My vote is for tyranids

Imperial Guard, though apart from a squad of original metal catachans (which I've only primed when I bought them year and years a go...) I have never, and most likely will never, collet them.

I just like the look of a many of the old metal regiments (not to mention the new DKoK) and the feel of the army. It's my favourite army to play against. I just hope they'll get a stronger codex when their update is due.

At the end of the day when all is said and done, Marines are truly for teh win. They were my first army back in 95 and were always fun to play with through all my various marine armies.

Marines, specifically Dark Angels, FTW

Got to be Eldar, brilliant models, nice and fruity background, and kick-but-rewarding-if-you-think-your-army-choice-out-carefully rules (yeah granted, fairly new codex and all). Runner up would have to be the horde armies though, guard and orks, would play them if I could afford them.

I was going to vote for my beloved Space Wolves but I suddenly found myself voting for my hard bitten Guardsmen.

I think that I really enjoy not worrying about the number of Casaulties I can take knowing that the army can absorb them and still win. ;)

In terms of fluff, Orks then Guard then Chaos.

in terms of gameplay, Guard, Chaos, everything else.

so I voted guard.

Have to go with Dark Angels. Game wise, I've always enjoyed wielding a smaller, elite force. Fluff wise, DA I just enjoy the idea of Marines moving through space in the remains of a destroyed planet with a huge monestary on it while pursuing their own ends.

Orks, cause if I win I'm good if I lose its the codexes fault.

2nd edition Orks, for the whole background, and the absolutely unpredictable gameplay. That was a proper WAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

In the current set-up, the Imperial Guard. The whole going up against an entire galaxy of in every way superior enemies, and generally winning through sheer numbers, and some very heavy artillery.

Marines, I just like all the toys they get. then Eldar and IG afer that.[dice0]

Eldar by FAR are my fav army, with Tyranids as a close second.

With the new super schweet Eldar dex every single unit is viable, and effective in itís own right. Not only are my Elites choices hard fought over, but so are my heavy support, fast attack and HQ and troops Ö

Good looking models for the most part too and really easy to convert. I canít believe how well done the new codex is and how many options it allows.

If it has not been for the neigh uselessness of the CC carnifex, or the horrific performance of the Lictor, and sub par warriors I might have chosen Tyranids instead as their model line is prolly the coolest out there, no conversions needed!

Dark Eldar. Unique playing style, the models arn't as bad as everyone says they are, and IMO what fluff there is for them is some of the best.

It's super hard to say -- by what basis are we determining "favorite"?

I love marines visually because of the heraldry-based themes, and I love the idea that people are encouraged to "create their own chapter". But I wouldn't necessarily pick marines for favorite army.

I love the Eldar. I like the specialist stuff, and some of the miniatures are absolutely gorgeous.

I've fallen in love with Necrons for being super easy to paint...

But I voted for orks. I love the background of orks, love the buffoonery, love some of the warboss miniatures...

I'm hoping the new Ork codex is good; if it is, I'll be buying up Ork stuff, I'm sure.

Eldar. They make me care how many casualties I take. That's quite impressive IMHO. There is something about fighting when there is no hope. There is only drive: Take as many of them with you as you can. The Eldar will always lose, no matter what I do. That's why I like them.

After voting for Orks, I feel like I just betrayed my Chapter. But theres just something about Orks that makes me want to start an army of them one day, even with all that painting.

I voted Orks. Green is da best!

Dark Eldar.

On the table top, they are very powerful, and its a good thing most people aren't able to use them, thus, keeping them rare and in the hands of those who like to win :)

Fluff wise, Dark Eldar are the only true evil army in the game. My definition of evil differs from your of course. But Dark Eldar are pure evil. And I love it. Necrons have no choice, and thus, are no better than robots. And Chaos, well, are parts of evil, not the whole thing. Dark Eldar are the whole package.

Thats my opinion.

I love da Boyz mainly due to their hillarious portrayl in Dawn of War and their ability to use any patched up wreck you care to model. It does not look like crap. Its Orky! :)

First one to vote for Tau! I just love their futuristic style that's a mix of present day tactics and such. Their models are some of the best in the game as well, imho. Even the standard FW has an animated look to it.

Guard, definitely Guard.

Not that I have an army, it'd either involve painting far too many models, or be ridiculously expensive due to ForgeWorld's influence.

