Looking good D. Keep up the painting, although not much Elysians in you Elysian log... oh well lol.
The salamander looks great, nice to see a chapter that isn't used as much as it should.

MD

Thanks. :)

Well, I've got a bit more done. However, something very important came up, so I've had something more important to concentrate on today.

I'd rather not go into details.

Crisis over. :)

Huge thanks for the moral support guys, you don't know how much it helped.

I'll fill you in on a bit of background info.

A friend's son has some kind of muscle wasting disease. It's untreatable, and he only has a life expectancy of 17. He's 13 now.

I've known him all his life, and he often has problems with seizures and spasms the poor guy. :(

Last night he had a bad seizure, and was taken straight into Hospital. He's been in all day, but finally he has the all clear and has been released.

This was particularly bad for me, as I'll now explain. Some of you may know that I was intent on getting my hands on a Thunderhawk recently. Now, this wasn't for me. As soon as he saw it many years ago, the lad has always wanted one. I promised him I would get him one when I could, and I don't take things like that lightly.

So, I was intent on getting my hands on Jormangundr's thunderhawk, because I simply cannot afford a new one. Unfortunately, due to been pissed around, it looked impossible for me to get it, as another buyer had snuck in. I am now in discussions though.

Therefore, I had horrible visions of the worse happening last night, and me never having have got him his Hawk because I just didn't try hard enough to raise the cash. I was so worried I got up in the middle of the night, and got one of my friends to fly me back across to England, with the state I was in it would have been total suicide for me to fly.

Anyway, we got here, and I was at his bedside for a few hours.

Now he's home, and I've been granted 4 days off work to stay here with him.

I hope that went some way towards explaining what was going on, and your support was invaluable.

You guys are true gents.

Thats very valiant of you to do a 'hawk for your pal. I wish him the best, and with the way medical research is going (I see a lot of breakthroughs at my university) I hope for his sake that they are able to find something to help him through. I had a friend who passed away from leukemia (which he had suffered from for years, and I had known him since kindergarten) when we were all in like eighth grade, so I have a slight grasp on the situation. Best of luck to your friend, and you're an awesome person for spending time with him in the hospital. Now he's got support from the other side of the Pond and throughout the world, as I hope I'm speaking for all warseers in saying that we're all now pulling for him! If there is anything I can do over here in the US, let me know!

Sir your a gentleman,

My two step-sons have brittlebone disorder, so I know what your going through, its not the present, its the future. Their dad and two of his siblings took there own lives due to the disease, the hardest part for me and sal is to educate the boys they do have a future and don't have to follow their dads path.

PM me if you ver need to talk to some one.

Just to throw the guilt-trip card, whoever else is in the running for that 'hawk must feel quite heartless going against you for it (unless they are kind enough to buy it and then give it to you!). That's like stripping a young kid of candy... or stripping a young kid of a SM transport bristling with weaponry!

On that note, whoever the other person wanting the 'hawk is, you can't blame me for taking Destris' side here.... I mean, he's a fellow Elysian player too....

jasevx
28-03-2007, 07:58
As Destris said, lets take it to PM, Might be worth Destris tho, opening a Paypal account so people can donate (leave it in your signature). I'm at WHW at the weekend, I'll try and talk to FW over this, see if we can meet on middle ground to get one shipped at a discount.

Destris
28-03-2007, 14:20
Hi Jasevx,

Well, some bad news. I've lost the Thunderhawk I was after. :(

That means I probably won't get one below full retail. :cries:

I will however continue saving, and with the help of all the donations plus the nice people who are interested in buying some of my armies, I might get there eventually. :)

If you could get FW to agree to some kind of discount, I would be eternally greatful to you. :)

I assume you are going to the FW Open Day, lucky so and so. I'm back in the US working, but the other kid I look after is going down, so I'll get him to bring me back any new pictures or anything else juicy.

If anyone else wants to donate, PayPal it to the kid's father at adrianbraithwaite@fsmail.net, and please let me know who you are so I can thank you and put you in my sig.

The one I was after was been offered for £250.

D.

Destris
28-03-2007, 16:51
Oh, a quick point guys,

As you know I'm trying to keep all this a secret from the lad until I have a Thunderhawk secured, so could the message/title for any donations be "Payment for Destris" or "Payment for Stuff/Models" or something like that. Try not to give any reference to "Thunderhawk" or "Donation". ;)

That way he won't read anything (He quite often sits here next to me) to give away the big surprise we're working on.

