Mr Kibble's Random Log of Aboriginal SMs and Australian IG

    Hey everyone.

In 2003 i started collecting guard with my brother, but since he had left 40k i decided to embark on my own path. I redid the cadian army we started, re-naming it the 3rd Perlian Mechanised. In 2007 i fell under the spell of the space marines when i thought about collecting an indigenous-australian-themed Space Marine army.

This is my first modelling and painting log. I don't really know how to start one of these things off, but here are some pics of my Leman Russ Vanquisher, Vixen:

And something from my SM, the Desert Serpents, Brother Sergeant Gallu, leader of 3rd squad in the chapter's 3rd company:

Sorry for the crap pic. I'll be updating this thread very slowly, with slowly painted models and background of my armies. i have more of a playable force, i just havent painted them all yet.

Anyway, i hope you like my army so far!

Don't worry dude if ppl don't comment first, hang in there! I remember my first plog and it was pretty much myself talking to myself and a very nice mr. feral popping in for visits. Big pics you got there, maybe you should try downloading ifranview. It's totally free and great for sharpening and resizing pics. The pics are a bit blurry, but I'd say that you got some nice guys there. Keep going and someday you'll find yourself with a nice base of painters commenting your thread and your painting evolves a lot when you have a plog to do.

Re: Mr Kibbles' Log of IG, SMs and other random stuff

Thanks guys, but i do paint slowly. I might have a squad up, in a few months...

THe vanquisher: pretty simple really, i airbrushed the tank codex grey, then i masked it with blue tac and airbrushed the bands that were showing in shadow grey and black. i then drybrushed the bands after i removed the blu-tac with fortress grey for the codex, 50/50 shadow grey/white mix for the shadow and a codex grey db for the black.

i'm glad you like the marine, death.

    Hello everyone.

Here are some pictures of one of my sergeants, sgt haventthoughtofanameyet, XO of 3rd Platoon, second Company, of the 3rd Perlian Mechanised, in all his gore-soaked glory. His chainsword is one he's stolen from the enemy, a battered old cadian-pattern. I finished him 2 days ago. I'm thinking of an anglo-celtic name that i can 40k-ify, if anyone's interested in a challenge. sorry for the crap pic, although, i think the light catches his face quite well.

Here's sgt Herriot, the XO of 2nd platoon (and yes she is a woman), who is featured in my story the Garras War (the 1st story down) as a supporting character. I finished her about a week ago. I hope you like her.

Re: Mr Kibbles' Log of IG, SMs and other random stuff

Here's some background for my homemade SM chapter the Desert Serpents:

    Desert Serpents
Lineage: The Desert Serpents are a successor Chapter of the Ultramarines, sharing Guiliman’s gene-seed. The Chapter shares traits with their gene-brothers, the Iron Snakes, such as the ability to spit their acid to great lengths.

Colours: Earth-red Armour with black kneepads, gloves and exhaust-vents and gold-yellow elbow pads and backpack-core filter. The shoulder-pad trim is painted in Company colours as per Codex-Astartes. Chaplains wear wholly black armour and Librarians (“Warp-eldars”) azure. Apothecaries wear white narthecium and shoulder-pads. Sergeants paint their helmets black, while veterans paint their helmets white like their founding chapter. Company captains paint their helms black like sergeants, but add golden dots around the lenses.

Combat Doctrine: A Serpent-brother prefers to fight with spear than sword, as swords are rare weapons amongst the groups of humans from their homeworld. Like a snake striking at its prey, Rhinos and Predators spearhead a typical armoured assault by the Desert Serpents, with Landspeeder-patterns flying close-air support missions. In Battle, individual Brothers are known to paint their faces in the traditional war-colours of their groups, as there are divisions between tribes even down to squad level, but many Battle-Brothers shrug off these differences in the names of the primarchs and the Emperor.

Homeworld: The Desert Serpents’ homeworld is Australis, located in the eastward fringe of the Segmentum Pacificus. It is a dry planet, with most of its single landmass either desert or semi-arid. The mammalian and reptilian megafauna that inhabit the land, combined with the dry climate, give the nomadic Australisian tribes a harsh existence. This makes the Australisian tribesmen perfect recruits for the Chapter.

The natives of Australis bear deep hatred of the Chaos god Nurgle or “Nurhgulakuu”. During the Heresy, or “The Dreamtime” as it is known amongst the scattered groups, Plague-Marines of the Death Guard Legion along with foul nurglite daemons assaulted the world en-masse, only to be repulsed by loyalist Astartes and Army forces. The traitors and Daemons were pushed back to a single island atoll. As a last act of desperation, the traitors opened a warp portal on the island, retreating to their foul domain. The portal remains active today, and foul warp energies seep from it every few millennia, only to be put down when the Serpents intervene. The island has earned the name “Island of the Dead” in Australisian Mythology, and is used as a training ground for the initiates in their fight against Chaos.

Fortress Monastery: The Chapter maintains its fortress-monastery on Australis’s moon, Tasmus. Tasmus’s flora, fauna and mineral deposits are almost identical to that of Australis itself. The Monastery trains its initiates in the drill halls and its “Spirit-elders” (Chaplains) lead oaths and prayers to the Emperor and the Primarchs. Upon recruitment, initiates are usually implanted with all genes-seed organs and are directly made into fully-fledged Marines, wile the loner-initiates are inducted into the 10th Company for reconnaissance duties, like the Space-Wolves do. This social-bond of kinship has earned the Serpents respect from the Space-Wolves Chapter. Servitors are grown in vats under the Monastary, or created from condemned criminals to the Chapter.

Weaponry: As already mentioned, the Desert Serpents make use of spears, which come in chain and power-form and are usually wielded in conjunction with a bolter. Librarians are known to use force-spears. Power fists are usually painted white to symbolise their connection with the Machine-Spirit (or “Iron-ghost”). Another melee weapon the Desert Serpents make use of is a power-club, called a "nulla nulla" in the Australisian dialect. Of the many heavy weapons that make up the Desert Serpent Chapter’s armoury, Flamers, Heavy-bolters and Missile-launchers are the most favoured due to their rugged reliability and their ease to repair and reproduce. More complicated weapons are reserved for Devastators or the weapons-specialists in command-squads.

Guys, heres my tribute model of Brother Sergeant Priad from the novel Brothers of The Snake. He has nothing to do with the Desert Serpents, but i just felt like making a model cause i just loved the book so much. I'd say hes just about done apart from the base and the helmet lenses and the bolter sight. Anyway i hope you like him.

Good stuff here are my comments:

On the guards i'd give the whole model a badab black wash for depth, especially the metals should always be given the black wash, try it it really looks better. Nice job on the gal.

the marine is looking good, only problem is the white, which needs another layer.

I washed the guards tunics with delvan mud, but i probably will wash the whole of the model except the skin black. I'll consider repainting the white, but its tooo much work!

EDIT: I take it you like priad?

The model is well done otherwise, although the positions of the arms are a little unnatural.

Hes bashing an enemy (say an ork) with his bolter, swinging it like a combat shield and he's gonna bring his claw up to finish his stunned assailant.

Hey Guys got my September issue of White Dwarf today and look what i've managed to scrape together. Pics enclosed. Sorry for the crappy quality, i'm hoping to learn about my lighting techniques from your feedback. I' haven't glued the arms of the termie and the head and arms of the nob and plan to paint the termie up like my brother sergeant, and plan to paint the Nob up like it is a blood axe from my Garras war story.

here are some WIP pics of an SM i painted, probably as a one off. I haven't decided yet on his chapter's name or his company. I'm thinking The Brothers of Gediminas or something like that.
