I'm going to designate one squad of my Deathwing army to be basically my Chaplain's Honour Guard, and as such, they're going to be specialised more toward assault than shooting.

My dilemma is rather simple: Heavy Flamer and Power Fist, as it will actually get some use in an assault-dedicated squad, or CML and Lightning Claws, as it will get to shoot when the unit arrives under normal circumstances, instead of just when the Techmarines manning the teleporters royally feth up and teleport them too close?

CML and LC would be better, you get to re-roll your wounds and you don't go effectively last as with power fists. I thought they had to have one hand free for that CML targetting thingy anyway, meaning they can't have CML and LC, or does the new codex not specify that?

The new CML doesn't replace the powerfist with a targeter, so you can have powerfist, stormbolter, and CML on the one miniature. This also means that you can have LCs and CML, or TH/SS and CML on the one miniature.

In any case, I would pick CML and LCs. Longer range, your choice of appropriate target depending on what's the biggest threat at your landing point, and Lightning Claws are just cooler :)

^^cool didn't know that cos I don't have the codex, but we've both agreed that CML and LC are better, so that should help you Lyinar. :)

Try with this, 3 pairs of LC, 1 stormbolter with power fist and 1 assault cannon/heavy flamer (your choice) with chain fist.

Your chaplain will give LCs a re-roll to hit and the LCs will get a re-roll to wound. Really nasty. Stormbolter and assault cannon can take out a range of infantry/light/medium vehicles. If you are really going for assault, heavy flamer should clear most targets in cover 'cause there is no cover saves. Power fist and chain fist for any last targets and vehicles. Should the power fist fail to damage vehicles, the chain fist would increase a vehicle armor penetration.

I have been testing this on several occasions and has worked so far.
Usually i would included Belial to make a squad of 7 termies. The termie apothecary would encourage greater surviability and the company banner would just put a little more hurt.

Cheers

Thunder Hammer+Storm Shield+CML I'd say.
LCs are utter crap against vehicles.

And afaik; the apothecary and standard bearer can have full equipment.
Though I still wonder how an apothecary can work with a thunder hammer, storm shield in hand and a CML on his shoulders...

Still; if you want an assaulty-squad, take the standard bearer.
And since it's 3 different units, you'll probably want a LRC for them to ride in.
And may I note that that'd be roughly half your army put in 8 or so models?
Personally; I think that the assault squad wouldn't be worth it at that point.

Scratch the LRC, the apothecary and DWA make for a hard to squash squad that wont be held up by their expensive transport going bye-bye. DW are great at getting up the field quickly without using transports (unless you count the bikes that is). I find an assaulty squad with a heavy flamer works great when you can use the RW to pinpoint their placement. It allows you to be just the right distance away to fry as man models as you can.

I myself use two squads for my DWA (I always take three DW squads in my army). One is a shooty squad with only one LC terminator and a Librarian attached. They fry nearby targets who will be an immediate threat to both squads. Belial's squad is the assaulty one with the apoth and standard bearer. It has a CML that I use kind of like a HK-missile mounted on a vehicle. On the first turn it fires on any tank not taken out by my other shooting and if it brings it down that's a plus. It also works well for insta-killing characters without assaulting them (I've managed to snipe a Shas'o from half a board away doing this). The third is a great mop-up squad if the RW managed to stay alive until they land, they use two LC equipped models along with a heavy flamer to strike at weak points in the line where they are least expected. These three squads working together can cover nearly any situation that pops up.
