Right ho!

After seeing Pat's Khador Kos Mining Colony board (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78098) I've decided to do my own version (altho probably not as good!) for my Cornish Dwarfs (see here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74523)). The idea being I'd like to do something along the lines of pats board but not quite as industrialised, with an old Cornish tin mine style to it. I'd also like to go for a bit of an abandoned theme on it so I can use it for my skaven as well.
So without further ado I've look across the net to find some decent images of Cornish mines (will take some real photos as soon as I get a day off work!!).

Thats just a few images to get some ideas etc for what I'm looking to achieve with the buildings.
I've spent a bit of time planning the board (in that most amazing program MSPaint!). It still looks a little like Pats board but then, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Plan (with my 1337 Paint skillz!!!11!1oneone!!1):
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o131/such_the_fool_2007/untitled.jpg

Hopefully you get the idea - its going to be on a 6'x4' board made up of 4 3'x2' pieces (for ease of storage more than anything else) and will be bi-sected as shown. Most the ground will be a sort of moorland scrub with snowy patches and a dirt track as shown. The train track will hopefully follow the plan above as long as I can find the right sections and can work out the rough scale, 00 N etc (does anyone know this?)

More updates soon as I take some pics of my partially constucted buildings.

Cheers
W.W.

very interesting project. Can't wait to see progress. I like game boards that look like our planet looks today. Doesn't have to be Sci_Fi all the time.

Every dwarf deserves a nice mine to defend!

Hey if'n you don't mind, I'll be keeping an eye on your progress.
I um ... I was daydreaming at work about making a scenery set for my Squats, something with railways, scafolding, stone outer buildings, buildings in mountains.
Any way, I plan on secretly stealing some of your ideas .... did I say that out aloud?

Thanks for the replies and encouragement guys.

No problem - I've already used another board on this forum for the 'inspiration' for this project - the more good looking boards out there the better!

I've snapped a few pics of the wip buildings, the large shed, the railway loading building and the chimney. I've built them out of balsa wood and I'll be ordering some textured plasticard (stone wall effect) to put on the outside.

Hope you like em:

Railway tower (missing roof as I ran out of wood!)

Chimney

I'll hopefully be getting the wood for the base of the board during the week so I can start on the rest of the project.

Cheers

Looking forward to this. I would advice you to move some of the stuff around, so it's all (i e every piece) firmly based on one board. Especially the unloading building, having that spread out on four boards sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Good luck! :)

are you going to make a tapered chimney like in the pics?

Tall, like it. Is that all balsa wood and MDF board?

Yeh I agree with you their, I might make the trak go a little more to the left so the tower is all on the left hand boards. I'll have to re-draw the plan and re-arrange things a little.

I'd like to - only realised when you pointed it out that my chimney doesn't look anything like the one in the photos. Need to find something the right shape to make it out of. Any ideas?

Yep all balsa wood and will be an mdf base, only cardboard at the moment - need to go shopping!

I think they might sell Floral foam in cone shapes.
you sould cut a hole in the center and slip it over your pipe.
I supose you sould make it out of card board, but its prety hard.

Finally pulled my finger out and bought the boards for this project. They didn't have the 2'x3' boards in but they did have 2'x4 so I bought 3 of them to lay side by side to give me the 4'x6' I need.
Train track arrived from ebay yesterday and I went out and got the things I thought I'd need, polystyrene, polyfiller, sand, glue, paint etc.
Going to spend today sticking the sand to the boards and painting everything up (as long as it doesn't rain all day!).
Pics later today hopefully.

After waiting for the rain to stop all weekend I've managed to get one third of my board based.

I've also been working on a couple of other bits for the board:

Trees

And a new idea I've had - abandoned quarry

The top of the mine looks smooth, or is that just the pic? Love the look of the railway lines. Keep up the good work, I keep checking for progress here!!
