I've been reading the rule book and there's mention of plastic models coming with the box set. Are these detailed GW plastic models we are all familiar with or something else?

The the GW store sells the metal models, at least they look metal--but again the book shows some detailed gray plastic models where pictures on ebay show bland all-white models. Any insight?

No these are not the new detailed plastic models that everyone has gotten use to. The newest BB model is at least 4 to 5 yrs old. the plastic models that came in the box set don't possess that great of detail compared to GW new plastic molds. And they have very static poses.

The ones for sell at GW online store are plastic or metal?

all the teams in the online store are metal

the 2 teams in the boxed game are plastic.

Not greatly detailed but I like the 'character' of them :)

If your after Orcs - alot of people buy 40K Orks and with a very small amount of work youve got a 'modern' orcy team

Like EE said, pillaging the WHFB models is your best bet.

But he said 40k. I liked the look of the BB orcs on GW's website though.

Here's some pictures of the Blood Bowl plastic Orcs that come with the box set:

and Throwers

I reckon they look good enough for general purposes. The Human Team are of a similar quality.

For some variety I'm getting some metal BB Orcs as well, but the plastics are perfectly adequate in my view.

But I made my Orc team with WHFB Orcs.

I said 40K because they have more armour and 'blood bowl style' boots and trousers.

But as Th0r said - the WFB Orcs are good too.

I'm in the process of making an Orc Blood Bowl team, using a mix of WHFB Orcs and 40k Orks bitz (plus a few bits from the Blood Bowl box set!).

Most other teams can be made with WHFB bits and a little imagination! ;)

I am also in the works of making my own BB teams.. One human, one Beasts team.. So far I only have one model painted but they are coming out quite nicely.

If you are handy with GS then its a breeze to convert existing models into BB goons.. My humans are based off of the Cadian 40k Boxset, and my Beasts will be made from a single Herd boxset.

I attached some WIP and the Thrower below for examples of what I am working on..

Those are some nice custom teams!

Heres the High Elf team I'm working on right now. It's made entirely from a HE Archer box set (plus a few bitz).

I've used the plastic humans for the basis of a good deal of my Bretonnian Blood Bowl team, they're a bit converted, but you can see the quality of the original sculpt in there anyway.

The upper left has the bottom portion of an original head, and the bottom one has a stock body (as of that photo) minus the Eagle shoulder pad, and Eagle belt buckle.

Well, regardless, the sculpt is better than what I was thinking. I was thinking they were just like paper cut outs or something similar. The plastic pieces make the price of the game seem very reasonable.

With that said, I still want to spend the money on getting metal models... what the hell is wrong with me?

If you want to know the history of all blood bowl figures, both GW and non GW, check this site out:
http://www.blood-bowl-miniatures.de/

Parts are in German and English, but it has all the pictures of the figures, and what edition they came out for. Also has special stuff like NAF Dice and Home made Pitches.
