I reckon this has to be the worst example of building something up I've seen.. can anyone beat it? (not intentionally silly ones like that awesome Wraithlord last week).

"Your chance to get a superbly painted figure painted to the highest level"

bad model! pfft that's a classic! (although granted the paint job is shocking)

The new grey knights are better, but those original ones were amazing models at the time and I still think they're great :)

You missed his gorgeous SM scouts. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what chapter they're supposed to be from?

hmmm, good model? It doesn;t look like it;s holding the weapon properly, the pose is dreadful, the head looks very strange... Sorry.

I sometimes wonder whether a lot of this stuff about good ld models is simply nostalgia, something to which i am immune, being relatively new to the hobby :p

on topic again, there are soime real shcokers on Ebay every now and again. I sometimes wonder whether people jsut put these things up as a joke. I presume most peple saw the wraithlord from sprues and slotbases thing that appeared there recently?

Edit: the scouts... Space marine Harlequins? Those are also appalling (just like my spelling sometimes :)).

Nice model, shame about the paintjob (I think even I could do better). Classic GK termi. I still have two of these guys. Use 'em as my 'brother captains' for my newer GK.

eBay, where even the most mediocre can shine - briefly, before being mocked for days.

oh dont get me wrong, i love the old style grey knights, kinda get all warm and nostalgic when i see them.. it was the build up about the paint job I was getting at.

how do you think he painted them?
it doesn't even seem like he used a basecoat!
just smacked on some gold and brown.

That was my thought originally, too.

There are MUCH worse things to see on ebay.

While those paintjobs are uninspired, they are neatly done.

I often look for stuff like this that is effectively neatly base-coated. In the hands of an experienced (but lazy) painter like me, items like this can be diamonds in the rough.

They don't attract high prices, but can be easily inked, and highlighted into nice looking pieces with minimal effort.

The worst offenders are the items with sloppy thick paint that obscures detail. Those are worse than unpainted as you have no alternative but to strip them, then start over.

For example this is total crap: http://cgi.ebay.com/GW-40K-Space-Crusade-Marines-Poor-Painted-x-15_W0QQitemZ280061516322QQihZ018QQcategoryZ44124QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

yeah they are worse but the seller doesnt claim otherwise.

there plenty of awful paintjobs on ebay, its the "highest standard" bit we're laughing at

Nevermind the paint job, I would hesitate before buying anything from a person who can't be bothered to invest an extra couple of seconds to spell check their item description.

What wraithlord are you guys talking about?

Captain Micha
21-12-2006, 18:16
omg they all burn. particularly the "grey knight" sorry I can't even call that a mini... I do realise I am not the best painter in the world. but when you make my minis look like golden demon material. there is something horridly wrong with your ability

Flame Boy
21-12-2006, 21:32
Oh, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. These claims that miniatures are "pro painted" or "painted to the highest standard" when in many cases the quality is dismal, it just... I'm left lost for words.

The Grey Knight doesn't appear to have any definition between the two colours, they just sort of smear together.

Is anyone else sick of threads saying "omg look at this "pro painted" model for sale on ebay" with a link to a badly painted ebay auction?

Guess what? People label badly painted models on ebay as "pro painted" in an attempt to attract extra bidders/buyers.

Is this really such a surprise to people?

Whats worse is the monthly threads solely for the purpose of increasing postcounts saying "omg look at this "pro painted" ebay noob" etc

oh my god... i actually felt my eyes start to bleed looking at that wraithlord. must get the sentinal version, did he get them from forgeworld?

what really gets me cheesed off (apart from the ridiculus buy it now prices one guy insists on selling man o war stuff at, £60 for a black ark is taking the **** by the way, try selling crack to school children, then you can get away with that sort of pricing) is people who label something as 'rare, oop' which i assume stands for out of print, not still available on the bloody online store for half of what you are asking for it, for heaven's sake it's just a blood bowl player you cretin....

i'll stop now, please don't let me start again

Its not quite the same but a couple of weeks ago I saw a guy selling a "Warhammer lake terrain". Aforementioned lake terrain was some random unpainted thick piece of polystyrene with a bit gouged out of the middle, rubbish essentially.

Now if he wanted three maybe five dollars for it okay I suppose, but the thing had a $30 reserve. $30! I'll have some of whatever hes smoking.
