View Full Version : Epic/AI Terrain

14-02-2007, 17:05
So I have a thread started in the epic forum but we might as well have it here instead. From that thread and some wandering around the web I have this list of sites/pics of epic scale terrain.

http://www.ordofanaticus.com/modules...ew_phot o.php

I have also ordered some stuff from:

Basically 6mm or z scale stuff is the right scale.

So anyone got any other links to pictures or sites selling terrain useful for AI?

Have you already received your order at Old Crow?
I would like to order some of their terrain, but would like to have hear some first hand opinions on it first.

14-02-2007, 20:33
Not yet. I've had an order confirmation email and it could take up to 3 weeks (!) for delivery. I'll give a report as soon as it arrives.

14-02-2007, 20:43
3 weeks! Yikes!

So what did you order?
I'll place an order with some other stuff then so that we can cover a wider range of their goods. Might just be the guniea pig myself i guess :D

Well up to three weeks but I expect it'll arrive much sooner :)

I've had a look the Angel Barracks scenery, only getting a full size Auronautica board will cost at least 120! (which I'd rather spend doing it from scratch, and buying materials to paint my planes)

15-02-2007, 10:54
Well I ordered some trees and a load of sandbags from them to mix up with other terrain. That only cost 15 total. You don't want too much terrain anyway because it will prevent easy placement of models. You need enough to add some character and mark objectives etc.

Just ordered

Crow C6622 6mm Garage
Crow C6629 6mm Power Plant
Crow C6623 6mm 4-way Corridor Junction
Crow C6625 6mm Corridors, Short (Pack of 6)
Crow C6621 6mm Aerofoil Tower
Crow C6605 6mm Containers - Box (Pack of 6)
Crow C6607 6mm Cylinder Stack (Pack of 6)

Should make a nice little airbase

I've found this set really usefull for making epic scenery, and it's really cheap for the amount of stuff you can make out of one set. Chemical plant (http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/568_1_1860045.html) Technically it's 28mm but doesn't have anything that really scales it as such.

This is it mixed with their platformer set.

15-02-2007, 16:45
Yeah I got some of that stuff :) I say going to use some of the pipes and smaller container sections for a refinery or something. Looks good :D

Has anyone see the Gale Force 9 Mechwarrior terrain? Looks like it would be great for AI. A bit large perhaps but not bad. It's pre-painted as well. I like the City Block set with the removable buildings. So you just pop them off when they get destroyed and you have ruins. I suppose you could use the included Mech as a titan.

18-02-2007, 20:31
Looks ok - should be easy enough to , er, borrow some of those designs ;)

18-02-2007, 22:25
Just finished the first stage of my AI board. It's a collections of Height 1 and 2 mesas which I can lay down to make canyons.

Now I can do bombing missions between cliff faces. Next stage some level 3-5 rock stacks / columns.

Looks great. Are these pieces of polystyrene coated with some sort of protective material? If so, what did you coat them with?

19-02-2007, 01:01
It's styrofoam which is a bit tougher than polystyrene. Cut to size with a hot wire cutter. It is then melted on the edges with a lighter to give a cool texture. Be careful, molten styrofoam give bad burns, also holding down the switch on a lighter for a 6x4 board can cause blistering... OUCH... OUCH... OUCH... They were then painted with black board paint. When that was dried I sprayed it with a textured spray (Plasti-kote, Stone touch). I then gave then a light spray of chaos black to darken it a bit.

Ye Olde Crowe order arrived today (13 days from ordering).

The items where well packed and came with a little, hand-signed note which always is a nice touch I think

Item C6605 Containers - Box (Pack of 6)

C6621 Aerofoil Tower - huge one that

Items C6629 Power Plant, C6622 Garage, C6623 4-way Corridor Junction (left to right - top) - C6625 Corridors, Short (Pack of 6) (bottom)

The pieces itself are pretty heavy for their size, are nicely sculpted though they could use some more detail and are larger than expected.
I looking forward to seeing them painted - as soon as I have decided on a colour scheme that is

Mine still have not arrived.... :(

Look good though :)

OK here are my buildings from Old Crow:

I'll probably use these as a mix of Tau and Imperial buildings

08-03-2007, 12:16
matt, any chance of some measurements or comparison shots with AI aircraft? That's the one thing that put me off ordering from Old Crow - no dimensions or actual photos of the buildings.

08-03-2007, 12:55
Your wish is my command...

09-03-2007, 05:41
Yeah that stuff fits in pretty well.

10-03-2007, 21:13
Those trees from Angel Barracks look interesting. I remember the GW shops carrying trees very much like them, but I thought I would no longer be able to get trees like that.

I've requested an estimate of the shipping cost to Norway, I expect to able to put in an order by Tuesday.

10-03-2007, 22:18
The Angel Barracks stuff is pretty cool. I'm away all next week but I'll post some pictures on my return.

11-03-2007, 05:10
That old crow stuff is rather nice. They should thank you as those comparison pics made up my mind to get some!

14-03-2007, 14:33
Looking forward to fighting against you with my Eldar mattjgilbert over the new terrain. Just more painting for you to do.

17-03-2007, 21:54
I got those trees today, and I'm very happy with them, they look exactly like they should. Angel Barracks is a business I would gladly recommend, the service is impeccable.
