How long have you been playing 40k, including breaks from the hobby i.e. from when you first took up 40k to now :)

EDIT: This probably belongs elsewhere but I couldn't think of anywhere to put it - sorry mods/admins :)

So why did you ask this question?

RavenMorpheus
03-05-2007, 01:14
I'm interested to know how long people have been playing? Maybe this belongs in Random Musings. I dunno, it's 40k related and it makes a change from the I hate/love threads/polls

Tymell

*Chuckles* 10+ years here (11 to be exact). Which brings it to one vote for each, how neat ;)

About six years, I think...perhaps a little less.

03-05-2007, 01:30
Hooked/collecting since I first saw the 'Renegades' cover, the one with the World Eaters advancing over ruins with three daemon engines in the background.
And then came 'Codex: Chaos', 1996 right?

What can I say? I'm a sucker for minis with horned helmets. Big brutal guns? Just a bonus.

11 years for me and still going.

Became interested in about 1995-96 and started in 1997. So 10 years of playing exactly.

I still have the 2nd edition starter kit including the cardboard cut out Dreadnought.

13 years for me. More than half my life actually.

Marine_Player
03-05-2007, 01:54
I have played off and on for 18 years! I still have 20-30 models of the really old plastic beaker marines with the strange missle launchers. I also have a couple of squads of the old lead terminators.

I have played most consistently over the past three years.

I have been colecting/ lurking for a while but have played for under a year.

Sincity
03-05-2007, 02:02
Well , 20 years or so , I started in late '86 or early '87 (who really remembers these things ?). Have held on to a pair of Marines on grav-boards and a Dreadnought armed with graviton guns so as to remember when this game was real fun.

03-05-2007, 08:01
Few games of RT, thought the rules sucked and it would never catch on...

So this would mean I know nothing.

Did like my mates 'Mickey Mouse' marines (complete with ears), so got some plastics and did Womble Marines in grey, with tan hands, feet and beak. Sweet.

Did nothing until Epic and Space Marine, when the rules were good, and picked up 40k in 4th, when it beacme the only game in town. Tried playing one Marine to one base using Epic rules? Works a treat.

03-05-2007, 08:46
Should probably have voted 10+ since I played exactly 1 game using the Rogue Trader rules back in '88 or so. Played a lot more fantasy during "the early years". Was away from all things Warhammer until 2000 and have been playing since then.

Well my first White Dwarf was 114, around 1989, I have been collecting and losing battles ever since. So about 18 years since buying my first models, 16 since my first proper game (my Orks (Bad Moonz) Vs my brothers IG). He still usually beats me.

10+ Years for me. Bought my first white dwarf 205 and some blood angels, a captain with bolter, two death company, two paints a brush and glue all for less than 10, just over 10 years ago. I must confess to having a 4year break during the teen years though.

Started with D&D and games like that at14 or so, then one of our group brought this new cool game we'd never heard of called warhammer. We played with cutout pieces of paper......
14 years for me, with a 2 year break in the middle. Just under half my life! (almost 29 now)

gitburna
03-05-2007, 16:45
Ooof, its about 15 years now.
Started out with Epic, titans, marines and Orks, and my brother had some chaos and Imperial guard, then soon after started on my Eldar for 40k, just before the 2nd edition boxed set came out. The few games of rogue trader we played seemed to take an awfully long time to play. 2nd Edition was a bit simpler and quicker, and had some of the most memeorable games, but it was all very Herohammer. I liked 3rd edition a lot, i didnt powergame and the few powergamers i came up against in the store put me off playing in there. Ran my own tournament about 6 years ago which was cool :)

Now im just starting work on my 12th or so 40k army, and just getting back into playing Necromunda agian, what a great game. The best thing about it is how the power level is just so much lower, i was quite perturbed when i found my goliath gang couldnt take lasguns as starting weapons in the new edition :)

I'm only 17!

Am I obsessed? *looks worried*

Nice break from the other types of polls that are posted (yes, and I am guilty of a few of those ), it has been about 3-4 years since my friend sucked me in, never look back! :)

RavenMorpheus
04-05-2007, 08:59
It just occured to me that I haven't voted in my own poll, doh!

Ancient_Conflict: I wouldn't worry about feeling old, my beards so long people mistake me for a 5' 3" dwarf :D

I've been playing 40k since RT came out, a year or two after anyway, I was 10 or 11!

Along with WFRP and a bit of WFB, alongside most of the specialist games.

40K? Hmm, about 8 years I think. I played fantasy for some time before I started 40K.

2 years or so. "for the greater good!" and.. "there number is legion and their name is death"

hehe.

can't really think of a space marine quote at the moment. other than "grrr charge grrr"

d&d 10 years. (which is almost half my life *L*)

videogames... I think I learned to play them before I could walk lol!

funnest thing ever. beating an oldy after he says something like "I've been playing almost as long as you have been alive.. expect to lose" or knowing the rules better than an oldy.. thats pretty fun too.

I like the minis most of all. *particularly non metal necron ones that you have to buy individually.... spend more money on 10 pariah and 4 wraiths than you do an entire necron army wtf! no thanks!)
