???
I don't mean to offend, but, that is a pretty narrow minded and uninformed comment!
have you heard of martial arts or military training?
Finesse and Blunt are not diametrically opposite or mutually exclusive.
if they are then any training with a non bladed weapon is utterly pointless as all you can do is flail wildly.
so if you are correct, then to be a true approximation any weapon that is not a sword, axe or spear should reduce its wielder to WS 1.
I'd give him a staff
as a force staff follows the same rules for a power maul it suggests that a maul and staff are interchangable.
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
None taken and yes I have ;) Just my personal view that is all and as english is not my native language I`ll settle for that explanation :)

Looking forward to what you guys do next!
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
Thanks for the feedback all. :) I've now finished the Prime and the first squad.

The Prime seems to have vanquished a noble warrior of the Astartes. I wonder which chapter he was from...? ;)
Bonesword Warriors will be next on the painting bench I think...

True, but I tried a light brown for the hilt earlier but it made the hilt look really big and the blade a bit flimsy. :/ I went for light blue in the end, hopefully that looks a little better. I do agree that it looked toy-like before. :)
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
very nice.
the 2nd ed warriors just don't get enough love these days.
I like the blue, but I think its a tad light now ;)
very subtle the way you've promoted him to prime by adding a little horn to his nose.
which squad is he going to lead?
(p.s. slow down! you are making the rest of us look bad :shifty: )

I pinched the nose horn idea from Graham. ;) He's going to lead the three Warrior death spitter squad, on the basis that the BS boost is more valuable than the WS boost, so no point putting him with the bone swords, and if he led the four Warrior death spitter squad then although more models would benefit, his squad would also be a much bigger and more tempting target.

Post some WIP pics! I know you have them. :)

I'd say go for it; I think the shuriken pistol completely ruins the visual balance of the model. I daresay, a pointing finger would be a drastic improvement.

Strange Feet on Frigia
Eldar reinforcements prepare themselves for deployment on the surface.

Wearing quilted insulating overlayers, these Guardians are prepared for most that the Frigian surface can throw at them.

These Guardians are wearing a variety of headgear and cold-weather equipment, including alternative rebreather helms.

Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
love the cold weather guardians. its a good idea that works very well.
really interested to see how you paint their "quilted overlayers".
the rebreather hat is cool, but my favourites are the two chaps with flowing hair and "special issue chin warmers" ;)
very glad to see you have one of the cool "new" support weapons. I'm a big fan of the eldar support weapons but they are too readily discarded in favour of wraithlords.
had an eldar vs eldar game, wraithlords and wraithguard are no match for D cannon batteries (especially when you guide them and fire your barrages indirectly over LOS blocking scenery)!
all the support weapons cause pinning (vibro cannons have the rule and the other 2 are barrage weapons)
vibrocannons are excellent. like the D-cannons, they can deal with anything, the D cannons are more effective, but, vibrocannons have a better range. suppose the bonus to the shadow weaver is that it is half the cost of the others.
they should resurface due to the massive boost artillery got in 6th and the additional FO chart at 2000pts giving you many more heavy support slots to play with.
(I still think the shadow weaver should gain one of the cool new special rules. strikedown would be sweet and gives the impression of being webbed.)

Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
*Gulp*
That's a lot of bodies!
Cool to see some WIPs; I always like seeing how armies build up. The conversion work on the Apostle is very cleanly done, and it gives him a lot of Khornate character. It'll be interesting to see how a Khornate cult works, too – I like the background blurb.
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
@Bob: the purple and blue really lift the overall appearance. Good call mate!
@Apologist: super happy to see the Eldar army shaping up :)
@Lord Blood: where is that head on the Dark Apostle from? Can`t say I remember seeing it before. Other than that it all looks great as I`m also a fan of masses of cultists :)

its the alternative head for the fantasy "chaos lord of khorne on a juggernaut"
(I got a couple to add variety to my daemons back when the blood crushers were all metal)
not the easiest conversion as the dark apostle's head is actually molded to the body.
the khorne symbol on his back pack is snipped off the chaos lord's helm, so he actually has both heads :D
so glad that cultists are finally an option for chaos. it seemed daft that you could only take chaos marines or daemons but no "normal" humans. where is any true champion of chaos without a following of fanatical devotees?
also, I don't feel right without a decent number of bodies on the field (probably stems from my orky roots).
really like lots of the new units in codex:CSM (hence my start with cultists and a Dark Apostle), there are some great ideas and really nice models in the new range (and some terrible ones) expect to see my interpretations of my favourites as the log progresses.
my first wave of cultists have been recruited from the heating engineers who manage the thermal vents and channel the heat that makes life possible in the ravines of Frigia. so there will be emphasis on tools, heat protection and flamers.
the second wave are from the promethium mines (following the special mineral veins that wend their way through the ice of the planet's crust) so will be kitted out for the cold.
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
*Brrrrr!*
It's cold here in Kent – looks like the Dark Gods have shifted their eyes to Frigia...
Better start mobilising the reserves to investigate the rumours of rebellious Ravines.

Four more brave(ish) Guardsmen on their way. Ignore the goggle and skin colours; these were bought second-hand. The paint scheme was nice and thin, so I decided to paint straight over it. The foundation paint work nicely in covering previous efforts.

Cool idea to theme the cultists this way; it should fit really nicely into an overall aesthetic.

Nice! That's a truly imposing number of bodies on the field there! :D Great theme too. :)

You might want to start you search in the thermal vents. ;) These guys look good; with that colour scheme you could believe that the Steel Legion were intended to be in arctic combat uniforms all along.
Here's a small update from me. The Bonesword Warrior brood are now finished, so I'm two thirds of the way there on my first 500 points. :)

Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
really nice.
the contrast between the blue/white sword blades and the red/yellow bodies really pops.
is it the photo or are the blades slightly purple? (I hope they are)
they are really nice models, just look so wierd and alien, the old tyranids were fantastic models, limited options but fantastic.
I'm sure my Dark Apolstle and Apologist's Autarch will be a tad paranoid with all those boneswords hungering for a multi wound armoured target.
are you sticking to medium beasties or are you planning to expand into tiddlers and monsters in the later stages?

Cheers, actually no it's the light, but after I took the picture I was thinking that the swords might need a very light wash of blue. Might try purple instead, although I don't want to lose the bright tips.

I'll confess now, I will find it very difficult to hide my glee if they actually manage to catch a suitable well armoured multi-wound target. ;) Knowing the PCRC, I fully expect them to spend most of their time hacking their way through a never ending horde of Guardsmen-equivalents!

Medium for now, but a few bigger and smaller beasties will start appearing once I get to 1000 points or above. :)

have you thought about trying one of the new glazes?

pretty tricky as most multi wound beasties are practically naked. (ogryns, grotesques, raveners, etc) however, their Ld is propperly rubbish so if you wound them they will die horribly.
you might be in luck though. the Daemon rule in the rulebook no longer grants eternal warrior, so if they redo the codex and do not redress this their material manifestations may be vulnerable to tyranid mind blades (force weapons) which would be cool.
currently your best targets are obliterators, mutilators, grey knight paladins, and tyranid warriors.

Winter-gear Steel Legion looks great, and I'm looking forward to seeing Lord Blood's painted efforts. Lastly, pure nostalgia Bob Hunk, I remember that scheme in a picture with Tallarn Desert Raiders from back when I started.
