Really great camo on the Tau. And that Inq-scale Lord is amazing!

04-07-2007, 03:12
Lets see, a few questions and comments.

Is your chaos army based on the Pyre? (if so, good show I've only seen one other person do the Pyre)
awesome 54mm chaos lord

The assassin looks great.

The pathfinders are great looking, the primer could be much better tho, lots of patchiness, and you cut up sniper drones, the poor loyal little robots got the axe :)

04-07-2007, 08:00
Best Tau sniper conversion I've seen so far!

06-07-2007, 17:49
norsehawk: the army is inspired by, but not based on the pyre. the colour scheme is all that was lifted. an extensive background to the Fallen Vipers chapter exists, unfortunately for you most of it is in my head.

RE the pathfinders, i agree with you, the primer is s***e and the reason is that exactly halfway through the first coat my bottle changed from pshhh to pffffff, ie. the bottle went empty. have finished them off since though.

I have finished the vindicare, and have nearly done a hammerhead that has evaded the log so far.

Pics to follow!

16-07-2007, 19:08
the Vindy is finished, and heres the elusive hammerhead, plus a look at the desk.:

the head:

its hull anyways.

an enginseer project with 6 colours (thats the plan anyway):

The general junk:

Screaming Evil
13-08-2007, 21:25
Amazing stuff dave, this actually might have inspired me to get out my chaos again just so i can play against some of that stuff.

The camo on the tau, and the tau conversions in general are awsome!! How long does it take usually to do the camo on a single trooper?

13-08-2007, 21:45
i do them in batches of two. and i can (on a good day) have the camo down, shaded, highlighted in about 25 minutes. XV8s take nearer an hour for the entire cam set. tanks can take 10-15 hours.

13-08-2007, 22:08
Some photos of my standard tau foot troops:

that isnt really foot troops, but hey.

14-08-2007, 08:28
I'm loving the splinter camo, works brilliantly with Tau!

14-08-2007, 08:58
I like the camo in the tau, especially effective on the tanks... do you mask off areas to get a nice sharp edge, or do you free hand it?

14-08-2007, 13:39
i freehand it. takes ages but is worth it in the end.

14-08-2007, 14:02
ireally like the =][= scale marine as well as the converted terminator - looking forward to seeing them painted :p

Lord Cook
14-08-2007, 15:21

Good luck for tomoz btw man

15-08-2007, 21:13
everything looks great!!!! I love the Inquisitor scale chaos lard! keep it up Dave!

16-08-2007, 09:43
thx. its results day today *gulps* if i fail never mind, if i pass, then the painting standard will probably suffer a slight dip (hangovers :p)

17-08-2007, 22:12
3 As 1 C!!!!!!! XD there is going to be a party tomoro nite. o yeah :D

21-08-2007, 17:18
A few varied things for you today seers of war.

My project so bueatifully inspired by jak and daxter and the wonderful fantasy hex tiles that came free in WD (i got 2 issues for some reason :D ) this is an Adeptus Mechanicus Research Station which can support 1 battleship or 1 cruiser and 2 light cruisers/escorts. the actual hex tile is an ancient dark age relic with systems of a complexity approaching that of the blackstones.

The station:

http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j188/dave38x/40k/ (http://http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j188/dave38x/40k/)

I just bought an AM light cruiser 2 go with the station. :)

21-08-2007, 17:22
Congrats on the exams Dave, and the space station is looking good!

Lord Cook
22-08-2007, 11:48
I really like the space station, although when I first saw it I thought it looked like a sort of artificial environment, with forests and such like down on the surface of the station. If anyone's seen the new Battlestar Galactica, think of Cloud Nine.

22-08-2007, 11:56
the idea is that its an ancient artificial environ platform in deep space that the AM have found in their quest for endless knowledge and grabbed, adding on modern equipment to form a large space station. More stuff to follow, im starting to paint it this afternoon will get some pics up as soon as possible!

22-08-2007, 12:03
Your Tau are incredible, I love that camo scheme, it really suits them. Your pulse rifles look more hard edged for some reason.

The space station is terrific, can't wait to see more.

22-08-2007, 13:37
Great stuff, love the Inquisitor Chaos Lord.

And you use Revell Contacta! Great glue delivery system.

Death Korp
22-08-2007, 14:41
Everything looks ace (especally the tau and the chaos boyz) , but that Ship reminds me of Cloud Nine Lord Kook, from BSG.

23-08-2007, 09:07
guess ill have to watch a bit more BSG (only seen the film)

04-09-2007, 18:53
Some BFG action for you people as of late. i have finished my AM light cruiser, and have put it on next to an Emperor class battleship which i completed ages ago but you get to see anyway. sorry the shots arent up to the usual standard. enjoy!

and a link:

05-09-2007, 01:41
Dave: the BFG ships are looking good, some of my friends play and it's alot of fun, but I'm hooked into my BA and Lotr right now! keep it up! and maybe we'll see some tau and some more of that space station?

