View Full Version : Fully Painted Squadron's/skyhost's/caste's? (pic request)

13-04-2007, 12:45
I know people generally don't like threads that request pictures, but this section of warseer doesnt seem too busy so I thought I would ask. Just wanting to see any pictures of small painted squadrons, imperial, eldar, tau or ork...Partly for some painting ideas and partly just so I can stare at the o so pretty FW models.

ps: I will post my Tau (2 tigar shark and 4 baracuda) when its done.

Talking 'bout TAU. Here are my Air Caste Members:

I would just like to point out that Megaboltrat's markers seem to becoming a 'standard' item to add.

Sir, Yes!! Sir !!! Actually they do ;)

Nice Tau there dude, almost feel embarassed to show my tau now lol. Thats the problem with FW, the models are so gorgeous but sometimes I dont think my painting skills can do them justice.

Yes I might have to print off some of those base markers fro my tau, they look snazzy.

04-05-2007, 21:45
Finished the first part of my Tau air caste, 4 Barracuda (completed all today) and 2 Tigarshark....just 2 more Barracuda and 2 Tigar shark AX-1-0 and I will be done for awhile.

Photo changed as the first one looked wack.

05-05-2007, 02:21
Nice overall... I have a few flights of aircraft going (in segments shown over at Airspace).

07-05-2007, 08:01
Awesome Tau air cadre I love your color scheme and highlighting method.
I like the scale of the AI mini's because they do not have heroic scale guns like the 6mm EPIC mini's, which are not very good. (I like the Titans and that's about it.)

If EPIC was redone by Forgeworld in the same scale of AI (what scale, N scale?) or hopefully enough mini's are produced for various AI campaigns that we'll have the whole range of Tau vehicles.

07-05-2007, 12:33
Actually they are the same scale. The minis that are not in the ~300 mm scale are the SG War Engines mostly. The entire Tau range should all be in the proper scale.

Here´s my world eaters squadron. Not as good as the taus above but they do the job ;)

07-05-2007, 20:51
I like them... They look like proper Chaos ships.

07-05-2007, 21:12
Those Khorne look really nice... any close ups?

07-05-2007, 22:46
Very interested in some close ups of the chaos to. Mine are on order and with some luck there might be just few enough models for me to paint them all.

07-05-2007, 23:29
The only close-up i got is the first pic with better resolution, hope it helps

08-05-2007, 00:11
Some gorgeous ships there Arkhar, cheers for the close ups.

One question what have you used for the flying base stems?

08-05-2007, 00:18
hey peeps any you have a problem with me putting up pictures of your fleet on Aerowiki?

hey peeps any you have a problem with me putting up pictures of your fleet on Aerowiki?

No problem here, let me know if you need a better shot or different angle.

08-05-2007, 01:15
If you can do me a couple at 600px wide one from either side it would be cool? I'm also trying to get a photo of a Barracuda and a AX-1-0 from this kind of angle,

preferably on a really simple backdrop to make it easier to cut out. I've been trying to get my Orks up, but I'm falling asleep... so I will do more tomorrow

08-05-2007, 07:35

I used wooden sticks. I was lucky it fitted perfectly on the hole so no glue was required

It would be an honour to have them on aerowiki ;)

08-05-2007, 08:20
They are now up mate at http://aerowiki.wikidot.com/chaos

08-05-2007, 09:33
Nice page you got there. Luv the name, Arkhar the destroyer

08-05-2007, 12:10
Yo Ratty,

Hope this is what you wanted...im trying to come up with a fierce yet Tauish name for the wing...help lol. Its coming along pretty well the Aerowiki.

ps: I do have a AX-1-0 buts not painted yet, so will post it up when it is...

08-05-2007, 12:34
Cause there appears to be a lot of Tau Air Cadres here... something Imperial!

And all my painted AeroImp.

08-05-2007, 21:46
lomo, nice, just what I was after.... What about calling it Kor'Y'He'Ka, translates roughly as Death from Above (lit Air Death Blow)

09-05-2007, 05:26
Well done on all these aircraft - nice paint jobs all round! :)

09-05-2007, 13:49
Kor'Y'He'Ka that sounds cool to me, go with that!

Cheers Ratty

20-05-2007, 18:06
Wow those are some very nice examples of Tau AI minis. Where do you get those smart looking symbols for the bases?? I read earlier that you can download them or something???

20-05-2007, 21:03
Chaos Bunny - here (http://aerowiki.wikidot.com/base-markers).

21-05-2007, 07:23
Thanks for that orangesm! :)

07-06-2007, 19:51
I have my Ork Air Waagh! here if anyone is interested?
*** Edit: New pictures uploaded, including FW Grot Bombs. ***
That's the whole fleet so far.
There will be more.
Only three on the middle left hand side are Epic/GW mini's. All the others are scratch built from Trumpeter 1/350th scale modern aircraft (display models for 1/350th scale Aircraft Carrier models).
I also have some closeups if anyone wants to see more?
For example:

I've just realised that Editing your own threads doesn't show on the Index, so I'm "bumping" this thread so people know I added to my last post! :o

They look cool! How are the grot bombs done?

Also, just to note, using other companies aircraft and modifying them is 'converted' rather than 'scratchbuilt' :p

11-06-2007, 19:04
Thanks Tyra-nid!
Your point is well taken and by "scratch-built" I meant not of GW origin.
But I stand (or sit actually) corrected! ;)
You ask about the Grot Bombs, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I'll assume "how I made/painted them", but If I get it wrong ask again!
I bought the Forge World models because I didn't have the skill or time to make decent representations that small. (And the little beggars looked so cool! LOL)
I stuck them on a piece of brass rod thin enough that it didn't detract from the model, then stuck the other end of the brass rod in a cut down flying-base stem. This has a magnet attached, as do all my flying bases/stems, for ease of storage and flexibility when playing.
Painting, black spray undercoat, very sparingly.
Foundation paint mechrite Red base coat, again fairly thin, but two coats.
Then a "wash" of blood red to improve the colour.
The flame-effects were done with Foundation paint Iyanden Darksun.
Teeth, Iyanden Darksun, brown inked and then picked out with White.
Boltgun metal on the nose "spike" and Blood Red for the "Big Red Button" on the detonator!
The grot got a Calthan Brown jacket, brown inked for leather look. (Difficult to see from the picture.
The grot was painted Gretchin Green and then inked with old Waagh Green Ink.

Hope this helps and gives you what you wanted to know. And if you want to know the size of these things take a look at this picture, done for scale!

I've added pictures of my Ground Forces, Objectives and scenery now as well, here's the basics:
Ground forces and Objectives
Orky settlement
These are made from the old Epic square bases, for floors and roofs, some 1mm plasticard, the totems are the old Epic banner poles and bases off Epic Orks boys "chopped" off to be pilots. painted Evil Sunz of course, to be consitent with the Kult Of Speed paint job on the planes!

13-06-2007, 13:56
very nice, I think that the ground attack aspect of the game is an important one, but I initially found it difficult to get people to play those games.

13-06-2007, 23:16
Just had a 200 point Bombing Run Mission (homemade) against Brimstone's Tau.
A fairly decisive Ork Victory for Da Red Barrun and his cronies!
I've just uploaded a picture Bat Rep on the Spacewolves Community site if anyones interested.
Some shots of the battle/air forces and ground forces in play.
You will need to be a SWC member, but that's no hardship, its a great place to visit!
