Hortwerth's painting, sculpting and converting log

    Hi there folks.

I haven't shown you much lately, mostly because I do a lot of different things and I find it hard to justify squeezing them into some of my other, more focused (Ad-Mech and Orks) mammoth threads.

So, to allow myself no such excuse anymore for not actually putting the pics of my works for your viewing pleasure and hopefully criticism, I hereby start this "all in one" thread.

Most likely it won't be updated regularly, but since I do modelling for a living it's bound to be moving unless I starve to death.

I'll try to dig out the recent but not yet seen completed models soon enough.

Anyways, please feel free to comment and contribute. Most of the things seen in this thread will be finished anyways but your comments and constructive criticism will find its way into future works!

To kick it all off, here's a Baneblade I finished today. It's there to lend some firepower to a client's Daemonhunter army, hence the =I=s and seals and gold trim. The name of the tank is "our Foxy lady" for obvious reasons!

Re: Hortwerth's painting, sculpting and converting thread

With this tank I actually used a fine airbrush for the first time. I broke it too, of course - it's not as fine now since I damaged the pin... It's still good enough for the preshading, and the actual camo/patern making... It's not good enough to paint eyes or freehands though.

    Here are some detail shots:

The "Foxy lady" is freehand-painted based on these pinups.

awersome, just awersome. Your work is always a pleasure to look at.

I do like the cities of death edging you have added in, it really suits the tank.

What sort of paints where you using in the airbrush?

Great work and great freehand. Its a real beuty, but I would have wanted a litle bit of dust and grime on the tank. Tanks are born to be dirty angry beast in my opinion

    Hortwerth's back, awesome.

The Baneblade looks sweet. At first glance, it looks as though it is hardly painted at all, but as I took a better look, I could see all the intricate details and subtleties in the paint job.

    Keep up the great work.

Loving the baneblade, But I confess that I would like to attempt to copy the eagle parts on the track units.

    Always an inspiration. Thanks!

I tried to make it look more Inquisitorial but not change the tank too much. What screams "Imperial agent" more than a gold trim on an otherwise camouflaged tank?

For the undercoat I use Humbroll enamel paints applied with a heavy duty airbrush, then for the fine airbrush it's just Citadel acrylic paints.

I have been through detail talks on several jobs with several clients at the same time, and one wanted a "clean, parade look" for his vehicles. I'm kind of confused a bit as to which one, so I left the dust and grime for when the client actually asks for it.

Excellent! It has the gothic touch, that IG tanks are usually missing.

    Well done!

Re: Hortwerth's painting, sculpting and converting log

Well, the pin-up next to the Inquisition symbol just looks weird and out of place.
Can't imagine them seriously hunting a Slaanesh cult with that tank.
But these are the limitations given by customer wishes I guess
