View Full Version : Blood and Iron: Imperial and Chaos projects

Hello all,

I've been tossing around ideas for at least 15 armies and Necromunda gangs for the last couple of months without getting anything done, and between school/college prep and my inability to get past the planning stage of my projects, I was on the verge of accepting defeat and giving up the hobby. I have seen the light, however, and have decided to go full steam on two main projects. I hope that posting my stuff here will a) force me to keep at it and get a fully-done army eventually and b)maybe give some of you a bit of inspiration.

I'm planning on doing two armies at once: Blood Pact and a smaller Vostroyan force. Since I'm also a dyed-in-the-wool Imperial nut, I'll try to do a bunch of stuff from each institution of the Imperium. I can't promise constant updating, but I'll give it my best go.

Ok, here we go.
Test models for the Blood Pact. It's hard to tell, but their armor has a lot of nicks and damage and some Khornate runes gouged into the shoulder pads.

And on the other side, a PIP of my Vostroyans

Sorry about the pics - I'm not very good at all this technology stuff, and taking photos is still kind of a guessing game for me, but I'll work on it. Gah wtf! When I previewed the post, I saw those big white stripes around the piccies -what do I do about them?

Thanks, and C&C is welcome.

I'm liking the Vostroyans. Good job on the woodgrain...I couldn't do that if my life depended on it.
Do you plan on drybrushing the fur? Maybe it is and I just can't see.

The blood pact looks promising too. Any plans for the FW add ons?

As for the pictures. I assume you're using some online photo website like photobucket? You might want to look at the settings that it saves your pictures to. Perhaps its in some widescreen format. Either that or you have your camera in some mode besides macro (usually indicated by a flower). I'm not an expert though but someone will get an answer to you.

Good luck with the various projects. With all this work on the Imperials, the Emperor may forgive you of your heresy with the Blood Pact...but not likely.

Thanks for the comments everyone :)

@ Lote: The hats aren't quite finished yet, but when I get replacements for my dried-up paints I will highlight them some more.

I'm working on some more Traitors at the moment - I hope to have pics up tonight or tomorrow.

Also, I want to paint the armor more or less the same as on these guys:
Does anyone know how to gete that effect?

I'm going to take a guess on those blood pact: scab red basecoat, highlight with red gore and extreme highlight with blood red. The "damage" (at least thats what I think it is) is done by painting the selected area black and then filling it in with boltgun metal. Make sure to leave black around the edges to define.
There might be a gloss varnish over the armor but I'm not sure on that.

@ LotE: I'm pretty sure those are Dave Taylor models, and I found close-ups of his LatD army in US287 in which it seems the base colour is Bleached Bone and extensive blood coverage is done with Scab Red and red ink. I think I'll go that route, though I might vary the base colour to show different regiments, etc.

This fellow will be a pain in the ass to do. I don't have a dremel or anything, so I have had to clip/file his hat and rifle off. Eventually, he'll have a mail coif and a big bardiche-style axe.

More BP:
The head of the guy on the left is in the chop shop getting a grotesque stuck on (made from part of a beastmen head). FOr variety's sake, I won't give all my troopers grotesques (I've made up some fluff to support this, which I will post in the near future).

The fellow on the right will be the squad sergeant (I'm using the IG codex for these guys). I'm planning to construct a bone/horn harness for him like the one worn by the man in the background of this painting:
I love these Smith illustrations. They've given me a lot of ideas - check out his website if you've got the time.

I went to the dentist today and they poked and prodded a lot and my mouth hurts too much for me to sleep, so I'll get back to work and try to have an update for you tomorrow.

Damn, those white lines are still there. I kind of think they are the result of cropping the photos - I'll post the next pics uncropped and see if that helps.

Great converions so far, love the vostroyans as well, the only critism i would hold is that the fur hats don't stand out alot and look bland, bleached bone or something would help them stand out more.

Ah, that on the right one's face is... well, chaotic.

Did a bunch of work yesterday/today. and here are the results:

Sergeant and another trooper.

I carved the horns for the contraption on the sarge's back out of sprue left-overs, and the trooper's head is a beastman snout and a filed-down bretonnian head.

Group shot

and an ogryn servitor conversion PIP (bad lighting = shoddy colours in the pic)

That's all for now. Hope you like 'em.

Flamer and voxer coming up soon - pics tonight probably.

If any IG players would like to have their regiments represented in the BP, lemme know.

Hey man, your BP are coming along nicely.

If you'd like you can use my regiments. The Cadian 110th and the 69th Rifles of Krieg(DKoK)

I like what you've done so far, simple but effective conversions on the Blood Pact, looking forward to seeing what you come up with next! :)
