Rikard sculpts randomly and without warning.

I figured after all the fun I had over the last few weeks of sculpting for an exhibition I would start a new project log that looks at all the random bits and pieces that I will be getting up to (not just finishing Kroaks palanquin which is proving FAR harder than I ever thought possible). I even gave Nakai and my Druchii annointed an update for the event with new items and armour detail (I'll post pics if people want).

Anyways here is my first offering (still a major WIP) based on an existing miniature (which is 54mm tall) and artwork from the Reaper range. It is in preparation for my VC army (which I am eagerly waiting for). I am currently working on her sword arm and armour, more pics up tomorrow.



Altough not having a set list of things that need sculpting is a bit wierd I am hoping that it will make things more interesting as I will cover a wider range of armies and hopefully be able to link you to a few tutorials.

If I can help anyone with advice or likewise just give me a shout.

I am leaving the head to last but I have no intention whatsoever for it to be shoddy even if it takes me 50 or more attempts, the current fevale vampires are horrible, I can't see them seducing anyone with those faces.

In order to help pass a bit of time I thought I would include a small bit of info on the sword and its creation.

I really like using white milliput for swords and apoxysculpt too as when they dry they have ideal properties for being filed down to hard and firm edges.

So with the sword making it is simple and require no talent only patience. First off I mix up white milliput and place it around a length of thin wire before gently pushing it with clay shapers to get a vague shape I then leave it to dry.

Next I start filing it down creating the general thickness and the pointed tip.

Then I file at an angle to get the correct shape so there is a raised area running down the length of the sword blade on either side.

No I have only put them on hold, I still have work to do to them. I have finished the weapon on my third Kroxigor already, I need to concentrate on their feet.

Hey Pal! Like the rest, I think your work is pretty amazing! I am only good at sculpting Nurgle stuff, but that is simply because the Random Factor likes Nurgle....

How durable do you find the white milliput? It looks slightly chalky and brittle in the photos above, but I guess it's not really like that?

I really like working with white milliput it's not too grainy and files really easily so I find it ideal for swords making as you can also add little notches to it.



What I did to really help you break down the stages involved was to use a different putty between each stage using different putties from pro-create to apoxysculpt (the handle) and green stuff.

Here's some more pictures as promised, working on the arms one by one, though at this stage a lot fo the armour plates are not finished and are more complete towards the hand, where as the one on her shoulder is only the very first stage.

If anyone wants tips or pointers as to what tools I used for particular parts let me know.

Lol, yeah wish I could help out there but no, a lot of it is more logical thinking, you break the sculpt effect you want down into stages and then when you see the end result you learn that patience is always worth it for sculpting.

I know the feeling thats one of the reasons I am expanding into things like this as my stuff was heavily limited to Lizardmen and muscles.

Thanks, alot of it is about fear or doubt imho, you just need to build up the courage, take the plunge and then keep trying new techniques and stlyes.
