, Nicole (me missus) wants a parts list.

Well Nicole, The parts are:

Torso/head from chaos spawn
bigshoota from deff dred
CCW arm from Killa kan grotzooka (i think the skulls are from the kan kit too)
2x ork chainswords
and everything below the waist is scracth built using various tubes and plasticard

Hope that helps :)

The gang is only allowed to be 200 points ala the killteam rules, but using these as ogryns, and having a techpriest enginseer as a compulsory choice I'm not left with many points to play with. It would be so much simpler if they didn't need to be legal choices.

Did some quick feet, they're nothing like Toomygun or SDKFZ could do, or many others, but they look the part, Just need alittle bit of a clean up, and some more cables and i should be able to whack some paint on him.

Well if you notice the picture I got you, it shows multiple sections on each toe. As is, that thing looks stubby, like it'll fall over, so add an extra section to each of the front toes. Just make it a little bit smaller in height and width, so it has the appearance of being able to move like 15c armour plated boots do.

From 3 different sources so it'll be interesting to see which arrives first. Planning to use as the basis for the track units for the praetorian models with tracks, and either heavy weapons platforms or counts as sentinels.

If the concept looks and sounds familiar its because one of my mates (The Hoff) used the same models and ideas in his ad mech army.

No progress pics unfortunately, still working on orks, 3 weeks to finish them. I have been buying bits from ebay for the admech and talked to some people celebrities about ideas and help I might be able to get for the project.

Also played in a Tournament on the weekend and walked away with 23rd and the players choice award with the krieg, so pretty happy with that :)

Ironmonger: awesome.

Kacz: Interesting, i might just try that, thanks.

Alright due to my current work situation (ie being unemployed) I could devote a whole day to painting yesterday and knocked over a commision i got on the weekend at the local gaming shop. I painted a IG army for one of the blokes there about 5-6 years ago and he wanted some new characters to add to his command squad. So I painted:
-astropath
-officer of the fleet
-commander
-standard bearer
-medic
-2x bodyguards

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Commisions/005.jpg

Also 2 veterans to round out his squad.

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Commisions/006.jpg

He's going to add the static grass himself, as I don't have the colour he wants.

Really nice work there! As the first picture to load was the veterans, I was hoping you'd began making an army in that scheme! They look really awesome, the black skin makes a great contrast to the clothes. Alas, it was only a commission... So I seem to have been ridiculously productive over the last weeks, and to add to that I have some pics of a commissioned escher gang and the other 2 praetorians for my GD killteam.

The brief for the eschers was bright colours like 2nd ed used to be, apart from that the palette was completely up to me, trying to go for a punk/tank girl theme.

The othe 2 ogryns/praetorians. The bone 'ed is the one with the giant clamp, I copied the design from the orginal Jes goodwin sculpts in '92 as much as i could.

The Ogryn/Praetorians are fantastic, but I think the Bonehead looks a bit weedy next his pal with the big shoota (your first one). A tabard might help to bulk him out a bit, or perhaps a loincloth is in order - since he's the only one with organic nether-bits.

Soooo back to my fav log, to add to and play with.

Theres a tournament coming up in a month that requires 2000 points, now the simplest thing would be to simply paint a few more guardsmen, but I'm not know for doing the simple thing when awesomeness beckons.

Currently I run Knight Commander Pask in a executioner, but for this new list I'd like to try him in a vanquisher, and for that he needs a new ride. And what better for that then an actual knight :D

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/WIP%20stuff/001.jpg

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/WIP%20stuff/002.jpg

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/WIP%20stuff/003.jpg

So, this is a reworking of an old knight I had made for my fallen guard army of waaaaayyyyy back in 2003. I've cut the chaos symbology off, and rebuilt the upper levels with plasticard, I've tried to ape the style of the epic warlord, which I guess is the lucius pattern.

Anyway, Next thing to work on is the weapons.

I'm also looking for suggestions for paint scheme, I was thinking of doing it in the bastardised ambush pattern the rest of my DKoK tanks are painted in, the other option is to do it ad mech red, but then it won't fit with the DKoK army.

