OK, so for a laugh me and a friend are having a 1500 pt game in a few days, but we're throwin the force organisation chart out the window! Also to make things even more random we're planning to use as many "stand in" models as we need so we both can choose anything possible!
i have access to most of the codex's so what would you take in this situation?

if you play chaos use 3 defilers ,1 havoc then make the rest normal troops
trust me this should be a fool proof plan

if you play tyranids use 3 carnifexs with sything talons and crusher claws .6 warriors/cheap/ then just use lots of cheap gaunts with shooty weapons.......he will be too busy trying to kill the fexs to notice the gaunts

I can imagine that being a nightmare to face!

I would:
3 reavers + webway portal
then drop 100 wyches [mixing wych weapons and haywire grenades] into their lines....who could beat that drug abusing s&m orgy?

I was going to say 12 Leman Russes, when it ocurred to me there are already rules for that in the Armored Company list. I'm thinking Plan B would be 3 Flying Hive Tyrants and a bunch of Carnis.

1500pts? I can field.... 9 of my favourite Daemon Prince loadouts, and I also have the models for it! :O

Or also, Flyrants are always good.

Basically, take nothing but Heavy Support and HQs :)

And not Guard.. their HQs suck.
Tau Shas'El army would be nice... or an Eldar Wraithlord army.
Do 0-1 choices still apply? If not, take 4 C'Tan Nightbringers / Decievers and fill with Scarab Swarms.

11 Hellhounds!!!

All conscripts with power fist Commissars, you can't kill them all:p You can't say outnumbering 132:1 is a bad ratio:D

A neutral shade of black.

Crisis Suit army of doom - all Shas'els with body guard...

Bodyguards are crap. Why bother with them at all?

Fifteen Shas'el with plasma rifle, missile pod, targeting array, hard-wired multi-trackers and hard-wired black sun filters. That's 100 each, so 1500 precisely. Über-mobile BS5 plasma/missile combo. I'd be amused to know how that turns out.

All assassins.

I mean, come on, folks... his opponent can run an all-fex army too. Assassins can handle pretty much anything that's not a tank :p

Actually, the all c'tan army sounds pretty frightening. Or an all Destroyer army with a few res-Lords backing 'em up... euuugh.

08-04-2007, 20:40
Let me see. you could use gnoblars to represent leman russes...

if your opponent asks you how or why you get 6x4 leman russes, you just say 'spearhead assault' :D

EDIT: hmmm... why not field all-IG sanctioned psykers?

Here's one I just thought of: You could have 10 or so Servo-harnessed techmarines with full gun servitor retinues mounted in razorbacks.

Also, what about all-inquisitor army? An inquisitor is relatively cheap, and with a retinue can be pretty dangerous.

Hmm, true on the bodyguard. I wonder how a swarm of IC models would fare anyway? :p

At least a couple of those will have to have a fusion blaster as well, otherwise anti-tank options are going to be slightly sparse...

Love the concept...we do something similar only at 750pts.
We call it a Mercenary Force, but it has to be within reason.
I run a DH force, so my Merc's are a squad of 8 Termi's -
5 with ass/can and PF, plus a Chappy, Librarian, and Commander, all kitted out appropriately. Makes for a damn fun and often bloody game.

My take on your list would be all GKT GM's, same as Red Lep.

I am surprised noone mentioned Eldar Falcons or Fire Prisms yet. I am sure you can cram about 8 of those into 1500 points with holofields. People already cry when they face 2-3 tanks with holofields.

I'm surprised nobody has said Harlequin spam - I don't have my codex with me so I can't do the exact math but as I recall a fully-kitted 6 man squad runs in the neighborhood of 250. So you could do a 36 man can't-be-shot-outside-of-24"s, all-rending, army o' doom...

Either go Ork Speedfreaks and 100% Fighta-Bommerz Raids or Inquisitors and Orbital Strikes.

You put zero models down and get to cook his from orbit. Repeatedly.

You put zero models down and get to cook his from orbit. Repeatedly.

Well, fighta- bommerz only happen at the beginning of the game. Yes, while it is theoretically possible to buy enough raids to kill, say, 500 grots, the likelihood of it happening rapidly diminishes as the other player moves towards horde-type armies,

Orbital strikes would likely work better as you could at least have multiple shots at the guy. However, depending on how they agree to handle VP's choosing either fighta-bommerz or orbitals could sacrifice all his VP's to his opponent.

Although, it would make for a funny story for one guy to take all orbitals only to lose to the one stickin' grot mob that survived the bombardment and was able to claim the objective at game's end...

remember that if you take a monolith army then 24% of 0 is 0 so if at any time you start a turn you lose anyway even though you have lost no necrons, as you are at 24% which is less than 25%

Yes... 6 monoliths... and then all non-Necron special rule units... that way you can have an army that never phases out, and has 6 monoliths....

How about 469 Grots, a slaver, and a warboss attached with a powerklaw? You can take on anything with the warboss' S10. Watch the look on your opponents face when he finds out he has to remove 470 wounds to get to the boss.

Isn´t a Warboss an Independant Character, and does he not so act as described on page 51?

IncrediSteve
09-04-2007, 22:09
Yeah, I'm afraid that kills that idea. If the slaver can be given a power claw it's just as doable, otherwise the Warboss couldn't attack until enough grots had been killed to allow his killzone to be close enough, then he can be hit back like anything else.

'side, Falcon full o' Phoenix lords could just fly in circles blasting the grots apart.
