    Oh, well if Lord Dan likes it... . It wasn't a criticism of your painting, just a stylistic one. Nicely done though!

    Hahahaha!
    I didn't mean it that way Caiphas Cain! In fact I both understand and agree with your comment on the style.
    The process of experimenting with this type of OSL left me with this style of cape and rather than try to push color into it afterwards I went with it and tried to make the most of it, also experimenting with the contrast in painting only the lighting and not the actual color.
    Then I just need a way to reply to Lord Dan's extra comment there
    I'm totally trying not to make excuses. I really like getting the criticism and writing down my thoughts on the process in reply. Overanalyzing is my thing

    Top of a new page ... time for this?

    The lighting effect right behind the sources is probably a bit too dark now, but I'm sure the overall effect on the walls is better than before.

    Turns out there's a voting thread on the contest forum, rather than using the site's grading system.
    I actually have a feeling I won't do that great in this contest. Even though the effect as a whole turned out OK the painting is very raw and rough around the edges. I fear cleanliness in painting and smoothness of gradients are often valued higher than experimentation in style and effects, especially when people want to be really discerning in judging stuff like this.

    That said, this has been a huge learning experience, and I'm pretty sure I know stuff now that will help me do this much better next time.

    Love him, and I disagree with your assessment about what wins votes: I've found cool effects like OSL and NMM almost always beat out otherwise better painting with alternate techniques. The brilliant thing is that here you have both a top notch paintjob with some really cool effects. I wish you the best of luck!

    Even if you don't win the competition you have still learnt some new stuff and that is a fantastic looking diorama.

    Re: Solun's Tabletop & Board Game Miniatures

    OK, it's been a while since I posted, and I'm very grateful for the excellent response to the OSL Shaman piece. I haven't done much since but I'm getting back into gear now and looking forward to quite a lot of painting in the near future.

    @Lord Dan: Thanks man! Now I'm just really excited to see the result from the vote.

    @aku-chan: Thank you very much!

    @Jonhamaul: Yes! Exactly! I've found out a few things about fire OSL that I hope I can try out again very soon. Thanks!

    @Jarlax: Thanks! I take it you're talking about the Shoggoth and Cthonian (Lovecraft monsters) from the Mansions of Madness set. It's aFantasy Flight board game that includes those monsters.

    @Caiphas Cain: Thanks man

    @Little Joe: Thank you very much! Fingers crossed

    @Lord Azoth: Thanks man! Very glad you like the effect. You're right that the OSL could be a bit brighter closer to the sources, but I had made it too bright and dampened it and repainted and this is where I ended. I hope I can get more finesse into such an effect next time

    Just so that you know there's something happening at the painting desk:

    I've since added a shade wash to the Nurgle Herald, which will be dry in the morning, ready for highlights.

    Oh, and I've got my plane tickets to Serbia in August, so no second thoughts on the ETC now

    Thanks Satan!
    Normally I would protest and make up some explanations about how easy the scheme is, but today I really do feel like a fast painter.
    It must be this easy speed-painting scheme I came up with for the Plague Bearers

    Re: Solun's Tabletop & Board Game Miniatures

    @aku-chan: Thanks for checking in dude! Yeah, since today's the last official submission day for last month's Tale of 40K Painters, I might as well paint my entire batch today

    I've based and shaded purple details and based the bases and swords black.

    The 10 PBs and the Herald are now at the same point, so I guess I'll finish them as one batch.
    They are actually in a playable state now, but I need more highlights to call them finished.

    Let's see if I can finish them, and the last highlights on the Helbrute too, before I go to sleep

    EDIT: @Caiphas Cain: Did you say CHALLENGE??!? Let's go!!
