View Full Version : Keep Akamanah working

09-02-2007, 01:43
Well, with the last person in my area that plays 40k calling it quits I've found myself with little motivation to continue painting. So I will be making this, so that the wonderfull warseer community can maybe keep me working on my 40k stuff. Ok lets start the show. Currently I have a Chaos renegade army that i've been working on for some time. It's painted to a tabletop standard and in my excitement to get it done some models have slipped by the moldline scrappings, rest assured i will be going back and cleaning them up as much as possible(and then reapplying paint to the scratch marks:( )but remember these aren't showcase models so I'm not gonna worry to much about it. Also before anyone says anything none of the bases are done, they will be and I have the basing materials so maybe if enough of you bother me they'll get done sooner. Allright I think I've rambled enough and I know what you all came for is pics so I won't do you all dirty by not posting pics in my introduction. Behold!

09-02-2007, 01:48
OK above is my current Lord and now some more.
Old school Oblit.

09-02-2007, 01:52
Close combat Dread(It's a monster on the table.)

09-02-2007, 01:57
OK currently I'm working on a couple Chosen in power armour(yeah thats right you didn't read that wrong) and a unit of havocs. Some of you with sharp eyes might have noticed some other models to the right of the previous pics and with interest from the community I'd be happy to show them. We'll see how this goes. Next is a Lt. with Kai gun I hope to start painting when I'm done with the Chosen.

09-02-2007, 02:46
There looking good. But the photos are a bit fuzzy. I don't have a clue how to fix that so just ask for other peoples advice. I use a scanner for my pics.

Paint that guy in the photo above my post next please.

09-02-2007, 03:15
Hey there, this is some really promising stuff. Keep it coming. :)

Just curious though, what kind of camera are you using? Maybe we can fiddle with its settings for some better pictures. Also, try doing more shots like that one of the Dreadnought - it's easier to see the detail when the eye doesn't have to fight with the colourful background.

09-02-2007, 03:20
That's a kewl Kai Gun. Unfortunately I kept getting distracted by the big GIR sitting in the background!

Hope you get some more players in your area soon. In the mean time, good luck painting your army.

09-02-2007, 14:33
Nice conversions, like the dread and kai gun. Oh, and: I'd love to see those models to the side! Pretty please??

I gave my girlfriend her own giant GIR a few years ago for Valentines. It's currently buried under a load of her dirty clothes, the mayhem safely contained ...

OK I've tried to clean the pics up a lil more with photoshop and put in a white background to keep eveyone looking at the models and not all the other toys and crap on my desk. The pics still aren't as good as I've seen on other peoples threads but I think they're better than the earlier ones I posted. Here's a pic of the place I keep my 40k stuff.

09-02-2007, 23:22
Here's some stuff from the side.
Old school Raptors

09-02-2007, 23:27
Aw, I miss GIR. And the cupcake!

Is it just me or are the Raptors a different colour from the Dread? Although I have just noticed grey areas on the earlier models so I'm guessing it's just the base colour.

I'm liking all the Jon Woo Raptors. Twin pistol slinging action!

Chaos marines-Infiltrators with 2 Flamers plus Aspiring champ
Aspiring champ
Flamer marine #1
Flamer marine #2

09-02-2007, 23:30
the rest of the infiltrator squad

09-02-2007, 23:33
Yeah the raptors are a lighter grey. eventually when i do the bases it'll make sense.;) I just wish the pics of them had came out better.

15-02-2007, 23:46
Comments and critisism anyone? Any ideas are welcome and appreciated.

16-02-2007, 01:55
From the first post to the last your photo skills are improving so what ever you are doing there keep it up.

As for the models I like them, nice and clean looking. I especially like the Raptors. A small piece of advice that I think would really help all your models though would be to give all your metallic areas a thin wash of Chaos Black or a very well watered down Black Ink. They need to be very watery though. It will add a little depth and shadow without taking much time or effort.

Otherwise, looking good and keep it up!

16-02-2007, 10:30
Here's the Chosen sorcerer I just finished earlier. I still got a squad of havocs and another Chosen in power armor on the painting table. I also primed the Lt. with Kai gun, so when the next Chosen gets done I'll start the Lt. I didn't get around to putting a black ink wash on the metal but I think I'm going to practice with ink application tommorrow or actually later today:rolleyes: enjoy and as always C&C is appreciated.

16-02-2007, 10:32
Looking at the above pictures anyone have any advice for getting sharper pictures? I'm getting tired of the fuzzyness.

16-02-2007, 11:03
if your doing this on digital camera i'd suggest turning on the slow-exposure function (usually a little picture of a flower for some reason), and mounting the camera on a tripod or on the table, as the slightest knock blurs the image, but the results are well worth it

20-02-2007, 03:40
A small update, I finished the Chosen in power armor and started the LT. with Kai gun. As soon as I get some new batteries for the camera I can put the Chosen up. Also the havocs should be done withen the next 2 days(I hope)

26-02-2007, 07:19
OK got batteries and I now have a whole mess of pics. I haven't done too much more painting since i got my Tau battleforce and have been putting together some crisis suits and stuff. So here's the Chosen in power armor, whom i've named big hands.

26-02-2007, 07:36
and finally the Tau stuff I've been working on.
stealth suits
Fire warrior commander with his gun

26-02-2007, 07:41

26-02-2007, 09:15
Nice Battlesuits! A lot of movement in them. The Commander looks better with the guns as you have done them. maybe I'll steal that idea if I ever do Tau... Yoink!

26-02-2007, 14:44
Nice old skool rhinos, and w00t for new Tau goodness! Reminds me a) that I need to paint more Chaos, and b) I'm still waiting for 6 more stealth suits to show up for my own Tau :D

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the replies guys and keep them coming. I've been partying a lil more than painting recently so I don't really have a painting update but I have still been doing some conversions, so I still have a some stuff to show
This is my conversion of Sicarius to my Lt. who comes with the chosen in power armor I showed previously. I had already made a model for him but I wanted to do something with Sicarius and I think he looks better than the model I'm replacing. The rest of the chosen are still waiting to be either re-painted or re-converted.

06-03-2007, 13:35
Wow! That Sicarius conversion looks great! The 2 part cloak is a nice touch as is the string of skulls round his neck. Very reminiscent of Archaon. Nice work. :)

07-03-2007, 08:57
Thanks Catferret.
I finished the 2nd Havoc squad tonite and I'm getting close to finishing the Kai gun Lt. Now the problem I have now is what to paint next. I got 2 six man squads of CSM, a bike squad, 2 ten man cultist squads, and a winged lord left for my Chaos marines. Well and a possesed predator to build still. I'd like to get this stuff done before I start getting serious with the Tau.
What should I do next? thanks in advance.

07-03-2007, 12:01
Get the Troops done. If you keep putting them off to do the cooler stuff, you will never get them done! :p

07-03-2007, 22:18
I gave my girlfriend her own giant GIR a few years ago for Valentines. It's currently buried under a load of her dirty clothes, the mayhem safely contained ...

Where did you get the giant GIR?

Nice models, how are you going to base them?

08-03-2007, 00:46
I don't know if you british isle chaps have got Hot Topics, but that's where I got my GIR. Other than there try online toystores.
I think I'm going to base my CSM's in a scortched earth pattern. Like the earth around them is dying by their footfalls.

08-03-2007, 09:12
UPDATE time!
sorry for the consecutive posts but I want to put all these pictures in.
I finished the Lt. with Kai gun. Here he is sans backpack
Here's the commander of the second unit of firewarriors

08-03-2007, 09:16
And here's some havocs

08-03-2007, 09:18
The last havoc
that's what I finished tonite. I also started a 6 man squad with heavy bolter.

08-03-2007, 14:42
Ha, for some reason I really like that old autocannon havok model. Just such a big gun, hefted up on one shoulder ... unlike your kai gun, which is clearly a tiny light thing :wtf: ;)

The evil boys are looking good, you're making impressive progress, keep it up.

On GIR, aye he was made by Hot Topic and bought off of eBay.

16-03-2007, 10:17
Getting close to finishing the first of 2 six man CSM squads. I just have to say that I hate painting the original CSM plastics. I put a couple in each squad of CSM's as filler troops so they can be the first removed as casualties, but damn I just dislike them emencely(sp). I probably won't work on anything until next week since my birthdays coming up Saturday and I have a feeling I might need a little time to recover. Having your birthday on the drunkest holiday of the year is both a blessing and a curse, but mostly a blessing. :)

17-03-2007, 04:28
Hmm, tis Saturday. Happy Birthday! Down a few beers for me! I guess I can let you off from any updates for a coupla days but no slacking otherwise! :p

24-03-2007, 01:36
Alright I'm back! I got my Bday present from myself today from Battlewagon and I've been putting some stuff together since I opened it. So far it's looking like an Autarch, Farseer and a Chaos marine standard bearer will be put together tonight. Later I'll try to post an update, since it'll be the last picture update for another week. I'll be in portland oregon all next week so I won't be able to work on anything. Look for pictures later on.

24-03-2007, 02:14
Wow! A week away from posting? Must have been one heck of a hangover! :D

Looking forward to the updates. Intrigued by which Autarch you chose.