However, I just love them. Playing against them's great - you kill loads of models, but there's still masses left to keep the fight fair. Plus, the potential for making your own personal army is just brilliant - I've personally got at least five totally different regiments I'd eventually like to do.

Maybe I'll start on the Armoured Battlegroup first, as a 'change of pace' interspersed with the full Marine Battle Company I'm about to start work on. (2 FOCs, 112 men, 3000pts)

I love the Iron Warriors, their background and fluff, they're just cold, selfish and apathetic killers. The way they were portrayed in Storm Of Iron was probably the best incarnation of Chaos Space Marines ive ever read.

Have to go with tyranids. My first 40k army, largest and most played with.

18-04-2007, 03:56
Ooooh... tough choice. Orks or Dark Eldar. Both have interesting backgrounds, both are often seen as underdogs and are a challenge to play properly, both have crappy models that you either convert or grow to love, and I own both.

In the end I had to go for Orks, but it was a hard choice. I like my DE, but Orks is Orks! Big, brash, bold, blasty, brainless, brilliant Orks :P
The background is great in my opinion, though I know many people dislike it. The army offers endless options for conversions which is always fun, and if you lose, its almost as much fun as if you win!

Marines but more specifically Grey Knights, but I consider them more as marines although they do specialise in Daemon hunting. They are a super looking marine force. Then Dark Angels.

The Emperors Imperial Guard all the way.
They humans, they have the worst kit, theres infinite variety, they have awesome veterans and storm troopers. Tanks, paratroopers.
They have it all, love them!

When your going fluff wise its just hard to beat Grey Knights. The most elite of all Marines. Plus Sister of Battle are just fun to play with..."Your using a bunch of girls?"...2 hours later..."I just got my but beat by a bunch of girls"

DAEMONHUNTERS AND WITCH HUNTERS 4 LIFE!

Marines, IG, Eldar, and Nids are cool to :)

Despite not having won a single game with them so far, I am totally in love with Tau at the moment. Perhaps that's just the new army (for me) syndrome or I'm just happy to play/paint something different after playing Eldar for a decade.

Necrons seem to be neglected.

Im quite amazed Orks are so popular here even if there arent many orkish players.

I think daemonhunters are the best army. They have really good unit, even though they many cost a bit.
I also have some Imperial Guard that allie with my daemonhunters.

The Eldar Aspect warriors are the models that made me look at 40K in the 1st place.
The marines were all nifty and all but the Aspect warriors were the bomb. I still use the first Aspect models in my current army as they are still beautiful. (tho I am switching out for some new scorps I think cause the buck toothed look wasn't so great :( )

Easily the Eldar. The models, the fluff the style of play. There are alot of awesome armies out there that I have played with over the years but I always return back to the Eldar.

Necrons seem to be neglected.

I think Necrons are neglected because their army list is so boring. They have only one HQ choice and one Troops choice, and there aren't any upgrades or options for Warriors. The background is kinda cool, but there's just not enough love in their codex.

Orks have a similar problem at the moment. Their background is great, their units are neat, but they, too, are lacking the color that orks should have. The "clan list" that was published in WD way back when was a step in the right direction; it offers the chance to make Ork armies a little more distinctive, "clannish". But the models have been hurtin' too. I totally want to do up a Death Skulls army at some point, but the current codex is too bland, and if I use the clan rules, some of the core miniatures I'd need are needlessly difficult to put together, because lootas would need to be done up with a LOT of conversions and bits, which gets expensive, not to mention time-consuming, for a unit that needs to be huge just to even fill out a 500 point list...

I'm not sure I should be hopeful for clan-based rules in a new Ork Codex, given that they totally punted on Craftworld-specific rules in the Eldar Codex... But maybe they'll do something similar to what they did with Wraithguard, which is to give some units options of being counted as Troops "on condition"... which would help mix up the army composition...

It has to be Eldar, at first when i started playing 40k i was a chaos man through and through, but with the latest release these guys rock. I really like the balance you have to achieve to play well with them and the new harlequins just look great!:D

His Divine Majesty's most holy and righteous Imperial Guard, whose guns protect the Imperium, whose tanks crush its enemies; whose artillery destroys the creations of the heretic.

Why? They're human. :)

Currently it has to be Tyranids. They're easily the most enjoyable army to play with IMO, as you always feel like the underdog. And when it unravells in the last turn and you get a comfortable victory it's always as much as a surprise to me as it is for my opponent which is always a refreshing experience. :D