05-09-2007, 18:07
ice: the tau are somewhat on the backburner at the moment. my life is the model i have for you today: for those of you that have painted models for a certain competition, does this sound familiar?

you decide on the model you are going to enter in january. you then aquire the parts and start work, and the assembly is finished by june. the model is then undercoated, and gathers dust till mid august. in mid august, you decide you had better start painting, but realise that you have way too little time and so switch projects for the competition. the beginning of september rolls round, and with 2.5 weeks to go, the model needs a lot of work.

this, ladies and gentlemen, is my entrance in the UK Golden Demon 2007 40k single mini, entitled Hexantii, Commander of "The Omnissiah's Treasure"

Omnissiahs Treasure is the light cruiser i have displayed, incidentally.

Here he is, the pics are not too good. (cheap cameras for the lose!)

05-09-2007, 22:00
he is great, the gold is superb

06-09-2007, 17:59
That is a very nice techpriest!
Lovin the scheme

07-09-2007, 07:35
dave: how'd you do that gold? or better yet how'd you do that red?

10-09-2007, 08:32
Thankyou for the comments, he is almost done. I spent 5 hours on sunday doing the backpack. i admit, i gave in and drybrushed it but nevermind.

@ ice: The red is as follows:

The entire model is given two coats of thin humbrol number 33 matt black paint. this i find is better than acrylic for the undercoat as it does not peel, is not as shiny and preserves far more detail.

A thing scorched brown undercoat is applied. then a tiny amount of blood red is added, and almost the entire cloak highlighted. add a bit more red, and repeat.

2 hours and 20-30 coats later, the mix has reached 1:2 brown to red. i then added in a minute dot of fiery orange and start to highlite the edges. the paint is extremely thin which means that the bright colour isnt too obvious. 5 progressively smaller highlights are applied, and the cloak is done.

Metalic paints are slightly more forgiving, as they naturally have a degree of transparency to them. all of the metal exept the wrench on the end of the axe is undercoated tin bitz. then his armour is highlighted up using brazen brass till the mix reaches 1 tin bitz: 2 brass. a slight amount of chainmail is then worked into the highlights.

the shaft of the axe, the spike and his face mask are highlighted by blending shining gold with tin bitz. rivets and edges highlighted with 1:1 chainmail shining gold.

the metal is all done using variants on a theme: work the colour up with tin bitz and boltbun metal, highlight by adding mithril silver in.

all rivets are highlighted with neat chainmail. the axe grips are then washed 1:1:2 brown ink:dark green ink:water

for definition brown ink is worked into all cracks and crevases.

and there you have it. come and see it on display at GD UK! i am thinking of painting the base black, lining the edges with codex grey and gloss varnishing it to reflect the model. the entire model will be varnished matt. will put some pictures up tonight!

22-09-2007, 13:55
Wish me luck people, tomorrow is golden demon. Just having some last minute rebasing nightmares...:skull:

22-09-2007, 14:12
Well good luck Dave38x, may the machinegod be with you.

22-09-2007, 14:17
thanking you novogord, the entry form lies in front of me...

03-10-2007, 19:46
Terribly sorry about the lack of updates lately. i just havent had time to do anything. have been working on a piranha though. when i can get a chance, i will put some photos up.

09-10-2007, 18:37
An update finally:

here are some alternative payload seeker missiles ive been working on:

a new piranha: (2 to go)

a skyray turret for my hammerhead:

and some pathfinders:

09-10-2007, 20:16
Very cool
Hope to face them with the Death Korps soon
I see a slow infantry advance with bayonets fixed into your guns with my eventually overrunning your position through sheer willpower
Beaucoup de casualties either way so whatever:D

18-11-2007, 17:57
well, i would have some more models for you to look at, specifically a devilfish, some pathfinders and a piranha but my camera seems to have gone missing in the last 15 minutes.

Lord Cook
18-11-2007, 20:00
--Lord Cook can't talk right now because he's busy rappelling down the side of dave38x's house, camera in hand. If he could talk he'd say that the camo on the Tau is as sweet looking as ever.--

*warm glowy feeling*

i found the camera, so your lust for winter camo can be sated. the camera was hiding under two tanks worth of the stuff! really need to paint less effective camo...

the second piranha in its wintery completeness:

A new battlesuit:

19-11-2007, 19:32
the skyray turret:

And my pride, the interior of my second devilfish:

satisfied your urge lord cook? :p

Lord Cook
19-11-2007, 22:46
satisfied your urge lord cook? :p

No camo will ever be perfectly satisfactory, because if it actually worked as intended I wouldn't be able to see the models, giving me nothing to look at.

But yeah this comes close ;). Nice work on the interior of the piranha, you've made good use of what appears to be an ink wash. Same goes for the devilfish.

More important question; Where is that Imperial Navy Thunderbolt pilot and when are we going to see him painted?

19-11-2007, 23:14
I really like the tau camouflage scheme. I think i've said so before, the interior is fantastic also. good work :)

19-11-2007, 23:27
Those tau are really nice I love the camo.

20-11-2007, 10:45
lord cook: The pilot is with my other forgeworld models: sitting in a box, in their packaging. and every time i open the box and look at them they say "you cant paint us, your not good enough, you would spoil us!"

i feel guilty just looking at them.
