View Full Version : EmperorNorton's "Trying To Get Something Done" project log

01-06-2007, 15:19
Hey everybody!
Since I probably have thousands of miniatures lying around, but somehow haven't been able to paint up something presentable so far, I decided I should start a project log.
A more specific goal certainly wouldn't hurt, but currently I'd settle for getting anything done.

Here is the current disarray of my painting area:

Before I can start on a more orderly project my first goal will be to finish all the half-painted stuff you see there.
Devoting an hour every day to painting should not be a problem and I hope that the feedback here will keep me motivated.

I started to paint some trolls yesterday, so my first update will probably about them.

Good luck! What minis/armies/stuff do you have?

I have Bretonnians, Dwarfs, Orcs & Goblins, Wood Elves and Dark Elves for Fantasy.
Recently I started a Black Templars army for 40K and then I have several Blood Bowl teams to finish.

I'm not a very good painter, so I'm always looking for advice.
Here are some examples of my painting:

Better painter than me -_-. looks good, though i don't like teh red hair on the WE, but that's just me.

aw. howcome I can't see the pictures? :(

those orc cheerleaders will definitely scar me for life.

one advice is to blend more. you did a bit with the "chest" area of the blue human players and towels of the orc cheerleaders and you can see it softens up the mini a bit.

Thanks for the kind words.
I'll try to blend more, but I find that hard to do. Well, I won't get better at it when I don't practice.

aw. howcome I can't see the pictures? :(
That I do not know.
Judging from the comments I gather others do not have that problem.

I just finished my first troll:

He looks a bit better in person than in the pictures. They make him look like he's spewing flame, but of course that is not the case.
I'll try to get my remaining three trolls done this week.

Is these the new Trolls or... other Trolls? Hordes?

The model is from Gamezone.

to be fair i think it looks like your in the similar boat to me!

Painting wise everything is neat, using techniques well... its just having the courage to jump in feet first and try something big and complex. see how it pans out. Moneys on "better than you think"

06-06-2007, 20:21
What would you consider to be big and complex?

10-06-2007, 08:31
A dragon would be nice to see :D. Your paintings amazing and id love to see more. keep it up and more pictures please!

10-06-2007, 10:00
I have started both a dragon and a giant, so chances are you'll see some big stuff in here sometime.
For the moment I just have my trolls and they aren't even finished yet, although I had hoped to get them done today. However, family matters will keep my occupied (in fact I should be making lunch right now instead of posting).
Since there are only details missing I'll show my progress anyway. The pictures are a little too dark, sorry about that.

wow :D pretty good skills you have there padawan , may one have linkage to the gamezone website please :D

10-06-2007, 15:51
Here's your linkage (http://www.gamezoneminiatures.de/index.php/language/en/XTCsid/3e41c6050924415d969b844ac28b06d3).

(I've seen this store (http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/shop/) recommended on this site for international orders. I happen to order from them, too - although not internationally, of course - and they are nice and have good service.)

Update: The troll swinging the dead horse just broke of his base. :cries:

18-06-2007, 15:34
Although I was able to repair the broken troll nearly seamlessly this accident somewhat stole my thunder.
So I had to force myself today to spend some time painting.
I'm almost done now, just a few details and a little correction to do, but I can't say that I'm all too happy with my results.

Enough with the trolls already!

While I was avoiding the trolls last week I painted this little guy for one of the players of my D&D group:

The size and the flashlight are more revealing than I'd like, though. But I like the way his cape turned out:

Other party members:
(Not a good picture, he looks better in person. I tried to give every scale of his armour a different colour to give him a rainbow look.)

Today I put the finishing touches on some Dryads, although they were pretty much done anyway:

These Slayers, which I have put a lot of effort into so far without it showing, will be my next task:

Once these are done I think I'll just put away what's left on my table and start an actual project.
It'd be nice to field a fully painted army for once.
