Re: Fighting 450th Steel Legion Log

I know I just started the log but the project has been under way for
a few weeks (now that I said it I can't belive how LITTLE I've gotten done)

With the surge of IG logs and DKoK I wanted to throw my hat in.
I wanted to go with a more American WW2 feel to my Steel Legion

After I get my base colors down I will swith up jacket and trouser
colors and get the squads to mix-and-match.

Here is my first test Mini.

The pics are not great, I'm also working on my photo taking abilities.

I do need some advice. I can't decide if I want to go with a standard
brown/bone base or do a "city of death" type base.
What do you good folks think?

They look really nice. I am painting a steel legion army also. Where are you from? As i might have to get the stuff you used to strip your models with.

Hmm...I really like the color scheme. Now to find a base that complements it. What about the desert base, but with a black rim instead of brown?

I'm in the States, bought the cleaning stuff at Wal-Mart. Great stuff but you can only
ever use it once on a mini, never again, just does not work a second time.
Also, I was check out your blog, nice on the red, I was soooo close to going that way
myself. I was sad to see you closed your thread, can you link to the ammo bunker so I can follow your progress.

    @Light of the Emperor
I LIKE IT. I will touch one up tomorrow and post it to see how
it looks. I also plan on adding some static grass or flocking
if I go with the brown.

Re: Fighting 450th Steel Legion Log

As I'm working on my Steel Legion I see some gaps and some
areas where I can slip in some Death Korps.

I wanted to add the DKoK Quartermaster, Command HQ, Commissar and tank crew/command. I also wanted to add some Stormtroopers

With out adding basic troops is it kosher to mix Steel Legion and DKoK?

Slipping in some Death Korps is a brilliant idea my friend

If you pick the right minis it will work well...

If you do decide to run with the Cities of Death bases I would suggest changing the green on the minis to say; grey, black or brown... German Fieldgrey is an amazing colour for Steel Legion lol! Has the right feel somehow...

Keep up the good work Old Boy,

For the bases I've decided to go with an Ash waste look. I painted them Dark Gray with a dry brush of rotten flesh, I'll post a picture today. Now I need to come up with some kind of squad marking.

Yes in fact it's what I'm doing in my log. Not sure how I'd use the Quartermaster, but everything else is being used.

I have to say your army is shaping up really nice, the colour scheme works really well on them, do you have any plans for how your going to paint your vehicles (if your are going to use any), olive green maybe?

I got a steel legion army myself and so far I´ve used the DKOK tank crew and I plan to buy the commissar and a squad of stormtroopers as well.

I think these are going to work well with the SL minis since they aren´t normal infantry so it won´t matter if the stand out (weapons and equipment wise). This is also why I think the HQ squad is going to look a bit out of place. I say stick with SL minis for your HQ as well. (though the QM could be used as a simple guardsman with a medic kit).

    Keep up the good work

Re: Fighting 450th Steel Legion Log

    @Yazoo

Thanks for your kind words. I'm not sure how the vehicles will look.
I'm going with how the old Steel Legion ash/sulfur look but I want
    a different schema, any ideas?

I also plan on adding heavy mortars and Quad Launchers and I plan
on crewing them with AM and Servitors.

Re: Fighting 450th Steel Legion Log

My first 10 are done (pretty much)

Still working on squad markings, probably going with
some type of markings on the back of the helmet.

Not good with eyes so I did not do them lol. But I will
    ink in face/flesh areas.

There are a couple of mold lines that I missed
but mold lines in metal is a mess to get sometimes.

I assume that my future squads will turn out somewhat
better as I've not really sat down and painted like this
    in about a year.

    Started on the second squad.

They look good to me man. I really like that olive green on the weapons... especially the ML. Looks sharp brother.

Re: Fighting 450th Steel Legion Log

My second squad is almost done so I'm starting to look ahead to my
Tanks and transports. I'm stuck on how I want to paint them. I don't want to
go with a single coat and want some type of camo. I was thinking about following
the Berlin Brigade style of camo using three or four colors in the block format but I
wanted to change the colors to match more of an Ash waist land look. Any ideas on
    the colors I should use?
