Iron Warriors uber bang bang death army

Here I go with my next project, in between throwing Yidhra in the bin, finalising rusty nuts the killdo kannon, painting a Pythia for my wifes birthday, if I get it done, and fantasizing about my mega-cheesy Iron Warriors army, I've decided to start on the Iron Warriors and stop dreaming about it....

And not paint the balloon just yet....

    Coz I don't want to....

Here's some pics, because my posts aren't posts without more pics....just coz....

    The Beginning...

Actually no... this was the beginning....

    And the next beginning...

I'm having a little trouble getting the walking vindicator-bot up and running, so if anyone has any ideas, they'll be uber welcome....

Is this going to be actually mechanical/mobile with capstan motor and gears? If the answer is yes, send me a pm so I can soil myself to eternal happyness.

Its early to be swearing but I just did, and loudly.

Why not mount it on a crab like body a la the Defiler but... you know... good. It makes sense that a seige weapon like that would grab onto nearby buildings while it fires its main cannon...

Hey! Lemmingspawn! Give us a picture of the backside of the behemoth!

asmodai I visualized what you said. I got goosebumps imagining the thundering of the cannon and the creture bracing itself against the walls.

Thanks for the comments guys... That defiler is my fav, it surprised me too how well it turned out and how much fun I had making it.

    Here's the back:

It's actually predominantly a single defiler kit with some plastic tubing and bits and pieces of junk, which is probably becoming more and more my signature style - "King of the Junkbots!"

I'm not going to automate it, although that would be cool. Those cogs and stuff are just there for bits.

The crab legged idea is actually crossing my mind, I just wanna steer away from using the stock defiler legs and would prefer to scratchbuild on this baby. I have another defiler and I want to build it too, I'm trying to think of another way to assemble the defiler different to what's already been done. I like doing things different.... so if I get any ideas, .... well ... you'll know about it sooner or later...hehehehe

Wouldn't a Vindie on legs be... you know... a Defiler? well, similar to a Defiler...

But it looks awesome... and Massive!!! What are those plastic bits from?

And you're Walking Defiler puts mine to shame... I'm gonna go smash all my stuff now because I'm so pathetic... Can't wait to see more

That's it! I'm gonna have to finally add a Defiler to my Chaos army and make it a biped walker! Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: Iron Warriors uber bang bang death army

Well guys, I've been a bit slow on the progress of this one for a couple reasons - 1 is I'm a bit creatively burnt out after the steam stompa....takes me a week or two to get over such big projects; 2 I've been a bit stumped as to how to begin the army - admittedly I probably should have started with the easier stuff but I am DETERMINED to start with the scratch vindie/defiler coz, well, with the apocalypse rules I'll need three if I can take them as a linebreaker squadron.

So I've been playing around with brainmatter trying to get something working upstairs and here's a concept I started on to see if it might work...

It's ok, but the footprint is too big, I'd have to rework that... This was before I stumbled across some steampunk-esque stuff and found this one that I think is actually the idea I had, just fleshed out better:

The idea on this one is to make the central body sorta like one of the current vindicators, but as if they had mutated like they'd come into contact with the allspark (Transformers reference), but not as complex as they are in the movie obviously.

Another variation that I will incorporate is creating a 3 toed stability foot, 1 toe forward, 2 long toes sorta back and reinforced to give it the appearance it can actually fire it's cannon without flipping for an olympic medal.

    Then I found this one-

Which looks almost like they drew it after seeing my defiler, the good thing is I can use this as a guide to building a second defiler, and to make it look different enough from the first to make them more interesting as a tag team deal.

And this tank is just TOOOO beefy to ignore:

I might make a huge one of these as a type of chaos or ork battle fortress. Either way it would work I reckon.

    Very impressive.
The chains and mutilated flesh keeep it from overstepping in to Orkishness quite nicely

ROIGHT! Boys and girls, finally got some action going on this army. I've started on the first vindicator walker, and since it's a sorta cross with a vindicator and a defiler maybe it should be called "Vin Diesel"? lol

The legs have been started and with these I have used some balsa wood to help build up the general shape of them before covering them in card to improve the shape.

    Here's the progress:

I need to enlarge the foot because the leg cowling is too large for it, but other than that I'm pretty happy with how they are turning out. As a bit of a pleasant surprise they're looking kinda like mini warhound legs...maybe I'll carry that theme through a little further.

To make it really unique and not too Titan-esque you should do a third leg like that. Position them in a similar fashion to your first mock-up and it will look really cool/odd. I really like the three legged idea personally and it would really take you away from the overdone walkers with two legs IMO.

EDIT - I forgot how great that Defiler was too - great to see it again

Looking good but I would say the feet need to be bigger!
