FW Goodies - A Cadian Log by Dictator (now with Macharius Vanquisher)

I recently bought the Cadian hardened veterans from Forgeworld, and they are awesome. The models are incredibly detailed and are interesting for army character. Therefore, they need a painting log. :]
I have not seen these guys often enough on Warseer and I hope I can spur other Guard players to buy these models. Although not particularly effective in the game, they look great in an army.

The models have been cleaned and assembled (minus equipment and bases which are being painted separately).

2 melta's and a flamer. Or just 3 melta's
I will use the 1 flamer for games against non-MEQ armies

As Promised, here is an update.
While the first 5 bases and veterans were drying from their priming, I finished the last two members of my Platoon level command section.
Here are the guardsmen of that command section minus the Junior Officer

Today I begin the painting of the veterans, and the assembly of something cool. :]

i really like the colour scheme, reminds me alot of a kinda riot police theme, or something to that effect, someone will understand

Is it possible for a small tutorial on the blue?, it looks terrific, you've managed to paint around the folds in clothing really well

There are two ways to do the blue
1 - The quick and dirty way (done for most infantry minus command squads and detailed infantry models)
a. 2 thined base coats of regal blue o0ver black primer
b. thicker semi-drybushed coat of shadow grey
c. very very light dry brush of space wolves grey

2 - The harder and longer way done for the models above and other "display quality models"
a. 2 tin coats of regal blue over a primed base
b. Painstakingly paint 2 thinner coats of shadow grey leaving folds of clothing and seems visible
c. mix 2:1 shadow grey with space wolves grey and highlight more distincly over the first
d. Mix 1:1 space wolves with shadow grey and paint only the most raised areas: Knees, heavily folded areas, and edges of cloth.

I really love that face of the second Guardsman with the shotgun, looks more convincing than those of the standard GW models which seem kinda puffy and round.

Sharp highlights and very nice blending on the blue, especially the third guy from the left. The faces really stick out too.
Needless to say the forgeworld models are so cool!

Wow, that command section looks pretty good (especially for a CC speed bump)! No vox then?

Another Update!!!
@Lepp- I decided to not use a vox caster because the squad will already be leadership 8 and I expect them to die. I will be using them as speed bumps for enemy CC infantry, that is why I do not mind their deaths, gave them ccw's, and would not want to spend an extra five points for a vox caster. They will not be running, they'll be dead!

I obviously have a ways to go, but he will be done by this afternoon. Also, does anyone know a good way to hold a model without rubbing off primer. What is a good way to mount a model (without a base) and be able to move the model around. I have seen people attaching models to wire: how is this done? It would help greatly becaues I hate messing up a good primer job!

I think the models have a hole drilled in the bottom, and the wire glued in. I assume when you've finished you just clip it flat and stick the base on. To stand it up you could either drill a hole in a base for the wire stand, or just stick it in some blu-tack

Yep, you take a pin vice to the foot and drill a decent hole, and then you run a bit of straightened out paper clip into the hole.

I really like how his face turned out, he looks like he is searching for something!
BEyond that I have to do all his packs and shotgun shells. I just need to go to the local hobby shop and pick up some paints.

I like that face, but might I suggest adding a brown ink wash to it? It looks a bit bright to me, could just be the lighting though.
