"Artscale" Space Marines (a truescale project log)

    Hi guys.

I've always been a huge fan of Space Marines and the practice of truescaling has really bought something extra to them as miniatures (for me at least). Thanks to the efforts of many other 'Truescalers' I've got to the point where I'm fairly confident of my own ability to produce my own convincing conversions.

These are not precisely truescale models as they aren't intended to emulate correct proportions within the model itself, but rather, scale correctly in comparison to a regular human model (guardsman for example). Because I find GW's Space Marine artwork to almost always correctly portray how I imagine Marines should look, and I use it as the inspiration a lot, I'm dubbing these conversions "Artscale". Doghouse in his infinite wisdom calls his Actual Scale and it's basically the same thing, I just like Artscale better

All the conversions shown here are essentially test pieces, to work on technique and methodology. I'm hoping to be able to make these to order/commission (painted or unpainted), though I'm still trying to figure out an appropriate price.

    (not quite finished yet)

All the above are based on 30mm bases as apposed to the normal 25mm. I think if I start making these to order, I'll magnetize the feet and supply alternative base sizes.

Comments and criticisms welcome as always.

Next up is a Vulkan He'stan conversion.

Good God, these are awesome. I have no idea at all how you would put a price on what is essentially a labour of love, especially as you have made them look like production models. I thought the Vanguard was the one from the box until I looked closer. Truely stunning.

Excellent stuff. I'm normally very critical of Truescale models (even though I've never done it myself, but I've read countless threads). All too often they are clear conversions where the parts used are very obvious and are more just big marines than "truescale".

But, your marines are, as I said, excellent. The extended backpacks and sculpting involved really makes them look like truescale marines. Very impressive.

Doghouse does have infinity wisdom. If he were to work for GW designing models I think we'd have some seriously kickass space marines!

Great Truescale marines mate, it's marines like these that make me want to stop current projects and buy buckets of marine bits to create a few.

The squad is great but i really like the pose and paintjob on that Knight.

Wow. Thanks for all the positive comments.

I will start producing these pretty soon (website in the works).

I'll be trying out Chaos Space Marines too in the near future. If anyone has a particular idea they'd like to see done, let me know. Here's just a few of the models I want to have a bash at:

    Special character conversions
Flesh Tearers (all action poses and chain axe goodness)
Fabius Bile and a squad of enhanced marines
    Black Dragons "Dragon Claw" squad
    Ranulf the Wolf Guard
    Wulfen
    Legion of the Damned
    Deathwatch squad
    Techmarine
    ...eventually Terminators

Here's also a WiP pic that I forgot I had for the Mark V armour, that shows scale comparison.

The blue was enchanted blue with a little white added. I was trying to emulate this Emperor's Spear pic.

Re: "Artscale" Space Marines (a truescale project log)

    great models!!! looks perfect.

but why making marines larger?? marines are just the size as they must be.

guard, tau, eldar are too tall. and must be made smaller,

i really like those conversions where the marines are taller than normal.
only problem i have with them is: THERE ARE NEVER ANY BIGGER VEHICLES IN THE BIGGER SIZE MARINE TOPICS!!!
wanna see a superheavy army group with 20 baneblades and 5 heavy tanks???