Anyway, help would be appreciated.

Tough call. To paint it red I think would look kinda silly with the army, but to just paint exactly like the rest of the army would do such a work of art no justice. I would paint it the same cammo pattern but with some detailing that really makes it stand out.

BeatTheBeat
21-09-2010, 18:47
Great looking Knight there! :) As for paint scheme, how about same camo as the rest of the army, but with dark-ish red parts - e.g head and weapons? Or at least red markings... Would tie it nicely to Mars I think!

Looking good. Abouth dammt time you give us an update :P

Imo i wouldn paint it DKOK scheme. Rather find (or make up) a titan legion color scheme.
Personally i would do that with the intent of building a titan legion detatchment for large apoc games and awesomeness.
I would proberly newer make more than one or two titans but the difference in you and me is that you actually paint you stuff insteadt of blabbering in decent people's logs abouth all the stuff im gonna make.

What ever you decide on im looking forward to see the results.

Fantastic knight! If you painted it in a new (titan legion) scheme you could still llink it to your DKOK by painting the metal areas the same as your tanks, as there is quite alot on the model i think it would be enough.
Great work.

BTW, where did you get those vents from?!?

the damned artificer
22-09-2010, 08:29
I'd go with thered for your knight as the mechanicum rarely deploys camo on their engines, as both the titan legios and the knight household are very proud of their livery. And like space marines, they want to be seen by the enemy so they know who will spell doom on them

But yeah, I'd say make up a household so you have a insignia for the knight, do some personal livery for this particular knight and maybe ad some of the markings from your DKoK army to show they are assigned to that particular army. You could also paint the same camo pattern as the DKoK, but in different tones of red instead, this could be a way to tie them together but still let the knight maintain it's household colours.

The important thing to remember is that the knights will always be a support unit, and the household has ultimate power over them, and not the commander of the army they aide. This is another reason why it fluff wise shouldn't be the same colours as the rest of the army and also let's you use it in other armies if you like ;)

Hope my input helps :chrome:

On the actual build, it's great and I love the different approach on the torso. I think the head could use some remake to make it look a bit less like a sentinel but otherwise marvellous job :D

I can see where you are coming from with this, but from my perspective even the most dogmatic and blinkered commander can see the merits of camoflage of some desription, even if its only to mitigate the amount of casualties/damage taken in battle.

Plus I see knights as more of a ambush predator, they aren't fast enough to outmaneuver tanks on an open battle field and thus would have to play to their strengths of greater rough terrain ability and agility.

Great work one more time, I like the mix with the sentinel parts an agree with a red scheme over various metallic colors.

Thanks for the input mate, maybe I'll do another one in the future and do it red, but its just not gelling with my idea of a knight atm.

This facilitated the change in list you see above, and whilst its probably not the final list, it is something I can work on elements of.

I'm a fan of dappled grey. While I'd normally say a Paint any day, it just wouldn't feel DKKish, so I won't strongly suggest you look into it.

You mean a Palamino Jake? I think they just look like the horse version of a fresian cow.

No Sheep, a palamino is a gold coat and a white main. A paint does look a bit like some cows, I suppose. What's interesting is there are some who's paint naturally looks like a handprint or is reminiscent of a known object.

Personally, I like the "or this one." I think the markings are pretty striking, and would look cool on the tabletop if you can replicate it in scale.

I'm with Snuffy; the "or this one".
Either that or mount them on Ad Mech adapted friesian cows with Gatling guns instead of udders! . . . . . and on that note I'll shut up.

Thanks for the input on the DKoK riders guys, some interesting things to think about. Still haven't recieved the riders yet though, so I painted these instead :)

^This. Always love your work with the DKoK, you really make them stand out from the more common dull ones.

The variation and dynamic is amazing. I really dig the look of these guys, so much character in this little "dioramas".

Soooo... You not only have to paint good, you paint loads as well. One squad of autocannon teams would be a whole project for me, yet you do a platoon! Incredibly good.

Keep it up mate,
