Above the seven seas; Concepts and drawings for my Steampunk Game in development

Long have I spoken about my gaming project, and finally, I have recieved one of the two letters I sent to myself to proove copyright. Meaning that the material in said letter (or rather, copies of said material) can be put on the net.

Short bit of info (more will come tomorrow when I'll recieve the letter containing the rules and some more fleshed out info):

The world is earth, the timeline however, is alternate. The game is set during the late nineteenth century (say 1870) through the early 20th century (say up untill 1910 or somesuch) just to give you an idea of the general feel of the world.
It's steampunk, or at least mainly steampunk. The world has been at war for over thirty years, and during this time, ground invasions and sea battles have been important, however, there is one thing that has taken even more importance, the airships. Massive fleets of airships and Hunter Squadrons have taken to the skies during the latest years. They have almost always been there, but never to this extent.

The two first nations to be introduced will be the Indragan Lands (still to decide on a location) and the Lurini Commonwealth (name is still pending, location is the contries and areas arround the mediterranean).

The Indragan Lands has been known for heir brutallity and cunning at war, and especially for one thing, their focus on Hunter Squadrons, I have tried to emphasise this by designing their Massive Class carrier similar to a modern Carrier, and their Hunter planes have been designed with both Double Deckers and WWII planes in mind.

The Lurini Commonwealth has risen through the 19th century and is an alliance of Greek and Italian origin, where the two nations set out to conquer the world like Cesar and Alexander before him. They build a heavy nationalist feeling upon their heritage of poetry, legendary heroes and powerful cultures. They specialise in big things, their Massive Classes are the strongest arround and they are also the largest. I have tried to draw lines similar to both gyro-punk and old greek and roman ship-designs.

However, do keep in mind, these are merely concept sketches, there is a reason till why I post here, I want feedback, help and a lot of such things. I have also asked a very talented painter on this forum to see if he can do some greyscale pictures based on these concepts. Everyone is free to suggest alterations, draw their own concepts and suggest those etc.

I present to you, the two first Massive Class ships drawn:

Remember, these are merely basic concepts, nothing more, nothing less. Next post by me will contain two different Hunter designs for each of the two nations

    Cool stuff Neknoh!

I have a webcomic I started and cancelled using a similar style of airship; though mine had some large WWII style battleship weapons on it.

(you can see the concept here: http://mistharm.deviantart.com/art/E...agram-50214967)

The idea in my case was an "alternate WWII" with a sort of steampunk/WWII-AE combination going.

    Err; but I'm derailing your thread >.<;

Cool stuff <^_^> Love seeing this kind of thing!

Please accept my apologies for any insult or offense I may have caused - though I feel my sentiment was correct, I have been overly aggressive and hostile of late; and I am sorry for that.

Hopefully I will return in better mental working order. Good luck all!

Oh these WILL have massive WWII style cannons on them, if you have a look at the Lurini Massive Class, you'll see one loooong bunker on top of the ship AND bunkers on the sides, these will serve as emplacements for Earthshaker-esque cannons.

The Indragan Massive Class have two lines in the middle, notice the round spots on them? They mark where similar cannons to those described above will be placed. There are also large bunkers on the edges of the runway, these will have larger but fewer guns.

So, we are talking huge ammounts of firepower there, I'll have a look at your concepts and see what I can steal

EDIT: Basically, the Massive Class Battleship models will be arround 10 or so cm's long, so if I can get them properly sculpted, there will be cannons that you can see are there and are large. I have yet to decide wether to do the Hunter Squadrons are large one-plane designs to represent the squadron, or as smaller, less detailed squadrons of a lot of planes.

    Ahh I see! <@_@>

If it were mine to do; I would recommend doing a single larger plane to represent a squadron. >.> There's just something about a more finely detailed mini that several smaller ones can't match imho!

Re: Above the seven seas; Concepts and drawings for my Steampunk Game in development

Whilst seeing your playtest thread over on the RP forum, I couldn't help but be intrigued by this game.

I thought I'd come on over and give some ideas on concepts and the like (or rather show you some things that another person has done whilst working on a mod for Homeworld 2). Anyway, I spotted this mod (see http://www.moddb.com/mods/5649/a-wing-and-a-prayer) a few years back and liked the concept, but it seems to have died out so I thought I'd share some of this persons work to see if it gave you any ideas (see attached).
Oi get me brain medicine from the nartional 'ealth.

quite like 'em, good find, although, I'd say that they really do show that they are part of a HW mod. But good find, deffinately, don't think I can base models directly on them, but they are good for general ideas.

Sounds a lot like the game "Aeronef"

    Areonef Rules

    Aeronef Minis

    Airships are always fun!

Re: Above the seven seas; Concepts and drawings for my Steampunk Game in development

heh, people have mentioned it when I've spoken of the ideas etc. but, as a matter of fact, I had not even heard of any game systems of airships when I wrote the first set of rules, and I haven't been looking at the rules for any systems afterward. This should be a result of what I can honestly say that I did not try to change a rules system or somesuch.

Thanks donuter The links at the start are actually what I'll be aiming for, but yes, I'm not too sure about the Aeronef look, but neither am I about the homeworld-mod, we'll see what it all turns out to be. Do have a look at the rules and feel free to try them out at home.

Now, I'm currently working on some concepts etc. for a 40k steampunk inspired guard, if I can get the image I want, this might actually translate into this game. And in less than two months, the Finals will be over, allowing me to go back to all of this and work properly into it. I am also looking into different ways of casting for that time after finals.

Reminds me a little of Last Exile; or what little I've seen of it. Good work and keep it up!

Haha, Sojourner, you should read the thread linked as well. The main inspiration to the game just happen to be Last Exile
