    Ash's ever expanding Imperial thread

Haven't painted a tank for some time, so this time instead of painting lots of small ones I'm going to have a go at one big one. It's been primed with chaos black (I didn't bother with pic's of this) and received a couple of coats of Tamiya TS-46 'light sand'. So far the turret's, fuel drums and exhust are not glued down. Neither are the crew and some of the stowage.

When finished it will hopefully look something like the rest of my IG tanks

Looks nice, bt wouldn't it be easier to undercoat with Skull white? Anyways hopes this turns out good, thumbs up for you.

I've never tried skull white as a primer for a tank, I suppose it might make the overall finished appearence lighter?

It's going to get a basic camouflage pattern and a lot of weathering.

I've put on the basic camo pattern, base coat.

The camo looks good. Although I would agree that using the whitebase coat would have been easier. How lond did it take you to do the basecoat?

    Re: Baneblade WIP

I used Tamiya spray cans. Two coats of TS-46 'light sand' over the black primer. I prefer dark primers as any that doesn't get covered adds to the shading. Takes a couple of minutes per coat with enough time to make a cup of tea in between. The green was via a small can of Tamiya TS-61 'Nato green', try to keep can fairly close to avoid the paint misting all over, at this stage it still needs a fair amount of touching up.

*nods* Hows the quality of the casting, I've pondered it and also had a few suggestions I looked into it for my Leviathan, the price put me off though lol

    Re: Baneblade WIP

    Hi Col. G
The casting was better than expected. He's used a fairly hard resin that can be sanded well. The bits of the casting that don't show had the odd bit of rubber residue and once assembled the whole thing needed a bit of filler. I've had a lot worse from a certain company in Notts and I didn't need to resort to the hot water treatment!

This should give an idea of the size difference. Only bit I didn't like was the look of the finished barrel mantlet support, as it's now made up of three bits and looked a bit Mmm. . . So I made up a sort of mantlet cover from some cotton gauze.

Painting wise, I've given the whole model a wash of thinned brown paint and started on the 'wear and tear'. Base coated the weapons and most of the stowage. The crew I finished when I was gluing the tank together.

I won't be using them all

    About half way.

Base coated the tracks, finished outlining the paint chips and started on the weapons.

nice work, that's one well worn tank!
I especially like how 'busy' the model is, with so many crewmembers out and about...
nice change from most tanks, which are either buttoned up, or have just the commander, presenting himself to enemy fire

    Thanks a lot.

There's a seller on ebay knocking out a seven part resin turret kit that, once
assembled makes your turret about 1/3 bigger. Both in width and front to back. Some of the earlier pictures should show the difference.

    Truly a lovely tank.

Where did you get the front track guards from? Did you make them?

Mind telling me how you did the paint chips?