24-03-2007, 06:24
As promised I have a picture update. First is the Autarch. I have the Direct order Ranger and the Farseer with singing spear but there's nothing overly special about them to warrant a picture.
Secondly the Chaos standard bearer

24-03-2007, 06:29
The squad that the standard bearer will be appearing in.

24-03-2007, 07:06
oh i almost forgot. I didn't have a week long hangover, I just didn't stop partying. :) now i just have one week left to go!

01-04-2007, 10:28
Alright I'm back from debauchery in other states, and this time I've got queastions. I showed the autarch above and I'm curious as to what color I should undercoat him white or black? My color scheme for the eldar is going to be a deep purple with white cloth and red as a secondary color. probably gold for metal bits and maybe for the weapons. When I get around to the eldar I want to try some new painting techniques like layering and highlights. Also sometime I need to get around to practicing my freehand pattern designs.

01-04-2007, 14:12
I'm a fan of black undercoats for purple models. Small areas of white are reasonably easy to do over black. You will need to pick a decent base colour for your white cloth. Scorched Brown for a boney finish, Shadow Grey for a blue tint or Codez Grey for a more white finish.

Cloth is a great way to practice layering. Just remember, don't rush it and only leave the base colour in the deepest points of recesses.

06-04-2007, 05:55
PIP Farseer

I don't know if it's poor lighting or my computer but the colors are kinda hard for me to see, but the helmet and armour is purple. The brown parts will be gold and the grey parts will be red.
The white looks alot better in real life and I don't know what else I can do to it to make it look better.(Besides taking better pics)
As always C&C is welcome.

09-04-2007, 06:49
Took pictures in the room I normally paint in, since it has better light than my dingy room. They're still not as good as I'd like but maybe a lil better than norm.
I added some more color to the Farseer, but now I'm at a snag of what color to do the spirit stones. I was thinking Green but I'm open to suggestions.
The progress on the Farseer.

09-04-2007, 12:45
That looks pretty darn cool Ak. The colours work well together. Good work.

12-04-2007, 05:13
Thanks Catferret, it almost feels like I'm working just for you. :)
I got my wraithlords in the mail yesterday and I've already put them together. I was very eager to put them together. Picture update in a couple days cause I'm just too tired to do it now. That sounds like a good excuse and I'm sticking with it.

12-04-2007, 15:59
Thanks Catferret, it almost feels like I'm working just for you. :)

Yeah, I have minions to do my evil bidding! :D

As long as at least one person posts it should hopefully keep you going. I'm online a lot so will do my best to keep you motivated.

13-04-2007, 07:32
Super fast pictures cause the camera battery was dying. I'll post better pics when I get some paint on them.

I'm thinking of changing the base for the Shas'O to a flying base. I'm not sure.

13-04-2007, 11:59
Leave the Shaso as he is, he looks pretty stoic like that.

16-04-2007, 00:03
Something of a minor update. I based all of my painted Chaos marines, except for the chosen which I have to chop up skelies for.
Well I kept the Shas'O on the base , but I moved his head and plasma arm to be aiming forward. It makes the head to body connection look more solid in my opinion.
Now maybe if I stop wandering around on warseer I can get my Farseer finished.

21-04-2007, 21:23
got my Daemonhunters yesterday from a friend who doesn't play anymore. Since then I've been trying to change the look to something I'd like to look at. Should have some pics soon.

23-04-2007, 01:10
here is the finished Farseer minus a lil paint on the base, but I think I'm done with thte model itself.
I don't know how well the colors come out on other screens, and I know that the pics aren't professional quality, so sorry bout that. I'm not a big fan of really sharp highlights, so my highlights are alot more subtle and I don't know how that turns up in the pictures.

23-04-2007, 11:16
It's a good solid white you have there. Nice job. Subtle highlights look good. I can still see them so it isn't flat looking. Good work overall I'd say. Keep it up.

05-05-2007, 04:46
So I haven't updated in awhile, but it's not cause I'm not working on stuff. I started the Autarch yesterday and I'm currently trying to work through my Tau color scheme. I'm actually scraping mold lines in between typing sentences. Hopefully I can get some pictures up within the next few days. That is if work doesn't get any crazier and no one wants to see Spider-man 3. :)

07-05-2007, 01:08
This is the color scheme I think I'm gonna go with for the Tau. I need to get the base materials from a friend of mine before I can finish that part, and I'm still undecided on what color I'm gonna do the sept markings. Anyone have any ideas? C&C is welcome.

I'm about halfway thru the Autarch, maybe a coupla more days before pics of him.

