Ok what was your fave series of Red dwarf?

This thread broke
I originally posted it as a poll haha.
Where did the options go???

Even though there is no poll. I'd have to say that season 5 was the best. Mainly because it was before the jokes started getting stale for me. I diddn't mind Season 6 but Season 5 just seemed funnier.

Any reasons for this?
I myself prefer series 6.
Emohawk and Gunmen of the apocolypse being faves.

For me it would have to be either two or three because this is when i first started watching.

Also they contain two of my favorite eps, Better Than Life and Polymorph :D

Very hard choice. I'd say every series except 7 and 8, but if i had to choose, I'd say, I think, series 6, though series 5 was very close (just watched Quarantine earlier, it was hilarious. "So you want to go on your magic carpet to see the king of the potato people and plead for your release, and your telling me your perfectly sane?" :D )

Really can't decide though I will say that I really preferred the male Holly.
Ok I was going to type a quote but none are coming to me just now other than "What's happening dudes?". Putting that down to a lack of sleep so off to bed I go.

I'd say season 5.

No, not really. 4 or 5.

I can't say that I have one favourite series. All of them had good and bad episodes.
Though I can say for certain that there was at least one series I hated....well in fact there was 2.
Series 7 and 8 were a travesty to mankind in my view.

yep the return of Kochanski and the departure of Rimmer, were what made series 7 cack, 4 or 5 are my faves if i had to choose, so what is everyone favourite episode?

My favourite episode of Red Dwarf, was where they had some kind of a teleport machine and Rimmer and Kryton teleported down to this planet. Rimmer then proceeded to take command of these wax models of famous people, like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and muhat muh Gandi(sp) . And they where fighting some wax Nazis. And I think Lister and Kat got aressted by the Nazis. Something like that I saw it ages ago.

I don't have a fave series, but I have a joint fave for episodes;

the one with the crazy toaster, and the one where Rimmer and Lister are stranded on the ice planet :D

Series 7 and 8, as stated previously, were pretty awful. Not that they weren't funny in parts, but by comparison to the rest, they were terrible.

Series 6, and to a lesser extent 5, got a bit bogged down with repetitive jokes, like, "We're deader than [insert unfashionable thing]," and "Space Core directives ##### clearly states..." I think it's very hard to choose between 1-4 though, maybe 2 as Norman Lovett was still playing Holly and the characters had really got going by then.

Series 7 was awful. Having watched series 8 again several times recently, I have to say it isn't bad at all. True, the jokes are more slapstick, but it is still genuinely funny, and once you get over the 'culture shock' of getting the crew back, it is a very enjoyable series.

I think that series 6 is where it all came together really, but mostly I'm going to vote for series 6 because it contains my all-time favorate episode, 'Rimmerworld' which is brilliant.

OMG! I forgot about Rimmer world! I want one of those cloning kits so bad...

My favorite episode is when Rimmer catches the holographic virus that makes him insane and equipped with hex-vision, and of course the infamous 'Mr. Flibble'.

As for favorite season, I don't know...all of them were pretty good. I guess my favorite would be season 4 or 5.

How could I forget the crazy toaster that episode is well good.

The first four seasons were the best, after that season 5 got rather stale, 6,7,8 and were rubbish.

The one with the Rimmer Munchkin song, now thats funny too :D

He's Arnold Arnold Armold Rimmer,
He's such A fantastic Swimmer,
You'll never see him use a Zimmer
He's Arnold Arnold Rimmer

"If you're in trouble he will save the day,
He's brave and he's fearless, come what may,
Without him the mission would go astray!
He's Arnold, arnold, arnold Rimmer..."

What an episode!

hmm either season 5 or 6, 7 and 8 were not that good.

The 'Rimmer Song' episode in series 7 is an exception to the rule however. The rest of that series was dissapointing at best. TBH, it was a big mistake to get rid of Rimmer, as he was an immensely popular character - what a smeg head!

18-04-2005, 18:04
Rich, I totally, utterly agree with you, Rimmer was a great character. Not like Kochanski... *shudders*...

Come to think of it, I really like series one, despite the wobbly sets.

Rimmer was/is Red Dwarf, the series that he left just weren't the same and Chloe Annett (although nice looking) was pap
