40k Flyer Head Thread for Stick Jocks

Welcome to the 40k Flyer Head Thread. Here you can place images of your flyer and also take a look at others to draw inspiration.

The tank boys got a thread, so how about us too?

Allow me to start off the show with a piece I am nearing completion on - my Thunderbolt.

A while back I thought "They've got a Tread-head but nothing for Flyers", at the time I didn't have anything to post myself and by the time I did the notion had left my mind. But enough of my ramblings on with the goodies.

To be fair, that was from one poster. And it's page 56 of a thread with close to 300 pages. This is a good initiative, liking all the flyers so far, but since I'm a chaos man I'd love to see more pictures of that Hellblade.

Also - I want flyers for Chaos Daemons... mm, flying soulgrinder....

well i am currently working on a completly self-built Valkyrie with a lot of modifications to make it the way i like it, so two very large doors on the sides, pipes under the floors etc. This is how much i have got to so far i need the following things to continue to build it:
    - Plastic Card
    - Super Glue
    - Plastic Glue

Front View (cockpit to go into the gap here):

Lovely work on the Thunderbolt. Some very nice touches on the markings.

A poor shot of my Vulture. As I'm changing the scheme for the Drop Troops I'll need to do some alterations on this.

Planning on getting a Thunderbolt and a few Valkyries to join him.

I've got a Tbolt pilot to paint up and starting to sort out a ground crew for stuff we're doing on Ammobunker.

IIRC it's an IG Basilisk crew member.

Heres a pic of my Valkyrie, been sat on my shelf for months now, still not finished, struggling to find the motivation to paint anything at the moment!

Aircraft are probably the most interesting aspect of 40k for me.

Here is a shot of my scratch built Ultramarine thunderhawk gunship.

Re: 40k Flyer Head Thread for Stick Jocks

I organised an event at WHW a couple of weeks ago, and I took along my flyers. I managed to field them in a couple of games. Here's a pic from a 2250pt Apocalypse game that was Titans and Flyers only: Vampire Hunter (Raider kit using "counts as", 2 x Phoenix, Revenant vs Thunderhawk, Thunderbolt, Vulture, 2 x Valkyrie, Warhound)

The Thunderhawk belongs to my opponent in the game, but the other flyers are all mine. There was another Phoenix and 2 Valkyries off the board in reserve at this point. The Eldar will be getting a paint job soon, and I already have already sorted out flying stands for them made from inverted plastic champagne flutes which I'll also probably use for the Imperials too rather than the CD+brush handle being used now.

Here are the Imperial flyers in another game on the same weekend:

and in reserve in the same game:

(thanks to killmaimburn and IMF2000, my opponents in those games, for taking the pics)

The Vulture and the completed Valkyrie I bought from eBay already painted. The Vulture will be getting repainted in a black and blue camo to match the other aircraft, the other Valkyrie and the Thunderbolt have only got the base coat so far.

At some point I will have another Valkyrie that I can field, if I ever find the time to finish it. So far the body shell is pretty rough and needs a lot of work to tidy it up and then to add detailing. It started as being a conversion using a Hind model kit but I quickly realised that the hull was the wrong shape and replaced all the kit parts with plasticard.

Very nice idea for a thread, and impeccable timing too. I've just started building a thunderbolt...
I can only hope that it turns out half as nice as yours Quiben, thoroughly nice work.
The same goes for the rest of you.
And Spacker, forgeworld must love you!

Re: 40k Flyer Head Thread for Stick Jocks

Some really great stuff guys, keep up the good work. Thanks to those who commented. I'd like for this thread to have all things flyer related in it. If you have rules questions, are in need of modelling advice or painting tips, ask away.

I am working on a few things other than my Thunderbolt that I can't wait to show off, a Marauder Destroyer and a Tigershark AX10.