I can get away with typing all this while he's away, and not checking my PM's or looking here while he's around, but I always get a little popup window when a PayPal payment comes through with the message/title on it. :)

Anyway, on topic, I now have a MoTR on Jetbike to do on commision, pics later.

D.

Hi guys,

First off I'd like to say a huge thanks to everyone who has donated. :)

It's all living in the PayPal account which will be spent on nothing but the Thunderhawk.

Anyway, a picture for you all. My latest commssion, a MoTR on Jetbike. So far, only the metallics are finished.

30-03-2007, 16:12
How much are you short now on the funds?

No idea, depends if FW are willing to offer a discount.

I currently have £150 living in PayPal, will be getting another £75-odd by PayPal Wednesday/Thursday.

I also have £50 in the bank available for spending.

Current total: £200

Guaranteed next week total: £275

The Thunderhawk I was after was £250. :cries:

Did you say you wouldn't mind asking the FW guys about it? :)

D.

EDIT: Thanks Strelok. :)

jasevx
30-03-2007, 16:14
Well I have asked them by email, but no reply yet, and usually when FW say no, its usually said, they don't ignore emails.

Destris
30-03-2007, 16:16
They don't answer their emails any more, they simply get too many. Half of them they don't even read, they simply don't have enough staff, which is why they always recommend ringing.

You are right about them usually saying "no" instead of just ignoring it though if that's what they will say.

Thanks anyway. :)

I really don't know what happened on the Master's cloak, the paint is thin and smooth but it just doesn't look right. I'm only been paid £3 for it though, so not the end of the world.

Quick picture or 3 for you all. Now, these are bad, and yes, it was me. It's so bloody sunny here! I'm getting glare no matter where I go. I ended up carting it into work and taking it round the side of the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building, where we put the Shuttles together), it was the best I could do. It was also quite windy, so apologies for any blur.

Anyway, completed MoTRoJB, not my best work IMO:

looking good mate.

only a couple of minor points, i think the white could do with a little more shadow grey(very watered down) dropped into the reccess's. also if you take black(again very watered down) and run it around the edges of the grey highlight in the nose piece this might make it look slightly neater.

overall it's a very good job. where's the book?;)

Thanks James, I'll touch up the bits you mentioned. You also spotted my deliberate mistake. I felt lazy, so I'll do it later. :p

Thanks mate. :)
Next for me will be doing the Thunderhawk with the boys, and I'll try and get some more done on the Elysians and Valkyrie too.

Thanks Strelok. :)

Anyway, as an extra surprise for the lad, me and the other kid have decided to try and make a squad of true scale marines to go with the Thunderhawk.

I can't seem to find Doghouse's complete tutorial though, can anyone help? :(

So, if you have any Chaos Warrior legs you would be willing to sell or trade away, you know where to come. :)

Destris, I might just have two or three sets of chaos warrior legs sitting around (I have at least one). I'm in gainesville, so to wherever you are in florida can't be too bad for shipping. I'll check as soon as I'm back from class.

Edit: I'm worthless and only have one set of the legs sitting around right now. However, I could potentially have another set at home in sarasota. I'll send whatever I find. Can you PM me your addy?

Thanks for the comments guys, Strelok, thanks for the offer, but I think I'm sorted. :)

Anyway, good news:

The Thunderhawk Came!

I'd like to say a huge thanks again to everyone who helped, and expect a new log soon. Not today though, I've lost the camera.

Sweeeeet. Can't wait to see the work on the thunderhawk come along. I really like the choice of the salamanders chapter. I don't know why, I just really like it. As for the chaos legs, I guess I'll have to use them for something, maybe a SM minder for the imperial guard command squad I'm working on.

Guess what?

The end of the world has come, I actually finished something!

With the kids getting on fine on their own with the Thunderhawk, I sat down and got some Elysians done.

So, I present to you the first 5 man squad (I've got another 5 to make a whole squad half done) of my Elysian Drop Troops!

I love the highlights on the armour and pants, excellent work.

GASP! The universe must now end!

That comment aside, great Elysians, I really like the red on the visors, it contrasts with the rest of the model really well

Slight bit of threadomancing there Gunner. ;)

Well, since it seems that I've been dragged back from the grave, I suppose I should try to update at some point. The Elysians haven't got all that much further since when I left off, but some more stuff has been built and some have some paint on. :)
