Hey all.

I've finally managed to make some headway towards having a new legal guard force and to back it I've pulled out almost 4000 words of fluff in a few hours of madness.

The basic overview is that the world is a mining world which has been taken over by zombies and mutants thanks to a virus bombing. So the entire population was evacuated and the military are working on clearing the planet and it's depths.
There are several moons that have been evacuated to. There's agri worlds, industrial and urban as well as a political moon and one dedicated to the military.
Now I wanted an excuse to take conscripts and my justification is that there are bands of civilians who want to be involved in the cleansing of their homes. So I'm looking for any suitable minis to represent these bands of fighters.

I've had a couple of ideas and wanted to run some of them by you.

One of the moons the people evacuated to was dedicated to agriculture and I got to thinking what someone from this setting would look like and what preparations would they make to prepare them for war.
I came up with these minis from Black Scorpion.

Outlaws
BLACK SCORPION (miniatures) (http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/product.asp?the_range=TOMB&product=TOMB18)
I thought these fitted hard folk who were ready for what they were coming up against.

These guys fitted the hard bitten look and I liked their variety. Not sure how well they'll look alongside my cadians though. My troops are painted with Shadow Grey Fatigues and Black Armor, I could do a similar thing with these and they wouldn't look quite so western.

Some of these look like they could make a decent mlitia but now we're they're looking much more like trained combatants...

Then I found this page...
Foundry 28mm Street Violence (http://www.thewarstore.com/foundry28mmstreetviolence.html)

So I'm still working out what to do... I may field an ordinary infantry platoon made up of these or maybe a last chancers squad or 3...

So does anyone have any other proposals for militiaish minis that could work?

Cheers

Not sure on the minis meself...

Only problem I can see with your background is that a world thats virus bombed has no organic life left. Anything on the planet is either affected and destroyed or survives by hiding underground. Zombies don't happen in a virus bombing as there is no body left once the firestorm scorches the planet dry...

Virus bombing is explained in more detail in the HH books...

I explained it in detail in the 4000 or so words which will go online somewhere when it's all done and readable...

The idea is that massive religious cults were claiming large areas of the population and the Government evacuated the planet of all loyalist forces and civilians and turned a new experimental virus bomb on the planet. It was designed to target human DNA and leaving the stock left on planet alive and unharmed.
I really should get around to posting it...

What about Necromunda gangers? Mind you, the style might not fit people from a agi-world so much.

your wrong, that was a two part/stage attack on Istvann III, read flight of enstien to see how it would turn people into zombies... ;) it could be possible that a lesser virus was used, that would not completly destroy all organic matter, maybe a virus tailored to kill certain parts of the ecosystem/population would sound better.

you could always use Warmachine Cygnar long gunners (http://www.privateerpress.com/WARMACHINE/gallery/thumbs/lrg-93-31010_long_gunners_blister.jpg)

they dont look to military and are abou the same scale.

Is it ok to use non-GW minis as conversion pieces for 40k models? I ask because I have been tempted to do something like this for my guard list too, but since GW has that copyright deal with the LOTR range, I figured it might carry over to 40k and non-GW produced minis.

Thanks for any answer ^^

Oh and, the Outlaws would make excellent Inquisitor retinue models, at least for me...for you they seem pretty awesome too ^^

Formarion - that depends on where you play. If you play in clubs or at home with your friends you can do whatever you like, using any figures you want. However if you play in GW stores or official GW tournaments they have the policy that you can only use GW figures, and can't use parts from other manufacturers in conversions.

Copplestone also came to my mind. Be aware that the sculptor worked under the brand "Grenadier" before:
