I've struggled with any painting for nearly 5 years! Since getting into the gaming industry, my time and then enthusiasm for my own hobby outside working hours has dropped off a cliff.
Now I just like to browse in awe at all the work everyone else is doing and the great models you are all painting![]()
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye... and then it's just fun!
Yeah, I can really relate to that. While my work is not in any way related to any hobby stuff, it's just that after a long day and with two kids and all the renovation work on the house (lovely wife won't allow me to add any weathering or rust stains at all sadly) sometimes I just sit down and watch Duncan Rhodes paint stuff instead of painting anything myself . . .
I tried various forms of motivation but what works best for me at the moment is evaluating the data from my giant excel sheet of doom where I keep track of my mount lead. I monitor the number of models bought and money spent and then try to keep painting more than I buy. Or put off any new purchases until I've painted enough to offset the new stuff. Well, let's just say that in those years where the giant boxes from the Bones Kickstarter arrive that isn't working too well...Ah, well, with 211 arrivals and 169 painted in 2021 there's room for improvement in the new year

That doesn't sound like you are doing too bad.
After not painting a single LoTR figure for about a decade I have decided to focus most of my painting time this winter on reducing my MASSIVE pile of unpainted LoTR plastic; starting with this group of Warriors of Minas Tirith.
Not a particularly inspiring set but certainly true to the movie costumes.
Not actually sure if I will use them in a game; possibly some urban warfare in Osgiliath.
Now I will have to paint some Orcs.

You are like a metronome CB- you just keep ticking along, cranking out well painted minis; great stuff.
Last year a new company entered the historical skirmish fray with a range of large 28mm (30mm really) figures for the ECW, Bloody Miniatures. These figures are from the first blister of 4 from that new range, called The Mortuary Men:

Welcome back BBW (hurhurhur)! The new GW paints are the usual: very available, very good, expensive (relatively) and in crappy pots. If you are not ok with that then the Vallejo paints are a good bet: just as ubiquitous, almost as good, less expensive, and in great little dropper bottles. They also have a very nice range of spray primers.

You can just do a google search for: paint range compatibility chart - Articles - DakkaDakka
It lists the following company paints and which colors will match which old paint name (within reason).
New Citadel, Old Citadel, Vallejo Game Color, Vallejo Model Color, INSTAR 6, INSTAR Vintage, Rackham, Reaper Master, Privateer Press P3 4, Coat D'arms 3, Army Painter
So you can replace a favorite color with another brand if you like.
Hope that helps,

Tackled some more LoTR minis- this time Rohirrim (Oathsworn Militia).
Probably my favourite plastic kit from the range.
