Yeah, I like Vallejo's brush-on primer as well.
As for DBA: W00t! Excellent choice on minis too. Xyston are my favourites. I find painting 15mm figures to be not all too different to painting 28mm figures (especially with Xyston's), just faster, but you do essentially the same stuff. Only you have to do less. :D Me, I like DBA a lot. There are people who get introduced to it by DBA tournament players which usually makes them detest the game forever. It's a very tournament-suited game I believe, but you can still have fun. ;) The advantages are obvious: very little requirements in terms of space and investment, fast, elegant playing style, feels very 'Ancients' to me. Plus, you get the unique twist of rules which are written in an insane manner. :D It reads like it was translated by a panda from the original English version to Martian, to Binary and then back to English. Are you going to get the DBA3 rules? I hope they are easier to understand. But if you've got someone to explain them they're pretty easy to get into. In addition to that, there's always the Unofficial guide to DBA 2.2, which is a tremendous help: http://www.wadbag.com/DBAGuide/TheUn...DBA_single.pdf
Anyway, good start on the Numidian dudes. P&S fellas look nice too. Really like the cavalry commander with the warhammer!
Thanks Sigur. I have a copy of the 2.2 rules and have already bookmarked the Wadbag DBA Guide.:D
The cavalry hammer comes with the Warlord Cavalry kit but there are no open hands to put it in ; so I drilled out an arm holding a pistol and stuck it in there. They also have a carbine on the sprue; I am not sure what you are supposed to do with it either.
One of the bodies have a carbine hanger looped over his body, that's where the carbine goes. The body has both a sash and back-and-front plate.
It really is helpful. Here's a site with lots of solid info on DBA as well: http://www.fanaticus.org/DBA/
It's all about DBA2.x, but the changes to 3 aren't that earth-shattering when it comes to the basics.
Oh thanks for the tip- I never noticed that before.
Yeah, I have sniffed around there before. Once we get playing I will have to investigate it further.
In the mean time, Jeff and David have been playing Pulp Alley. Not my preferred genre but it was a good excuse to pick up a couple blisters of Bac Ninh Shogunate troops that I will imagine are some sort of retro-samurai cult of bushido or something. Film at eleven...
A little change of plans for the next game: we are going back to the ECW with the War Without an Enemie rules. We will be fighting the Battle of Montgomery. I will be supplying the Royalist foot; here you can see them arrayed on the kitchen table:

On the left with the green and white flag is Tillier's and Broughton's foot; behind them, without a flag, Earnle's and Warren's foot. In the middle with the blue flag is Sir Michael Woodhouse's foot and behind them with the purple colours is Robert Ellis' foot. In the lower right hand corner without a banner are Colonel Washington's dragoons. The 40mmx40mm trays are from Warbases. This past week I have been applying Litko steel base bottoms to the models and putting magnets in the trays in preperation for this coming weekend. In this photo you can see the Bac Ninh minis behind the trays awaiting for some primer and behind them some WIP Xyston Iberian Scutari:

I look forward to the batrep.
It turns out I had the wrong weekend which works out great as we have dinner guests coming over tonight. :o:rolleyes:
Finished off four of the Cavaliers:

I am this close to finishing off both the grey regiment's pike block and the 15mm Iberian scutari. I should have pics of at least one of those units by next weekend.
Unfortunately our host has had to cancel this evening's game due to poor health. Hopefully he is back in the saddle by next weekend :(.
In the meantime, he gave me a couple of medieval houses quite a few months ago to finish off. He put the structure together and I finally managed to get one done yesterday evening. The first photo shows the building he supplied and the second the finished product. He will paint and flock the bases to match his other buildings.

Great work! What kind of wood did you use?
It is just balsa wood strips with Varathane's Dark Walnut wood stain. I rubbed it in which forces it into the grain and brings it out a bit.
edit: the shingles are doll house shingles (I know- not to scale- but they fit in with his other buildings and look fine) and I believe they are actually cedar.
Very nice painted Cavaliers and house.
Last three minis for the Grey unit's pike stand. The two on the left are Warlord's metal armoured pike men- lovely minis to paint. More clean up than the plastic minis but very crisp detail and certainly add variety to the unit. I am going to pull a trick from mrtn's hat and put the two on a 20mmx40mm base, with the pikemen behind the officer with the halberd.

Very clean painting, I'm a fan.
Any chance of an upcoming batrep?
Indefinitely? That's just a week off! :)
Nice work on those pikemen.