14-05-2007, 05:55
Ooooh bad lighting. I'm working on getting a better light so you can actually see the colors I'm putting on these things.
I started my warwwalker today and hopefully the Autarch will be finished this week. So I guess expect a picture update sometime this week.

30-05-2007, 04:15
Autarch is done besides the basic base stuffs. Good enough for me to leave him alone for a lil while anyways.
C+C is welcome and appreciated

30-05-2007, 12:35
I think the gold needs a little more work. Gold can look stunning with a small amount of effort.

Base coat Tin Bitz. Then layer on Shining Gold leaving Tin in the recesses. Mix Shining Gold/Mithril Silver 75/25 for next layer. Final Highlight on the most extreme points of pure Mithril.

None of that ink wash shenanigans. That's how I do all my gold areas.

Otherwise it's looking pretty good. I love the dark blue armour and the white of the inside of the cloak.

31-05-2007, 05:03
Cheers Catferret, thanks for all your support.
questions now, should I do a shining/mithril mix layer followed by a mithril highlight over what I got to make it snazzier?( on the gold of course)
And I know how much you just love having worker monkeys make armies just for your purusal but what can I do to create further interest in this log? I mean you're the only person that's commented for the last 2 pages.

31-05-2007, 12:58
Alter the link in your sig to this:

Keep me Motivated! (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68607)

Click on "quote" after I have posted and copy/paste the above line including the square brackets. Ignore everything else. It will be more obvious your sig is a link to your project log. Post as often as possible in other threads so people see your sig more.

Hope that helps!

On the subject of your gold, thin down a little Tin Bitz and paint thin lines into the recesses then do the gold/mithril highlights.

31-05-2007, 19:05
hmm, that tau scheme is the exact opposite of mine

31-05-2007, 22:50
Woo! Catferrets help is already ...er.. um...helping. :)
OK so I would put Tin Bitz in the recesses except I don't have any and the closest place I could go to get some is 45 minutes away. Next time I'm over that way I will be picking some up though.
floyd pinkerton- I'm doing forest bases for my Tau and wanted them to kind of blend in. I'm still considering putting some kind of camo pattern on them.
I do think most Tau look good with solid color schemes, I don't know, should I put a pattern on them or keep the solid brown?
I'm open to suggestions.

01-06-2007, 01:18
I think a WW2 German scheme could look ace. Rather than camo go for the kind of scheme that really breaks up the outline. Crazy paving style.

07-06-2007, 07:23
I put some Tin Bitz and Mithril Silver on the Autarch tonite and did some more work on the War walker. I hate painting large sections of white now, before wasn't bad just the inside of cloaks and what not, but large sections of white on the WW are driving me to hate the whole color. :)
Some pictures tomorrow sometime cause I'm tired and need to sleep.

07-06-2007, 08:05
You should keep going.

I can see huge improvement just over the few models in this log.

For the gold try painting the whole area tin bitz first then burnished gold on top allowing tiny bits of the tin bits to show. Then shinning gold allowing some of the other gold to show through.

Blend up like this even on the small areas like this and you will notice the difference.

On a general note. always thin all of you paint. (Even if it means two coats). Two thin coats are better than one fat coat. It You won't obscure your detail.

For forest flooring try mixed dried herbs. (looks like dead fallen leaves) My personal favorite is Oregano. :D

Keep at it. Your coming on in leaps and bounds.

08-06-2007, 03:35
@Harry - The dried herbs is good idea, not only will the bases look spiffy but the Tau will be the best smelling army also.

Oh the top guy is gonna be another Autarch, but I kinda feel like he's missing something. I was hoping to maybe get a coupla ideas to zazz him up some.
As always C+C is welcome

08-06-2007, 11:12
You know that purple highlight you have done. Add a lighter purple highlight on top. (same colour add white) even thinner than the one you have done. Then catch the very 'highest' highlights with an even lighter purple. (Just the bits pointing skywards that the light would be falling on). Instant 'zazz'.

14-06-2007, 04:50
OK I need everyone's help
what pattern should I go with on my Tau
option #1
option #2
or option #3 which is the type of pattern that GW uses for the Tau vehicles.
What does everyone think?

14-06-2007, 04:55
I like the first one. It's actually kind of similar to one of the camo schemes from the Imperial Guard Codex, if I recall correctly.

25-06-2007, 05:42
Ok so not a lot of painting going on lately, sorry bout that but I've been caught up in RL stuff. Hopefully I can put some paint down this week.
I have been building stuff though.
WIP death cult assassins
I love the new empire flagellents! IG Chimeras not so much. That damn thing is giving me so much trouble for no reason. stupid warped plastic and too small FW doors. :(
