View Full Version : Painting AI Canopies/Windows

Did a bit of searching and discussion seems to centre on what to do with Eldar canopies in their wave serpents...

But what I'm looking for any guides/tips/techniques on how to paint convincing canopy effects on the AI models..

Specifically I'm looking on how to do it on a Chaos Helltalon (the bomber plane) and to do it in yellow (my Chaos planes are based upon The Decepticon Skywarp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:G1_Skywarp.jpg))

I figure I'd start here and if needed get moved to Painting and Terrain figuring that people playing AI would know exactly what I'm talking about...

for the most part, tinted sky/earth reflective looks good. for example if you wanted it to look like medium grey tinted glass, paint them grey. Mix a blue grey to paint in the top half, blend that to lighter blue/grey towards the middle line. after this, paint the middle line on the bottom half dark grey/black and blend down to the grey colour at the bottom. After that is all done, you can paint white specular highlight dots and lines at the tops or middles of the windows if need be.

However chaos bombers are meant to be filled with noxious gasses and piloted by 3 servitors. What i did for mine was to create a blendig from dark green at the bottom to bright green at the top, paint in a dark shadow for the pilots in each window, and then paint in bright green dots for glowing eyes.

easy enough to change the colours to brown --> orange --> yellow.

Excellent explanation and excellent pics to go along with it! My Thanks!

I'll post pics of my planes when the whole squadron is completed.

Cool :) experiment on paper if you are unsure or want to come up with something new!
