So I was wondering if any of you astute players of Necromunda have tried a roleplaying style of game or are you all just playing gang warfare campaigns?

If you do/did, how well did it work for you? Any tips for me? Am I mad?

Not sure if this answers your question but Dark Heresy (40k RPG) should be getting released next year. I was considering using that to do an RPG set on Necromunda. A very similar style to all the Necro novels. Small groups of people working together rather than gang fighting.

I don't know if that's what you meant though. The Necro tabletop rules could have extra detail added to bring thgem up to RPG status but you'd be better off getting a proper RPG system and just use the Necro background with it I'd think.

I know what you mean by a more in depth RPG and am awaiting to hear some 'good' reviews on Dark Heresy before I tread down that path.

I've got the Shadowrun rules which IMO are greatly suited to Necromunda (tune down the Riggers, Mages, Deckers and the cyber just a little) but was after a more of a 'one player controls the group in a quick game plus and excuse to make some unique models and add some lived in terrain for my desert tables' kinda game.

I thought the Necro rules would cater to a 'back in my day' game with a party of 6 or so, losing characters and coming across others ala Pool of Radiance, Champions of Krynn, except in a future setting (Blasted zombie wastes yay).

EDIT: (By the way, there's only me and another, the missus, who would be playing, other wise a gruop of players would be better suited to a more lengthy system. With our scedule and the 2 infants it's damn hard to find even an hour to play.)

Inquisitor is a possibility. It's basically an updated version of Confrontation, the original Necromunda game. It may suit your needs.

This should be your first port of call: Specialist Games (http://www.specialist-games.com/inquisitor/default.asp) to download the Rulebook and any extras you might want.

Free downloadable rulebook is worth it just for a read even if you don't use it for your RPG.

Warseer has an Inquisitor Forum here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=96). There are many people who will be happy to offer you advice on running campaigns. You are looking to attract the attention of Precinct Omega or Charax. They are far more knowledgable than I.

I have played Inquisitor since it was released and love it but am no good at the GM side of things.

Yeah, except Inquisitor isn't really an RPG, more of a small scale skirmish game. At least that's what the guys at Specialist Games said. I suppose you could use the system for battles only and roleplay the rest.

Yeah we decided on using Necromunda for the battles and roleplay the rest.

If I finally get enough models done I'll let ya's know how it goes!

I've always liked the idea of an Inquisitor campaign based on Necromunda. Specifically, each player plays a member of a band of hired guns or something. The game does have the potential for a light RPG, but it does need a wealthy and good GM to run it.

since the rules arnt relative measurements/ scale is a question of prefence
so you could just use 40k ( converted/personalised) models for inquisitor.
which would cut out the problem of terrain. me and my friends tried it and it worked fine.

I dunno, both Inquisitor and the upcoming RPG take the viewpoint of an inquisitorial type. Not sure if the ruleset will be sufficiently flexible.

I tried to get through the Fantasy battle RPG, but just didn't like the system much. The Devs are such a dark and dismal lot that one of their bragging points for the game was that there weren't any happy endings. Hell, I LIKE happy endings.

I'd think that any number of the modern era of D20 systems should convert. I mean, isn't that the whole point of D20? That it can be made to do anything?

I wouldn't think it would be impossible for somebody with your imagination to convert one of the generic D20, GURPS, or Hero System sets to Necro style play.

a friend of mine did a kitbash of WFRP and Inquisitor which proved fairly successful in playtesting, including one campaign set on Necromunda.

Another system that works remarkably well somewhere between miniatures-based skirmish game and full-blown RPG is the Savage Worlds (http://www.peginc.com/Games/Games.htm) ruleset. It's non-setting-specific, and would work out great for a game set in Necromunda. You can even play a few games with the Quick Start rules alone, but I can vouch for the quality of the full ruleset.
