Vaaish's All things Epic (and the ocassional 40k/BFG) - Speeders: update 6/19/2009

With TacComms on the fritz lately and Malakai bugging me to post, I've decided to expand my logs to Warseer as well. That being the case, there is quite a bit to catch up on these days.

In the beginning was the Guard.
To begin with, I've always been curious about Epic given the tiny scale so one day I broke down and snagged some old OOP guardsmen from ebay to have a look at how much detail they actually had and being unable to bring myself to paint up masses of infantry for 40k. Eventually they got painted and thus was born my epic rabbit chase from 40k.

    That gave me this:

To which many moons later was added a second, and then came support:

And seeing that Epic was good, and that it was fitting vehicles should follow, the Guard gained more support:

Not satisfied with all that was done, the guard was found wanting once more and soon the forges replied with steel:

And thus the cries fell silent for a time.

And while it as that the Guard lay resting, The angels cried out and thus was born the imperial fists. But all was not well for in fire was lost much knowledge.

Hearing the cries of their brothers, soon appeared both land raiders and terminators:

And thus their forces were deemed whole:

For a while the cries of Guard and Marine were drowned by thunder of the machine god and at his call arose great engines of war:

and their cries rose for their greater brothers to awake and add their thunder to the chorus:

But even these were not enough and there arose greater cries for their ancient kin and they were heard:

And with these their cries fell silent too and all was finished for a time.

Then it was that the Guard became restless and the call of machines was heard again. Tales were formed to present this new forces adorned in great tanks and titans and in the following months they were finished too. Sentinels, Thunderbolts, Warhounds, shadowswords, and Baneblades alike were forged until all was done.

And that gets everything up to date. Otherthings I've done in there are a few objectives and I'm working on some more Imperial Fists as well as trying to complete the AMTL force. 2 warlords and 6 knights to go.

    Objectives:

You should give it a try Ravenheart! Epic Armageddon is a miles better game than W40k or any of the other core games. You can still get some awesomely painted armies and you paint them lots quicker.

Great models Vaaish, particularly like the FW superheavies How do you do your rust / weathering? Are the numbers from transfers and if so which ones?

Ravenheart: yes, definately try epic. The last two pics of the IG stuff together is 2000 points and cost about $120 USD which is plenty reasonable in the average 40k budget. Even painting, if I compressed it, was about 5 weeks total although the event was stretched over 4 months spending about $30USD a month.

Glyn: I've used two general methods of doing the rust, both use dark flesh as the basic rust color and firey orange as the more oxidized rust color. The first method is paint on drips and rust around bolts and hatches with dark flesh and then hit some areas with firey orange, the second is to make a heavy wash of dark flesh and let it flow into the corners and do the same with firey orange before picking out areas if bits of orange. The decals are mainly from the cadian IG for 40k.

Magos: I'm currently working up 6 knight titans and then another two warlords to round out the models I have to AMTL. Guard still needs another 3 baneblades, 18 chimeras, and 6 hydras. Then I have some comissioned Imperial Fists and after that point I have some things I'd like to add to my own IF army and I've got plans toying around with Eldar.

Well I should probably add in a few up close shots of the later stuff for TOTW09 so here are a few more:

    Shadowswords:

    Baneblades:

    Sentinels:

    Thunderbolts:

    Warlord in with the reavers:

Look great, especily like the titans.

Thanks! I am changing up the scheme for the knights somewhat. I'm trying a deep brown to reddish brown for this batch and less rusting. Kind of like they have more funds available to upkeep their titans keeping them to mostly the same standard as the titan legions.

Not sure you need to do that mate, after reading Mechanicum, there would appear to be fluff wise a big line in the sand dividing Titan Legions and Knight Households. I think what you have going is awesome and sets a great standard for others.

There was always a huge line there as far as organization and heraldry.
