A Chaos Vampire.. Is it possible?

Is it at all possible for a vampire to go to chaos? I could definitely see it, but can it happen?

This has been discussed in various threads to a greater or lesser degree - here's one:

    The general feeling is no.

Which is ironic given that when they were discussing new Vampire bloodlines a few years back, one of the possible choices was a Chaos corrupted bloodline, which lost out to the Strigoi.

Its possible for anything to turn to Chaos, all they have to do is start worshipping the Chaos gods. Its just the likelihood of it happening that changes. Vampires tend to be self serving, so it would probably take something extreme before it asked the Chaos Gods for help.

The chaos gods would get no benefit from a Vampire worshipper, his soul is shut off from the realm of chaos and gods forever

Well, they might not be able to win his soul over, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be advantageous for a Chaos Demon in some manner, corrupting other souls, waging war, etc. There could be other ways IMO.

I know nothing about this Vampire from, what was it, 5th or 4th or something that had apparently done such a thing as it was before my time. The other threads listed by Condottiere made for very interesting reads.

The relationship between Chaos and VC is interesting to me as someone who has a Chaos-themed VC army (based on the timeline in the latest VC armybook, "2523 Warbands following the Chaos Lord Vardek Crom cross Peak Pass and descent into Sylvania. None emerge from its borders, and it is rumoured a great Undead army has been raised from their bodies."

It's easy to believe that this means the Chaos warbands were utterly destroyed, but I think there are other possibilities to consider. Some kind of a combination of forces, Chaos Corruption of VC, or VC turning the Chaos toward worshipping the Vampires as a different form of "demon".

Vampires crave power. The chaos gods give power to those strong enough in mind and body. If a vampire desperatly needed power but couldnt attain it on his own i dont see why he wouldnt turn to chaos. What if zacharius hadnt of found that dragon to eat? He could just as easily have turned to chaos, killed a bunch of dumbass tribesmen because thats all chaos are nowadays and have gone back to Melkior with his new friend Tzeentch.

Crom is not dead, that's a filthy lie. He can't come back and kick the crap out of Archaon for sending him on a suicide mission into Sylvania. Some body has to emerge out of the dead wasteland nigh alone and march all the way back with a few close khornic followers and build an army as he marches north and wrests the position of Everchosen of Chaos from the cold body of the former.

After all, Crom beat Grimgor, Grimgor managed to beat on Archaon. So therefore Crom should see himself as being the proper leader of hordes.

Archaon's a puss and Crom is the shi*. The skull makes him look like he could be a zombie in chaos armor. I could picture like a vampire lord falling to chaos by just the lust of power alone. Imagine a khorne vampire lord with Supernatural Horror and Frostblade. Oh where, Oh where, has my army gone? I would also like to see a khorne Orc warboss. That would be Grimgor x10. Or even Grimgor worshipping Khorne. If he got blessed by khorne, move over archaon and crom.

Now we enter the realms of the unknown, it seems logical to me that the method Chaos uses to grant its followers power is by corrupting the soul in the warp, its a mutual deal, you give Chaos your soul and Chaos takes possession of it and grants it power in the warp to make it shine more brightly

As a result you gain power, an increased aura of awesome, magical knowledge, perve senses, etc

If your soul is bound so tightly to your self that it can never reach the chaos realm then the chaos gods receive no benefit and cannot grant you power as they cant affect you.

Materials such as Warpstone do affect anyone and thats because its Chaos made manifest so can affect the material world to a greater degree

Re: A Chaos Vampire.. Is it possible?

It's important to distinguish between a Vampire corrupted by Chaos, and one that willingly worships the Chaos gods.

In the first instance, it could be possible that a Vampire feeds on a daemon perhaps, or gets his fix from a warpstone-laced Grey Seer and the resultant influx of magical energy does things to its undead physiology. That said, Vampires are already magical creatures, essentially animated by the power of Chaos, so the corruption would be rare.

As for turning to the Chaos Gods, why would any Vampire bother? They already have the means for power and immortality. I could see an existing Chaos follower being turned into a Vampire and keeping his or her beliefs, but their dependence on the Chaos Gods would physically cease. The same could be asked if there are Sigmarite Vampires, or Taal-worshipping Vampires. On becoming Undead, the relationship between mortals and gods is no longer an issue for a Vampire.

Undeadism is an extension of the entire Chaos taint angle, so drawing lines between what is 'Chaos' and what is not isn't that simple.

Basically, you still keep smoking that cigarette out of habit, despite the fact that nicotine no longer has any effect for you, either good or bad.

The nature of chaos is a very malleable thing though. You can talk about souls, where they go and how the gods interact with mortals all day long. Its all nonsense really that could be dropped at any moment.

IMO unless there is somthing that says 'this cannot ever happen' then it can happen. The fact that GW were going to introduce a chaos tainted bloodline shows that its at least possible. Had they doen it they may have changed some background to fit it in but who knows. Remember that chaos used to have undead units and could have risen champions in RoC so maybe a chaos champion that turns into a vamp. Maybe he caught one and forced it to turn him.

I never thought of Choas gifts as the gods polishing your soul. I always saw it as them changing your body (wether they consciously give you crab claws or not is a different matter) in relation to how far you (soul) has fallen. I liked the line about CSM. Somthing like 'Their visage is nothing compared to the filth in their hearts'. I always thought that summed chaos followers up well.

Thats basically what I'm trying to say, the more corrupt the soul inside, the more corrupt the body becomes externally

Its a symptom of the decay

I guess it comes down to how alive you feels the gods are. If you see them as totally a thing of nature. Just big warp storms doing their thing and the results spilling over into the material world. Personally i prefer them to have personality. Somthing you can really sell your soul to. In this incarnation i dont see why the gods couldnt see the value of a stupidly strong, fast, immortal follower who can raise armies on his own. Surely its not beyond the great schemer to see the possibilities.

Like ive said i dont see anything that could actually stop a vampire worshipping chaos. Ok so the gods cant get at his soul. How does that stop him/her doning some red armour, burning a skull rune into their forehead and butchering the local militia? If the vamp is stomping round the wastes theyll mutate becasue anything is possible in the wastes.

TBH i think its a bit of a cheesy idea (a bit like the vampire/lycan hybrid in underworld). But where chaos is concerned i think there shouldnt be any hard and fast rules.
