Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
These guys look like some very cool "bikers" Lucifer216, I like the wrist mounted storm bolters and possessed backpacks. How are you painting the steeds? 'Traditional' black or something more freaky and daemonic? I assume the steeds are actually daemonic gifts from the dark gods rather than mortal horses?
Have you decided what's in your first 500 points yet? You have quite a pool to draw from (which can be seen here for anyone who has missed them)! :p
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
The steeds are definitely going to be daemonic. I think I might paint them like my Bloodletters/Blood Crushers (black with glowing lava/magma effects).
Not sure really what will be in my first 500pts. It doesn't go that far so it might be a Lord, a squad in a rhino, some cultists and maybe an obliterator or two.

That would look great, be fitting for the background, and not draw too much attention away from the riders, who should probably be the focus. Because the armour scheme for your Word Bearers is fairly dark, that's probably an important thing to bear in mind. Besides, that scheme looks gorgeous!

Ah, fodder for the boneswords ;)
Are you not going to take the 3W 3A Apostle we discussed on the mailing list? Give him some cool background, and he'll soon build up a cool story through the campaign. :)
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
And you start this just as I rev up my own Steel Legion project. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one :)
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
Yay the PCRC are Back *squee* Sterling work so far as always guys!
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
Cheers :)
In preparation for the new Daemon Codex, which seems to have put a new emphasis on having Heralds leading units, I've had a go at converting Skulltaker to ride a Juggernaut (so he can lead my Bloodcrushers and not get picked out as easily as he would in a chariot). Here's how he has turned out pre-paint job.

Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
really nice pose.
The way he is hunching over the juggernaut, gripping tight, it makes him look like he is really thundering along.
And the angle of the sword suggests he is moments away from viciously striking down his foes.
it'll make a good focal point for the army.
I wonder if there is a way of basing him to enhance the suggestion of speed...
..deep gouges in the ground as its hooves kick up dirt...
...something getting battered aside by the beast as it crashes through...

Both good ideas. :)
I've nearly finish my last four Warriors (for this instalment), expect pics later in the week.
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
here are the first tester models for my cultists.
the idea is to make them look like a complete rabble, people from all walks of life bonded by their common belief fighting for a cause.
took a while working out the colours.
they are from an ice world. so I thought back to what people wore when I worked in the alps (ski seasons are cool), was going to go for the bright colours people associate with snow sports (the idea is to wear bright colours so people can find you easily if you get stuck). but then I thought about it and realized that most people just wear whatever colours are in fashion.
grimdark future, limited resources, I figure that bright colours will be expensive and hard to come by.
so some are in the snow camo of the local PDF, others will be workers from the ice mines wrapped up warm, others are the workers from the thermal vents that sustain life in the ravines, some are just common shop workers, might add in some rebel arbeities, and everyone is jumbled together in a big mob.
tried to make them look cold but driven by their fanaticism.

Those look awesome :) I particularly love the muted flesh-tones. Any chance of a how-to guide?
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia

here you go:
start with a base coat of Rakarth Flesh
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-J...0/DSC01167.JPG
then wash with Reikland fleshshade
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7...0/DSC01168.JPG
layer with Kislev Flesh
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x...0/DSC01169.JPG
highlight with 50/50 rakarth flesh and palid wych flesh. or 50/50 kislev flesh and palid wych flesh
this gives you the basic flesh colour, then I used glazes to do the, cold induced, blue and pink blotches.
glaze the indented areas with Guilliman Blue
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-d...0/DSC01170.JPG
glaze the raised areas with bloodletter
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q...0/DSC01174.JPG
the example model, above, was painted exactly as stated.
for subtler (and I think better) results dilute the wash and glazes (2:1 glaze:water is enough) before applying them. that way they change the tones and shades without visibly adding colours.
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
You've clearly put a lot of thought into the appearence of your "rabble" Lord Blood, and it's paid off as they look fantastic. :)
My first 500 points are now complete, just in time for the first Frigia games this weekend!

I had a slight problem with one of the washes drying grey in places, but apart from sorting that out they're essentially done.
I've put a guide to how I painted them on the PCRC website here, although this is as much to remind me later as to share the technique with everyone else. ;)
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
Troops choice 1
a mighty 155pts of cultists (including all the flamers and the champion's shotgun)
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m...0/DSC01175.JPG
on the whole I am pretty happy with them, but I will be phasing out the reds and blues as they are just too bright and eye catching.
Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
Looking great, Lord Blood. You could replace the blues with Fenris Grey, and the reds with Calthan brown (or whatever the equivalents are now). They're very muted, so wouldn't be so eye-catching, but will still keep a bit of hue in there.
Either way, they're looking lovely as is – a motley rabble that still works as a cohesive unit.

Well, must say I actually rather like the reds and blues making the unit pop. I'd say keep them. They're looking really good as is!

Re: The PCRC presents: Cold Feet on Frigia
Hola!
For those with an interest in the saga of Frigia, please allow me to introduce the newest faction to those lonely planets. A crusading force of Sisters of Battle belonging to the Order of the Unvanquished Night has arrived in-system to bring the laser-guided love of the Emperor to a people whose faith seems to be waning. The initial reconnaissance force, accompanying Confessor Pietruske Volon, has made planetfall in order to assess the allegiance of the locals.
Sadly I don't have a camera so photos will have to wait until the official PCRC first-round battle reports are posted, but here is the 500 point scouting force for public dissemination:
HQ:
Ecclesiarchy Confessor Pietruske Volon (power mace, plasma pistol).
Troops:
Battle Sister Squad (meltagun, heavy bolter, Superior has chainsword, bolt pistol and meltabombs).
Battle Sister Squad (meltagun, Superior has meltabombs).
Fast Attack:
5 Seraphim (two hand flamers, Superior has power sword and meltabombs).
By no means optimised, but it uses the currently available models. I've never played with or against Sisters before (never even looked at the codex until a month ago) so this is a huge learning experience for me. I know there's a lot of internet hate for the White Dwarf 'dex, but my first impressions are that it's a terrific codex. And the first two battles were absolutely magnificent!

Frigia - Act I
A Question of Faith
Sisters of Battle (warmtamale) vs. Iyanden Eldar (Apologist)
Purge the Alien (Hammer and Anvil deployment)
For too long the prayers of the Frigians have gone unanswered. Now, as the abominable Tyranids reach the thresholds of the Ravines and the decadent Eldar emrge like hoarfrost wraiths from the blizzards, we arrive to answer them! Truly we are a manifestation of the Emperor's timely beneficence. Show no mercy my children, for our enemies will grant us none! - Confessor Pietruske Volon
