    Are Anvils too cheesy?

I'm a dwarf player and am considering adding an anvil to my army list, but have a question to throw out there, is the anvil something that is just really cheesy for a dwarf player to take? would value opinions

Normal anvils are okay really, they round off the dwarf army nicely (helps mitigate the dwarfs low M).

What is apparently 'cheesy' is thorek. People will advise you not to take him as he can churn out ancient rune strikes far too 'safely'. Plus many players frown upon the use of special chars (with the exception of daemons it seems )

    Annoying? Yes
    Cheesy? No

What alot of people on Warseer think is if they can't find a way to counter it it is bad. Or they just like to complain . Yeah maybe that's it....

Yeah def, Anvils are okay and def add a whole new dimensional to playing a dwarf army. Not just gun line or get charge and react, allows you to be more proactive, go get 'em!

....well done..... So have you actually played against/with one?

As mentioned the regular one is actually considered a little underpowered for what it costs. Thorek is another matter...he is a bit of a handful especially against wood elves.

Anvils are fine, not so fine with Thorek as his re-rolls make it a bit over the top. Pretty much the biggest beef I have with it is if he does the 2d6 s4 hits (forget the name at the moment) and does NO WOUNDS your unit still moves at half. Such Bullsh!t

    On its own is fine.

But coupled with a maxed out gunline (or thorek) not so fine.

I would never field dwarves without one. Mainly for the extra movement. Dwarves without an anvil are extremely static and defensive. If you want to be active as well, pick an anvil.

Anvils are fantastic when they blow the crap out of themselves. Doesn't happen alot, but it's great when it does

Seeing as they can only really do one thing a turn, and if they try to do more they greatly increase the risk of failure, I don't find them cheesey at all.

    Re: Are Anvils too cheesy?

My normal anvil works just fine and has never roused a complaint. Its not seen as nearly as much a threat as thorek because it cant do the 2d6 ancient power hits, but the normal slowy/shooty rune and the rune of moveyness make it extremely versitile. It even adds a bit of thinking to a gunline to get the best out of it

Oh, and I enjoy not having to fork out the full 505 points for Thorek craziness.

Just wished it didn't both require us to take a Lord and use up an extra hero slot for it. Hopefully in the far future it will be treated like the Cauldron.

If I know in advance that I'm facing it, then I don't find it cheesy.

Normal one is fine although line of sight should be required for the damage spell. Thorek is stupid and generally the only people that use him just can't stand to lose or are really bad players.

My guess is that in the next Dwarf book, it will work just like the cauldron and the EoTG; it wont take up a hero slot, but it will have either range or LoS requirements or both.
